I was in the consulting appointments on two different occasions when my husband made it clear that he wanted only the procedures that Medicare would cover, even declining upgraded lenses. The doctor assured him the procedures were covered. Imagine our shock when we went in for the 6-month follow up and were handed a bill for $6,000. The office staff handed us a bill, aged over 90 days, stating that we need to contact both of his insurances and convince them that they need to pay the bill- or we would be held financially responsible. (please see attached picture) Unfortunately, we did not read her YELP reviews. She has done this to other patients. (please see attached pictures) THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS FOR UNNECESSARY CHARGES. Not only did Dr. Le-Nguyen charge my husband for a surgery that was not covered, it begs the question," Was it medically necessary, if Medicare didn't approve it?". Had cataract surgery. They wanted $2500.00 extra for each eye to improve my eyesight. I felt they were gouging me for money. I paid $2500.00 extra for one eye. I had problems with one eye and they kept making excuses. On one occasion doctor claimed I had sand on one eye but not other (I had not been out during this time). For many years, my whole family was going to the La Quinta office. The service was really great and they were honest with the price. After Covid, Dr. Kim became the doctor in charge at La Quinta office and most of the staff moved to Palm Desert office. Dr. Kim was a very nice person but a terrible doctor. The prescription she did was wrong and we had to paid extra to redo the glasses which they denied any wrong doing even charge us for additional visits! We went back to the Palm Desert office hoping to get better service. We were wrong! The office staff were rude and unprofessional. The office is crowded with extra furnitures. They have many staff but nobody knows what to do. They try to sell you extra service the moment you walk in the door ... before you see the doctor!! The whole visit made me felt uncomfortable and very disappointed. The sad part, they don't even care even we know most of the staff and doctors there. Both the Palm Desert and La Quinta locations are awesome. Brenda helped me find glasses that fit perfectly and adjusted my current glasses for me so they sit just right. Becky is a joy! She's always nice to see and helpful. This location has more of a selection than the La Quinta one, so stop here if you're having trouble finding a pair of glasses that you like. You'll get the same great service at both locations. This was my first time seeing Dr Kim. Dr Kim made me feel very comfortable and explained how my vision is changing over time. Want to share my experience today. Got there at my appointment time. Had question about previous visit billing as it was confusing to me about how I was charged. We had a conversation and moved on. Next why am here I was there for an eye exam for glasses. The receptionist goes on to tell me that am not here for an eye exam but follow up. I asked why am I here for follow up when the doctor sent to my ophthalmologist for a thorough examination do to my condition. If you know an ophthalmologist is higher than an optometrist so why do I need to be seen again. I had spoken with her about getting my eye exam. I asked her to go speak with the doctor to clarify and she says no. No? I then replied am not going to pay for a follow up I don't need and then make another appointment to come back and get an eye exam for new lenses. Make absolutely no sense. You sound like you just want to keep charging me for visits. I then told them to cancel the appointment as I don't need a follow up and need my lenses. She then charges me $50.00 bucks for cancellation. I then ask to see the doctor and says no and I need to talk to the office manager that has no clue what's going on. It would have taken her 1 minute to go talk with the doctor and find out from her if there was miscommunication etc but she had no desire to de escalate the situation. I then said you know last time I was here you guys held me in that room close to an hour before the doctor came and saw me and her response was "That's how doctors appoints are" wtf??????? So you take time, for your appointment to get there on time and then there response is okay now you need to wait another hour here, so what should be 30-45 minute visit turns into an hour to hour and half visit? We'll guess am not going back there again. read more

