My friend and I just returned from our trip our trip to vegas. The guided tour thru black rock canyon was the highlight of our trip. Being from the northeast and not knowing what to expect weather wise and having limited packing ability, Melissa in the office was extremely helpful with what to wear, bring, what to expect etc. We were picked up at our las vegas hotel on time, as planned. We put in at the base of the Hoover dam, a breathtaking experience! We made several stops for short hikes to waterfalls and hot springs along the way. Sneakers are a MUST! Our guide spencer was AWESOME! Extremely helpful, knowledgeable of the area, landscape, wildlife, rocks, history etc...we stopped at one of the beaches for a great lunch the provided. We arrived at willow beach on time and were met by the van and the staff was efficient in loading boats and packing up. They even went above and beyond to stop so we can see some mountain sheep in the park! Overall an amazing experience. Well worth every dollar! I would highly recommend this trip and will definitely return. read more

We took a kayak trip down the Colorado river while we were visiting Vegas. It was the first time we've actually done something "fun" while in "THE BIG CITY". The guide picked us up at the hotel - it was just a short drive. We were provided with a fun-filled day of kayaking, trails, a lunch, and so much more. We went on a kayaking tour today. I had no idea what to expect other than kayaking down the river in the black canyon. We launched from the base is the Hoover Dam. Antonio was our guide. It was unbelievably beautiful. We started off and along be way we stopped and went on two hikes. One to a bit springs cave and another into another hot springs canyon. It was Unbelievable! Antonio was very knowledgeable about the area, not just the history but the wildlife we saw ( a hawk, peregrine falcon, blue heron and big horn sheep to name a few). The kayaking was 11 moles total not including the small hikes. My family had so much fun and learned a lot too. I would HIGHLY recommend this tour and Antonio, he was AWESOME! But make sure you are in good shape because you will get a workout. We would definitely go on another tour with them! read more

Desert Adventures made a horrible situation even worse. I was scheduled for a great weekend down the Colorado River, and few days before, I had a very unexpected death in the family. Considering it was days from the holiday weekend, I was amazed at every business that offered refunds due to bereavement cancelation, with the only exception of Desert Adventures. Hotels, rental car, and even an airline refunded my money less than 24 hours before the flight, even though their policy was "no refund." Desert Adventure offered nothing and took all my money with no remorse. Shame on them!. read more

Buyer Beware!!! Their cancellation policy is not very friendly. Please read on their website. I can understand rebooking fees, etc. due to the nature of the business and the fact that they have to plan ahead for equipment, etc., but the policy seems a little too harsh to be fair. Even the weekend I booked, we had a bad storm come through town, and there was no mention of any leniency even due to storm events! read more

These people are highly unprofessional. I would not recommed anyone doing business with them and renting anything from them. The pickup guy came late. They dont value people's time. They never told us that they will charge us extra $60 for an early pickup and lied straight to our face saying that it was obvious. I would never do business with them again. Blackwater canyon is a beautiful place and the river is not a difficult paddle. We loved being there, hiking the side canyons, and sitting in a few hot springs. The fellows who picked us up at the hotel were prompt and gave us a lot of information concerning the local area. Our only disappointment was the guide (Gerald) who went with us kayaking down the river. His was not personable, gave us very little direction as to what to expect, and at times his comments were borderline rude. I would recommend this trip, but with a different guide. read more

kayaked from the base of the hoover dam to willow beach. What an amazing experience!!! It began with the restricted road we took down to the hoover dam. The driver gave us a bit of a historical perspective which was really cool. the weather was perfect and the extra help from some tail wind was awesome. We stopped frequently to explore the spots highlighted on the map and still got back in time. our only complaint is the way the pick up works. It took us about 1 hour after pickup time to actually begin our journey back to the hotel. To make matters worse, one of the vans blocked our car in and the driver proceeded to finish his duties before moving the van, which was very annoying. the annoyance factor might have been exacerbated by a full day of rowing in the sun. All in all, every person living in Las Vegas should do this. P.S. beware of a rogue nudist in the hot springs on the arizona side. A lady in our launch group was unpleasantly surprised by this individual. It made for a good laugh but it couldve just as well been a child. Apparently the park services know about this free baller but cant do anything about it unless they catch him "in the act". read more

