I have been an asthma patient at this practice for over 10 years and have been well taken care of, especially when Dr. Slobig was practicing. Last month, I came in to see Dr. Ahmed and had been on steroids for a week. He told me I was wheezing but told me to just keep on the same dose of steroids and that I would be fine. I was shocked he wasn't willing to do anything else to help me. 4 days later I wasn't feeling any better and went to the hospital and was there for 3 nights. Ended up on 50 liters of high flow oxygen. I saw Dr. Choudhri, with East Valley Center for Pulmonary & Sleep Disorders, at the hospital, and he was very knowledgeable. I am being seen in his office now by Heidi his NP and am receiving excellent care! They are very proactive in treating my asthma! read more

I went to the ER over 2 weeks ago and was instructed to follow-up with my doctor. I have constantly called, left messages and to date no return call. At this point I have to find another pulmonary. I have never had issues with them.......im completely in shock! read more

I've been coming here for about 7 years and I've received excellent care. I started off with Dr. Slobig who retired and was absolutely amazing. I've also had maybe two appts with Dr. Gil who was also very kind and attentive. Since Dr. Slobig retired, PA Ian Pierrone has taken excellent care of me. He actually listens, and I don't feel rushed during my appts. Reading the negative reviews was a bit of a surprise to me. I receive callbacks, get appointments in a timely manner and having portal access is very helpful. Arizona can be quite challenging for asthmatics. The staff here is very pleasant and has really done a great job of providing care. read more

Getting an order to refill CPAP supplies every year requires a 5 min visit with the PA or NP. The actual providers are great. Their front office people not so much! When I was there a few months ago for my appointment that is scheduled annually on a Monday, they had failed to call me to let me know my provider wasn't going to be there, they did get me placed with another person, but not really any apologies, and they called all the other patients to cancel all the appointments for the day, even with the front desk lady talking about how they knew the provider wasn't going to be there the past Friday, she just didn't take the time to call and cancel that day. Then they called and left a message to reschedule my husband's appointment back this past Nov. and luckily he still had the voicemail, because of course, they didn't actually put it on the books and he showed up for his appointment and they didn't have it! Didn't care either until he played the voicemail for Amanda and it was her that made the call! The office staff are seriously making us consider changing pulmonary offices. read more

I've visited Desert Pulmonary and Consultants in Gilbert several times, and unfortunately, my experience has been consistently impacted by the negative attitude of the women at the front desk. Every time I check in, the energy is cold and unwelcoming, making it hard to feel at ease. I've never walked back to the exam room feeling calm or cared for, the MA that walks me back. I believe her name is Theresa, she's the only one who's genuinely kind and professional. She's the only one that I've dealt with that makes a real difference until the office culture improves. As others have stated I find it impossible to reach this office by phone. I have called and left my name and number and the "24-48 hours" that their voicemail states they will return your call within is not accurate. I have no idea where my care is in terms of received diagnosis and was told I would get medical equipment over a month ago and since then have received no contact from the office. I find it ridiculous that I call 5+ times a day and no one ever answers, I called from the parking lot one time and no answer. I walked in to find the reception staff all sitting there just chatting amongst each other with no patients in the lobby. read more

