We could not see a doctor for my teenager with heavy acne despite having made the appointment weeks in advance. So they assigned the nurse practitioner Kate Mc Cabe who looks like she is right out of school and honestly knew less than my son whom had done his extensive research. She insisted on a lotion, rather than the Accutane saying if the lotion does not work, we will prescribe the accutane. 7 weeks later, I go back to the office to get the accutane prescription as his acne had got worst, and I explained that it was creating anxiety and stress for my son and the family. She said we had to make a new appointment to get the prescription, which obviously was their plan all along so they can charge us another $50 co-payment and invoice a fortune to our insurrance. I would stay away from this scam dermatologist obviously abusing the system. read more

I received care here and everyone was great but nobody ever picks up the phone. I have called 4 to 5 times trying to pay an invoice and I've been unable to reach anyone. It's like nobody works there. I've tried calling at different times of day, different days of the week, and nothing. read more

This place is very disorganized and disingenuous. Specifically doctor Teresa Fukuda. Here is a list of things. She messed up during my short time at O'Brien dermatology: - ignored my medical chart / history that I sent over and discussed with her. - forced additional medical requirements on me that I did not want. - sent a prescription to a pharmacy out of stock for the medicine requested. - can't get in touch with her at all - pressured me into an unnecessary follow up visits so she could collect $ - dodges calls and hides behind their reception desk in Winchester - find any other doctors office! - ineffective care and the bathroom was disgusting when I visited. I have gone to dermatology associates in the past and visited with Dr. Solke. Very pleased with his services.. I recently went to get a checkup over some spots to make sure that they were not going to cause a problem . Alex was very nice. Here's my problem: If you haven't been there in 3 years they bill you $200.00 as a new patient. Now mind you, they have my billing and insurance information on file and had no problem sending me the remainder of the bill after they billed insurance. They didn't have to set up a thing on the account. So why the new patient billing? The explanation in the office was this is "customary". Customary? Sounds like a convenient way to make more money. They didn't have to set up anything. Very disappointed at this money grab tactic. read more

My special needs son was a patient of this practice. They used to accept one of his health insurance companies (he has two)but they don't anymore. They accept one but not the other but they told me they will not treat him because they don't accept the second insurance. So now we have to introduce him to a new practice. Let's hope he gets treated with respect. How can a practice refuse to treat one of their patients? So disappointing. read more

I have seen a couple of different doctors here - Dr. Danahy and Dr. O'BrJen - both fantastic - as a long term rosacea and just general problematic skin patient, the care here has been exceptional- they are so thorough, professional and kind. Preface: This is going to be 4 stars until my next 1-2 visits, because I do want to see if my suggested treatments work out. I visited Derm Assoc. today for the first time because I needed to see someone about two completely different issues- acne and a recurring foot problem. (We have dubbed the foot problem "greyscale" in my house). I saw a nurse practitioner who was super thorough and down to business. She gave me tons of free product for my skin (two full size items and 6 medium sample sizes), and put me on scripts for my acne, both pill form and topical. The foot issue: unsure on how to treat just yet- waiting on results from the lab. I was in and out in no time, but didn't feel rushed at all. The front desk was amazingly efficient as well... seems like this place runs like a top! And everyone was helpful. I'm headed back in mid December and will update then! read more

I went back for a consult on a skin irregularity after previously seeing them in Winchester without issue. This time in Readjng the concept went fine until I got the bill. They billed me extra as a "new customer" even though I was returning. They didn't return my call for weeks, so I sent in a partial payment leaving a $50 balance. They sent me second notice threatening collections before ever calling me back. Once they called me back, they denied returning patient pricing, because what Dr would grub for an extra $130 if insurance would let them act like you were a new patient. Before I could respond, before the 2nd notice was even due, it went to collections. Again I sent partial payment because this time my HSA account didn't have the $50 in it to cover the balance. Yet these jerks fraudulently charged the full amount and over drafted my account. This office is a money whore, not a patient care facility. Beware. read more

Awful experience in the laser office with Cathy. After receiving multiple laser treatments, and typically waiting for at least 15 minutes or more after my appointment was to start, I decided to let her know that I waited for 25 minutes and that was unreasonable. She took the feedback horribly and was more than a little unprofessional. After the treatment, she left the room in a huff, to the back office. I needed to update my prescription but she never appeared again, I guess she was still sulking. I provided this feedback to the office via their automated survey. No one ever contacted me. I will never return to that office after such an outrageously childish reaction to my very politely given criticism. read more

