We had a fabulous meal prepared and served by Michelle who was friendly, helpful and answered all the questions. This neat little restaurant is located in downtown Roxboro. Frog's legs to start were amazing. I've not had frog's legs in a very long time and so I stepped out of my comfort zone. Great breading and very tasty! For main, I chose the cowboy burger. Cooked a little more than I wanted but it was still delicious and served with a spicy pepper jack cheese, fried jalapeno rounds and some amazing fries. The burger had a great taste to it. I did not encounter any negatives, other than the slightly overcooked burger. My friends enjoyed their seafood and the ribeye steak. Next time, maybe I'll go with the shrimp and grits. Some of the issues on previous reviews both here and Google still persist. There is a sewage smell inside of the restaurant; not sure why. Fortunately I did not get the smell in my mouth like a previous reviewer did. The lettuce on the side salad was somewhat brownish; the presentation was not the best. The steak was ordered medium; some parts were under medium. The size is definitely part of why some of it is undercooked. An instant read thermometer might be helpful if one isn't used already. The menu was definitely not what it is online or on any of the pictures. Our waiter did the best she could given the circumstances; running all the host desk, the full bar/bartending, and waitering tables. With few improvements specially with the sewage smell this place could be a nice spot for a casual dinner with family or friends. read more

Loved the atmosphere and was excited to try the food. 1.5 hrs later we received an overcooked appetizer. Realized the chef had no help and after speaking with staff got the understanding she thought she had it under control. 30 minutes later got overcooked entrees. Realized the kitchen was in line with the bar and this was a distraction from the quality of food in the outlying dining area. Love the concept and may try again but from the over cooked items, saw that the chef was easily distracted by attention that ended in neglect of the quality of our dinner. Good food, but sometimes their presentation lacks thoughtfulness. I had a cowboy burger, and the first bite was amazing. They've always impressed me that way. Sadly though, the string fries, burger bun and paper plate liner were covered in oil. It appears to be applied just before serving it. They give you one napkin. Thoughtless. The dish would be outstanding without the oil. Fo $18, you'd expect a pleasant experience. That and hard church pew seating and it just ends up being an expensive, uncomfortable, messy dinner in what presents itself to be a higher end eatery. read more

I m very dismissive over discrepancies when it pertains to small business owners, since being one , myself. But my experience at this establishment could not be ignored. I feel as though -if the owner had handled the situation in a congenial , fair way than I would not be so adamant on notifying the general public how unaccountable and downright unprofessional this lady is. In a nutshell this is what happened; We had a party of 3 adults and 5 kids. Had called ahead to ask if they had availability. Was told yes. This was on Valentines and it was packed. They had one young waiter, a bartender and the owner who was cooking. We sat ,ordered drinks and appetizers . Drinks came 20 minutes later. Fine, I get it- 1 waiter and a full house- after another 30 minutes, kids are hungry, need refills on drinks. I walk to bar ask for refills and inquire about appetizers and ordering. I carry drinks back, myself, because young waiter is abundantly busy. Waiter takes order, kids somewhat satisfied and we wait another HOUR before 5 plates for the 8 people that ordered ,arrive. Of those 5 ,1 one was completely wrong, 2 were plainly lacking and the $32 dollar, expensive, adult plate was raw , bread soggy and missing sides. Of course the kids are going to eat and share the 4 plates since they were hungry. They said it was yucky, btw. I calmly wait 20 MORE minutes and ask the waiter to please box up the rest and I would like to speak with the owner. He apologized profusely, showed me that he had written the order down correctly and explained he was trying his best to attend to the overcrowding. I get it . Not sure why management would allow a holiday crowd without ensuring they would have adequate help, beforehand, is beyond me. I get it, I thought; maybe everyone called out on her.... Waiter gave me bill and said he would box everything else up. Bill was over $200 , gave him my card signed a super awesome tip( cause the young man was doing his best) and said I would go up and speak to her. I went to the bar, I stood there in front of owner for 15 minutes while she purposefully ignored me . I said , loudly enough for her to hear , that I would like speak with her. It was 30 MINUTE LATER, people had left and place had cleared out and STILL had not received food OR 2 of 3 APPETIZERS. I m pissed at this point of being so blatantly ignored after spending so much ! I walk back up , owner comes out with food in boxes and says she had thrown in 2 home made cookies for desert and would refund me for one plate. I asked her about the cold , horrible , raw food and food that was missing ,and when I would see that change on my card. That money, she said , would be taken out of the waiters tip. So the original bill for food would be still charged, she was not going to put on tip. I asked her , if she felt that was a good idea since he was only getting $2.10 an hour , as it was, and he busted his ass. That it was the food quality and preparation that was the problem . I told her to not take away his tip and keep it. There was NEVER any accountability on her part or suggestion on refunding any part of the bill. I left , got in the car with kids and other adults and proceeded to dole out the food to everyone so we could eat SOMETHING before riding home over an hour away. Get this: Food was cold as shit, only 1 cookie!! And still missing items!! That's it! Walk back , they had closed but owner was sitting at bar. I knocked they let me in, I calmly told her I wasn't trying to be an asshole but we waited almost 3 hours , didn't get our food correctly, paid a ton of money her solution to put it on the young waiter and then STILL give me crap food with missing items was outrageous and how is she going to rectify this??! Her response, " I don't know, I have done all I'm going to do. " then turns away and ignores me and continued to add her receipts. I said duly noted and walked out. THIS SMALL BUSINESS OWNER IS INCOMPETENT, UNACCOUNTABLE, RUDE AND SELLING SUBPAR FOOD FOR OUTRAGEOUS AMOUNTS. DONT CONTRIBUTE! SHE SHOULD BE IN ANOTHER LINE OF BUSINESS. read more

