I read about streaming using your library card. A library patron can view most of the DVD material that the library carries. I downloaded the app but when it came time to fill in some information, it would not let me go further. I tried a few times at home with no luck. The message told me to visit the library for help. Once at the library, I got my device ready with the app and sought assistance. Staff were very nice and helpful. Staff checked my card which was current. I showed her what I was doing which was correct. I told her I would try one more time to check in. As luck would have it, this time the app came to life and everything worked. We both laughed and I said I guess she needed to be present before the app worked. I have already used the new app and am very pleased. Now I will attempt to add it to my Firestick. Having the app on my device will be nice for travel times. They have their own parking lot and WiFi in the building. read more

I love our little desert broom library. Although it is not one of the bigger libraries in the phoenix public library system. It's quaint and a perfect size for our local community. The cool design blends perfectly into the desert. And i'm sure we're not the only family who calls it The snake library due to all the rattlesnake beware Signs as you walk up. I stopped by at least monthly to the friends of the library. Little section and pick up a couple of books. We used to love using toddler music times when my kids were little. It's clean, he team is nice and helpful, and there are always culture passes available. It's just a perfect little community spot read more

I hate to rag on a public library, because this used to be a favorite spot for our family as it is so incredibly close to our houses. However, if you've been here, you've definitely dealt with the power hungry librarian. You cannot bring a child here without being yelled at or getting an aggressive comment from her. This even applies to the most well behaved children. The kids section of this library needs a makeover. There aren't many options for children outside of story time and little section of books. The outdoor area was just redone but is extremely dangerous for children or any unsteady adults. The librarian also feels the need to come outside and tell us that every time we have children outside eating a snack. And god forbid she hears the crinkle of a wrapper when you're going to throw away a snack that you ate outside. If you live in the area and especially if you have children, you should go to the Cave Creek Desert Foothills library. The events and staff are phenomenal! read more

The Desert Broom Library is a very modern library in Cove Creek Arizona. It's not a very large library, but it's large enough to enjoy. The best part is the outside garden area. It's fantastic to sit outside and do work or enjoy a good book. I would highly recommend trying them out! read more

I find it absolutely outrageous that people leave reviews to a public library, but after reading some of the low ones, I felt I should review as well. The Phoenix Public Library system, overall, is amazing and this location is one of my favorites. PPL has 16 locations, so there really is quite a large selection of books and you can request books from any of the 16 libraries be brought to your location. The curbside service during COVID is extremely helpful and has kept my reading pile full during this time. I've always found the staff friendly and helpful, and Desert Broom isn't usually too packed. I've seen a few people complain about children being loud or there being too many children, which I don't understand. It's a library. Children go to libraries too and of course they aren't going to be absolutely silent. They have every right to enjoy the library as you do. Not to mention that during the summer, it's incredibly hard for parents to find things to do with their kids (especially with the heat) and going to the library is a great activity. Most people learn their love of libraries at a young age, so I actually find it refreshing when children are there. Let them love libraries and reading too! read more

Love this place. The staff is helpful and kind. It's nice and quiet. Too many libraries these days have become noisy for some reason? This is one is quiet. I take my kids here and teach them that they are to be quiet. It helps them to learn that is the only way to act in a library. Nice big windows with lots of light too! read more

Beautiful facility but don't come here expecting to find a quiet place to read and relax. Each time I did it was noisy, with children running around and fairly loud conversations. There are a few tucked away areas but these usually fill up quickly but the noise level is still not acceptable for a library. It's really more of a daycare center. There is a small area out in front of the library that might serve as a calm place once the weather becomes more tolerable. read more

I just moved to Cave Creek recently and wanted to immediately get set up with a library card. The ladies were extremely helpful and got me set up super fast. They walked me through all the amenities and offers of the library and helped me get my first couple of books checked out. I was also surprised and impressed to find the library offers free admission to various cultural attractions in the Cave Creek and Phoenix areas. I'll definitely be taking advantage of this soon. My initial experience with this library was poor. My family just moved here, we will only be here temporarily and we get all of our utility bills electronically - all of which posed immense barriers to getting a library card. We were, initially, turned away from getting a card and I left with a crying child. I'm checking out a book not priceless diamond jewelry! After scrounging up proof that we would not be leaving hastily in the night with a car full of library books - we obtained an elusive library card. This library does have a nice children's section and it has several copies of popular books. The kids section also has Legos, puzzles and cool activities for the kids to play with. We have also taken advantage of the family story time on Thursdays and Ms. Ellen is a gem! Our two kiddos love attending and look forward to it each week. I cannot speak to any other aspects of the library. Overall, a nice library with good kid amenities. I'm still miffed about our initial experience but I'm a mature adult and am moving on.....sort of. read more

This is probably the nicest library I have been to, other than the huge Central Library in downtown Los Angeles. Definitely smaller, of course, but the ambiance of it is pretty cool. It has a beautiful design inside and out. Very peaceful surroundings outside, and when the weather gets cooler it will be awesome to sit outside. I live 6 miles down from it and just barely "discovered" it. This will be my new study spot =) read more

Checked this out last week for the Friday Walkers class. I was very impressed. The woman who instructed the class was very calm, sweet, and patient. My little guy was not super impressed, due to it being around nap time. However, when she brought out the bubbles,he was all in. The Library itself has a nice layout and is very neat. The location is cool, because it seems like it's a secret library hidden in the desert. The children's area (thought small) is functional and clean as well. read more

