My review is mixed, I indeed obtained pain improvement with spinal epidurals but I had an extremely questionable experience at the Scottsdale location last week which leads me to leave a low review: I was waiting for my turn for an epidural injection when the physician came out of the procedure room visibly upset. She loudly called out the elderly nurse saying, "I didn't tell you to give him that. What did you give him? I said 0.2 not 2. He's too sedated!" She continued to loudly berate the older nurse for several minutes for over-sedating the patient while the octogenarian nurse apologized profusely. Mind you, there was an over sedated patient on the procedure table in the other room while the doctor and nurse were in the outside room having this exchange in front of other waiting patients. Wow. You'd think you'd be more worried about the patient who accidentally got too many drugs. There were 4 of us patients waiting to go back for our procedures witnessing this exchange. And remember we were next to receive IV sedation from this same nurse. And we were going to have needles placed in our spine by this fuming physician. It was not the most comforting position to be in. A while later the gentleman who received too much sedation came wobbling out of the procedure room. Of course we all watched and knew he was a walking drug error. The nurse later joked with him, "At least it didn't hurt." The whole situation was completely inappropriate to take place in front of patients, it was very unprofessional and extremely unsettling. This may actually be the most unprofessional medical situation I've ever experienced. read more

Dr. Puneet Ralhan was by far one of the best doctors I've ever had the pleasure of being a patient of in my entire life. Dr. Ralhan genuinely listens and understands what you are saying and knows exactly what to do after going over all your screenings and issues. He even took the time to tell me exactly what was going on with my spine and nervous system and what he could do to help. His beside manner was impeccable, friendly and most of all honest and upfront. I also want to add that his medical assistant Nicole was fantastic as well. She was incredibly helpful and willing to go out her way to help with what I needed. My experience at Desert Spine & Sports Physicians was amazing. My lower back had been bothering me for almost one year. The pain became so severe I needed a cane to walk, and it was a major effort to walk a couple of hundred feet. My spine was torqued to one side, and the only comfortable position was sitting. I saw Dr. Puneet Ralhan for my diagnosis and treatment. He ordered a diagnostic MRI, and then, on the follow-up, he outlined potential treatments. He told me we should start conservatively and then ratchet up if necessary. I liked the approach to my back issue. I agreed to interjections in my lower back near the area where I was experiencing pain. Within minutes after the procedure, my pain was gone; I was told that, along with the anti-inflammatory medication, an analgesic was injected. The analgesic wears off in a couple of hours but is used as a diagnostic tool to determine if the right spot was injected. The procedure itself seemed to take about 10 minutes, and I experienced no pain. Here I am a week after the procedure and my back continues to improve. I no longer need a cane, I can stand straight, and I can walk a couple hundred feet with no problem. I feel my back will continue to improve, my goal is to be able to walk 3 miles again and return to the gym. Dr. Puneet Ralhan was excellent! He answered all my questions and clearly laid out a process where my quality of life could improve. read more

One of the worst doctor offices. They don't answer the phone and they don't have an answering machine to reach the doctor. I went there based on a referral for my back pain. The doctor prescribed physical therapy which made it worse. So I got a cortisone shot which made it even worse. So after a week of the injection, I tried calling them. I was on hold forever with nobody answering. I have been in too much pain since I came to see them. I do not recommend this place if you have a back pain. read more

I had a knee replacement and the meds the Dr gave me weren't working so he referred me to the clinic. I met with Dr. Puneet Ralhan. I hadn't been able to really push myself at physical therapy due to the pain. With knee replacement, time is not on your side. You need to get pushing yourself at PT quickly in order to prevent scar tissue build up. He evaluated my situation, my history and decided on a mix of couple meds. The mixture he prescribed has been great. The pain is under control and I'm able to push myself at PT in order to break through. I can't thank him enough. He's also a great guy. Thank you very much. Wow, what a difference between being seen at Nova Spine (which I sat in their office for an hour, and was never seen) and Desert Spine and Sports Physical. From the get go, making an appointment to being seen. I would definitely recommend this place to EVERYONE. I called in, on a Thursday and a appointment was set up for to see them in in 2 days( not including the weekend). Even the receptionist was amazing and Dr. Minkley was such an informative doctor. To be fair - I would give the doctor a 5. However, your office is only as good as it's staff and their staff is far from great. I was sent to collections over a $27 bill, that never made it to me. I found out when I received a collections call. Called the office and was told by their billing department that they sent the bill to my email - I dug through every possibility and there was no email. Then she said they also sent a letter - however the address they used was not mine. Staff confirmed they had the correct address for me but they just sent it to the wrong address & she wasn't sure what to do because it's already been sent to collections. It's a big red flag that a medical practice is willing to ruin patients credit because of a $27 bill and accept 0 responsibility for their mistake. I was told the office manager would be reaching out, they didnt. read more

This was my first visit to Desert Spine & Sports Physicians, and I was very impressed. From the moment I called to make the appointment everyone I encountered was very professional, polite and efficient. I am very happy to be working with Dr. Rahlan. He explained my options very clearly, answered my questions in detail, was very empathetic, and made sure I was comfortable throughout my procedure. I had a gel injection in my right knee because of bone-on-bone pain and severe arthritis. Dr Rahlan says I should start to feel some improvement before next week's shot. I'm hopeful! I just had my first epidural steroid injection this morning. Never having had A procedure such as this I was mildly anxious but shouldn't have been. Dr. Susan Sorosky explained the short procedure very accurately and in just a few minutes I was walking out of the office with a big smile on my face. I saw Doctor Ralhan for hip pain. He took a thorough look at my current medical conditions and advised not to use Cortizone. Recommended an MRI and explained it to me at follow up appointment. Gave me my options and also his recommendations. I found him easy to converse with in discussing my condition and general health. I came in for a second opinion. He put me through to an Ortho surgeon ASAP. He seems to advocate for his patients well and I am grateful.

So far, they have cost me a small fortune, and have not relieved my mid back pain in the slightest. They talked me into a nerve oblasion, even though when they tested me to see if I was a candidate for one, I didn't feel any relief with the test. They keep wanting me to go to PT, which also costs a lot each visit, with very short-term relief. And then they just want to prescribe pain pills and muscle relaxers which I stopped cuz I was afraid of them. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Dr Le was very nice while she was talking me into going through with the procedures hardly covered by insurance.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It didn't work at all, and now I don't see her at all; just her PA. The system of scheduling patients is excellent and I have never had to wait. Dr. Ralhan is so gentle, explains everything thoroughly and in detail, and answers any questions clearly. I never felt rushed. I didn't respond to the area that was first treated but Dr. Relhan continued to work to find the source of my pain and " nailed it ". I have been seeing Dr. Le regarding issues with my back but she was not available until July 25. Due to the pain I have been experiencing I was reluctant in making the appointment. I was then informed that her PA, Susana Leyva, had a cancellation this afternoon. I was very impressed with Susana. She is a good listener and compared what I was telling her with the notes that Dr. Le had entered. Great idea to ensure we were all on the same page. We discussed several options that are available and never once did she try to interject her personal feelings. We both agreed on the same treatment and made the appointment. She will discuss with Dr. Le and if Dr.Le disagrees, she will contact me. Very knowledgeable, compassionate, and amiable. Fits right in with the rest of the staff of that practice. read more
