This little gem was just the kind of place I needed for a few days in Fredericksburg. It was conveniently located and the perfect fit for me as a solo traveler. I was mainly visiting Fredericksburg to be close to Enchanted Rock State Park where I was going at night to photograph stars and other celestial objects. First of all, the motel reminds me of the ones I stayed in as a kid back in the 60's which I think were referred to as motor courts. The layout is simple, 3 long buildings, each with individual rooms, I was in Room #2. Parking was perfect for me as I parked right in front of my room's door. When you have to drag a lot of heavy photography gear in and out of the car and room, being so close is perfect. No elevator to ride and long walk to a parking lot. The room was sparkling clean, I think it might have been painted recently and the decor had a western feel with a cow skin on the floor and a Mexican serape bed cover. Speaking of the bed, it was super comfy and so were the pillows. The room had a small table and 2 comfortable chairs, the table was perfect for my laptop to use for editing my images and checking email and such. There were night stands on either side of the bed and a TV on the wall, although I never turned it on. The bathroom was great, clean and modern fixtures. It had a tub/shower, toilet and sink. The room had a kitchenette, a small counter with a nice sink and a coffee maker, a microwave was just above on the shelf. I found the 2 burner glass top stove which was stored under the sink and it worked fine for scrambling some eggs for breakfast. The fridge was small but enough room for what I needed, freezer needed to be defrosted but I kept my reusable ice pack frozen for my trip home. The only negative thing I could say is that while they did provide some plates, bowls, silverware and kitchen cooking utensils, at first there were no pots or pans. I called the main number and soon a lady delivered 2 frying pans. Sadly, they were in pretty bad shape, non stick or Teflon was all scratched up. I ended up just going to Walmart and buying a pan for $5. I would recommend the owners get some better cooking necessities like a pan and a pot. Also a roll of paper towels would be better than the Terri cloth hand towel they provided. And most importantly, the AC unit was great and kept my room really cold, even with 100 degree temps just outside. It looked clean, no signs of mold or mildew as some other reviewers noted. If I am returning to Fredericksburg, I will stay here for sure! read more

I was worried after seeing some of the reviews on here, but our room was super cute and comfortable :) Retro vibe which we loved, we fell asleep to cable for the first time in a while LOL. We booked this motel originally on priceline then priceline email had another place reserved. They were full and we came back here. It's a retro 1930's park right outside your room type of motel. Their theme was retro with old tvs in lobby, old keys, tiny kitchenette, metal lawn chairs outside, etc. We had room 1, which was the only room left. It was next to the highway and needed to sleep with the fan on. The plumbing here is awful. I flushed the toilet with minimal tp and water rose and didn't flush. Man working came with a plunger and after an hour of riding a bicycle to Walmart for draino. Still issues, but we didn't flush til 7 husband did the plunging. Pretty pathetic when we need to use a plunger each time. Ice was in a chest freezer in bags. Be aware of plumbing issues. Review 41 in 2023. read more

I came here for 2 nights while visiting Texas. Let's be clear, this is a motel not a hotel. We waited around maybe thirty minutes before someone showed up to check us in. The room was ready and we dropped off our things. The beds were a little comfortable, but the sheets and blanket not so much. On one of our days there, the toilet started to backup and we had to shut the water to make it stop. We laid towels everywhere and notified the front desk immediately. It was hard to sleep with all the noise from the road. Not my favorite stay. read more

Such a cute, kitchy motor lodge. Every room has a little sitting area directly outside and there's a large communal sitting area behind the lodge overlooking a really peaceful field. Check in is fast and very friendly and includes an espresso, water, or a can of Lone Star. How welcoming and very Texas. The rooms are not large, but are comfortable and clean. We had a full (aparment sized) kitchen in ours. The vibe was definitely retro & Texan. Sweet dinette, low slung couch, and pink lamps alongside a cow hide rug. Loved having the pocket door between the living area and bedroom. We napped in complete darkness in the afternoon, then were able to make a little midnight snack well after all the restaurants closed. Is it luxury accommodation? Well, no, and you certainly don't pay for it. What you do get is a kind staff, a clean room, a comfy bed, and AC/heaters that work. We will be back. read more