Dr. Slobig retired and when I went in I saw a PA Ian. He had me go to the downstairs lab to have follow-up Valley Fever bloodwork. When I checked Sonora Quest they had no record of this bloodwork. He also had me do a Cat scan of my lungs and I was never given results. I needed more cpap supplies and follow-up cat scan. I made an appointment with Dr. Johan. I got a call telling me she doesn't handle cpap stuff. I said just cancel the appointment since I want one pulmonologist to treat all my sleep and lung issues. I made a future appointment with a different office. I just got a letter that I was being terminated as a patient for being disrespectful. I terminated the relationship beforehand. I am writing this to caution you when seeing Dr. Gill. My elderly mother went in for an appointment on 02/11/2/26 because she was feeling extremely ill and was short of breath. She was a previous patient. Dr. Gill came in the room with his cup of coffee. He leaned against the counter and never sat to speak with her. After a brief 2 to 3 minute conversation, he appeared disinterested and almost annoyed at our presence. He then stated "this is not a lung problem ". He then went on to state that her issues were because of her previously diagnosed COPD. There was no assessment done with my mom at that time. His rude and dismissive attitude caused us to look for a different pulmonologist. Fast forward to two Hospital visits, one hospitalization, Rehab, and countless doctor visits. We were able to find another pulmonologist that did extensive testing to try to find the cause of my mother's issues. Today, May 21, 2026 we found out that she has an approximately 1" tumor in her lower left chamber of her lung that based on a pet scan could very well be cancerous. We are moving forward to get it biopsied to see if it is malignant or not. Please use this as a cautionary tool that you should always advocate for yourself and those you love. read more

No one ever answers the phone and says they will call you back in 48 hours. UNEXPECTABLE. This is for appointments and all other areas. They never return your call. They charge you for things they say are a no charge and then call you a liar when you question them. They also demand payment on a bill when you arrive at an appointment that has already been paid in full. So have your receipts. I absolutely would not EVER recommend this place to anyone. This USED to be a good an office but not anymore! You CAN NOT EVER speak to a human. You have to leave a message and then you never get a call back! My pharmacy has been trying to get a refill for mine and my husband's rescue inhaler with 0 response! We are now out of our inhalers! Not good during dust storm season! Tried to call the office and you can't talk to a human you have to leave a message! Not to mention the fact that they never sent out a letter letting us know that our doctor was retiring! i would not recommend becoming a patient at this practice, it will put your health at risk. Find someone else. I have been calling for 2 months, maybe about 30 calls and left voicemails when the boxes aren't full. I need a CPAP prescription copy to get my supplies. Myself and my supply company have called over and over and have not had anyone bother to get the info. I can no longer use my machine, I am exhausted. I even told Dr Ahmed in person I needed this and where to send it. A rep for a national supply company has told me she has never had this much trouble getting a prescription. Whomever runs this office needs to be replaced. If you get referred here, do yourself a favor and pick anyone else. They are putting peoples health at risk! read more

Utterly Failed an Elderly Patient - Medical Abandonment at Desert Pulmonary & Sleep Consultants My family and I are appalled and deeply concerned by the egregious lack of care and outright medical abandonment demonstrated by Desert Pulmonary & Sleep Consultants. Our 81-year-old loved one, an established patient suffering from chronic insomnia, was refused a 30 day refill on his maintenance medication, leaving him in a vulnerable and distressing situation while recovering from pneumonia. After 15 calls to the office over 3 days with zero results, we were forced to contact his PCP who was not treating his condition to prescribe the necessary medication. What took Desert Pulmonary & Sleep Consultants 3 days to simply comprehend their patient's medical needs despite repeated phone calls, took his PCP a matter of hours to complete. This isn't a matter of dissatisfaction with bedside manner; this is a clear case of medical abandonment. As defined, this occurs when a healthcare provider fails to uphold a patient-provider relationship and its expected medical care without adequate notice or ensuring the patient can obtain equivalent care, a fundamental breach of their duty. Desert Pulmonary & Sleep Consultants exhibited all the hallmarks of this unacceptable practice. There was a clear and established doctor-patient relationship. Yet, the failure to deliver care was unilateral, without any prior discussion or agreement with the patient or our family. We were given no adequate notice to find alternative care for a serious and ongoing medical condition. Most critically, Desert Pulmonary & Sleep Consultants made absolutely no provision for the continuity of care. There was no referral, no guidance on where to seek help, simply a dismissal that left an elderly patient struggling to find necessary medical support. This isn't just inconvenient; it's detrimental to the health and well-being of a senior citizen. Chronic insomnia significantly impacts quality of life, and to abruptly cut off care without a plan in place is unconscionable. This practice has failed in its most basic duty: to provide ongoing and responsible medical care to its patients. We strongly advise anyone seeking reliable and ethical pulmonary or sleep care to look elsewhere. Desert Pulmonary & Sleep Consultants has demonstrated a shocking disregard for the welfare of their patients, and their actions in abandoning an elderly individual are simply inexcusable. New patient, terrible experience. I had an appointment on 12/29 at 2:20pm with doctor Mary. Unfortunately since this was my first time going to this office I didn't know my way there and my GPS was taking me to a different address, once I realized this I knew I was going to be late to my appointment, I called the office to explain the situation and they advised this doctor has a strict 15 minute grace period, which is understandable. I arrived at the front desk at 2:28pm, the assistants then told me they were going to have to ask the doctor if she could still see me, mind I arrived within her so called "strict grace period" after several minutes the assistants came back to tell me I would need to reschedule because I arrived late and the doctor was still with another patient at the time. I decided not to reschedule. I admit I was late but it seems this was not really a factor, the doctor was behind schedule since she was still working with a previous patient, this person just decided not to see me, ridiculous. read more

