Patio lights installed in my pool area
    Sally K.

I put a request in with Desert Sage Landscaping (on Thumbtack) to install patio lights in my backyard yesterday afternoon and 24 hours later the job is done! I have been a home owner for 37 years and have never been more impressed with a company. Miguel called me within 30 minutes of my request being posted and came out the same day to discuss the job and give me a quote. I was unsure how best to design the patio lights and he had helpful suggestions that also included how to best hang the lights so that they would stay in good condition for a long time. He was careful not to disrupt the irrigation lines and cleaned everything up at the end of the day. He also made sure my questions were answered and had a friendly easy going way. I highly recommend Miguel's company, Desert Sage Landscaping, and will be contacting him for future projects

All plants Juan installed died, contacted about replacing, havent heard back. On top of mis matching lights.

Juan, Cmon man. I found out today when you installed the turf & drip lines you shut the water off to the backyard! Now i have to pay someone to dig up the line to restore my water to the backyard. Thanks. Paid over 24k for a front yard project, it looks beautiful. Minus all the dead plants and mis matched lights and had to turn off the water to the backyard

    retainer wall

Desert Sage did a great job transforming our yard into a place for us to enjoy. It took a lot of hard work to level and prepare the yard for turf and pavers. They were reasonably priced and kept consistent communication through challenges. We ended up paying more than we expected because our yard had existing structures under the dirt--so their team recommended a retainer wall to conceal an uneven landscape. They adapted to the challenge, but I'd advise anyone to keep an extra budget in your back pocket in case this happens for you too. We were going to do the side yard, but didn't have the money for it after that. There are a couple areas where detail work wasn't as crisp as we'd hoped, like the grout in retainer wall and some uneven ground below turf--minor details, but important factors in your decision to hire. Ultimately, we're so happy with how it all turned out. I would totally recommend to anyone looking for an affordable option.

    New lines to fix leak
    Lori S.

Had a sprinkler line leak along with a few other leaks. First to respond and happened to be able to come out later the same day. Was able to do the full repair and also took out dead plants and replanted new plants that I had bought. The price was reasonable and in line with other estimates. Miguel was very helpful and responsive to any questions or concerns I had. Will definitely use his services again.

Expensive, awful service, and inexplicably poor work quality. I hired Desert Sage to completely replace my very old irrigation system and replace the old poly line with PVC, redo a paver walkway, and plant 6 trees. Here are my opinions of the experience and work provided: Price/Value: Based on other quotes, expensive. Even after being on the higher initial price of my other quotes, Desert Sage kept adding costs saying that each item "was not included in the price" (which was untrue). The company charged premium prices and provided subpar work and service. Had they been the cheapest, I still wouldn't have gotten what I paid for, but I would not have been as disappointed. I had to pay a different company to fix and complete Desert Sage's work Quality: My opinion is that the work provided was inadequate and incomplete. I was left with a walkway that was worse than before and an incomplete drip system that did not reach all of the plants required. I was shocked that that what was provided was deemed to be even a minimally acceptable level of work quality. Reliability: My opinion could not be lower. Kept adding on costs and saying it was not in the agreed upon cost or that items that were not completed needed to be done by me. Part of their sales pitch was that they would send me an email that night showing all of the items they were completing and that this would serve as the start date for a 6-month warranty. No email was ever provided. Fortunately, my Ring doorbell captured this. I was able to review and ensure I was accurate in what we agreed upon before posting this review. Summary of items agreed upon, what was provided, and Desert Sage's responses: Item #1: Redo walkway and have concrete under to support and go to the edge flush with the paver bricks. Desert Sage suggested this & stated that they "do pavers all day every day and that it will look great" What was provided: * A walkway that had no discernable pattern * Uneven throughout and dipped down in certain spots * Unstable: the bricks clearly moved under your feet when you walked on it * Unsecured bricks on the edges - they were not supported with concrete sufficiently underneath and when you stepped on them they literally popped up in the air. Images provided Desert Sage's response: * Returned after failing to show on 2 prior days over a 2 week period * Regarding the edge bricks being unsupported and loose, they said that "we turned the sprinklers on and it messed up the concrete" (and yet they left it that way) * Their response to why there was no pattern & it looked so poor was that is not what we discussed and that the previous walkway had gaps (which is irrelevant as they were paid well to make the previous walkway better) * Their response to me pointing out that the bricks moved when you walked on them was "you are supposed to put sand in them when they are loose" (as if it were my fault) * After spending 38 additional minutes "repairing" the walkway (as verified by my security cameras), they left. I was left with something I cannot really explain. Concrete slopped underneath and hanging out of the sides. The attached pictures do not do justice to how poor the quality was Item #2: Replace irrigation system completely and ensure the same plants from the existing system were included What was provided: * PVC installed for the most part. Although the PVC did not extend far enough in 3 areas and the trenches where they dug are sunk down and the grass died (had to have it repaired) * Valves were replaced. This was a positive * Wiring was replaced although I did need to pay extra as I was told later that "this was not included in the price" even though the price was supposed to replace then entire system * Several plants had no new drip line to them (so no water) * Sections where the small "spaghetti" drip lines were used for long distances vs running the PVC further, resulting in too low of water pressure to supply water Desert Sage's response: * One section where they did not run PVC or drip lines they said there was debris there so we didn't run the line (they didn't bring this up to me or ask me to clear the section - they just didn't do it). Also, the debris was leaves and a garden hose * For the plants where no new drip line was supplied by Desert Sage, they said you can extend lines to the plants you want (again, acknowledging the job is incomplete and suggesting it is my responsibility) * For the plants missing drips, they stated we never discussed putting drips to these plants (The old drip line was visible and there would be no reason to simply exclude a bush clearly on the irrigation line) * They never even attempted to come back and the "warranty" was a complete hoax Had Desert Sage done even an adequate job, I would not have written this review. After working with a new company to repair & complete Desert Sage's work, the poor work quality & value from Desert Sage became more evident

    New path and landscape lighting.
    Shawn C D.

