They immediately brought us to a private room and examined our fur baby to confirm the passing. They stayed with us for a while providing comfort to us, then let us stay alone with our cat until we were ready to go. They arranged for a private cremation and provided us the contact information of the funeral home along with the ashes, a packet of fur, and a beautiful ceramic heart with Luna's paw prints. Days later we received a beautiful heartfelt sympathy card signed by the whole staff. Very caring, professional, personal, and much appreciated! Highly recommend this Hospital for your pet needs!

Yet it seemed worth the drive, the techs, doctors and front desk was very personable. Nice place. I did not care for the recommend trazodone doctor suggested ..for her fireworks anxiety. If the dog is having panic attacks....trying to knock them out will often make it worse. I have seen sleeping meds do more harm. It can make them feel less in control and I have seen trying to knock a dog or cat out when they are panicked, can increass their panic. So I do not recommend trazodone for panic attacks. Told him she was given dog valium... it seemed to work ok.. about 40% calmer. That is a lot compared to a full panic attack. The fireworks (3-4) times a year she can go into terror and shaking,.., and bad thunder scares her but not nearly as bad. She trembles and wont eat drink or such. Other than that the visit was great. They texted a follow up too. Will need to come back to pick up the flea /tick/heartworm yearly meds. Dog nail trim they did a good job too. Glad we took our dogs here.

I was so impressed with this Veterinary office. My 13yr old dog was having some stomach issues…read more She's not the friendliest dog. She gets nervous easy and so starts to bark. She sounds and looks scary, which makes most people tense up and that makes the situation worse. This usually happens even at vets offices. But for the first time in her long life she was made to feel comfortable at a vet office! Both the vet tech (so sorry I don't remember her name - she was WONDERFUL) and Dr. Lynn were so good with her. The got down on here level, approached from the side (something we will advise others to try going forward) and were patient and gave her treats. After just a little bit of working with and on her, my nervous dog happily left the exam room WITH Dr. Lynn without even looking back at us. I've NEVER seen her do that ... even with people she knows. Now for the important stuff. Her stomach is better. They did testing, but before getting all of the results gave me some things and suggestions to help her at home. And it all worked wonderfully. She's gaining weight again. Her stomach is good. She sleeps through the night again. AND as an added bonus, after months of trying everything under the sun they also gave me a solution to the fleas that actually worked! Which is a huge relief for us and the dog. Love this place. Prices weren't the cheapest but very reasonable for all they did.

This is long, however, worth reading…read more I want to start by saying everyone here is extremely friendly. We have taken multiple animals here over the years and always had pleasant experiences. That being said, whenever we are there and there is an issue, I never feel we get clear guidance on what to do. It almost always seems like it's a list of things we can do and let us choose rather than professional recommendations. Almost like, how much money are you willing to spend while you take shots at fixing this? This really came to a head here recently when I feel diagnosing our puppy with kidney disease was poorly handled and almost mishandled in my opinion which has resulted in a 1.5 year dog having stage three kidney failure. After years of only having one dog, we decided to finally get another and we went and got an 8 week old Dalmatian puppy. Immediately we realized that he would not stop drinking water (to the point he would throw up) and had more frequent than normal accidents in the house. When bringing this up, we were told that they could do a blood test, however, he is too young to have kidney issues and it is most likely a disorder that makes him obsessed with water and he will grow out of it. We continued to bring this up on every visit and were told to limit his water and he would grow out of it. Finally, when we came in and he was around 1.5 years old, they decided to do blood work and found out he was in stage 3 kidney failure. They recommended an ultrasound and sterile urine sample which we did. Based on the findings they said he should immediately be put on antibiotics because something they found points to a possible infection and we were prescribed over $100 in antibiotics. It was also determined his bladder wasn't normal size and things seen on the kidneys point to issues. We were told time is of the essence and we had to get him on the antibiotics. They said special kidney food was important but never made it seem urgent. If they had, they would have tried to send it home with us that day. A couple days later they called and let us know an infection was not an underlying issue. Honestly, it seriously felt like it was about the money and not properly treating our dog. They then sent a referral to go to Virginia Tech to see a specialist. Virginia Tech would not be able to get us in until 9/25. Months later. This is where I really start to get aggravated. They claim every second matters but recommend us to a place that can't get us in for months. Luckily my wife knows a veterinarian and they refer us to a Specialist who is in Vinton and was an Internist/Professor at VT for over 20 years. He got us in the following week. Why in the world would Roanoke Animal Hospital not have referred us to him? There is absolutely no way they didn't know about him. Unfortunately, he did confirm Stage 3 Kidney failure and gave us some recommendations. One thing he said was that no matter what, we have to let him drink as much water as he wants. If not, it can start to cause issues with his organs. Because we do not have bloodwork from when Pongo was a puppy, I have not clue if he has always been in Stage 3 Kidney failure. That being said, what if he WASN'T? What if they had recommended we do blood work and we found out what was going on early and immediately did stuff to slow down the progression? How much damage has limiting his water for 1.5 years at the direction of the Vet done? Now my family has to deal with the fact that the puppy we love might only be alive until he is 3 or so. The ball was dropped. And I hope this really makes Roanoke Animal Hospital rethink things and take a much more proactive approach to stuff. Nothing can fix this, however, I hope this prevents another family from having to deal with the same heartbreak.

I have been going to this practice for years. Unfortunately, things seemed to have changed…read moredrastically. I brought my cat in because her feline hyperesthesia had recently worsened and I was hoping to receive guidance on how to help her. Unfortunately, I left the appointment feeling frustrated, uncomfortable and shamed rather than supported. During the visit, the provider made harsh weight-related comments about my cat without offering any explanation of body condition score or any type of weight-loss plan/foods. I was told she should weigh 11 pounds specifically even though she currently weighs 17 pounds and is clearly a large-framed cat. The way this was communicated felt shaming and judgmental rather than constructive. When discussing feline hyperesthesia, the provider told me this diagnosis is strictly psychological. It is multifactorial and saying it's only psychological is an oversimplification. My cat was taken to the back for bloodwork and returned with treat paste all over her face and neck. She has never eaten one of those treats when offered and normally goes so far as to gag when sniffing them. Her entire hind end was also drenched in rubbing alcohol. She remained visibly upset for the rest of the day. I feel guilty for subjecting her to a place that was supposed to be safe and helpful. Since this visit, I have spoken with other pet owners who have said they transferred away from this clinic because of similar experiences. Pet owners seeking help for their animals deserve supportive communication and clear medical guidance. I will be immediately switching to another veterinarian.

The concern and care given both owners and their cats is unmatched by other establishments. I have…read morebeen most impressed by the friendly and welcoming staff at this location.
