Amazing! If anyone is thinking about going out to the lake to kayak. I highly recommend this place! They are very helpful and efficient. You can also rent other stuff but my experience is solely on the kayaks. It is $60 to rent a two seater sit in kayak for 4 hours. There's also one seater kayaks and ones where you sit on top which are cheaper, but I suggest you get the "sit in" ones. You might not think 4 hours is a long time but boy is it! It is the perfect amount of time. Bob had us follow him to lake. It really wasn't too far from the actual store. Probably a 7 minute ride to the destination. He dropped our kayaks off and did a quick tutorial for us. Kayaks for Dummies. The day we went it was windy and cloudy. So the paddling against the currents was a mission but so much fun! The sun was hiding behind the clouds most of the time and it even started raining for a little bit which I thought was beautiful. We made pit stops at various locations. We even stopped at this little cliff and did some cliff jumping. Very safe cliff with our life vests on of course! We got back to shore exactly 4 hours later and Bob returned shortly after us to pick up the kayaks. Very efficient! It was a great day! And a good workout too! read more

We spent the weekend in Vegas and wanted to do some outdoor activities. We are really lucky to find this place! Our guide Gianni was excellent!!! He was accompanying us the whole day including pick-up and drop-off. He not only guided us through a very fun kayak trip back and forth between Willow Beach and Emerald Cave, but also taught our kids how to look for different types of rocks and talked about the history of the cities along the way. He took a lot of pictures for us on the river and the hiking trail. On our way back, he took us to see the big horn sheep in a park, which made a perfect ending of the day trip. The lunch was healthy. They included fruits and vegetables in addition to sandwich. Of course the chocolate cookies made the kids very happy. It is worth every penny! Never again will I use this company's services. They don't care about the customers safety, just the money. Our trip started out fun but that ended quickly after our 2nd stop. The winds kicked up, paddling became a struggle and if you weren't paddling, then you were pushed backwards. We got back to the pick up site at 432 only to find ourselves stranded. No cell service, no pay phone, no way to contact the driver. Luckily, a couple happened to be leaving and gave two of us a lift to pick up our vehicles. While the others went to retrieve the car, the four of us stayed behind to clean up the canoes to secure the life vests to the canoes, and to make sure the canoes were in a safe place. It was almost 6 pm and the sun was starting to set when our ride made it back. In the meantime, the driver was notified that we were back only after we had cell service, and he was going to come back to pick us up. We left when the driver made it back but we were already in the car bc of the cold and winds. We understand the policies, but do believe that you should not leave customers abandoned, especially wind, water, and many other components to our safety and possible danger. read more