I had my first appointment with Mary last week. I am very impressed with every aspect of this facility. I called and left a voice message to schedule a first time appointment, and was promptly called back within an hour. I was also able to get in the next day with Mary. Mary is awesome at her job. She really Knows her field and was able to quickly assess my situation. I highly recommend this facility. read more

Dr. Barnard was amazing, but the quality of care that I received after his retirement has been abysmal. My new prescriber never responds promptly to rx refill requests, always resulting in my being out of meds for a few days when I need his response. The new sleep specialist wasn't even familiar with narcolepsy! How can a physician be a sleep specialist while also utterly ignorant of a salient sleep condition? To even talk to a live person you have to wait 48 hours at least to talk to anyone and I was waiting for a lung X-ray for 2 weeks and still haven't got it Every time I call I have to wait 48 hours to talk to someone and they still can't send it. I tried until five o'clock and then while I was on hold it told me that they were closed. This place is beyond a joke. I have seen two providers there, 1 PA Monique and 1 Doctor Dr Ahmed... they were both wonderful. Each time I come the entire staff is brand new the only 2 consistent people I've seen over the years especially since they shut down one office have been a pearl and a crystal and they are always pleasant, kind and helpful. The manager must have been picked out of a cracker jack box or non existent because when I have asked to speak with her she is ALWAYS "in a meeting" and returned my call a WEEK later. I have since left this office because of many many issues specifically AFTER their office has been closed and I have no idea how THIS office is still in business or how the owner of the practice is not worried about losing everything. I'm happy I could keep my Doctor as he works at another facility down the road but advice for anyone including the two employees that have been there... RUN!!! read more

Unless you have insurance that can be exploited, prepare to be made to feel like scum. When I failed to do my home sleep study accurately, I was told by front desk staff that "They don't have time to deal with people like me!" But apparently the billing department has all the time in the world. All I wanted was a new CPAP machine. What I got was a several hundred dollar bill and sub-standard care. Ended up getting a new CPAP machine less than legally. :( I wish I could them zero stars! Avoid this place. Update: So to fix the problem rather than deal with their rude front desk staff, they decided the best action would be to forget anything ever happened by removing me from the system. Doctor Gill's medical assistant, Sharon is ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE at her job. (Have dealt with this SAME EXACT issues for the last 4 months) I call every month to get my medication refilled and am always forced to leave a message and can never speak with her directly. Nor does she ever call me back to confirm or to notify me. I ALWAYS call 6-7 days before I run out because my pharmacy always needs a few days to fill the prescription. I called 6 days ago and SHARON NEVER sent my refill prescription over. I'm now out of medicine and can't even drive myself to work. This is very frustrating and dangerous to not do your job SHARON. People that come and see your BOSS (Mr. Gill) have serious issues and RELY on their medication. DO YOUR JOB read more

