Called this office, got a nice guy who took all of my information and tried to set me up with an appointment for a few weeks out. I explained that I had a situation that requited immediate attention. He was very helpful and sent me to the front desk to have them find a spot for me. I spoke to a woman who was cold, rude and asked for all the same information I had just given. She also said she had no idea who I spoke to but she was full and couldn't fit me in for weeks. I explained that my eye was giving me pain, asked to be put on a waiting list for any possible cancellations and she said no one ever cancels. Again, she was rude, disinterested and was clearly just trying to get me off the phone. Not as place I would ever want to have handle my eye health. Amazing experience from beginning to end. The office staff is so incredibly helpful and efficient. Dr. Prendiville truly lives up to his long-standing reputation of being one of, if not, the best ophthalmologists in this region. He has superior qualifications and extensive experience. He recently performed cataract surgery on both of my eyes. Only hours after my surgery, Dr. Prendiville personally called me to see how I was doing. When I informed him that I was experiencing pain in that eye, he immediately prescribed medication to resolve the problem and gave me his cell phone to call him, if the medication did not help. Horrible experience over the phone trying to make an appointment and know how much it's going to cost me. Wanted to know what The initial exam price would be. The woman said between 80 and 280 and I said this doesn't make any sense. How can you not know the price. Her response was well if you have a big problem the cost might be 280 because you'll have services after initial service. I told her I understand I might need more services but why would that affect original exam price. She blamed the doctor and how he would code it. And still said she couldn't quote me an exact price. That is a horrible business practice to not be able to quote the cost of an initial exam to a cash paying customer. read more

I first came across Dr Prendiville when I was looking for a doctor to examine my eyes and give me a prescription for contacts and glasses. I have always gone to a doctor because One, my insurance pays for it and Two,they can look and see if there's anything wrong with my eyes as well as issue prescriptions for contacts and glasses. So I called him a for an appointment and explained what I was looking for to the receptionist and she said great and booked the first available appointment in three weeks. When I showed up, I filled out the documentation for a new patient and waited my turn. My name was called 15 minutes later and I went back and met the doctor and he proceeded with the exam. He had to dilate my eyes. I thought that he was just being more through as he was an eye surgeon. I asked about it and he stated it was common practice in SHAFF eye center to get a very detailed look into the back of each eye. It was a long exam and by the time I was finished, I asked him to write a prescription for contacts and glasses. He said to me that it is the policy of SHAAF EYE CENTER to not give out prescriptions to patients. The vast majority of patients who come there are looking for an eye surgeon! He does cataract surgery, presbyopia, and just about any other type of surgery that can happen with peoples eyes as they get older. He is an independent contractor who happens to work at SHAAF EYE CENTER and has hospital privileges in the Coachella Valley. He proceeded to tell me that I had a little wrinkled cornea in my right eye and gave me all this paperwork to read about it. He also said I need to go to an optometrist and get an exam to get my glasses and contacts lens. He also informed me my astigmatism had returned in my left eye after my LASIK surgery years ago. I asked the receptionist at the front desk why they don't say on their Internet site or on the phone when you make an appointment yet they do not give out prescriptions for contacts or glasses. They try to tell all the people who call for appointment for glasses or contacts that they do not do this as common practice as they do not have a in house optometrist. I Finally realized that this is no different than any other Doctor Who has chosen to specialize in a certain field of medicine. Gone are the days when we have lots of general practitioners to take care of our every need. Now we have a specialist for everything! Cardiologist, radiologist, pulmonologist, orthopedics, wrist only, hand only, fingers only, shoulder only, knee only, podiatrists for our feet, gastrointestinal doctors for our stomach and digestive tract, pain specialists,spinal doctors for certain sections of the spine. Lumbar, Thoracic, Cervical and a host of different kinds of doctors to treat every from pain to a slipped disc to CNS issues, Spinal surgeons, etc. Why should the field of Eye Doctors be any different? Yes, the days of going to one eye doctor for all your needs has been slowly replaced by higher priced specialist for a host of issues that can go wrong with your eyes. I have always gone to an eye Dr. every year to have mine checked and this will be the first year that I will now go to an optometrist to get a prescription for my new glasses as well! I will return to Dr. Prendiville to get my eye health checked next year and then head to a local provider to get my glasses and contacts filled. One of my favorite Mantras that I think and practice daily is that the only factors that are truly constant that we have no control over is CHANGE, TAXES AND FINALLY DEATH. I read all the reviews for Dr. Prendiville, MD, but unfortunately I wish I could say I had the best experience ever as some of the other reviews I read, but no, my experience was not good. I went in for cataract surgery I was so excited hoping to see better and not wear glasses and at that time Dr. Prendiville offered to have lenses put in my eyes was told I would see better but it was going to cost me close to $2000, not including the extra fees at the surgical place in Palm Springs, these fees were extra after my insurance paid. After my surgery I was so disappointed I could not see that much better, I tried letting the nurse know when I went in for my post surgery visit, but she seem very disinterested, I also let the doctor know and after 3 more visits nothing was better and was told I had to go to my Optometrist to get glasses. The reason I had cataract surgery was not to wear glasses, my eyesight is not better instead when I am driving it is scary because when I have to see towards the left for oncoming traffic I see double, now out of a few hundred of dollars I am afraid of going to another doctor, it is so hard to trust. read more

I was very surprised by the attitude of Dr. Prendiville. He seemed almost disinterested in me once I opted for the regular cataract surgery with none of the pricey extras. I am not there for witty conversation but he said next to nothing to me. He did the procedure fine, but that is about it. I asked, at my first visit, about my drooping eyelid. He gave me information about that. When I requested that we see if Medicare would approve the surgery (the lid blocks at least 50% of my vision), I was scheduled for tests and measurements (that is what I was told) and to allow 45 minutes for the visit. The visit lasted maybe 15 minutes and there were only tests, no measurements. Tech told me that Dr. would be in touch after reviewing tests. One week later, they called and told me that Dr. thought the test results were marginal so I needed to come back for measurements. (would not say why the measurements were not done at the first visit as I was told.) Could not get in for 3 weeks. When I showed up, I was told that my appointment was the next day. That was a day of the week that I never schedule appointments due to spouse's standing infusion appointment. I left with a promise of a call to reschedule; I have not heard from them yet (24 hours). Long story, but feel like they really were not interested in doing the procedure and could care less if I come back. read more
