It might seem strange to go to an airport and get a really good pedicure a really nice massage but let's face the facts if you have a layover $50 and 30 minutes for yourself, come see Martha and Jessica at the salon. I came in for a pedicure believe it or not yes me Captain dirty feet from Germany within five minutes my people are cleaner than it ever been probably since the day I was born but it was completely relaxing I think you should stop by and enjoy the girls company they're very friendly. read more

Hours on the wall say spa should have opened an hour ago. Website is down. Disappointing.

Had a long layover and decided to get a pedicure and manicure. I was very excited to find a spa located right near my gate and thought this would be a nice treat and a good way to pass the time. Not only did the nail tech clip my cuticles too low and cause many areas to bleed but also performed the worst polish I've ever received. Steer clear! Update: Manager was great when I discussed with her my concerns and she revived images of the polish. She refunded my entire total and offered a complimentary service should I ever pass through again. Because of her care, I'm updating my review to 4 stars. read more

As a working (traveling) mom, I find it hard to keep up with my nails but it's also very important because I am seeing clients in my travels. I really wanted to love Departure Spa, it's sooo convenient! But that's where it ends. It's convenient. You are paying for this convenience, the quality was that of a (very) cheap salon and the staff was friendly but I in no way felt pampered. It was just way too expensive for the experience I received. Good in a pinch but, eh, I am underwhelmed by the results of this very expensive gel manicure. I think the specialize more-so In the massage realm, but I could be wrong. read more

First thing in the morning on January 1st 2020: flight reservation lost, then delayed indefinitely... after a lot of work related stressing and family drama this was not what my body needed to hear. However, it was my good luck to be in Terminal C at Newark airport. The d_parture spa kiosks are manned by angels! My massage technician was friendly, considerate, and skillful. My delay would end up being 7 hours, but when I purchased 60 minutes service, the tech was cool and honest about making sure to keep an eye and ear to the gate just in case their was any sudden change. It was a relief that in the event of a change she could still take care of my tension concerns. My session began with quiet back, neck and shoulder work. Then, we struck up a conversation and I left feeling physically and spiritually revived. So thankful!!!! Happy new year indeed. read more

I got to the airport way too early, so I decided to treat myself to a pedicure. When I asked if I could get one, the folks at Departure Spa told me to come back in 30 minutes, and it would take about 30 minutes. No problem - I'd still have enough time. When I returned 30 minutes later, they weren't ready. I waited another 25 minutes. Now things were tight...but they swore it could get done. The woman who gave me the pedicure was rough on my cuticles, but they probably needed it. She did a good job on the nail polish. The problem was, I'd waited so long that my nails didn't dry in time. UGH. I got my sandals out of my suitcase, and hoped for the best. The polish on one of my big toes wound up rubbing off. It's most noticeable to me, and at least my toes look better than they did before. I'd return here, but only if I had a ton of time. read more

This place is pricey but of course it's the airport. I came here out of necessity not luxury. I fell on ice on the way to the airport and the idea of sitting in one spot for an hour and a half was scary. I decided to check this place out. I've seen this establishment on several occasions as I exclusively fly out of terminal C. They only offer chair massage. I had a high quality massage here. It was great and much needed. The therapist listened to my acute concern and addressed it. She cared that I felt better. They ask about your flight information too. I assume that is to make sure the service is well timed. I would return here if it were needed. I wish the cost was more reasonable. read more