The front office staff is by far and wide the rudest I have ever experienced at a doctors office. I've seen overworked, stressed out, and preoccupied which are all understandable and excusable but not the two staff members I encountered, not just rude but tag team mean to the point I almost walked out. I have had an A++ experience all around, from doing the sleep tests, both self and in-lab, and to having the staff talk to the Insurance company to get the best rates and fees, to being seen by Jaime Black who is a God-send and Angel in disguise, she has been able to help me when I haven't been able to figure out my fatigue and tiredness and solution for the last twenty years. She also took the time to help me find a way to pay the lowest amount for the prescription which is the difference of hundreds of dollars. As everyone can see, most reviews here are terrible.. as per my other doctor who said most of his patients said to him they can't stand the office so he decided to stop referring them anymore. ALSO a Gilbert hospital Doctor told me the same when I was there for my asthma and a nurse suggested them. I went to this office in 2009 and only left because of the blatant disrespect of the office and how incompetent and extremely rude they are. They have no problem with being nasty right to your face and treating you like your scum and they're above you. The wanna be badge holding people who really are nothing themselves. Like they're the owners ..misconceived realities on their part. Unfortunately, since I have severe asthma and have been intubated four times, a highly sought out doctor in the east valley who is a friend, swore about a certain doctor there that I should absolutely see. With hesitation , but highly valuing his opinion on every level, I called. They said they were going to email me new patient paperwork after I gave them the information they needed. After not receiving it in a couple of days, I called back. And phone calls went back and forth for a few days with separate individuals AND with 6 emails as well to try to just simply get the paperwork . with three different people, I still have not received anything. On the phone and in their emails, they continuously say they need the information and my phone number doesn't work. Funny since they have called me back twice and I had conversations with them. Needless to say, when I called AGAIN, for the 3rd time.. which was today to say I am still very confused.. Which that is all I have been saying.. over and over in my calls and my emails..never getting nasty or never out of line.. I just kept saying over and over, I am very confused.. well apparently that to them brought me to their conclusion today which was from their practice administrator.. she said.. we have decided with the doctors that WE ALL decided we would rather not have you here and to go somewhere else because of your attitude. STAY AWAY. Borderline malpractice. I saw the non-doctor PA Chris as well. He is completely uninformed. I went in already knowing and having been diagnosed with severe sleep apnea. He told me I needed to repeat all the tests (and of course pay the hundreds of dollars for them) because he wanted "recent" results. I reluctantly obliged. However, I told him right away I would not and could not tolerate CPAP, and was there looking for an alternative treatment. He told me that was very "rare" and that all his patients who use CPAP love it. Do a little research and you'll find that CPAP noncompliance is around 50%. Insurance won't even cover it at first until they know if you will use the machine because there is such a high failure rate with this treatment. I did my tests, paid all my money, and as I already knew, I had severe sleep apnea. So I asked him what can we do? He said CPAP. I told him no, remember I can't tolerate CPAP. He says well the mask have gotten much better and that's all he can do for me. I was shown a whole selection of 3 masks, none of which worked. I asked him about alternative treatments, he said "I don't know of any". Huh? I showed him 2 or 3 cutting edge treatments I read about. He said "I don't know anything about them." How does a doctor (or rather a PA) not know about progressive and new treatment in their own field? This guy is a joke. This place is a joke. It's a business first, medical treatment center second. They sure have their billing and money taking systems down though. Bring your credit cards. Oh and then they will refer you to their other business where they will sell you the CPAP machine and supplies, whether you can use them or not. All the while the only thing you will hear is that CPAP is a miracle, everyone loves it, and its worth the money. read more

Other receptionists have SAID they've completed what I've asked of them, but weeks go by, I call back, and someone tells me my request had never been processed. Dr. Ahmed is impossible to get an appointment with! A follow up appointment required me to book two months in advance. Not to mention he isn't nice or helpful.