I'll always have fond memories of Memorial Day weekend kayaking the Black Canyon with Desert Adventures (DA). They made my first-time canoeing along the Colorado river experience an adventurous one. This section of Black Canyon is moving flat-water with tons of fun sights to see (not a whitewater trip). It is perfect for first timers as well as seasoned paddlers. I love that there are sights to explore and see--kayaking, hiking (short hikes in narrow slot canyons. Terrain is flat gravel washes, and volcanic rock, wet and slippery), swimming (the river is a constant 55F, pretty cold), hot springs (85F - 120F), and wildlife viewing. You can either do some hiking in the canyons, brave the humidity in the Sauna Cave, cool off near waterfalls, relax in the hot springs, IG the emerald green waters in Emerald Cave, and camp along the beach. My friends and I did the 2 day, 1-night camping trip. It's self-guided and all we did was rent the canoes, paddles, and life vests from DA. The route is about 12 miles, ~5-6 hours of paddling down the Colorado River. Water conditions are mostly flat, but can be choppy depending on wind, waves, and weather. Some sections have strong eddy lines and currents. Tips: - Read the info sheet/map they give you thoroughly. Tons of important River Rules to know, highlights along the route, and a trusty map. - Tie up boats to large, heavy rocks or tree branches. The river water fluctuates quickly and if you're staying overnight, the water rises quite a bit in the evening. We found ourselves pulling up our canoes further up the beach in the evening. - Wear sunscreen and reapply every 2 hours. - Bring tons of water. Rule of thumb: 1 gallon/person/day. - Don't breathe in the hot springs water up your nose. Beware of the Naegleria Fowleri, an amoeba common to hot springs may enter up the nose causing death. - Since it's a "Leave No Trace" place, where you pack out what you pack in (that includes your poop). Make your own wag bag: trash bag + cat litter. - Wear your swimsuit so you're ready to venture into the Sauna Cave and Hot Springs. - Going downstream Black Canyon (Hoover Dam to Willow Beach, north to south) requires a permit and you need to have companies like DA bring you in. No need to get a permit if you decide to paddle upstream instead. Equipment: The canoe, paddles, and life jackets were in good shape. The vans they shuttled us in from the pickup spot to Hoover Dam and from Willow Beach back to home base were clean and spacious vans. Service: DA was efficient with checking our big group of 16 people. I highly recommended arriving with completed waiver forms so it makes checking-in efficient. Our guide gave a detailed safety briefing on what to expect. He worked for the company about seven years, friendly, and a wealth of knowledge. On our trip back to home base from Willow Beach Desert Adventures even gave us Otter Pops to cool us off in the hot weather. Suggestion to DA: It would have been nice to have basic canoe/padding instructions. One of the best canoeing, floating, camping, adventures I've ever had the opportunity of enjoying. This company was very helpful from start to finish. All the info you could ever need plus some cool fun facts about the location. Our guide/driver Jacob had heaps of knowledge that you would never know just by walking around. Everything seemed interesting and he actually turned out to be a pretty decent photographer. The canoes were HUGE and could probably hold a wagon of food if needed. Just remember you're the one that has to row it down the river;) We were able to bask in hot springs, jump off of cliffs, enjoy boat loads of wildlife( skunks, sheep, tarantula hawks!) Make sure you bring some good water shoes and take lots of pics. Brilliant tour and would 10/10 recommend. There aren't many things that are better than floating down the river with a beer in hand. We went tandem kayaking on the early 0600 pick up time on Friday 17th of July. The weather was hot but perfect. The entire team was excellent in their instructions and care from the time we initially booked it, cancelled due to inclement weather last year, and then through booking another date this time. I'm so glad you guys honor the rebooking promise. The guys that helped bring us down to the base of Hoover Dam were very informative and gave us a very interesting tour and information about the history about the Dam. He was very helpful in carying our equipment as well as the kayak down onto the river then he gave us some great tips to enjoy on our unguided tour at the end the two guys who helped us out afterwards were very kind and really cool as well. Emerald Cave was awesome. Just kayaking on the Colorado River 30 minutes from vegas was amazing. Beautiful scenery on the way. Wildlife etc These folks bring all the equipment and you just show up and it's yours for 4 hours. Make sure you go on a sunny day or you'll freeze as the Co River is like 45 degrees! read more

This is the second year we have done a self-guided tour with 2-3 days camping along the way from Hoover Dam to Willow Beach. Both times we were most impressed with Shuttle/Guide Antonio, he was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful from beginning to end. This year we had a small incident at launch and he went over and beyond to help us!! He saved the day for sure!!! Our group of five did the self guided kayak trip. We launched at Hoover Damn and ended at Willow Beach, about 12 miles. Overall the trip was amazing but I do think there are some things that Desert Adventures could improve on. We arrived at the Boulder Lodge at 6 am for check in. There was a couple that had signed up that were about 30, 40 minutes late. Nothing against this couple as they were very nice but I do think since they have pick ups throughout the morning that this 6 a.m. group should have left on time and they depart on the next pick up. When we got to Hoover Dam to launch they were short a single kayak. Ironically, when we were at the Boulder Lodge someone said it didn't look like there were enough kayaks. So that person had to wait while Desert Adventures went back for his kayak while the rest of his group went ahead. I would think that number of kayaks per guest is something that is double checked before taking off. I hope they did the right thing and reimbursed him. I know this was a self-guided adventure but I still think the safety/introduction speech could have been more detailed. Some basic kayaking, paddling tips would have been appreciated. It was basically here's a map, be at Willow Beach by 4 or get charged $150. Also when you arrive at Willow Beach it would have been nice to know exactly where the pick was, like veer toward your right, pick up on the left, etc. We just kind of got there and hoped it was the right section. I would definitely do a trip like this again Our weather for the day was fairly calm. We stopped a few times at the different beaches along the way and the hot springs. Next time I would like to explore more. Timewise, without any unforeseen mishaps, launching at 7 and returning by 4 is plenty of time to enjoy the scenery and explore. I do think they should provide an emergency number in case there is an issue if something unexpected happens, as it did on our trip, because no one answers the office phone. read more

