First I would like to say his staff is not good at answering faxes at all or returning calls to my other Dr to get a clearance on seeing if I could take a certain medication due to my Glaucoma, ( after 2 months of trying, they still never responded) they are very incompetent when it comes to that. I believe if your going to work with the public including doctors than you should be friendly, caring and treat people nice, after going to Dr Shaafs eye center for a while now, I have only found 1 girl who fits that bill and it was this past week on June 18th her name is Natchally, what a sweetheart she was so charming and caring, and showed concerned about my eyes she explained the 2 test she was going to give me, She was very through and put me at ease. There should be more ladies like her working out there, like they really take pride in their work and not so unhappy with their job by just showing up for a paycheck. Dr Shaaf is a good eye Dr. Thats why I go there. But the majority of his staff lack friendliness and care about his patients. I'm giving 5 stars because of Natchally. read more

Very disappointing experience with scheduling and communication. I arrived early for a 10:00 a.m. appointment and was never informed that the office was running far behind. After waiting 20 minutes, I was told it would be "5 more minutes," which turned into much longer. When I explained that I had another appointment to make, the staff member at the desk was unsympathetic and dismissive. At 10:40 I was finally called back, only to be told there were no rooms available and other patients would go first. I ultimately had to leave and return later in the day. Delays happen, but patients deserve honest updates and some respect for their time. Several other patients in the waiting room were frustrated as well. read more

Saw Dr Chait and had a good experience. I had a full eye exam, then she spoke with me re the results. She seems vert competent and knowledgeable. I had some scar tissue in one eye which she removed by laser. She is very personable and thorough. Based on my one visit I would recomment her. read more

I saw Dr. Prendiville one time in the fall of 2024; he referred me to Desert Retina for my retina problem, where I received excellent care. Desert Retina referred me back to Dr. Prendeville in December of 2025 because I have a cataract that is now operable, and I have tried many times to make an appointment with them via their website as well as direct emails. The only responses I get are automated, saying, "Call us." I can't, I don't have a phone. Let's face it, a cell phone is a system for defrauding senior citizens. Worst experience ever! I had an appointment with Dr Prendiville scheduled for over 2 months. I arrived for my appointment and waited 20+ minutes only to have the receptionist call me over to tell me my appointment had been cancelled. She could not tell me why but only it had been cancelled. She was short, rude and dismissive. She never said I am sorry or can I make another appointment for you. Nothing!! I had heard the doctors are very good. My visit with Dr Shaaf was fine, the only thing was that his technician gave me wrong information on where I was to go for the follow up tests he had requested. The overall rating is because of his office and staff. I followed up with a question for the doctor on Monday morning. The tech called me back in the afternoon and left a voicemail to call her back. I called back maybe 15 minutes later but they were closed/don't answer phones after 4:30pm. I called again Tuesday and left a message to call me back. Called again Wednesday, and was told she'd be calling me back in 'a few minutes'. Waited for another 2 hrs and called again. It's now been a week since that last phone call and I've heard nothing from them about my original question or the results of the additional tests. I showed up five minutes early for my appointment and about 19 other people were already waiting to be seen by the doctor. I asked how long the wait would be and they said they were running a little behind, but one woman said she had been waiting there for 40 minutes already. I walked out and told them that I would reschedule. When I called to reschedule, a recording informed me that they "valued my time," and I was on hold for 10 minutes and never got to speak to anyone. Sloppy Administrative Work - Unprofessional Office Staff I was referred to the Shaaf Eye Center in Rancho Mirage by a Palm Desert optometrist. On the day of the appointment this past June one of the two ladies at the front desk asked me about the medical forms: I told her that I had PERSONALLY delivered the forms a week before the appointment. After a short wait I moved to one of the back rooms for a vision test and was struck by the number of 'assistants' wandering about. The young lady who performed the vision test was not very professional and not very adept at dealing with patients: she must have been an apprentice. By contrast the vision test in Palm Desert was performed by an OD, a doctor of optometry, and was more thorough. Then I moved to another, small room: my eyes were dilated and Dr. Mehdi Shaaf examined me. I found it very odd to see three ladies working or just standing in front of the computer. Again, it was a small room and it was CROWDED. Dr. Shaaf recommended surgery, but I did not set a date. Before I left, I requested a medical report which was printed ON THE SPOT. About two weeks later I noticed an error regarding my personal data; I returned to the Rancho Mirage practice and asked one of the receptionists if she could fix it. She told me that "the technician who could correct the error was not available" (sic). We agreed that the corrected page would be mailed to my home address. It is now FOUR WEEKS and I have not received anything. I will not be returning to the Shaaf Eye Center in Rancho Mirage either for a follow-up vision test or a surgery read more

