After such a great experience working here last year, I decided to come back for another visit this year when back in Arizona. It is the perfect place to get a little work done and they best part, it's free! It's bright, clean, and despite being relatively small it didn't feel crowded at all. The wifi connection is great! There seems to be a big patio option but on this visit it was a little too cold to work outside. My husband brought our son here too. He had a great time flipping through books and "working" on the kids computers. We'll definitely be back when we are back in Arizona! read more

The library was closed when I arrived. However, I did not need to go inside. I was using the book drop drive-through. This is very convenient, especially since they were still closed. Just go through the drive-through, put your items in the slot and continue on your way. Parking is available on site as well as Wi-Fi in the building when they are open. read more

Beautiful library. It is on the smaller side but it's definitely an asset to the community. But WOW, are the adults here LOUD. Maybe it is because it's next to a retirement community? Trying to play devil's advocate here but my goodness I cannot focus. One occasion there were two ladies playing some sort of card game? Just being loud and disruptive. This week, a group of women talking at full volume. I got up from my work to take a lap and a few of the ladies that were being loud worked here, no point in bringing up my complaints if the librarians themselves are being loud. Do librarians no longer respectfully tell guests to quiet down?? I may as well go to a coffee shop to study. People my age tend to be more respectful of noise levels than these folks. Kids I can tone out, they are kids and they are learning how to navigate the world. Adults should know better...it is a library...shush. read more

This library is quite small but gets the job done. It's typically very quiet which is ideal for a library. I'd recommend Appaloosa for anyone wanting a smaller, tight-knit library without all of the hustle and bustle of a typical big city library. read more

Best library in town that I've found. QUIET, clean, well organized, and LOTS of separated places to sit, read, study, and work. They have snack & drink vending machines and a whole outdoor patio (not covered) with a surprising amount of tables and chairs. It also wasn't freezing in there. read more

This is one of the best libraries I have had the pleasure of visiting. And how lucky am I that we are now living close to this treasure! Excited to continue taking the kids here as they have a lovely kids reading area and outside seating for the cooler months in AZ. I also spotted a cafe but it is currently closed (first world covid problems). Currently the library is operating through a drive up window or you could register your library card to receive access to the building during business hours. This place is So Awesome. The outside is worth a walk or ride around the building to see the siding change colors subtly. There is sculpture in the parking lot too ( see photo) inside it's also quite nice. So much to borrow, peruse, study and enjoy. A cool exhibit and room to purchase various items for a wonderfully cheap price, such as musical tapes or book on tapes for trips, plus a variety of books for all ages and on an abundance of topics. read more

I like the wide aisles, easy to find genres, and bright light in this library. My kiddo always likes playing in the kids area, and there are great study rooms and several comfy chairs. This library is also always very clean and well maintained. read more

I had just moved to the Greyhawk area and am an avid reader so getting a library card was extremely exciting to me. The librarian made it extremely easy, explained everything to me, and they have no late fees! You can take out up to 30 items at a time. It's a beautiful library. read more

Was very excited when they first built this library close to where I live, so convenient for me! I have never had a particularly bad library experience anywhere, so I'm easy to please, but Appaloosa Library is very nice. The building has a very cool look to it, the interior is open and spacious. As other reviews have stated, it is also clean and well-kept. One thing I like is that it is never overwhelmingly busy here. Always nice and quiet with plenty of open computers. Also the books/CDs/etc. I have checked out in the past have all been in good condition. Only had issues with a few of the CDs not playing for me. The staff is incredibly nice and helpful, always friendly without being overbearing or irritating. I also like that if Appaloosa does not have what I want, then I can request the item to be sent to Appaloosa from a different Scottsdale Public Library. I do wish it were larger to fit more of a selection, but this place is great for a small library. The events they have are great as well, I attended a session here on healthy eating that was informative. I also got to see children reading to the Golden Retriever dog that they bring in from time to time, adorable! read more

The library is attempting to keep up with the times by having on-line check out of their books. These eliminates the need to physically go to the actual library. The only down side is you only get the on line version of the book for 14 days. So if your job and other elements prevents you from finishing the book during that time, the book "lease" expires and you have to go to the back of the line to borrow the book again! I wish they allowed 21 days. Also, if you do go to the actual building, the Internet service is slow. read more

Great library for all ages. Almost every Saturday they have story time and other events offered (see their website) for kids 5 years old and younger. If you have younger children be sure to check out a cultural pass which can be found along the left wall when entering, this gives you free admission to various places (science museum, children's museum, Japanese garden, etc.). The staff at this location are also very helpful, and the premises are kept clean and well maintained. read more