After a great trip down the river and an awesome time with our group of around 50 dads and kids, the company completely failed us on the pick up. We made it to the pick up spot about 15 mins before our scheduled time at 3. Perfectly on time. Turned out they decided to take the 4 pm check in time group who came in early which resulted in our group waiting for 3 hours at the marina! Why provide a pick up time if you can't honor it? If we were late I could totally understand taking the other group first but this was unacceptable! Sure would have loved spending hat 3 hours on the river and not hanging around the marina. Of course by the time they were ready for us, the 5 pm group was there too and it was nothing short of chaos amongst the desert adventure crew. We had to load our stuff back on to make sure it all was included then there was confusion on what group was in which van. Side note....15 of us were loaded in the van and we had to ask to have them turn on the AC! I should probably mention the stress of spouses who were expecting to hear from us by a certain time and did not as there is no service whatsoever at the marina. To add to the stress, we had a dad and daughter leave the day before and Desert Adventures told us they never showed up! We finally got into range to call the dad and he said they were picked up earlier the day before by one of the DA crew and guessed they never told the others. Common sense and a bit of concern for the client would go a long way. This is the second year they screwed something up but this was the final straw. read more

I was lucky enough to take a Kayak 101 and a Kayak Self-Rescue Class along with some of the newly hired, but experienced guides who were reviewing very advanced safety techniques. Absolutely awesome! With great coaching from Sarra I got my basics of self-rescue down, something I could never, ever have been able to figure out by myself just watching videos. I also watched the advanced rescue techniques that these guides use. Whoa! You are in good hands with these people! I am not much of a camper. I prefer a flush toilet and running water. I appreciate a comfortable bed, in a climate controlled environment. But somehow I ended up taking one of the best trips of my life, without any of those amenities (and hope to do it again one day very soon)! Three girl friends and I booked the three-day Big Horn Classic guided tour through Desert Adventures. The entire trip was absolutely amazing and an incredible value for what you receive. Desert Adventure was incredibly organized and took care of absolutely everything, so it was maybe a bit more like "glamping" than full-on camping. But we did have to haul and setup up our own tents, assist with filtering water and hauling in the needed supplies. So it was as rugged and rustic as I ever want to get and all I had to do was show up and everything was taken care of. Our guide (Luke) was incredible! He called ahead of time to talk to me about the food and ensure that I was comfortable with what he would be cooking, as I have celiac disease. Not only was the food he created safe for me to eat, it was prepared in the canyon with fresh ingredients and 10x better than the food I manage to cook myself!! Delicious!! High quality!! We started our journey by dropping our canoes into the water just south of the Hoover dam and ended three days later at Willow Beach, about 12 miles down river. The trip was not just about getting down the river though. We setup camp part way down the river early on day one and then roamed up and down the river in kayaks and/or canoes exploring the various stream beds in the slot canyons. When I signed up for this adventure, I was expecting to spend our days kayaking and canoeing. And yes, we did that. But the trip was way, way, way, more than that. There was also a fair amount of hiking and exploring, There was wonderful time to relax with our feet in the water, soak in the hot tubs or enjoy an evening camp fire. .We stopped at lots of incredible locations. We hiked back into slot canyons, along creek beds to hot spring and/or caves. There were a few places with ropes tied into the rocks to allow us to get up and over more easily and one location even had a metal ladder to allow access up which only added to the fun and excitement. It was just all so cool and unlike anything I had ever seen or done before. Let me add, it was all totally do-able even for a slightly over-weight woman in her 50's. Luke made sure everyone in our group was always safe and comfortable with the activity. I was never pressured to do anything that I was not comfortable doing. So if anyone is looking for a super cool vacation that is extremely reasonably priced, this is definitely the place to be!! read more