We made reservations over the phone & had 2 drive 2 hacienda casino/hotel in boulder city 2 meet the staff from desert adventures. We signed some papers, got in a van w like 8 other people & they took us 2 r starting point, which wuz right under the Hoover dam. We were ready get out of the van & kayak but we were notified 2 stay in the van a little while longer... The staff told us someone had jumped off from the bridge above (pat Tillman bridge) earlier that morning & they had 2 clear the area. We ended up waiting 2 get the "ok" & that took about 30minutes. I got kinda creeped out thinking wut if that person wuz floating in the river where we were kayaking??? That didn't stop us from going down the Colorado river. It wuz a sunny day (July 2012) & we enjoyed cruising down the calm water. We didn't want 2 stop anywhere, which we were allowed at certain spots. I ended up jumping in the freezing cold river & hopped back in the kayak. It wuz so peaceful my bf took a short nap while I paddled. Towards the end, we were getting tired & just wanted 2 b done w it. The journey took up the whole day!!! We ate at this restaurant/ gift shop place at the end. Then the staff came & picked us up. They dropped us off back at the hacienda hotel & we were exhausted!!! We had a blast!!! The only gripe I have is that it's far away from the Vegas strip. Excellent customer service & company!!! By the way, u can bring your own backpack w food & drinks. read more

My fiance surprised me with an early Valentine's day present last week when he told me we'd be taking a kyaking day trip with Desert Adventures. Let me just say that we love to try new things, and the staff at Desert Adventures did not disappoint. Apparently this time of year is their slow season (which blows my mind, because the weather has been so perfect lately), so our weekday tour last week ended up being a private 10-hour excursion with Reid (who was awesome, friendly, and very informative). We launched from the base of the Hoover Dam and spent the entire day paddling down the Colorado, making several stops for short hikes and visits to hot springs, a sauna cave, and even a mountain lion's den. The included lunch was yummy, and we enjoyed it on a private beach half way through our 11-mile journey. Just a brief word of warning: the Colorado River has very little current past the dam this time of year, so be prepared to paddle most of the day if you choose this particular excursion. Overall, this was a wonderful and affordable way for us to explore the beauty of the Hoover Dam and the Colorado River. I would do it again in a heartbeat! Check out this company... Our (private / no guide) group of 12 (6 adults ./ 6 teenagers) kayaked the Colorado river / Black's Canyon and used Desert Adventures as our outfitter. First off - Black's Canyon is an amazingly beautiful place with much to see and do on/off the river. Desert Adventures is also a first rate/professional outfitter. Our kayaks/gear were great, as was the shuttle service. And they helped salvage our trip when an unforeseen event at the river could have shut us down. I highly recommend them so give them a call and book a trip before it gets too hot! read more

Just returned from the full day Black Canyon guided tour. The day started early and ended late (as planned) ...be prepared for a day of adventure and fun. The equipment was in good working order, however I would recommend adding kayak leashes especially on windy days. I'm an experienced paddler and the paddle nearly got bucked out of my grip by the wind a couple times, I'd hate to have to buy a new one had I lost it as we are responsible if equipment is lost or damaged. The lunch provided was huge and delicious and welcomed as we had a full day of crazy wind to battle nearly all 12 miles. Our group was great, no whining and we all kept up with our guide Mahan. The hikes were so fun with ladders, ropes, hot springs..and just tons of breathtaking beauty. Super bummed because emerald cave was a bust...apparently the conditions have to be "just right" for it to show like the pictures we see in the website. I would go back just to see it! Our guide Mahan was super helpful, knowledgable, and just enough goofball to be charming. I had a great discussion with him regarding handmade wooden boats and we both came to conclusion that great wood is very hard to come by :) Sass is a good thing. Highly recommended!! read more