First impression: So this is where my tax dollars went (besides the unnecessary repaving of numerous roads). Um this place is nicer than my corporate office. (Briefly entertained the thought of taking some pictures & anonymously sending them to my CEO) With all of the bells and whistles it's got a modern design and the latest technology. It's got at least 2 dozen +/-24" HP TouchSmart Screens and all of the top accompaniments. There's even spa-like music playing in the background. What is this place really? Way up in N. Scottsdale I was up here in the area and thought I'd quickly stop by to check out the place. Read about the recent opening and must applaud the efforts on making it a green friendly facility. Considering the budget woes and pathetic quality of public education thought it was ironic that Scottsdale opened another library. Scottsdale is applying to have the Appaloosa Library certified at the gold level in the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program. The 21,000-square-foot space is very contemporary; features natural lighting and a 600-square-foot array of photovoltaic panels that provide 2.5 percent of the building's peak energy demand. A monitor allows visitors to see how much energy from the sun is being generated for the library Also, the library has a floating floor in the main room that makes it easier to reroute cabling to readapt the space and move bookshelves around. Even the shelves feature energy-efficient LED lighting. With the exception of the children's area a lot of the shelves look kinda empty (guessing not from checked out books). i finally took my little 4 yr old girl to this gem of a public library. She was so excited she screamed. Fortunately there was a courtyard and she enjoyed the kid's area as well as the art installation in the entrance and the main building. There was staff to assist in her to play legos. Happy day! This is a tiny little library that looks gorgeous and is incredibly well kept. Maybe it's because it's newer and it never appears to be busy whenever I go, but it's lovely. I really enjoy the modern design and how user friendly it is. I mostly come here for the children's area. It's super cute! My son loves the tiny little shelves that he can toddle up to and grab whatever book catches his eye, then flip it open right on the little table space and look at all the pictures. There's also a Lego table with a ton of Legos, a desk with a roll of white butcher paper and fat crayons, some soft, connectable floor mats and tubes for crawlers, and moveable pieces built into the shelves for tiny, curious hands to play with. With all that fun stuff, Harvey's favorite thing to do is pound on the hollow pole behind one of the shelves and giggle. Ah to be a toddler. If this location doesn't the have the item you're looking for in their limited space, they can have it shipped over from another Scottsdale library and hold it for you. I've done this quite a bit through the website, but I bet you could call or walk in and request it too. It takes a day or two, but it can be worth it to save yourself a trip out of your way. They have a ton of current and classic movies and books on tape. My husband got lost trying to decide which movie to borrow, saving ourselves the trip to Redbox after the library. If you want to have some silent time, the comfy looking chairs by the windows get amazing light for magazine or book reading. I hear they have great storytime classes, but you have to get there early to secure a spot, especially on the weekends. I've never been, but the Family Storytimes and Shake Rattle and Roll classes sound like lots of fun, especially since they're totally free. They also have classes based towards building early literacy on weekday mornings and a lot of other really neat classes. Check out their event list on their website and have some fun! read more

Well I never thought I would ever need a library but i really needed somewhere to just sit down and study and well I was impressed. The Scottsdale library is really nice clean new building. The overall book selection was not great, though i wasnt looking for books I saw that there was a limited selection. The technology was great with all the computers and great selection that they have. The childrenes area looked awesome! I wish i has something like that as a kid. It was really clean and well kept with a large amount of kids books. Upon arrival I was greeted by one of the staff and he was great. He asked if i needed anything and gave me a tour of the place and showed me how everything worked. He even got me to a private study room so I could spread out all my work and have quiet time to just study. Though there is a limited number of private rooms they were great. With custom temperature control and the walls were good but not great at blocking out sound. Plus there was free WIFI that made life easier when pulling materials from my computer. Overall the library was great, i will be going back when i need a great place to sit down and study though i wish there was a little more space. read more

Their kids classes are super cute, I just wish they were longer than 30 min. They don't have the largest selection of kids popular books that you'd find at Barnes and Noble but we still manage to find interesting ones and dvds. Absolutely beautiful! California could learn a lesson on how a public library should look and feel from Scottsdale/Arizona. It's clean and bright; it was built to very green standards; there's a great kids area; the technology is up-to-date, especially making it easy to check in and check out your books or movies or whatever (the touch screens are cool). While our aunt was checking out the movie we were going to watch that night (Eastern Promises, very good), we were talking to the young library assistant there, who filled us in on everything about this great library. It's amazing, really. I wish I'd taken pictures of the inside of this wonderful place! If we decide to retire to this area (which is looking more and more likely!), I can see myself actually going to the library more and more. Definitely puts CA to shame. read more

Great place to enjoy some quiet time and read a book, magazine or newspaper.or use a computer. The building is beautiful, the interior is very well designed and the volunteers there are very helpful. It does not seem like a very large library at first but there are tons of volumes to choose from and I love the fact that it is right across the street from where I live. read more

If you're looking for a quiet place to study this isn't the place. Long gone are the traditional "quiet" library rules that I grew up with. This library has a quiet room, with glass walls which does little to muffle the sound. The library is free range for children to run and scream through the aisles. The librarians do nothing to maintain even some level of quiet. The library sounds more like a park or jungle gym than a library. read more