Worst dining experience ever! The menus online is not the menu.. The real menu is more limited and more expensive. Took 1 hr to get served. Shrimp and grits was green peppers with 5 shrimp. This restaurant is called Depot Southern Bistro. The waitress was very kind but the food was just ok. It took an hour and a half to get our dinner order when there were only two other tables in the whole place. It was pretty frustrating. When it finally arrived my salmon with asparagus and risotto was cold. The rice in the risotto was also not cooked and crunchy. I think this place has good intentions but needs some serious improvements in the kitchen. read more

Absolutely horrendous. Food was atrocious and took about an hour. At the first half of are 2+ hour experience we had ordered some appetizers, 3 FRIED TOMATOES WITH SHRIMP. That took about 20-25 minutes, keep that in mind it was 3 about the size of a small donut. After that they took our order I ORDERED A SMASH BURGER WITH BACON and my mom ordered the "Cowboy Burger" and my dad ordered pasta with shrimp. Smash burger took about an hour and maybe a half. Just to get served a "Monster Smash Burger" which isn't on the menu, so how did i order that???!. My mom's Cowboy Burger was forgotten for about 45 minutes and they finally realized. Dads pasta took like an hour for a medium sized plate of pasta. My cousin and his friend ordered lemonade that was either pure syrup or a lemon squeezed in water. Undrinkable. Charged for the burger we did not order which was 28 DOLLARS?!!! for a Medium sized burger with a handful of fries and WE WERE CHARGED FOR CHEDDAR CHEESE. They asked what we ordered every 7 minutes and still got the bill messed up so we hand wrote it again and they still got it wrong. We were charged for 2 sprites when we ordered one. Charged for a random coke that we didn't order. There had to be one cook. Great servers but does not make up for the terrible experience. read more

Absolutely horrendous. Food was atrocious and we were charged extra on almost every order. They came back every 7 minutes to ask who was with who and who ordered what. We were there for over 2 hours and only spent about 20 minutes of that actually eating. Me and my friend ordered lemonades and they both came in different colors. Mine tasted like pure syrup and his was water with lemon juice in it. Pop was served in bottles from the store. Food took forever to get there and some of it was wrong. I ordered a smash burger with bacon and the bacon was undercooked so I had to take that off. They could not for the life of them get the bills right, so my mom had to do it for them. Our main waitress had only been working there for 4 days, so she was struggling. The other waitress did not help her and made her do the majority of the work. We were still in the end charged for wrong things and paid way extra. In addition they charged my cousin for cheese on his burger and 7 dollars for 2 sprites. The fries had sugar or something on them which made them un-eatable. My dad ordered a drink while we were waiting for the food for and hour, which came out right when we were about to leave. We were still charged for that. No one had a good experience and it was terrible. Way overpriced as well. read more

Nice place! We were seated quickly and the wait staff were masked. The waitress quickly got our drink and food orders. The crab cakes - though a little smaller portion size than we expected - were excellent! Unfortunately things went a little down hill - it took us 45 minutes to get a small salad (which had been thoroughly rinsed enough that it was a little too wet), and then another 15-20 minutes to get our main courses. My steak was cooked properly, but was getting cold. Burger looked good and fries were hot. Shrimp and grits were also good. But with only a handful of customers in the restaurant we have no idea why it took us 90 minutes to eat here. The kitchen staff did look short staffed, so possibly a fluke. In short - we wanted to love the place and the crab cakes hooked us but everything else was kind of average and the wait time was pretty bad. But everyone seemed super nice. read more

Mentioned how gross and mushy my pork was and how we felt a discount would be justified and the cops were threatened to be called on us. I paid the bill and left and was sick all night. The manager was beyond rude to us and was shoeless during our dinning experience. I have never been so disappointed with a restaurant or a meal. Do not trust the pictures. A terrible experience. Food was less than mediocre. It took more than an hour to get it. But what really infuriated us was that they took us for a ride on the prices of a couple of glasses of wine. We asked what they had and the server listed some generic types. My wife ordered a glass if pilot noir, then another glass with dinner. We didn't think to ask the price--our mistake. When we got the bill, we were absolutely shocked to see that they'd charged us $19 a glass! We looked up the wine and found that it sells for $21.99 a bottle online. Stay away from this place. In terms of food quality, you're better of at KFC. And they won't cheat you on prices. read more

My wife and I ate here Saturday. She had blackened salmon. We also had appetizer fried green tomatoes. I had the rib eye. Asked for medium rare was way over cooked no pink at all mashed potatoes were cold and very bland. 4 asparagus stalks also no flavor at all. I personally have ate steaks from new York to California and a lot of states in between. I'm telling you this was not a rib eye. At best was a 6 ounce new York strip was barely a half inch thick. But when the check came I was really floored 68.72 oh and ice tea to drink. 32.00 dollars for the new York strip. I would absolutely not recommend this restaurant! Will never go again. Always a great meal here! Both times my girlfriend and I went, the restaurant staff was friendly and continued to check on our meals. We love the appetizers, and the portions are big so we usually have leftovers. And Jennifer the owner is awesome - super friendly and always greets us with a smile! The food was excellent. The chef / owner greeted us, from the kitchen, as we were sitting down. The gal serving us was super nice. We tried appetizers, beer, and the seafood entrees which were outstanding. The owner even showed me around. The decor is a wonderful readaptive old brick department store from the early 1900s. My wife and I were very impressed with the menu, the owner, the staff, and the great quality of the food. The prices were reasonable. It is a place worth patronizing because the owner is so hardworking that her business is her family. She's committed to serving excellence. You will enjoy the ambiance with a little patience while most small businesses are forced to adapt to changing workplace constraints.