I had an appointment with Theresa Fukuda today and was so pleased with how it went. I had a spot on my nose that needed to be tested...I was a little nervous but she made me feel so comfortable. You can just tell she is a kind person and it really helps that she really knows what she is talking about. I've been here twice. As a former Melanoma victim, any unusual spot turning up in the same area to me is suspect. When I tried to explain it to the female doc, she brushed it off and told me the new area, (when it was less than an inch away from the first malignancy) was fine and not to worry about it. I was somewhat surprised at her opinion and will return to my original podiatrist for a second opinion. I cannot in good conscious rate this group any higher than 3 stars. My first visit went pretty much the same way so I'm sorry to say I will NOT return to this group for any reason. I see Theresa Fukuda every time and I'm so impressed with her knowledge and the fact that she takes time to explain everything to me and thoroughly answers my questions. She makes me feel so comfortable every time, never rushes, and thoroughly discusses all of my treatment options and puts everything in layman's terms. Are you kidding me? i Feel so stressed out when I leave this place, you wait for at least 30 mins to be seen and once you are seen you are rushed out of there!!! I went to see Teresa Fakuda and well she spoke 6000 words a second, my daughter and I couldn't keep up with what the hell she was talking about. I was there a month ago for my daughters acne and a guess to go on accutane you have to take a pregnancy test etc. Etc. I knew this because my other daughter did the same but the pregnancy test was Taken in office with my other daughter. Here you have to do it at home and then call them. Well, of course miss 6000 words a minute might have told me that but i missed it and so did my 13 year old daughter, so now we have to wait another month!! plus I had to pay the 40$ copay ridiculous!!!! An excellent experience with Dr. Shofner. As a new patient, I was scheduled for my visit in less than a month and was able to get a weekend appointment. When I arrived the front desk staff member was super nice (she even helped a gentleman fill out his forms when he couldn't see well enough to). Paper process was quick and as soon as I was done, I was brought back to the exam room, no wait at all. Dr. Shofner came in just a couple of minutes later. He was personable, very easy to speak with and made me feel comfortable. I work in biotech and was impressed that he knew of the drug class that I worked with...I can't say any other doctor I have ever talked with has had a clue, so he definitely keeps up on the current happenings in medicine. I have been going to Dr. O'Brien's office for 10 years. The one time I tried a different office, during my pregnancy, I regretted it because unfortunately my condition was misdiagnosed. Give me some cream that only made it worse and more red and then received a bill in the mail for $180 even though they told me my insurance had taken care of it. I have been going to Dermatology Associates for several years now. The past few times I have been there I was very disappointed to say the least. I had a 10:45am appointment, was taken at exactly 10:45, greeted by the Dr. at 10:46am. Great...so you would think. I explained to her what I would like to have done and she rushed through doing a HORRIBLE job, walking out of the room at 10:54! Each time I've been she has suggested the "Laser Folks" could help me out. Unfortunately, my insurance does not pay for Laser treatments and I can't afford them. I am very disappointed in her and will not go back there. It's run like a meat factory now...get them in, get them out, not caring what kind of a job they do! read more

I called to reschedule my appointment and the receptionist kept asking me the reason why I scheduled the appointment. Shouldn't the information be in your system when I first called to make the appointment? This shows me that the first person didn't write down my information or the person answering the phone the second time didn't bother to look at my file. The receptionist who answered the phone sounded annoyed that I called to reschedule the appointment. Providing great customer service to your patience is key. This is an excellent group of dermatologists. I've seen several members of the group for skin issues and they've all been incredibly nice and very professional. Drs. Masterpol and Danahy are particularly excellent. They have also *finally* solved skin problems that have bothered me for over 15 years. Dr. Jeanie King is my dermatologist and although she is nice and the office space itself is well kept, she was often very late. For my most recent appointment she was an hour late. Thats unacceptable. Especially since because she's so late, my appointments are always very rushed and I feel like the proper care isn't being given to me. I feel like I'm not being prioritized at all as a patient. Most likely will not be coming back. read more

