As we never really finished the full scope…read moreof the 2018 project, because of our finances, the pandemic and availability of perfect products, we picked it back up this spring in conjunction with our long-term goal of returning the main room to its original hardwood floor. McDonald Carpet One does tile areas too and did our entry area in the 2018 phase with the kitchen floor and new upstairs carpet, 3 bedrooms, a hall and full flight of stairs. That construction had not been level enough for hardwood as the floor joists had to be laid over the very old beams. The tile manufacturer was sold out and redesigning the companion smaller tile so nothing was available to do the fireplace hearth, even if we could have paid for it at the time. Fast forward to this spring and now they did have a companion tile. I'll admit the color lot changed a bit but it is still quite acceptable and looks good with the hardware around the metal fire doors and the decor in the mantle. April, the staff member I had used in the past set it up for us. They do have other staff too and the owner stays close to operations. We have had years of good projects with them so please also read my previous review. I am glad this final renovation to our house is done and glad I could use so many longtime reliable Boulder companies.

We had a long time plan to eventually repair and refinish the original hardwood floor in the main…read moreroom of our 1950 house. When we bought the house in 1975, we were aware that there was hardwood under the carpet of that room as the adjacent 3 bedrooms had hard wood, specifically a budget red oak. Only one small room was so badly damaged and stained, perhaps from pets, that we used Einar Berlin in 1976 to refinish the one room. It was all we could work on that year. Mr Berlin had founded to company in the 50s and a reliable Boulder classic. Fast forward to 1979 when we added a small addition upstairs and we updated that main room carpet as well as carpet the addition since it was nether level enough nor inexpensive enough to consider hardwood for that floor. Our horror at that time was finding out that under the existing main room carpet was a terribly damaged wood floor. So many years after purchase that disclosure dispute was not worth pursuing. So we carpeted yet again as with arrival of children, and no play room nor family room nor basement, the carpet would be a nice comfortable safe option. It even included carpeting the hall to the new stairs which required moving doorways for access. Fast forward again to the mid 90s and we needed to patch and refinish that area so we called Berlin again and with Einar retired, his son Steve was running the company. His team again did a fantastic job and did warn us that the first room done in '76 only had one more sanding in it for the future. There are only so many times it can handle and still look good. So fast forward again to this winter when we decided that rather than carpet one more time that we would finally do our dream job and patch and refinish that damaged floor. Steve Berlin still owns the company but has an additional layer of management to help out the process and he has several specialty teams to do the work. Each one was stellar and the repairs required 24 whole new boards, patching hundreds of holes for one team, adding oak trim baseboards where the original had been stripped in 1967 for that first carpet, a team that did the sanding and treating with classic finish to blend with the contiguous side rooms . We were warned that the perfect color match could not be achieved unless the entire set of rooms were done together. But again for cost and time , we elected to let them match as well as possible . We are onward with as close as it does, the newly finished main room being a hair less yellow, a hair more pink but with Colorado's intense sun it will slowly age and blend. The over all cost was fair, the workers professional and as gold as could be done. A tiny imperfection in a few spots in a house full of major imperfections and just enough to give the authentic feel of its age. I don't think any but us could even see it in any light. Remember, it's natural wood and not machine made. The workers took care at every step and though we did end up going to a hotel to sleep the second two nights after the finish coat application, we should have listened to their recommendation and go the night if the laying of the first coat. Take my suggestion that you will regret staying any night there is wet finish.

We had 7 walls removed so Berlin Flooring "feathered " in new wood pieces where the walls had been removed. They then stripped/sanded the original wood flooring and applied a protective covering. (We elected to go without stain.) The results of Berlin Flooring's work on our floors demonstrates a knowledge of wood and the processes involved in refinishing hardwood floors is vast and dialed in. I definitely recommend Berlin Flooring to anyone considering installing or refinishing hardwood floors. Oh, BTW, our dog had an accident and bled all over the sanded but not yet finished flooring - about 10'x3' - and Berlin Flooring was able to perform magic in getting the blood out of the flooring. Katie laid an epoxy coating in our commercial kitchen and "stained" the concrete floors in our…read morecommercial dining room last July. We decided to use Katie because of her knowledge and understanding of what we were looking for in a durable floor. We were very happy with the results at first, but that quickly faded and has led to months of frustration and disappointment. Katie was supposed to smooth the surface of our commercial kitchen before laying the epoxy coating. She did not and now our kitchen has tons of divots that makes it difficult to clean the floor. She has offered to fix the kitchen floor, if we pay for the product and move everything out of our commercial kitchen. This requires a lot more time and money. The "stain" Katie uses is more like a paint. We've only been allowing indoor dining for a couple of months, so our floors should look close to pristine. There's large patches of "stain" missing everywhere you look. We spent months trying to get Katie out just to look at the floors. She finally offered to patch up the areas of missing "stain", but just doing large patches of touch up will look horrible. At this point, our floor is not salvageable and Katie is unwilling to redo the entire floor. We are very frustrated and disappointed. This has been a huge waste of time and money. Find someone that will do the job right the first time.

We lost our house in the Marshall Fire and spent close to six figures with Atlas and their…read moreinstallers on our rebuild. Atlas' salesperson (Tommy) ordered the underlayment for our floor. This underlayment is not recommended by the manufacturer (Portercraft Floors). Frank LaCava installed the floor incorrectly and now it will need to be replaced. Nelson Melara installed our tile and the grout is soft/crumbling and will need to be replaced. Nelson is unresponsive and does not stand behind his work.