My first time taking advantage of a delay by having my nails done. I had to wait 15 min. They took me on time. The place is a little dated. Madeline did a great job. She also was friendly. I get a manipedi at a spa at least once every 2 weeks if not once a week. While my main go-to is an amazing nail technician who I have loyally followed from salon to salon and is now at Nordstrom Spa in San Francisco, I have been to my fair share of quick and cheaper nail salons. I stopped by Departure Spa and thought to myself, "I have some time to kill before my flight." They told me to come back in 30 minutes, which I did. Now, the first time I was at this spa, I had a terrible experience with a regular manicure. 45 minutes later, someone finally saw me and I began my gel manicure. Unfortunately, my experience has not changed because of the following events: 1) The nail technician I was with was so rough. Instead of gently buffing your nails and cutting your cuticles, my technician actually cut my right thumb and it was bleeding the rest of my experience. 2) Every nail shape was different when I specifically told her to keep my current square round nail shape and she never asked me about which length I wanted. She cut them way too short and was not even consistent about it! 3) I told her that I had to board soon since they had started my appointment late and that I will skip the gel and just clean up my nails. The lady insisted that she could complete my gel manicure and she ended up painting terribly. Layers weren't smooth. I even had hair stuck in my gel. She also did not pay attention to the thickness of the top coat and now I have gel top coat glued to my cuticles from spilling over from my nails. 4) The ladies who were working there were using their phones the entire time which is just plain unprofessional in front of clients. Robert at d_parture spa just added some bright, kind, and relaxing energy into one of my most stressful travel days to date. As the FAA and TSA staffing issues came to a head this morning, my flight plans were impacted severely (cancellations, rerouting, delays, etc.). This has been an especially devastating whirlwind given that I'm flying precisely to try to make it in time for my beloved Aunt's funeral in the morning. Given long layover times and the incredible amount of stress I'm carrying, I stopped on a whim and am so grateful for just 15 minutes of therapy from Robert. He really tapped into the areas that were carrying my worst energy and helped me loosen up after a day of hiking my shoulders up to my ears between sobs. Headache? Neck Tension? Go to this spot in Terminal C and see if Carlos is working. Get a neck and shoulder massage. If you ask for deep tissue, he will tell you up front, "it will hurt". Accept this and when you are done you will be thankful for the experience. I had a tension migrane and when I was done writhing in pain from the massage, my headache was gone. I planned to get to EWR extra early to get a manicure at Departure ahead of time. I looked online to see if I could make an appointment ahead of time, and found no information. When I got there, the wait was over an hour, which would mean that i wouldn't be able to finish before boarding. I was told I should have called in advanced. This is a very poor business model because no one has more than an hour to wait when they're at the airport-everyone has a flight to catch! In addition, if appointments are necessary, the website should clearly state it and provide a way to do it online. I've never had this problem at Xpress Spa and wish EWR would switch to them instead. read more

Stopped in at gate C110 location for a 20 minute chair massage during my layover. The woman with green hair (I didn't get her name) gave an excellent massage, good pressure, found and focused on tension spots. Very pleased with the decision, though probably should have gone for longer. It was a bit expensive at $2/minute (though not unusual for an airport) but well worth it. read more

Who says you can't have fun at the airport? Me and my friend had a long delay at Newark airport after a week long business trip. I was not looking forward on spending 7 hours at the airport on Friday! My friend went to take a walk and came back telling me that she booked us a massage...I was like...what? At 4:30 we made our way to Departure Spa....what a great experience. My massage was really awesome...he took his time, always making sure I was comfortable with the pressure that was applied. Don't waste your time or money with this place! Horrible, Horrible, Horrible! From the overweight and lazy staff to the lack luster service! This is the worst experience I've ever had. Walked in where a person immediately greeted me. You have to make an appointment which is a good way to kill time if you have a 5-7 hour layover. I was able to get a massage pretty quickly. I signed up for a 30 mins chair massage, but the therapist said I was only slotted for 15 mins. Bummer... She was really working out my muscle kinks. My massage therapist was a little lacking in customer service skills, but she did a great job with my massage. I didn't even realize she was done because she just walked away and I was sitting there wondering if she was done until she looked at me from the register. Also, I noticed she didn't ask about pressure preference or remind me to drink water afterwards like the other therapist. I give her 3 stars. I came back an hour later for my pedi/mani. She did a great job on mani and an ok job with my pedi since I asked for a harder design. She accommodated the designed I showed her and was very motivated to do it! I think she should've mentioned she didn't know how to do the design, though. I give her a 4.5 stars because she had great customer service skills. This place gets BUSY. In 15 mins, about 7 people walked in to make appts or try to make an appt. They were so busy and a lady was left without a massage therapist since that person went to go talk to the owner. So my massage therapist had her wait 15 mins until she was done with my appt and she took her. They are unorganized with their appts, but maybe that particular day was extra busy for them since it was a Saturday. Not much of a nail polish selection. They also do feet massage, hair, waxing, and facial services. The place looks pretty clean despite them using old t-shirts as towels. Never seen that before. And they are Eco friendly. read more