I love this library nestled up in North Scottsdale. The architecture is beautiful and the exterior surroundings are nice as well. There is plenty of seating inside and seating outside as well. The exterior seating is under a covered area to shield you from the sun. I really like the tables inside the facility that are right next to the tall glass windows because you get that natural lighting and get a chance to peak outside as a break from whatever you at the library for. This library, as probably most if not all, features free wireless internet. There are also many HP Touchscreen computer terminals available. The monitors are really large. I'm not sure how big exactly, but it's probably more than 20 inches. There is also a circular, central seating area as you walk through the main entrance. The seats are in a circular pattern with little tables on the side that you can swing around that are big enough to sit a laptop on. There are also other features to this library, but what I mentioned earlier are what I'm more familiar with. I visit this library every now and then on the weekends. It's never incredibly busy, but I'm not sure what it's like during the rest of the week. The hours are kind of limited on the weekend because their closed on Sundays. read more

I recently moved to north scottsdale area and am currently studying for a certification utilizing public libraries since I am no longer in college. This was my first time at a Scottsdale public library and I am very disappointed. First of all this library is so small there are only about 10 tables to work at. All of the tables have wood chairs which does not accommodate people who need to be there for an extended period of time. It seems as though when they made this library, they tried so hard to design it and make it light and open with tall ceilings but the echo and noise is horrible. The librarians and visitors pay no respect to the fact that it is supposed to be quite!! I had headphones in the whole time and could hear the conversations the librarians were having with full volume voices. Multiple visitors were having phone conversations. There were kids running around and jumping on and off chairs repeatedly and kids pounding their hands on the keyboards of the computers. It was absolutely ridiculous. It is a library for pete's sake. If you need to focus, I would not recommend going here. I will never be returning to this one and will be trying a different one today. read more

This library is beautiful however, it is "not really" a library atmosphere!!! Study rooms are commandeered by people who "think" that have an ownership interest in the room, when in fact they are actually using it as their personal office. Leaving little to no room for people/students who need to study for important exams. Also, the area for children, is a "joke"! It is really a playground for parents to bring their children to run, scream and tear the place apart since it is an air conditioned environment and requires little to "no" supervision. Many people are upset and have voiced concerns/complaints, which nonetheless go unanswered. Changes need to be enforced or people will go "outside" the staff to the proper public officials to voice their complaints. read more

I love Appaloosa library. The location is great for me--close to home and close to other shopping, restaurants, retail. The building is gorgeous, inside and outside. Their childrens area is huge and clean and equipped with loads of educational toys/tables. They have great kids programs, activities and reading times. My son just participated in their summer reading program. Their staff and their volunteers are incredibly helpful. There is nothing that I don't love about this library. I love books and libraries and am trying to also nurture that with my son. Appaloosa makes it so easy because he loves going there and so do I. read more

I love this library! It's very clean and has a crisp, new feeling every time I visit. There is a great children's area with stimulating play tables. There are a few "quiet rooms" for people to retreat in if need be. Also, there's is a snack area that's conviently stocked with vending machines and magazines. Gorgeous library - it's worth a trip here to check out the building, especially at sunset. The building (and many of the books in it) look brand new. They have a special area in the front that displays many new books. Internet access is available there too. It's easy to request books online and pick them up on the holds shelf. Many new releases have just a short wait. My only complaint is the short time checkout period for high-demand items (no renewals allowed). I consider myself someone that can read books very fast, but I often have to return books before I am able to finish them. Sometimes when I know there is a very long novel - I will request the sound recording and the novel. That way I am usually able to read part of the book and listen to part of it on cd, and the two lending periods allow me to finish the book. read more

I love this library! They have everything you could need. Place for kids, teenage "safe" area. Reading spaces, computers, a separate room for magazines and newspapers. The staff is always so nice and very helpful. If there is t a book you want, you can order it and it will be there shortly. There is also the ability to read your books on your kindle. What is even more amazing is the outside of the library changes color! read more

If I could give less than one star I would. Most unfriendly library I have ever experienced!! My teen daughter was trying to complete her homework before her Dr Appt so we stopped there for her to study. We went back to the teen area "she is a teen" there was no one else back there and so she asked if I could stay back there with her. We are sitting quietly in checking email she is doing physics homework, there was a gentleman that kept walking back and forth so I was glad I had not left her by herself. Then a library employee comes back and tells us only teens are allowed in this area. I point to my daughter and she said she is welcome to stay. I said she is not completely comfortable being back here alone and there are not other duly sized tables available. She shrugged and pointed to the short kiddy tables at the back of the library. NEVER have I experienced something so ridiculous and rude we have never felt so unwelcome anywhere I would NEVER set foot in there again!!! read more