Juan was very flexible in what we wanted because we kept adding more things to the to-do list while he was working on our project. He built us a great little path to our back yard, and planted some plants and installed some landscape lighting.

South side with little Path mentioned.
    Daniel N.

After 10 years I finally had the opportunity to landscape our backyard, and improve the front yard. I used to Yelp to begin my search. Juan was quick to respond. During his consultation visit, I found it quite difficult for us to communicate in English. At the end of the consultation, I felt fairly comfortable that he had a good grasp of what I wanted. He had given us a quote, and had written down everything that was part of the quote. The quote did not have several Items that I had re-quested from him after our initial conversation, such as a powerline and a waterline from the wall to the future pagoda. But after seeing the numbers of his current quote, I decided not to add those items back in, as it was outside our budget now. As the process began to develop, the language, barrier and inability to come to a similar understanding, became problematic. Everything from the placement of the pavers, to the shape, quality and installation of the pavers and turf, ended up much different than I had explained. I will say that I am happy for the most part in the look of it all, but sadly it wasn't the fun experience I was hoping for. I would say that if you were going to work with Juan and his company that you be very very specific on exactly what you want. Here is a brief breakdown of each situation we faced to help you navigate yours a bit better: All the specific items of the entire job were verbally discussed, but did not end up on his quote. I would recommend a sketch of your yard with detailed notations of specifically what materials you want, the location, and in what design. I think he just didn't understand everything that I may have said. This should help you can get a complete quote. When they were laying the pavers for the back patio, they did not line them up straight so I have an angled set of pavers where they meet the patio. On top of that the pavers that were right up against the patio, the existing patio 3/4 of the pavers were above the existing patio by as much as a half of an inch. I guess I was a little shocked that they wouldn't see what a horrible trip hazard that was. He did rectify it, but now my patio is not level it slopes down where it meets existing patio. OK with it because the drainage seems to be effective. Towards the end of the project, I asked if he could just leave all the excess materials in one specific area on the south side patio until I decide what I want to do with it. He informed me that I didn't pay for the excess, that I had just paid for the exact amount, and any overage was his. Uhm...ok. This would've been fine with me if he would've explained that in the beginning. It just felt out of the norm. And lastly, once the project was done, there was one entire paver path that was supposed to go from the existing patio out to one of the new patches of turf. When I asked him when he was going to put that in, he said the path wasn't part of the quote. We had actually already discussed it and had agreed on the path. I told him that this was kind of the final mistake, and that I was really unhappy with the entire situation. After some discussion, he agreed to put a path in. Sadly, what he put in was some horrible looking access material he had from another job path. That was just really bad. at this point I just want to and said look I don't trust you guys anymore. I'll pay you for what you've done but I need to know where I can purchase those exact pavers that match so I can go purchase those and pay somebody else to finish the job. he then agreed to finish the path... Which he did. But did it have to be such a painful experience. In summary, I have waited some time to complete this review, as I am a major supporter of small independent business. But I also understand that as a contributor, I feel a personal responsibility to share this truthful information with those that take the time to look at true reviews. Hopefully this helps. In the end I'm satisfied and I'm happy with the look, it's a bit different than I imagined but it does look nice. It's just really disappointing, this was supposed to be a really fun creative process and it just turned out to be, a miserable one.

Very good value for the money! Opened up a project on Yelp and they came by and completed the work within hours. Trimmed our ficus tree and took care of the weeds out front and blew away / hauled away debris. Thanks!

    After their good work!

Quick and affordable. They cleaned up some really out-of-control weeds in my backyard. The picture is not the only thing they did, but it highlights the difference before and after! Highly recommend.

Your reviews looked great, which is why I called you in the first place. Great craftsmanship/ reviews or not, a homeowner is still liable if someone on the job gets injured and that could have potential to ruin someone's life in a lawsuit. Half the places I called didn't call me back and the ones that did took a couple of days. I think it's rather stupid and petty to leave a negative review when no actual work has been performed. Anyway, I came home last Wednesday afternoon to a big hole in my block fence due to an unidentified vehicle that lost control on the wet road. I talked to several contractors and learned that my block size (4x10x16) was discontinued a few years ago and nobody had any, not even suppliers. I was faced with replacing the panel with 4x8x16 block that would not exactly match the rest of the fence. I could live with that and requested quotes. Then Rod called me back and said he had some 4x10x16 block. I texted him a photo and he replied that he had enough block to add to my undamaged blocks to restore the wall. He gave me a price that was in between the prices I was getting for the smaller block. I gave him the job and he scheduled me for today, Thursday, which was fine because other contractors were telling me at least two weeks. Rod and his crew showed up at 5AM (to beat the heat) and were done before 10AM. They did a quality job and I would certainly call upon him for future masonry work.