Today I saw Jeanne King in the Winchester office for my first appointment with concerns of cystic and adult acne. She spent all of three minutes with me and looked at my face once. My concerns were not only NOT heard, they were belittled. She went so far as to tell me my face "was fine" and to continue whatever I am doing. This is not the thing you want to hear when you are seeking professional medical advice. I did not research dermatology associates, pay a high co-pay and have a referral sent over to be treated with such lack of respect. My questions about treatments and other routes to take went unanswered and was handed a neutrogena sample. I work in the healthcare industry and if I EVER dismissed patients concerns and treated them like this I would be fired. I am EXTREMELY disappointed with the lack of knowledge and care received. I would highly recommend going elsewhere to have your concerns be dealt with. read more

I love this office! I had a spot on my skin that I was worried about and not only did they give me an appointment within a few days but when the doctor explained to me that it was nothing to worry about she also told me I could see the laser specialist to remove it. When I went to check out to make the appointment for the laser the staff was so friendly and accommodating. The receptionist said if I could wait a few minutes she would ask the laser nurse if she could do the treatment while I was at the office. I don't think I even waited more than 10 minutes and I was seen by the laser nurse and had the spot treated. The office is big and busy but somehow they made me feel like my concern was their top priority. I highly recommend Doctor Robert O'Brien and his associates. read more

I had an appointment with Dr. O'Brien and he was the best. He was so thorough and kind. He actually sat on a chair and took the time to listen. So many doctors, just don't listen. He gave me a cream, that really has helped my condition. I heard he is the best doctor around for botox, so I mad an appointment with him for that. I went to a salon ion Winchester for Botox and it screwed up my forehead. The office was beautiful, modern and clean. The staff was nice and welcoming. I went to take my child to an appointment. We arrive a little late because the only appointment they had was just as school was letting out. Upon arrival I was told I'd need to reschedule. In addition there were 7 people standing in the office and I was told they were short staffed and unable to schedule an appointment. One staff member told another well they were late. It's sad to see new patients treated so poorly and with such disregard. Staff members ignored that an appointment needed to be made and trained one another on a separate computer. I believe the incident was racially motivated as all other clients were treated with respect. read more

A couple of weeks ago I saw Dr. Grevelink for a consultation & she was so nice & professional. Today I saw Dr. Shofner to have two moles removed & he was so nice & professional. Both made me feel comfortable right from their introduction. My procedure was quick & painless. Dr. Shofner & his assistant made small talk with me so it took my mind off of what was actually going on. The Doctors, nurses and front desk are all awesome, and go out if thier way to assist and make you feel comfortable. However, the billing department is very unfriendly. This is my reason for 4 stars. I suppose they come across many problems, but if you have someone willing to do their leg work for referrals etc. you should be polite to them. They are not, and will not help. After many phone calls and attempts to work with them, I had to go directly to my insurance company for help. Thankfully they were aware of this office and it's problematic billing dept, and I was able to have my situation rectified. Please do not listen to this office if they say you do not need a ref'l. I brought my 1 year old to her pedi in the same building as Dr. OBriens office. Her hair was falling out, the pedi sent me down the hall to dermatology to make an appointment. I know specialist tend to book out so I wasn't expecting an appointment ASAP. When I walked in the office and greeted by the friendly front desk staff and let them know what was going on with my daughter, they found me an appointment the next day, while I was still at the front desk making the appointment, one of the MDs came out of an exam room, one of the staff memebers, I believe her name was Laura, went and talked to the MD and they told me that she would fit me in the same day if I could wait 10 min. Already being stressed out with her situation it was a sudden relief that they were so kind to get my daughter in the same day. They were so efficient and kind and I would recommend this office to anyone looking for a dermatologist!!! read more

I've gone to about half a dozen dermatologists in the area and countless others elsewhere. Dr. Shofner is by and large the best one I have ever seen. The office staff are wonderful and helped me schedule even last-minute appointments. Dr. Shofner proved to be incredibly knowledgable, kind, and personable. I like to know the science behind what's going on, and Dr. Shofner - unlike most dermatologists - is actually willing/able to explain things to me. I've left the state of MA, but I truly wish I could take Dr. Shofner with me. Couldn't recommend anyone else! read more
