After I mentioned that I was moving out of my parents' home, much of the session was spent with Dr. Tregoob looking for apartments on his phone. From my perspective, this did not feel like a therapeutic exercise. Instead, he periodically pointed out available apartments in good areas and encouraged me to act quickly if I found one I liked. My recollection is that he also arrived late and ended the appointment early, and there were long periods of silence during the session. The reason this is not a 1-star review is that I had seen Dr. Tregoob several years earlier and found him knowledgeable about anxiety management. While I had noticed some similar time-management issues during those earlier visits, I felt he demonstrated genuine expertise in treating anxiety. Just found out that she is NOT licensed to practice psychological services; I searched the AZ Board of Behavioral Health Examiners after being informed by the Deputy Director Arizona Board of Psychologist Examiners. First off, she was late. I had to wait outside in the heat for her and she did not bother to call. She said she had a professional emergency call but really, she just needed to pick up her son. She spent the majority of the time taking about herself and her issues: she was a drug addict (her 1st husband got her addicted & she is still fighting him in court) which is the reason her second husband left her - but the church is trying to convince him not to divorce her. She is having severe financial problems (which is why she kept pushing me to come in earlier than I wanted to) & a tough time taking care of her children solo. She has an open Worker's Comp case that has been going one for years; very few friends & she is hoping her husband doesn't divorce her because he is a good man. I write this because I should not know details of her personal life; it's grossly inappropriate & not therapeutic. I sat there and listened to her babble about her issues & was surprised that she had not even read the information I submitted online about the crises that I am facing & why I needed help. She was disinterested in what I was saying and was more focused on herself and then on my son. She even offered for us to come over her house so she can watch my son and I can "rest." It sounded nice on the surface but her offer was completely unprofessional and counselors need to have appropriate boundaries. This was a warning in the article. She also texted me incessantly & when I let her know that I need to pause because I only had funds to left to pay for my son's formula, she called & told me to ask a church to get the money to pay her. I am disabled with a painful condition that limits my mobility and daily activities and it takes a lot to get out of the house, especially with my infant. This did not matter to her; she kept pushing me to come saying I needed to see her immediately. I told her that I needed time to get home health care & child care setup so I can focus on counseling (I was distracted the first session but she insisted that I bring my infant) and I would follow up with her the next week. She did not wait for me to call her but texted early morning wanting me to come (so she could bill me although I had already explained to her the situation) & when I told her I could not she told me that: she is running a business, cancelling the contract, & billing me for early cancellation and not showing without giving 48 hour notice - $300! She was also texting me with terms of endearment and acting like we were best friends. Remember, I only met her once. Red flags were everywhere and I thought her behavior was strange when I met in person; something& was off. I usually give people the benefit of doubt and thought I would at least try another session once I got childcare, someone to drive me, and the finances. Also, she also asked me to write a review for her the next day after the first session! Why would I write a review when no progress was made? So, here is the review she requested: In my opinion, April Tanner is a con artist that misrepresented many things (including her credentials) and preys on people when they are in a vulnerable state. I did not sign her financial consent forms & instead of allowing me time to get things in order so counseling could be a success; she wanted to manipulate me into doing things that I was not comfortable with. Trust your instinct; if a mental health professional is unprofessional, requires you to sign contracts (I've done counseling many times in my life and not one required me to sign something with cancellation fees because sometimes you don't gel well with the counselor - but you pay for each session as you go), contacts you constantly in inappropriate manner, and tries to forge a personal relationship with you - RUN!! Find someone else because they are not concerned with your best interest and will do more damage if you share personal things with them. She is hard up for money & will do anything to get you to pay her. I wasted $150 to listen to her talk about herself and then she wanted me to pay her $300 because I needed to schedule our second session when I could have help to get there - she is certainly a predator & hiding behind the Christian title. Wolf in sheep's clothing. Beware & read up on narcissist counselors before you go to one. She needs counseling and not to use her clients to get her needs met for attention, friendship, and manipulating to get more money. I should have followed my gut & not gone to the session. UPDATE: She has threatened to sue for this review.

To be honest, I may or may not recommend depending on who's going to therapy. I'm sure it's the right type of therapy for some. For my son, just sitting and talking to the therapist was torture for him (social anxiety in talking to some unknown guy). I felt there had to be a better way to reach him. We went for a few sessions and I finally gave in to my son pleading to not have to go. Again, for some people it may be perfect.

Additionally she seemed to be unaware of the functions of several key neurotransmitters affecting depression. I left wondering how she got the job. Most problematic for me is the core principle of this place. As I (don't) understand it: we are responsible for our physical pain. We have pain because we think we have pain; It's imaginary, we've chosen it. I asked about a close friend dying of cancer: he only imagines he is in pain? Answer: he probably did have some real pain but not as much as he thought. That's when I gave up.