Oooof! A kind review would be "quaint and reflective of Fredricksburgs old town charm" but honestly, she's just run down and in dire need of a massive remodel. THE GOOD...the window unit AC worked well albeit loud, TV worked well enough (little laggy), bed was reasonably comfortable, for the most part seemed clean, good parking, check in was easy although your getting 1 room key on a keychain old school style. Haven't booked a room that actually used a key in decades which was both nostalgic and inconvenient due to the big plastic diamond shaped keychain...classic! THE BAD...literally hundreds of little mold and mildew spot throughout the shower space, bathroom fixtures were rough and calcified, curtain doesn't cover the bathroom window completely and on a single story room that's pretty unreasonable as someone could pretty easily look in from above, parts of the ceiling were caving in, floors were completely uneven and splitting in places where you could literally see the pier and beam subfloor, shower temp control wouldn't stay set so I was getting scolding hot water one minute and fridged cold the next. It was at this point, while battling water temp, that I broke out uncontrollable laughter at what I had gotten us into. I had already critiqued everything else mentioned above and this was the cherry on top. I felt duped by the pictures and positive reviews pegging the lower reviews as bitter people who just can't be pleased but boy was I wrong. The good reviews are clearly people convincing themselves that their money here was well spent because somehow the haggard conditions of the space lend to the old town experience that Fredricksburg offers. Nope, wrong, she's a dud and needs some serious investment. Based on the pictures, no 2 rooms are created equal here and I think we were dealt a rough hand for the price. Hell, maybe the other rooms are gems compared to ours, but I'm not going to give this place a second chance to be better. We will of course come back to Fredricksburg as we do several times a year but will do ourselves a favor and go back to staying in the chain hotels for similar money. read more

Our recent stay at the hotel was not a pleasant one. The first night we arrived we had issues with the toilet backing up and couldn't use it until the next day. The room was definitely not well maintained for the price we paid. Besides the toilet issues the shower rod was falling off the wall, and one door on the vanity was sprung. Also the handle on the fridge was missing and no kitchen towels were available. we definitely would not recommend this hotel to any one. Tom S. read more

I have been to Fredericksburg many times- but had never stayed here. The city was almost sold out , due to a music festival. So we took a chance on this motel. It was a little like going back in time. It is like the old motor courts. The motel was built in the 1930s. The bathrooms and rooms are updated, and clean. The beds are comfortable, and quiet. We did have one problem with our lock on our door, but management took care of us. They could not have been nicer or more accommodating. The location is great. Due to the festival, the price was high, but I guess it is a matter of supply and demand. It is not like staying at a westin or Hyatt, but it certainly has the charm and personality of a small town . read more

Shocked by the good reviews of this place. Perhaps all the rooms are different, have had different upgrades? My room was awful. Lumpy bed, toilet was not flat to the floor and rocked back and forth. A rocking toilet is NOT good, I felt like I was in an ejector seat. Had to be careful sitting! I can't be sure but what looks like mold on wall behind toilet. All the water is hot even the cold water. Thin walls, spent one night listening to 3 kids next door jumping for hours on the floor and beds. And yet I paid about 50% more for this than my Hilton I had just left in San Antonio. DO NOT STAY HERE. read more

For an overnight stay, decided to try a different type of accommodation in Fredericksburg. Hotel Kitsmiller is an old motor court built in the 40s. It's not fancy and upscale but better. Retro and eclectic. Cool breezeways and little porches. We stayed in the Willie Nelson room. I really liked the red Igloo mini fridge with the side bottle opener. Comfy bed. Cool blanket and rug. Nice touches in the bathroom. Really clean. Took me a minute to get used to the window AC unit. Framed Willie album cover otherwise not too much Willie - stash box and green stuff not included. read more

We stayed in the John Wayne suite with our 2 dogs Boston terriers. The room is clean and the king bed is huge the baths are updated and Matt and his staff are wonderful. So I forgot my jewelry in the bath room the cleaning person took a picture and Matt called us we were already 30 miles out of town but made a turn around and came back. I am proud to say all of it was returned no issues. This restores my faith in, the fact that we all need to shop and stay local. This Family should be proud of the property and they take care of the the customers. Wonderful place to stay will only stay there when we are in Fredericksburg again. Cockroach on floor when first got there in bathroom and bad smell in whole room like mold/mildew. Immediately left and got an Airbnb. Property manager told us to talk to booking.com to see about a refund. Booking.com didn't get a response from them. So not worth the money! read more

