As I've now had the opportunity to not only utilize Denver Union Station for commutes to/from the airport, but to have enjoyed my time at the station with a few drinks amongst friends and loved ones. From the holiday decor in the wintertime to the outdoor patios for the restaurants out front during the summer, there is just no bad view. I really enjoy my time up on the second floor bar which allows you to overlook the main floor. read more

On the last day of my trip to Colorado, I planned to return my rental car in downtown Denver and then take the train back to the airport from Union Station. With a couple of hours to spare, I decided to hang out in the station. I quickly regretted not planning more time here--there's so much to see, do, and eat! It was the perfect place to unwind and enjoy the charm of this historic landmark, especially with a delicious cup of coffee in hand. One nice surprise was that the bus ride from the rental car drop-off to the train station was completely free. Next time I visit, I'd love to stay at the hotel right in the station--it seemed like such a great spot. The train ride to the airport was very affordable, and I really enjoyed taking in the city's scenery on my way back. They have restaurants and bars and you can even stay at the hotel at the station and if you're flying into Denver international airport and you need to get to Downtown this is the way to go. Our train tickets are only $10. It's about a 40 minute ride from the airport to downtown union station once you get off at Union Station. I'm rating this as a tourist attraction. Not sure if it's fair to compare, but if you've been to other historical stations in bigger cities, especially Grand Central Station in NYC, this falls short. There are a few shops and restaurants/cafes and a hotel, but nothing impressive. I can usually find photo ops everywhere, but we spent less than 10 mins here and left with only a couple of pictures. If you have time to spend, worth a visit, but nothing to go out of your way to see. read more

Classic railroad station that still services Amtrak and a train to and from Denver airport. Lots of restaurants, bars, and other shops, in a well preserved, secure environment. Decorated for Christmas and that is very well done both inside and outside. Fairly easy access from anywhere in the downtown Denver area including by a free 16th St. bus that runs between Civic Center and Union Station, and is one block away from Union Station that takes about a minute and a half to get there by walking. I would suggest going both during the day and evening, but if you're only going to go once, I would go after dark to take in the Christmas lights and a laser light show on the front of the building. read more

Decades ago, the great modern builders of Denver envisioned a renewed Union Station befitting of a world-class city with a great and expanded transit system. It has been achieved! Yes, there can be challenges with the vagabonds whose paths course through this facility, but a strident effort is being made to return the station to its remodeled, revitalized self. This inter-modal center serves as the core in a hub and spoke system of trains and other modes of transportation. One can depart on the luxury Rocky Mountaineer or leave via a standard service Amtrak train. The facility also acts as a gateway to light rail lines that service the city, a commuter rail line to Denver International Airport as well as city and statewide bus systems. A hotel for those needing accommodation is present within, as well as restaurants and a bookstore. I remember being in this building as a child and over the years. It was beautiful, but quiet and not exactly vibrant by today's expectations. The first train stopped here in the 1860s and the history and contribution of this place to the greater wild (now tamed) west is astounding. It's current state is enjoyable and so long as the less savory elements are addressed, this centerpiece of Denver will continue to impress and serve as a great first impression for so many entering this fine city. read more

Similar to DCs Union Station but a tad smaller. They are renovating so we can't really enjoy it's true beauty. The RTD begins here and ends here too, if you need to get to the airport. The Crawford hotel is here too, which another gem in Denver. There are small shops too like ACME if you want subs n stuff or go to the Snooze if you want coffee or tea etc.. it's very well maintained, and they do their best it keep the vagrants out. read more

This was my first introduction to Denver. This is a massive train station that connects you to the rest of the city. The train from the airport reached Union Station in under an hour. It only costs $10.50 which is much cheaper than taking an Uber. This place reminds me of Grand Central in New York City but smaller. You can immediately see the gorgeous historic architecture. This building has been around for years. It is mostly packed with people who are either waiting for the train or leaving on one of the trains. There is a large seating area for people to wait or do work in the meantime. There are several restaurants spread out through Union Station. The local stores are nice but very expensive as you would expect from a major transit hub. I went to get a coffee at Pigtrain Coffee Co, and everything was pricey. My favorite spot is Snooze Cafe which was tucked lightly in the corner of the building. There are locations all over Denver but this is one of the more popular ones. Before leaving Denver I managed to stop by and pick up a meal before catching my train out of the city. read more

In town for some baseball and decided to stay at the Crawford. Unfortunately it is undergoing renovations so you can't really get the feel for the interior. Missing are the bench style seating that brought the feel of the old train station. Amtrak still runs through here as well as light rail to the airport - convenient for us. There are places to dine, snack or drink in a clean & relatively quiet environment. Staying at the hotel here you can get pretty much everything you may need without have to leave the bldg. I've been here twice that I can recall. Once with part of my family and the second time I was alone. Great thing about this Denver Union Station, I felt totally safe walking around the inside and outside! It's hard to believe this historic train station has been here since 1881! Well, not this exact one! In 1894, it sustained a fire. It was rebuilt by 1914. It got a massive renovation in 2012 and reopened in 2014 in all its present glory. They included a hotel above the bustling ground floor! There are many new cool shops, including Milkbox Ice Creamery, Pigtrain Coffee Co., Snooze an AM Eatery, Mercantile dining & provision, and more! Out near the tracks, everything is well marked. The walkways were clean. You can take the elevator or stairs to get to each platform. The front of Union Station is off of Wynkoop. To the side of the front, there's a splash pad where families seemed prepared to hang out all day while their kiddos played. It was alluring as the day was pretty warm out, but I refrained! I don't remember seeing this station, but in 1980, my family took the Amtrak from San Francisco to Denver. I would think we would have exited at Union Station! If so, I had been here then, too! And it would've looked much different, more like it did after the fire, but more worn. There are various seating arrangements in the station. It's a great place to have a rest, meet up & catch up with friends/family, people watch, or to do some work. Maybe I'll catch some sort of transit to or from here again one day! You can take the train from here to the Denver Airport! Might be a good option since the airport is so remote! read more