Friday I had a great experience when I discovered this library. It was clean, well lit, everyone was friendly and helpful, and the children unbelievably well behaved. I actually attended an adult tempera painting class on the neat little patio outside. A bit brisk but worth it. I did have a hard time finding it but then I have a hard time finding most places even with a GPS. The class was fun and everyone enjoyable. Try it you'll like it. read more

I love coming to this library even though it takes a little more than half an hour to drive. It's set right on the corner surrounded by an array of fast food chains, supermarkets, and gas stations. I've checked out many books and movies over the months and have started to go through the cd's which surprisingly are up to date and unedited when you see the parental advisory. Funny enough I rented Scarface here. They have a kids section, several computer stations, and when you go to check out they have three electronic sensors that put the item on your account without scanning the bar-code, you just set the book or dvd on this black pad and it knows what you put there. You can put more than one item down at a time too and it will read all of them, pretty neat. Then you press a button and it prints you a receipt with the due dates. read more

Nice facilities, nice AC, but two FATAL flaws: 1. Children running around yelling and screaming at all times. This is a failure of the parents and, more importantly, of the staff who apparently REFUSE to enforce any kind of policies against noise whatsover. To parents and staff: THIS IS A LIBRARY *NOT* A DAYCARE!!!!! 2. The "collection" here is 90% DVDs and "Dummies" books with trashy novels thrown in for good measure. read more

A total oasis from the summer heat. This friendly and well stocked neighborhood library is never crowded, so you can alway grab a free PC or a free table if you're lugging your own laptop. The selection of books and dvds are really good too. read more

I love the Phoenix library system anyway but this library is the top of the heap! It is great. First the architecture is great. Very unique especially for a library. They have a good amount of books, audiobooks and DVD's. The kids section is vast. My oldest son absolutely loves it. He could sit and read books in there for hours. This really is a nice library. It is noisy, and I never minded that until... I was talking to my daughter about a book when one of the librarians asked me to keep it down. I was kind of in shock because I was keeping my voice much lower than the screaming kids in the rest of the kids area. This library is a great neighborhood resource. I've been taking my two elementary school age sons there for three years now and have never once found it noisy, but I should add that I like kids and am not over sensitive to the sounds they make. This library has a huge assortment of kids books and for adults too. If you need something they don't have they're happy to order it for you. I've tried using their ebook service and was very satisfied with that also. I'm glad to see our tax dollars at work in such a useful and constructive manner! read more

This has to be one of the noisiest, unaware places to go to in the city....The staff is completely comfortable with children screaming, running all over the big continuous room. This library is for all practical purposes just a children's day care center.....Adults have no quiet area as the mothers of these unsupervised little ones have hugely run out the idea of a place for any remnants of quiet thought . It is not in my nature to be negative but facts are facts. This place has a few employees that could use some customer service training. Upon initially arriving at the library, we asked if there was a quiet space to sit. We were asked if we had reserved a conference room to which we advised that we had not. A very nice lady led us to an area of the library and said that it was their quiet hour and that we could utilize a table in their teen section. She even showed us how we could turn on the lamp. Shortly after, a security guard came up and was very rude asking if we had a teen. When we said no, he told us that we had to leave. After I explained that another employee had told us we could sit there, he said don't do it again, as though I was a child. Within 10 minutes, another lady came and told us the exact same thing that we were not supposed to be sitting there. We again conveyed that we were told that we could sit at that space. She indicated that she had to turn away a teen because we were sitting there. This was a blatant lie as there was another table directly next to us and no one ever came even near us other than the rude security guard and rude librarian. The library was practically empty and there was no "teens" in sight. If in fact she turned someone away and we truly were t supposed to be there, she could have easily asked us to move. The fact is she lied. Kindness and truthfulness goes a long way, especially when our tax dollars pays your salary. read more

Initially, this library would have gotten one star because it took four visits to get in! Besides the reduced hours which caused me to show up when it was closed (one Monday and then one day before opening as it opens kinda late several days), I managed to find two days when it was closed for staff training and some such on a Friday! All within a four-week period. Argh. But, once inside, I found a lovely sanctuary and very helpful people. During the closures I went to several other libraries and this one is by far my favorite. read more

I love this library. Visually stunning, interesting and different in its layout. The staff is friendly and accommodating, however, it is often too loud for me to sit and read so I just take my books to go. Let me explain. In the summer when the kids are off school there are certain times when they have events for children and it gets VERY LOUD but I don't mind this as I know when its going to happen and I believe the library is for all in the community to enjoy not just us bookworms. Heck, I've got three small children of my own, however, its during regular library hours when there is no special event happening that the noise gets me. I mean call me old fashioned but what the heck happened to the shushing librarian. Gone the way of the dodo bird as there are guys running their businesses at some of the tables. Taking an emergency phone call and/or stepping outside is one thing but these idiots seem to have no social understanding of what it means to be polite. Take your non-stop phone calls to Starbucks. To me libraries were always a sanctuary where I could find solitude to read, reflect, and think - not anymore. Times are a changin' - not sure this change is one I can deal with. read more

I have used several of the Phoenix libraries including Ironwood and Mesquite, as well as libraries in other cities when I lived in those cities, and enjoyed them all immensely, but the staff at Desert Broom seem to be the rudest anywhere. I live nearby and would like to make this my home library, but I dread having to deal with the staff there, and I use the self-checkout as much as possible. I strongly recommend they receive customer service training, which as a former City employee I know is available and usually mandatory. The public should not be made to feel like they are wasting staff's time to ask a question, renew a library card, or check out a book when the self-checkout fails, especially when they look like they are sitting there doing nothing anyway. As well, tax-paying citizens should not be made to feel like they are the scum of the Earth for using publicly funded services like a library. read more