Wow! What a great day. We did a day trip of kayaking on the Colorado River with this company and it was absolutely awesome! We kayaked for 12.5 miles but the river was so calm and beautiful We got picked up at our hotel on the strip in Las Vegas. Shuttled to the Hoover Dam to launch our kayaks. We left from a level 1 security area at the dam, which was totally cool. Our tour guide Moham , was absolutely amazing. He took us all over the river , hot springs, caves, and showed us amazing views. He was patient and well informed. The company provided us with a delicious lunch from a local restaurant in Boulder City and plenty of snacks and water. We spent the whole day on the river and ended our trip at Willow Beach. They shuttled us back to our hotel around 4:00. This is a perfect trip for soaking in the sites and relaxing! I would DEFINITELY recommend this company. read more

Ppl at this place don't care about customers' safety. We were renting 2 kayaks. My son and I were first timers. The guy who had us signed the waivers were a bit concerned about the wind that day when I asked him if it was too windy. He went in the office and talked to this woman, who apparently ran the store herself. He came out of her office and said, "If the wind is too strong, just paddle harder!" Seriously? They would not refund the $ for that reason. As we were following him to the park, I was thinking we would not kayak if we felt unsafe. We got to the park entrance, and he was NOT allowed come in. According to the park attendant the wind was too strong for kayaking. Other ppl were leaving the park as well. Then he offered to reschedule or refund. We asked for a refund. read more

We rented a canoe from this company and everyone was very nice when we left. They told us about the winds that were going to be coming on Thursday (we were scheduled to come back Friday morning) and we asked if we had to come back early due to the winds what we needed to do and if us coming back early would be an issue. The two gentleman that helped us off said that if we came back early that we needed to tie up the canoe and everything we rented from them as best as possible, let the people know at Willow Beach that we were leaving it for Desert Adventures and that they would pick it up on the next pick up. They did tell us that if anything happened to it between the time that we dropped it off and that they picked it up we would be responsible for it and we said we understood. We started out Thursday morning and the winds were not that bad but by early afternoon the winds got to where it was unsafe for us to continue. We had to have a boater that was passing by help us to get back. We called Desert Adventures to let them know that we had tied up the canoe. Upon calling we were told that we should have hunkered down as soon as the wind started and were chastised about how it was our decision to take an unguided tour and that they would need to contact the boss. We heard nothing back from Desert Adventures and the all of a sudden there was 104.95 charge taken out of our bank account for a custom shuttle time. No call about taking money from our account. No where in the paperwork we signed was there any mention of a charge for picking up the canoe as we were told it would be picked up on the next scheduled pick up which would have been 10:30 am 4/5/2024. Saturday 4/6/2024 I get a call saying that they will be charging us 12.00 plus tax for a waste bucket that was not with the items we rented. So we get a call about a 12.00 charge but not a 104.95 dollar charge and charging this amount when there is nothing stating this fee in any paperwork that have you sign. Company is very unprofessional and does not communicate between one another. read more