The doctors are probably good as I was referred by my optometrist; so the 1 star is based on my experience with the office staff. When trying to make my appointment they kept me on hold so long i dropped the call and called back. Then they set my appointment for 8 am as that was best time for them. I arrived at 8 and they said all appointments had been cancelled for today. I asked if they typically notify patients about this and they said they did ; however nobody contacted me. I had narrow angles in my eyes which threatened Glaucoma. My eye pressure went up and Dr. Shaaf did a reasonably easy surgery which opened the angles. Due to Insurance changes, I had to switch to another Doctor. It has been over 15 years , and by now, 3 other ophthalmologists have seen my eyes. All the new Doctors are great too, but they all say the same thing, "Dr. Shaaf did a great job on your eye surgery. You will most likely never have to have the surgery again". In addition, there was an incident where Dr. Shaaf's associate gave me a prescription, it had side effects which scared me and because Dr. Shaaf had given me his personal cell phone number, I called him......at 12:30 AM. i did not have a great experience with dr Shaaf With my 2nd cataract surgery and he pretty much blew me off saying he gave me 20/20 vision (untrue) and that's it. my vision is blurred and my astigmatism, which I paid extra to have corrected is 3 x worse than it was. I have since seen amother well respected opthamologist who confirmed I wasn't imagining things. Make sure you get a second opinion before dealing with your eyes. read more

I cannot say enough great things about Dr Prendiville. I have a new, concerning eye condition and needed to be seen right away. As we are relatively new to the area, I did not have an ophthalmologist. Dr P didn't care, he got me in right away to run tests to be sure that my retina was not detaching, a very time-sensitive condition. He was kind, patient and knowledgable. I will be going back in today for some more tests as Dr P got me in late in the day yesterday after his staff was gone for the day. I recently had cataract surgery in both eyes performed by Dr. Prendiville. I found him very thorough, competent and patient. I have now been to a total of seven visits to the Shaaf Eye Center. The wait times for all of my appointments were very acceptable - I think the longest I waited was 10 minutes after checking in. The office is well run - efficient and the staff is very friendly. I had my surgery done at the Mirador Surgical Center by Dr. Prendiville - also very well run with a friendly staff. They went out of their way to make me feel comfortable and explain every step of the process. I recommend Dr. Prendiville and the Shaaf Eye Center for anyone needing cataract surgery - or for visions issues. I originally went to the Center due to a rapid change in my vision (a burst of floaters) which turned out to be benign, but was highly concerning at the time... I will add that my wife had cataract surgery for both of her eyes by Dr. Shaaf and was also pleased with the outcome. read more

I had an excellent experience with Dr. Prendiville, who did cataract surgery on my left eye. Everything went smoothly and there were no complications. Dr. Prendiville is an extremely competent and thorough ophthalmic surgeon, whom I can recommend highly. Unfortunately, even though I now need a new prescription, Shaaf Eye Center does not provide eyeglass prescriptions if you need a new one after your surgery. So you need to go to another doctor for that. That isn't the case for many eye centers, so you should consider that when you consider Shaaf. Everything else is truly excellent. read more

I would highly not recommend Shaaf Eye Center. Their professionalism and customer service is beyond horrible. I had a unsuccessful surgery in which I now have permanent damage to my vision, sensitivity to light and cold from a cataract surgery. They only followed up with me once after the surgery when they were very well aware of what damage was done to my eye. I went to other eye doctors and they all verified that Dr Shaaf scratched my eye during the surgery. I am beyond disappointed with their customer service. read more

Impressive work Dr. Shaaf. He saved my R eye from severe corneal abrasion which was a really bad infection from wearing contact lens over long period of time. He saw me everyday with thorough exam and treatment every day and even over the wknd. If it wasn't for his excellent work; the infection could have spread to my field of vision . Over the weekend, on Saturday in the late afternoon, I was trimming a Fire Cactus in my yard, without knowing it was a toxic plant. Within an hour I found myself in the Desert Regional Medical Center ER, in an incredible amount of pain. The awesome medical professionals there were able to stabilize me with eye washes and meds, and, after about 9 hours, I was back home by 3AM. Yet it was necessary for an eye doctor to conduct a follow-up as soon as possible, and that's where Dr Kevin Prendiville, enters the picture The ER doctor advised me that Dr. Prendiville would be calling me in the morning...and would see me that day in his office...on a Sunday! I met him Sunday afternoon and he was able to diagnose my situation, leaving me feeling quite lucky to have met him. I live in Palm Springs, yet will most happily travel to my new eye doctor's office in Rancho Mirage from now on. read more

Something needs to be done about honoring appointment times. I always show up at least 15 minutes prior to my appointment time and then wait and wait and wait. Not unusual to still be waiting 30-45 minutes past appointment time. Need to bring a book or lunch etc to any appointment. Maybe only schedule as many people as the doctor can see? No pun intended. The office wants the patient to call them. This wasn't communicated to me by my OD, in fact, she said the office would call. This office said they would call to schedule after 3 business days.