The location is centrally located in Fredericksburg. Unfortunately the hotel backs up to a busy side street. Our room was approximately 20' from the road. Very loud traffic until around 11pm. AC needs to be updated. Cycles on and off frequently. It's louder than an AC should be. Check in was different. No one on site and waited an hour after check in for the "phone call". Once the call was received everything went smooth. TV remote didn't work and no one on site to swap it out. No big deal. For the price it was okay. A little TLC would go a long way to make this place shine. read more

Biggest RIPOFF ever ! Advertising themselves as an Airbnb, not even close. Made last minute reservations without doing my due diligence and payed dearly for it. 1 room, 1 night cost about 335$. Thought we were getting a decent ABnB, but it's actually probably a 40 year old motor court/ motel. Great location off the main road in town....just a short drive to adorable shops and restaurants downtown as well as wineries. We planned a last minute trip to Fredericksburg and decided to book here base on the "pretty good" reviews. Boy were we in for a surprise. We are very disappointed in the lack of cleanliness this place had. The floors were sticky and to the point where I wouldn't walk around bare foot as my husbands feet were almost black. The bathroom.....oh let me tell you..... I wouldn't even shower. The grout was black and the shower looked to be held together with hopes and dreams. Not to mention all the, what looked like mold all in the caulking around the shower. I was absolutely disgusted. I emailed the office after our stay to let them know my concerns with no response. We booked this location last minute for a trip to Fredericksburg. The online pictures show clean, quaint, quirky. There are a few things those pics don't correctly portray. These rooms are minute. Looked like someone had jimmied the lock before on one room- it showed a little air around the door frame- quite a few enterprising bugs entered our room through this air pocket- kinda ick. Bathtub looked like it had black marks from other peoples' dirty feet- didn't use it. This room was the Hunters Lodge- had a king bed and a few animal pics on the walls.... this room was $179/ nt plus tax. We basically had few options in Fredericksburg for the number of beds we wanted. Never again would I pay this much at this place . On the good side, this place is functional if you just want a place to lay your head and nothing more- I would probably feel ok paying $50-60 a night. The beds were comfortable and we slept ok. It's obvious that they are working to upgrade the facilities and make it more the place that the pictures show. I'd probably look at the room before reserving. Its a great place to stay if you like having a bedtime. My wife and I were down on business and also to see her daughters graduation. Its been a few months since she had seen her kids. Once we checked in they came over to say hi meet me also spend time with there mom. She booked this motel as it was supposed to be one of the better places to stay at. We get in our room the first thing i noticed was the toilet seat was broke on the left side as you look are looking at it. The knob for the sink was held on by a nail also it easily came off. We turned on the ac to let it cool off inside while we sat outside visiting with two of her kids. After the graduation we met back at the room. We wasn't being to loud or trying not to. This older woman pulled up asking who's car was parked in "her spot". I told her that I didn't know. She went on about how the office said that was her spot. I told her that everyone that was with us was parked in front of our room not across the way. She asked what she was going to do. She was looking at me as she expected me to do something. I told her she would have to take it up with the front office. I also explained that parking had nothing to do with me as I am just a guest. About an hour later my wife's son puled up. Him and I were talking i had gotten a little loud while sitting outside talking to him nothing major. We were talking about what i do for a living and how I was going about expanding to Texas. I did have a few bears in me when I have a few in I tend to get excited and a bit louder than I already am but im still harmless. As the 3 of us are sitting there this man comes walking from in between the buildings. He is screaming and yelling at us as he is walking up. He looks mad. But I also dont know what he is mad about as we have not done nothing wrong. The conversation goes as follows. Manager- as he is running up "Its bed time get your stupid ass in your room right now" Me:"who the fu** are you?" Manager-"im the manager" Me:"well you don't talk or act like a manager" Manager:"I want you out now!!" Me"okay what for" Manager"you're loud and those chairs arnt out here for you to sit in or for company!!!" Me:"oh i didnt know we couldnt have company over. No one told us." Manager" I said get the fu** out now!" Me"okay. Fine. BABY LETS GET OUR STUFF" Owning multiple business in Missouri i know when a staff member says leave that you better. But I also wouldnt have a manager talking to customers the way he did While we were packing our stuff he calls the cops and tells them that we were refusing to leave. Cops show up ask whats going on we tell them. They cut me off in the middle of me telling them and ask for id's. We hand them over and they run out names as we are still pulling stuff out of the room. My wife asked if we were getting our money back. He told us no that he was keeping it all. Okay fine I got ya. After we got all of our stuff out and in the car I tried to give the key to the officer I had delt with and asked him if he would give the key to the "manager" that was standing behind two other officers acting like we mistreated him. The officer told me it wasnt his job but that I could. So I took the key to the manager we got in the car and we left. This could have gone way different if the so called manager would have delt with it in a different way. You can't talk to customer's the way he did and expect them to respond in a positive way. You cant tell people they have a bed time. You cant tell out of town people they can't have friends over. Unless its in your rules and by laws. read more