From booking my reservation to driving away after my Black Canyon Kayak adventure, my experience w/Desert Adventures was top notch! I did the Black Canyon Tour on a Monday that departed 6:30pm from the Desert Adventures storefront. From there it was a "hurry up and wait" sitch, but the wait was worth pushing off on the Colorado River from the base of the Hoover Dam! I have been on several "kayaking adventures" of both the river and sea variety, but this was by far one of the more spectacular, even with headwinds and choppy water throughout the day. I have to give super mad crazy awesome props to our guide Reid! He was absolutely spectacularly amazing! There were 5 people in our group (2 couples and myself) and he did a great job attending to all of us. He really made the trip informative and fun and included various "nature funfacts"; he was even a photographer from time to time and gave some great shots from a gorgeous vantage point towards the end of the trip. But, I really have to give him a HUGE thank you as there was a flash thunderstorm during the last mile of the trip and trying to paddle (in futility) against 50mph wind gusts while not capsizing because the waves were hitting the kayak on both sides, he helped tow me in and removed us from a pretty crazy dangerous situation (of course, Murphy's Law, the minute we hit the pull-out it was clear skies and calm waters). That last mile made me glad I paid the extra $$ to have a guide rather than go the 12mile trek solo! The scenery in and of itself is just unparalleled! There is something to be said to push off into the water of the legendary Colorado River with the Hoover Dam and gulch bridge looming above you as you paddle into the bowels of the Black Canyon. There are a few pull-outs and the first stop we made was a quick little hike to some hot springs that was just gorgeous! But, a lot of the journey was just you, the river, and the towering Canyon walls, which for me made me feel mighty and insignificant at the time! Another fav stop was Emerald Cave (which you have to see to believe as it really does live up to its namesake!), but I gotta say that with all the kayaking and rafting trips I have done, the lunch Desert Adventures provided was actually delicious! I had the Caesar Wrap, which was HUGE and they give you two Caesar dressing packets so you decide if you want to douse of dribble. It also included an apple, carrots w/ranch dip, and a choc-chip cookie (pro-tip: while you are chowing down, put that bad boy in the sun so when you are ready for dessert it tastes like soft, gooey, doughy heaven!). This was the first time I have had a lunch provided to me on a trip that I was actually full from! Chilling out at the marina (they have a great little convenience store where we got fruit bars and beers) after the trip and the drive back (we made a little detour stop that was a wonderful surprise) was great! Everyone that works at DA was so friendly and knowledgeable! I cannot recommend this place enough! read more

Such a great float trip! We put in just south of the Hoover Dam and did 12 miles, with several fun stops along the way. I would totally recommend it, though I might suggest a warmer month. We went in December, and we were pretty cold by the end. We did get to see some great features of the area (a hike in geothermal springs up to a geothermal pool, some cool caves, lunch on a lookout with an amazing view, some wildlife, etc.). Speaking of lunch, it was better than most you get on trips like these. Each one was individually packed and pretty good. And our Guide (Luke) was amazing - he even brought hot chocolate for a break. He was engaging and knowledgeable about the area, and he had eagle eyes - which is the only way we spotted most of the wildlife we saw. Luke was also watchful of the group, making sure people were staying safe and having a good time. About half way through the trip, the weather turned unexpectedly. The winds picked up, and I think we all knew we needed to move it and get off the river before dark. As the only female paddler (with a less than awesome back), I was slowing us down, so he offered to tow me. I didn't want to accept that offer, but to his point, better to get out safely with no injuries than be proud about it. So I agreed and helped as we went. That was a good call. We made it safely with no incidents and with time to spare. I've been on several trips where the guide was not as in tune with the change in circumstances, etc. I appreciated Luke's easy way to taking control of the trip without inciting panic or lessening the experience. I can't say enough about how great this tour and the Desert Adventure employees are. It was the highlight of our trip, and we got to see such an amazing side of Nevada...and Arizona! Gerald picked us up from our hotel in Vegas, and we had great conversations on the drive to Boulder City. He and our tour guide, Scott, gave great history lessons about the area. Our tour began at the base of the Hoover Dam, which would have been amazing all by itself, but the day was still young. Scott showed us canyon after canyon of beautiful rock formations and incredible plant life. We stopped kayaking to hike through hot springs and small waterfalls. We also got to kayak into a few small caves. The lunch (included in the cost of the trip) was huge and delicious. We saw so many birds, including a few bald eagles (thanks to our tour guide's binoculars), as well as bighorn sheep and some pretty cool lizards. Although we were exhausted at the end of the day, we did not want to leave. We will absolutely be back to see these guys again--maybe we will try an overnight camp next time! read more

