The numerous flying insects were to me an indication that there was something wrong underneath the surface. The flying insects were seen day and night.

The guest house is beautiful and so quaint with wonderful primitive antiques, but yet very comfortable. There was also a refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, and hair dryer. The front porch is wonderful for morning coffee or an evening glass of wine with great wicker rocking chairs. The house is only about four to five minutes from town, but you have a feeling of being in the country even though it is close to the main road. If you bring your pet, DO bring a leash, as it is not fenced in. Wonderful stay! Could not have asked for more. It is about 7mi. from Fredericksburg Main St. I thought it was lovely. My only complaint was how small the shower is. It is out in the country so expect some bugs. They are unavoidable in a country area. We enjoyed the hot tub for a little relaxation. It had pretty much everything you need. We didn't cook, but there are appliances. No ice maker, but ice trays. Blow dryer, ironing board, TV with internet connection for Netflix. Not a lot of rules about clean up, but we did gather our towels and put trash in trash bins. Very welcoming. We really enjoyed ourselves. I wouldn't hesitate going back, but now I know about the shower!

The property was not dog friendly. Our dog could not run around the land. Within minutes of arrival and the whole stay we were stuck spending time removing small round thorns from his fur and paws. We couldn't spend much time outside for this reason only on a dirt road with rain puddles was without those painful thorns forcing us to spend more time cleaning the dog then we hoped for. My husband and I were even bleeding from removing the thorns. If you're bringing your dog this is a NO GO and not worth the cost. The place is cozy and nice overall but our dog was imprisoned in the bathroom on rainy weekend. Def not worth the cost per night with lack of fire pit amenity or dog friendly land.

We hit the wine road towards Fredericksburg and after seven wineries, 42 tastings, and six bottles later, he brought me to the most adorable place I've ever stayed at: Carriage House. In case you're wondering, it was just as adorable the next day when I was more sober (my photos don't do the place justice). The outside of the main house was pretty, but no, we weren't staying in the main house- he did better than that. Off to the side of the main house was a little cottage standing by itself. "EEEEE, we're staying in there?!" my tipsy self gushed. The girly squeals only intensified after I saw the interior of the cottage. Hubs had outdone himself. A few tips for first timers: Dogs under 30lbs are allowed to stay for an extra $10/night. You have your very own private parking spot that is literally right next to the cottage. Once parked, you will find a little gate about a yard in front of your car; the gate leads right to the front of the cottage. In addition to the usuals that are provided at a hotel, the cottage is also supplied with dishes, silverware, and wine openers. Just check the drawers around the kitchen sink. Towels and extra toiletries are located under the bathroom sinks, and there is a step stool located underneath the (very high) bed. If you're short, use it. If you've been drinking wine all day, use it. When in doubt, use it. You're not actually served breakfast in bed here. Instead, you're given $10 vouchers (one for each guest) that can be used at several popular brunch spots in Fredericksburg. If Carriage House had a cheesy slogan, I would imagine it to be something along the lines of, "Carriage House: Drink Wine and Fall in Love." So friends, drink wine, fall in love, and check this place out. But don't try to book on my birthday weekend. Because it'll be mine.