Had a great time with my Dad. Our tour guide Sam, was great! I think he and my dad are now best friends and I'm a little bit jealous lol. Only thing is this place people are calling Emerald Cave is a "nook." I thought Sam could push a button in the "cave" and have the back wall open up to a system of caves....but he's still working on his super powers and he did help me when the kayak tipped over so we can cut him a break. ;) read more

Signed up for a one day kayak trip down the Black Canyon Colorado River near the Hoover Dam. This is about about a 12 mile kayak ride down the river. We had a guide (Antonio) that took us down the river and stops along the way to check out beautiful hot springs of different temperatures. This was a GREAT trip I highly recommend it. The guide we had was very knowledgable about the area and really knows his stuff. Its a easy, relaxing 12 miles down the river. A lot of fun!! Desert Adventures rocks!! I visit Vegas several times a year and am always looking to spice up trips with new outdoor adventures that take me out of the casino for a bit. I love to Kayak and fish so linking up with DA for a 1/2 day kayak rental as def. on the list. When I only have a few days to spare, I value convenience and a smooth process and that's exactly what I got from Da, plus a great kayak at a fantastic rental rate. After a few email exchanges, I finalized my rental and free delivery to Lake Mead with a short phone call. We did a self guided paddleboard rental. We met at the location at 9:30 am and the paperwork was a breeze! Following the van down to the lake was also easy. We helped unload the paddleboards, got some quick instruction, and then we were off and running! My kids picked the sport up instantly! My husband and I had a ton of fun as well, even if we were exhausted afterwards! The staff went above and beyond to help us. Normally they require a full 4 hours of rental, which was too much time for us, so we asked in advance if there was any way that we could turn the boards in early. After some communication, and uncertainty, it was confirmed that we could drop the boards off early and with a guide that was already going to be on the lake all day. The only changes I would make is that I would have like a little more instruction time (how to accurately size our paddles, how to paddle correctly, etc.) before going out on the lake, and I think it should be an option to have a lower rental time frame than 4 hours, rather than having to make an exception. 4 hours is a long time, especially if you are not accustomed to being on a paddleboard. Just my two cents. Overall this is a great company and we would absolutely recommend them, or rent from them again! Thanks! read more

We did the guided Black Canyon river trip and it was awesome. Our guide was friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Our driver was great too - very entertaining, he picked us up and dropped us off at our hotel. It is a huge benefit having transportation provided like that. We reserved our trip a few months in advance and had plenty of helpful dialog with the shop right up to the day of the trip. This is a good quality company - highly recommended! read more

So enjoyed the Ringbolt overnight kayak tour. Marvelous canyon and the comaradarie of good friends. However, our river guide, Ghryll aka Gerald, really creeped us out!!! Definitely go with a different guide for a 5 star trip. read more

A group of 4 used Desert Adventures as a shuttle service. For the volume of people that go through this organization they just don't seem very organized. We advised them we had inflatable kayaks but they failed to inform us that we needed our boats all rigged up when we arrived to be driven to launch point. So a hurry up hassle the first morning. The driver really stressed the point that we needed to be at the take out at 3:30 or we would be left behind and pay a high fee for a private transport back. Our group and the other group were at the take out, packed up and ready to go at 3:30. First van arrived at 4:00 and was big enough to take us all back but he stated he had to wait for 2 more vans and they were expecting a large group of kayakers in another hour! Oh I see, we get fined for running late but you can inconvenience us at a whim with no repercussions. Poor customer service at the management end. The guys on the vans seemed like pretty good guys despite this buffoonery. None the less we ran 2 hours late which made my drive home arrive at 2 am vs midnight. I will look elsewhere next time. read more