With the slacking covid awareness in most businesses, this place is still at 100 % preventive mood. The clinic and store looks superclean. and very busy, yet waiting time was minimal. Don't care if they forgot to adjust the clock in the exam room to daylight savings. The online registration and info gathering was usefull in shorting our waiting time. The quality of care was superb, they were concerned with the lackadaisical response by the previous clinic in Yucca Valley after my diagnosis of high pressure in the eyes, indicating glaucoma. The explaination of my eye problems and what treatment to expect was professional. The prescribed initial eye drop treatment is already showing its result after just 2 applications. I was having issues with my eyes so I've been to this facility probably 6 times. This is a mix review because I think the Optometrist is good, listens to what I have to say, and gives suggestions and options. She never remembers who I am, but not a big deal. Not super personable, but that's not all that important to me either. Just give me good service and make it easy to make an appointment and I'll keep coming. I would've stayed with this place for my eye exams, but the problem was the receptionist. I typically make my next appointment when I leave. I got a call about a month before my next appointment saying I needed to reschedule due to the Optometrist needing to be off that day. No biggie, okay, so I reschedule. About a week before my rescheduled appointment I get call once again asking to reschedule. I said, " Again? I already rescheduled." The receptionist says, " No you didn't." I tried to explain that I already rescheduled before, and she became really rude and said, "we never rescheduled you, this is the first time. " I say, " I'm not making this up, you called a few weeks ago to reschedule". She sounded clearly irritated, and said, " Well you should know that we don't take your eye insurance anymore so you'll need to pay full price for your exam.". She couldn't say what insurance I had, just that they don't take it anymore.I told her to forget rescheduling, and to cancel any appointment that I may or may not have. Now I keep getting text messages to reschedule. So I go online to look for another optometrist that accepts my VSP insurance, and sure enough, I see Desert Eye Associates is taking VSP insurance. I'd go back if they had a better desk person. read more

I am an eye doctor who practices outside the area and I previously lived and worked in the Palm Springs and Yucca Valley territory. My parents flew into Palm Springs yesterday. My mom, who has had several corneal transplants, laser procedures, and many eye complications, was having a problem with her left eye on the plane ride. I asked Dr. Huang if I could use his exam room to evaluate and treat my mother. He was overly gracious and welcoming. Upon arrival, the staff was very professional and kind. The optical as well as the exam room were meticulously clean. I was impressed. If I had not been able to see my mom and correct the issue, she may have lost her cornea. Dr. Le-Nguyen is an amazing physician! She has great bedside manner, and you can tell she really cares about her patients. Her training is also stellar--was super impressed! The forms to complete prior to the visit are extremely in-depth and long. The process for getting an appointment is crisp to the point of not being welcoming. However, the MD was pleasant and seemed competent. I checked their on-line patient portal as instructed by a follow up email. Two points: 1) it is not secure 2) the diagnoses listed were not discussed with me during the appointment. I was referred to the OD for a refraction exam. The whole process is very compartmentalized so I had to get another appointment to return for refraction. I have my own frames and had to sign a waiver they would not be responsible for any damage to my frames. (!?) The measurements for the lenses was done by an administrative person. I had to schedule an appointment to get my glasses. The frames were misaligned - noticeably - and the administrative person was reluctant to adjust them. She did one adjustment and sent me on my way. They are misaligned and the Rx does not seem correct. I had to make another appointment to have the glasses checked. This will be the 4th trip. Normally, when a pair of glasses needs adjustment or Rx check, there is a quick , "come in and we will check them" rather than the questions I was required to answer and then get an appointment a week later. Seems to be a lot of procedures in place and so far not good results. Will update if the follow-up eye glass check results are positive. read more

I have long sufferred from Gaucoma and had been treated by "the best" glaucaoma specialists in Beverly Hills Ca and at JUles sTein at UCLA until the pandemic struck making the trip from the desert to Los Angeles prohibitve, And, of course I had an emergency with my eyes . An eye doctor friend recommended Dr Xuan Le-Nguyen at Desert Eyes as the glaucoma speialist I should see here in the desert. Well, he was right! She is wonderful: knowledgeable, caring and super careful. Her office is about the only place other than my house i feel safe from getting Covid! She and her staff take extraordinary precautions and make you feel comfortable during your visits. Her staff is wondrful and caring and attentive.I needed to have eye surgery and we waited: until I was vaccinated and until the doctor was vaccinated. I just had my eye surgery and one of the best decisions I have made was to choose Dr. Le-Nguyen as my doctor, I would highly recommend Her and her staff at Desert Eyes and will follow any recommendations she makes to me. I wouldnt' use anyone else other than her as my eye doctor. We are so lucky to have her here in the desert. read more

After my toddler stabbed me in the eye with the handle of a lint remover, we decided I should see a doctor to make sure it wasn't serious. The front desk manager Justin was very professional and helpful. He fit me in same day at the time I needed, and was extremely understanding when I had to be late because the same toddler was taking an extra nap.