My best friends organized a Vegas bachelor party for me along with another of our friends who is also getting married soon. Instead of just staying on the strip the whole weekend and never seeing any semblance of nature or the wild (other than herds of obese people gorging at the buffet perhaps), they surprised us with a kayaking trip from the base of the dam to the marina. What a great experience! The whole process went exactly as promised with an on-time pickup (at the crack-a$$ of dawn mind you) from our hotel by a friendly and safe driver. Once on the water, we were paired with George who was 100% professional yet funny and laid back and quite knowledgeable. The lunch was good and plenty filling and we even had time to grab a beer at the marina before they got the van loaded for our drive back. I'm an outdoorsman and despite over 20 trips to Vegas over the years, never fathomed it was possible to experience such sublime and tranquil surroundings within such a short drive of the city. I was little apprehensive to rent a kayak from a store, not knowing too much about the process. It was really easy and simple and the staff helped us out a lot. I have my own kayak and trailer and we needed one more for the day. We went here and they rented us a kayak for the day. We loaded it up on my trailer and bam, done. Spent the day at the lake and brought it back to them, no problems. If you don't have a trailer they will take it to the lake for you and pick it from you at designated times. Kayaking is so much fun and easy, you can do it for one or a huge group. So get out of your routine and try something Adventures! read more

This is the second Kayak trip down Black Canyon I have taken with Desert Adventures and it was even better than the first! It was 5-star 15-20 years ago and is the same excellent quality in 2021. Gianni was our guide, he made the trip really fun - he is so knowledgeable about wildlife, conservation and everything about the river. Our group had novice Kayakers as well as expert, he made us all feel like we were excellent (I learned to hold my paddle the right direction and to get in and out without looking like a klutz!) This all-day trip is a treat for the body and senses, not to be missed! We did the 12-mile trip while it was 120+ degrees in the canyon. We thought it would be miserably hot but it was perfect, we took a lot of breaks, had a lot of water and Gatorade, enjoyed floating in 64 degree water (who knew?) and a terrific lunch. Gianni watched over us to make sure we felt great, never over-heated and that we were having fun and not getting worn out. We rented canoes from this company for a camping weekend on the Colorado river. They picked us up from our hotel early Friday morning, dropped us off at the Hoover dam, and were waiting for us at the Willow Beach marina when we were done on Sunday. They even had ice pops ready for us to help us cool down from the heat. The guy who drove our van gave us historical information about the area, answered questions, and was overall a pretty fun dude. The company is reliable, the equipment is in top shape (they are replaced every few seasons), and the maps they provided of the river was super helpful in figuring out which slot canyons to explore. read more

My husband and I did the 1 day Black Canyon kayaking trip. The variety of things that we saw were awesome. This is not just a kayak for several hours down the river thing. It was awesome being below the dam, stopping at the variety of very interesting places along the way and also seeing the big horn sheep (extra awesome bonus!). Gianni and Luke were so fun. Gianni was not only an expert kayaker who helped everyone improve their game, but he was also a natural and cultural interpreter who educated us on the native flora and fauna and human history along the river. Luke was full of awesome real-life stories that entertained all that were near enough to hear him. They both created an atmosphere of good humor, positivity and enjoyment. That being said this is a long trip. We were met with still water - winds in some places that made the kayaking more difficult and heat at the end (thankfully we had cloud cover most of the trip) that made us wish for the end. My husband and I are decently fit with a fair amount of kayaking experience. I think I would encourage anyone who is an inexperienced paddler or not decently fit to choose a shorter trip. One other thing - the food was marvelous. There was plenty of cold water for all and yummy snacks people could dig into at will which included a variety of granola bars and fruit. We will always look back on this trip with pleasure and thankfulness that we did it. read more
