Things have slowed down at the Desert Foothills Library. The snowbirds are starting to leave for cooler destinations. The library still has its regular programming for the year round residents. There are two study rooms one can use for free for a two hour period. We recently had May the Fourth be with You (5/4) with Star Wars characters. That was a big hit. Come visit our cool surroundings. The setting is amazingly beautiful with buttes & a Desert garden out back. Inside are many local volunteers ready to assist. There is a room devoted to local history and authors. I found the large section of dvds, cds, puzzles and books for sale & sometimes never before used. There are free lectures, movies etc to partake in and I enjoy the films with a talk back on Fridays. read more

This is a great library, and the location is amazing. The views from the parking lot are and the front of the library is beautiful. I'm sure the back is, too. The staff have always been so friendly and helpful. They have a great selection and variety within the library, and the kids section is good, too. My favorite stop for afternoon reading. Beautiful courtyard to sit outside and there's a mini trail to follow that's quite informative. People behind the desk are pretty noisy...thought libraries were supposed to be quiet. But the book selection is amazing and their second hand book boutique is extensive. read more

This is a special little library just up the hill from the intersection of Cave Creek & Schoolhouse Rd. (after passing through the "Frontier Town" of Cave Creek.) It's special because of its setting (up on a bluff) and its grounds/surrounding views of the Tonto National Forest. And it's also unique because library cards are open to individuals residing in any city. It is a library that's a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization, supported solely by donations. The staff is mostly if not all volunteer and they're the best! There's a tranquil patio with desert decor and a rock wall waterfall where you can absorb some Vitamin D while you absorb the written word. Sometimes, you even catch some rainbow rays. Here's an excerpt from the webpage regarding a surrounding parcel which is a very nice easy hike in you're in the mood for a book and an adventure: "When you visit the library to purchase your copy of The Library Book, Check It Out, leave some time to take a short walk up Saguaro Ridge behind and just to the east of the library building (access path is from lower parking lot). The formal name of Saguaro Ridge is The Caroline Bartol Preserve on Saguaro Hill. Enjoy coming to this library. It's a private library working with funds donated and numerous volunteers. Since my daughter lives in the area we were able to get a few cultural passes allowing you to go free to many different places. They occasionally offer classes on the weekends for people to attend at no cost. They have a book store that have items for sale at very reasonable prices. Even credit cards are accepted. If your perception of a Library is a venue that features a wide selection of books, reference material, newspapers and periodicals that are well organized and current, then this Library will sorely disappoint. The main point here seems to be a community center, catering to screaming children, and a teen room that can only function for lounging, or hookups, not intellectual pursuit. The featured programs are not meant to assuage your curiosity about the world, but Meh Jong, yoga, etc., and somewhat inappropriately church services. Of course, this may be a slight improvement, a couple of years ago they had a pawn shop buying gold. If you are interested in those contributing to this Library, there are two expensive, one backlit, displays showing those local ego driven legends, at least in their own minds. The Second Hand Bookshop, within, is a focus, clearly, since it is almost as big as the rest of this Library. Bottom line, stop here to better appreciate what you recall when you remember your Library at home. If you are local, and receive constant calls to contribute, give to an Animal Rescue, that is a better cause, and much better return on investment. read more

I love this library. I take my 4 and 2 year old boy and they have just the right amount of toys, in addition to 2 computers they can play on. There are tons of books for the children's area as well! The staff is amazing, especially Bev. It's a small library, but it's perfect for Cave Creek. I appreciate all their hard work! They have a used bookstore in the library where you can donate or even buy books - great concept. read more

The best thing about this place is being able to get a passport on a Saturday afternoon! When I arrived for my 10 am appointment, I was told by a real snippy lady that it was going to be a while since she was backed up. OK, I've got nothing but time to wait.... When I finally got called back she took my photo, a horrible photo. She was standing above me so I'm looking up. You can see the white in the bottom of my eyes and I'm all "cheek". A normal person would have taken the photo head on. When I asked about why it's such an awkward angle, she huffed and said she could retake it if I absolutely need to. No worries lady, I'll just spend the next decade with a horrible passport photo. She was quick but good golly she needed a snickers bar to improve her mood. The website says it's $10 for a photo, it's actually $12. Don't bother telling her that though... 5 stars for getting my passport on a Saturday 2 stars for your crappy attitude. read more

This library is just a gem! Gorgeous setting and beautiful facility. There's a fabulous book resale shop that's worth the trip. There are always activities for old and young alike. ok, Im biased, ive been a volunteer here for 10+ years. I LOVE this library. For a non profit organization, we have a better selection of books, audios, DVD's, than most public libraries. Ive had so many out of town visitors stop and visit our used book store, which is a hidden gem here in town. A fantastic cactus rock garden and waterfall with outdoor tables and chairs on the patio is a wonderful place to take a book and relax. Views of the mountains to the North are the best in town. A wonderful place for locals and visitors alike. read more

#MoneyHungryVultures !! Received a text from the Library stating the items I had checked out were soon TO-BE overdue... Took them down to Foothills library that day and my account was 60+$ in the negative!!!!!!! I can not check out anything now. "they don't have the authority to take off fines" but they can add ANY Fines to your account at will.So if you have 8 dvds over due for 5 days that's 1$ per dvd per day comes out to 60$+ ?? for dusty library movies I did not watch . FOOTHILLS LIBRARY IS A SCAM . And they obviously are attempting to discourage people(especially of color) from reading with those ridiculous late fines #TheGlendaleLibrarySystemisaSCAM # read more

What a wonderful library & staff. Very helpful with any idea or questions. This library is fully functional even though it is not state or federally funded. All by donations. It was delightful to not just see the library but the amazing views walking around the building! Botanical garden, places to sit outside for picnic or just to breathe. Spectacular! read more

I can only speak to the children's section of the library since that is where we spent our time, but it was wonderful! Great selection of books as well as a large area of sensory learning toys for kids ranging from infant through elementary school. My baby daughter loved reading, and playing with other kids in the area. Definitely a great way to spend time in Cave Creek--we came on a rainy day and even then the views were wonderful! read more

This library runs a used bookstore in the back named Chapter 2 Bookstore. The same bookstore sells books online at Amazon. The website says that they will sell a book that is available on Amazon over the counter. I drove up to the store to purchase a couple of books that they had available at the Amazon site. I was told by the lady there that they did not sell the books over the counter. The manager who apparently runs the store was on vacation and he was the only person who could make the decision to sell books from the back room. This excuse is not acceptable. If you are going to advertise that you will sell books over the counter that are on Amazon and then decline to sell the book because no one in the store is capable of making a decision then don't advertise. The owner or person in charge should make sure that his employees know how to run the store when he is not there. I would avoid this bookstore. The books that I saw on the shelves are overpriced and the drive to get there is not worth the incompetency of the owner. read more

Very special library, and a true gem in Cave Creek. Great views, and my favorite bluff in town to watch the monsoons roll in. There's a great outdoor patio by the waterfall to read or lots of comfy seating inside. I believe all of the staff are volunteers, and just add to the experience. Friendly, helpful and informative. The library also holds local events and classes that I've really enjoyed. In addition there are stairs up the hillside next to the library that make a nice little hike along the bluff, with even better views of Cave Creek, and Spur Cross. Great little library. Great programs each month that vary widely in terms of subject. Fabulous kids play area with lots of toys... Nice atmosphere with beautiful outdoor area. Grab a book, take your kids , enjoy a Tai Chi class or listen to a local author. Totally non profit library not supported by government funding - amazing what the library does with volunteer resources. Kudos! read more