Terrible. The staff was extremely friendly but the overall quality was terrible. I got a mani/pedi (not cheap, but it is the airport) and was seriously disappointed. If I wasn't there with my boss I would have made a huge deal out of it and asked for my money back. First thing, The polish was so thick and sticky. I can' believe she could even get it on my nails. She thinned it down half way through my manicure but alas it was too late. The clear coat left bubbles in the finish and they just would dry. They are still not completely 'dry' after 15 hours. I actually went to the restaurant in my flip flops because I was scared to put my socks and shoes back on. One of my toes didn't even get a full swipe of color. I also have color on my cuticles. But at least I didn't look as bad as the girl who painted them. She was covered in the red from my service. What a waste of (70+15) $85. read more

I had a less than mediocre experience here. I arrived with enough time for a mani pedi since I was unable to get one prior, and then a bite before getting on my plane. I should start by saying I get a mani pedi a few times a month, I'm not a snob about it, however I do have certain expectations. I was surprised that the price didn't meet the appearance as it was a bit shabby. Then I wasn't put into the pedicure tub across from me... no, she just wet my feet with a towel and started. I decided to make the best of it as she was nice however I asked for square nails and how mine came out ended up nowhere close to even, forget square. Lets move past the terrible nail job. Then came payment. I kept being told that my card was denied and then the next that I smooched my nails getting out was denied. I was done 15 minutes after she said I would be, forget food at this point... then the gentleman told me, oh she went to the bathroom, this happens all the time, she will have to reset it. Then when she finally came back she said she couldn't do anything and I was requested to get cash. I couldn't understand how in an airport when they know people have to leave, and the credit card machine goes out a lot that they wouldn't ask me to pay earlier. When I refused to get cash out they finally said they could call someone else from the other one at gate 110 (or something like that) to bring over a card machine. Great. 15 minutes later, still no help there, she said someone was coming, and I asked for help with my shoes which I didn't get, and then I ruined another nail trying to help myself... She started fixing it while the other woman came in to help me pay but forget it at that point, I was going to have to run to my flight and was over the situation. The woman who did my nails did tell me how she rolled my bag from the chair to the front for me, and that she does that for everyone... This place is great!! The items available for purchase are unique and fun for a traveler. The massages are AWESOME. At first you don't exactly feel anymore welcome than a walk-in at most spas but after a few minutes of small talk you feel like a regular. I'll look for them any time I go through here again. Good spot to get your nails done quickly before a flight. Was it the best polish job ever? No. But it did the job and the whole thing took 15-20 minutes as promised. I'm glad I went for a pedicure and would do it again, but I can't whole heartedly recommend it to others. The staff was incredibly nice. The manicurist was finishing with someone else when I walked in, so I only had to wait 5 minutes until she was ready for me. I recommend, however, stopping by as soon as you're considering going because the wait time got a bit longer while I was there. Despite the friendliness, I would have expected better service, especially given the price. Walking in with my carry on and a coat, I wasn't offered a place to put them, or given any help. It's clear that the manicurist isn't as adept with the tools as you'd find at your typical neighborhood nail salon. I also wasn't overly impressed with the color options. With a long layover after a 12 hour flight, the pedicure was a great way to pass time, but I prefer the quality and service of my nothing-special neighborhood nail place any day. read more