Loved the interior renovations that allow restaurants and stores to open inside. Easy to cross over and under the station with a pedestrian bridge and escalators to the basement bus area. If you use the RDT app, you can buy tickets for subway in advance, which is nice. $10.50 gets you a one-way ticket to the airport in 35 minutes. Much less expensive than share-rides. read more

An awesome historic building that was renovated not too long ago. It's located in the downtown area a few blocks from the stadium where the Rockies play. There's a bunch of shops and eateries inside/ connected. You can get a book from the bookstore, grab some coffee, or even some cocktails. I came here a few years back, and remember just being in awe of this place. I ordered a glass of rye whiskey from the bar counter and was able to lounge inside. We didn't spend too much time in here, but really liked it. I definitely recommend a visit, especially through the eyes of a tourist like myself. I think it's a pretty big local hang out as well or so it seems. A big plus is that it's located in the downtown area so I feel like there's a lot of stuff nearby. I know for a fact it's not too far of a drive from one of my other favorite Denver places - The Source, but this place and area has a lot to explore for sure. read more

I particularly like Mercantile and there are also plenty of restaurants in the vicinity that are wonderful. Bottom Line: A historic train station that still serves as a train station and includes a hotel, a bar, eateries, restaurants and shops. As someone who enjoys history, architecture and trains I was very excited to visit Denver Union Station. As I understand it, about a decade ago the thought process was to demolish Union Station and turn it into a park. I am so glad that the building was kept in tact, refurbished and repurposed. Its a beautiful building! My husband and I stayed at The Hotel Crawford that is located within Denver Union Station and we spent a good bit of time exploring all that the building has to offer. We stopped in Pigtrain Coffee, and Milkbox Ice Creamery, dined at Snooze and Mercantile and shopped at Tattered Books and the other cute little shops. We also departed from the station to the airport on the A-tain lightrail. All of those aspects of Union Station were good experiences but mostly I just enjoyed marveling at the architecture and space as a whole. Earlier this year I saw some bad press about Denver Union Station having some issues with crime so I was a little nervous about visiting the station and staying at the hotel located therein. However, it seems Denver has worked hard to clean up the station a bit as I felt totally safe and didn't see any concerning behavior but did routinely spot attentive and armed security. I just wish I could have picked up a lovely Christmas ornament that commemorate my time at the lovely Denver Union Station. read more

It is one large room with many seating areas for waiting passengers. The Terminal Bar cleverly retrofitted the ticketing windows into a classy lounge service area. So easy to take the RTD from the Denver Airport to the Denver Union Station to get to downtown Denver. Your ticket $10.50 is good as a day pass for the metro. It was nice to imagine how travelers used to cross the country by rail. Although the present-day Denver Union Station building consists of wings built at different times that have survived many events, it has been renovated to reflect its history. The original wings were built in 1881 in a Romanesque Revival style with stone work that featured the Colorado state flower. The station was gutted by a fire in 1894, rebuilt, renovated and now serves a a mixed use historic site. Today, Union Station serves as "Denver's Living Room." The Great Hall serves as the gateway to the hotel lobby, Amtrak access, retail shops and restaurants. Love the long tables and suspended chandeliers. read more

Honestly, thinking of Denver Union Station makes me sad. I decided to really explore the place and eat here on the last day of our trip. We got there at around 2pm to hang out for about 4 hours before taking the train back to the airport. Walking into the main hall (which is GORGEOUS btw) I get an email that my flight has been cancelled. Given that I don't trust the airline industry anymore, we didn't hang around and immediately left for the airport. However, I did come into the station on our first night and we did sit in the hall for a good minute while I was on the phone trying to figure out how to get home. There was plenty of seating (some really comfortable) and many a place to eat and drink. I very much wanted to get a cocktail at the cool bar where ticketing used to be and I wanted to get some happy hour tapas at one of the restaurants. Maybe some other day. Security is really good here. I was on the phone so I didn't really notice but there was an unhoused person behind me screaming profanities about me or some other woman around and a sweet man across from us got security and they escorted him out. This train station is gorgeous! It kind of reminds me of Grand Central Terminal but waaay smaller. With that being said, it's still a great tourist destination if you're visiting Denver. The interior architecture is striking, and it's the first thing that you'll notice when you walk inside. I initially stopped here to have dinner at one of the many restaurants located inside of the station, but I arrived too late (most of them were closed or on the verge of closing). There's a beautiful bar inside (The Terminal Bar), but it was packed and I didn't have a reservation. The wait was just too long for my liking, so I decided to just walk around and explore the train station instead. Apparently, you can take the train from here all the way to the airport. I rented a car during my visit, so there was no need for me to take the train. However, if I was planning on strictly staying in the city, I would definitely consider it. I'm a big fan of accessible public transit, especially in places where they're more developed (unlike in my home state of California). Aside from restaurants, there are also little boutique shops in the terminal too. You can walk upstairs and view some of the antique architecture and artwork. This train station is also connected a beautiful hotel room. This is also a super popular spot for locals who frequent the main lobby to work and study. I wish I had come earlier on in the day when everything was still open. But, I still had a nice time exploring what I could given the cirumstances. read more