I love this motel in Fredericksburg! It's close enough to downtown to walk and they have espresso too! It also has a nice seating area outside overlooking a pasture. I like relaxing outside enjoying the view. The managers are friendly and knowledgeable about the Fredericksburg area. The beds are comfortable and it's quiet at night. Thanks for a great stay. We got a free upgrade to one of their newly renovated rooms. The room was the Waylon Jennings room. It felt like we were in our own farm house room with all new fixtures and appliances. Heater didn't work, locks on front door broken, bathroom door didn't lock, food left in the microwave, mold in the bathroom, water temperature in shower went back and forth from scalding hot to cold during showering, floors were dirty. The pics are definitely deceiving! For $169/night I was quite disappointed. I can respect sticking with the 70's chic vibe of the place, but a few things could be updated. When advertising a kitchenette, you would think there would be an equipped kitchenette. There was absolutely nothing in the kitchen besides coffee and a coffee maker. If I plan on using a kitchenette while on vacation, I don't expect to pack an entire suitcase with just kitchen equipment. To add insult to injury the cabinets wouldn't even stay closed, in an already TINY kitchen. It was fairly clean, but felt grimy with the extremely dated carpet, bed, and living room furniture. The sliding door between the two rooms wasn't even on a track and you had to slide it along the carpet; it wouldn't even close all the way. The frame around the door was 3/4 non existent. While settling in, there was rodent noises in the bathroom walls. Then while using the restroom, the toilet wasn't even mounted to the floor and had a piece of cardboard between the toilet and laminated floor to try and keep it level. It was an upgrade from camping, which we had originally planned on doing, but didn't because of the weather. The owners were super nice and helpful with suggestions on places to go, which was welcoming, so that was a plus. I enjoy supporting local businesses, but I would've rather stayed in a motel 6. Unfortunately, this was by far not one of my best experiences. read more

I have gotten in trouble with my spouse before by picking the wrong hotel when trying to save a few bucks, but this one was a hit, and I was so relieved when she loved it. It has a cute retro chic style that harkens back to the roadside motor lodges that dominated the American highways of the 40s and 50s, but this one has been lovingly and creatively restored. The king bed was comfortable, the room clean with plenty of space, up-to-date amenities like a minifrig, microwave, and coffee maker, wifi, and a large flat screen TV. We booked the Willie Nelson room for a Sunday stay to visit Fredericksburg and to go to Enchanted Rock. This hotel is definitely near the outskirts of town so you'll need to drive to the downtown area or bundle up in the winter to walk the 25 mins. There is sidewalk access to get there if you chose to hoof it. The owner was incredibly friendly and helpful. We checked in quickly and were given a key. It's been a while since I've used a key at a hotel. She explained the parking was behind the hotel near the food trailer. I didn't expect it to be on the grass near goats, but it worked. I wouldn't have enjoyed it as much if it would have been wet and muddy. There were cute signs up for the Willie and Waylon parking. The lock and door kind of stuck, and it didn't feel the most secure in the world, but we felt safe. The bed was comfortable and the room was serviceably clean. Though they only left us one wash cloth and two towels. I'm sure we could have asked for more but we just made do with the hand towel. Toiletries were also provided but no hair dryer. The fridge has a lot of ice build up, but it was cold, and there was a coffee maker...though we didn't use it. The review would be higher, but there was a creature in the wall/roof - likely a raccoon. It was disconcerting, but we didn't want to change rooms in the middle of the night. He definitely was not getting in the room, but those little claws made it harder to fall asleep. There was an express check-out that made leaving quite easy. Overall, this place has a lot of charm and quirky and was worth the money we spent. read more

We had a problem with one of the locks on our door and were given a reduced rate. Although you know what to expect in a chain this hotel was a delightful experience.
