Today I went to Desert Sun tanning in Poulsbo and bought a package using an offer for $25 off which I received in an email. When the associate rang me up I realized the math was not adding up. I asked to see a break down of what I was paying for and she said "well I waived your new client fee($20) and that there isn't a 5.00 off button." A little taken back with that response which also felt like she was trying to be sneaky I told her if it's a $25 coupon you can't just void a $20 fee and think I won't notice.. she figured it out and gave me the correct discount and continued to say "well, that's what I was just told to do." Ok.... Seems shady.... Then, As I'm sitting there waiting she starts talking About me to 2 customers!!! such an uncomfortable situation! WTF all I asked for was my correct discount! I felt so uncomfortable and upset that the idea of going and laying in a "wellness pod" seemed like torture at this point. I confronted her about it and said, "I'm sorry but I wasn't trying to be mean, but only giving $20 off a $25 coupon is bad business practice".... She rolled her eyes at me and said "ok." Again wtf ... I told her forget it and asked her to just refund my package.. she couldn't figure it out and called the manager who also could not figure it out and would not talk to me since she's "off until Monday" I'm soo furious! This situation was beyond ridiculous and uncomfortable. I get it.. the girl was young and obviously immature but the owner not wanting to get on the phone with me to explain why they couldn't refund my $100 package was just a joke! This location has sadly gone way down hill. I moved away 1 year ago but still come out here every few months. The last time I came to this DS was about a month ago and it seemed fine, decently clean and presentable. Today was a different story. Inside of the Versa Spa I see what looks like dog hair a used up alcohol pad and the hose is just dangling on the laundry hamper. All over the floor is what looks like black mold that has not been wiped up all week. The blending lotion has the spout/ pump just hanging out and it appears it's broken and can't be put back together. (Kind of like this store) Even though it looked like the place was falling apart I decided to spray tan .. it felt like from my face to my mid-chest just hot air was blowing and it didn't feel like any liquid was really spraying out until about the third spray. I let the person working know that the spray tan solution must be low she said that they just replaced it so I assume they are just not cleaning the nozzle. I am glad this is not my only option for spray tanning anymore because I would be extremely disappointed if I paid monthly for a service and this was what the place looked like. Check your statements. They run various charges and then don't tell you about. I had to reach out to my bank to put a stop payment on a charge that Desert Sun in Poulsbo made without even asking me. Then she didn't know how to refund me and none of the other stores could help. I was told to dispute it on Monday. Is this how you run a business? read more

Of all the desert suns I've been to, this one always has exceptional service, quick check in, and lovely upper management. It's always nice to go somewhere frequently and have your name, bed and time ready to go. Not to mention the beds, bathroom and versa spa are always spotless, which is an absolute must. read more

The employees are always extremely helpful and so friendly!! The place is always clean and the beds are great. I go at least 3 times a week and have met most of the ladies that work there, and they have all been so helpful. They really know their stuff! read more

Customer service at this store is a joke. You could walk in at any given moment, whether it's packed or empty and you get the same treatment. Little to zero welcome when you walk in, little to no eye contact and extreme waiting time not only to tan but just to make first contact with staff. Not once during these waiting periods have I witnessed anyone on staff even bother with the common courtesy of making eye contact and saying 'Just a moment, I will be right with you'. On many occasions I have come here and there are 2 or 3 employees behind the counter. One is checking people in and the others apparently are only there o clean beds as they make NO attempt at customer service in any way. I have witnessed the 'extra' staff chatting, applying make up and even eating lunch behind a counter where people are waiting out the door. I get that these employees may not be trained to check clients in but it is above and beyond a bad image for a company when the employees are eating lunch behind a counter full of waiting customers with out even a word of welcome or an apology for a long wait. From what I have witnessed, the staff at this Desert Sun location does not take employment seriously. They lack general customer service knowledge and training, even general common courtesy which should be fairly self explanatory. With Apollo Salon down for so long from water damage this store was the only place to Tan in Poulsbo. Just because we don't have other options for this service does not mean clients deserve to be treated like crap after we spend so much money at your store. Get it together girls. read more

Their "expiration" rule is horrible!! Their staff are even worse. Tanning sucks!! Your hard earned money apparently 'EXPIRES'! They expect you to buy packages but then it expires within 45 days!! The rude & ditzy staff didn't even bother trying to help! Instead of helping me out, she proceeded to say "we have other packages" I KNOW I CAN BUY MORE and that you want to make more commission but I WANT TO BE ABLE TO USE THE TANS I BOUGHT!!!!! I left and went to APOLLO TANNING down the street. They have NO expiration dates and also a full spa service. One stop shop. I should have stuck with them from the beginning. read more

Without Desert Sun, ALL of me dies. With Desert Sun, a portion of me survives. I've tried other tanning spots and the truth is, they're like time traveling back to when if the tanning beds didn't kill you, the bacteria you come into contact with at the tanning salon surely would. It's horrific experience you'll never forget. SO GROSS. Desert Sun runs a clean, updated, comfortable, modern....NORMAL salon. Which is damn hard to find in this state of Washington read more

I bought a tanning package in preparation for my trip to Maui. Elisha was the one to help me and give me advice on the different beds and lotions. She was extremely helpful, knowledgeable and very nice as well. It was clear that she loves her job. I felt as if her pitch was sincere and not just a sales speech or tactic. So glad Desert Sun moved to this new location. The old building was a disaster! Obviously the landlord wasn't fixing things like a leaking roof and a leaking sink in the bathroom. The girls who work here are very nice, the service is good and it's nice and clean. Some of the reviews on here are from many years ago when it was in a different location and under different management. I've tried to tan twice in the last two days. The hours posted on google are either incorrect or the girls just aren't staying open. I only keep tanning here because it is the only place around. My account has been changed without my knowledge more than once, increasing my prices for no apparent reason. And the poor girls that work there are always alone and halfway trained on what to do, the turnover is insane. I'm lucky if I see the same girl more than 5 times. I've sadly even heard the girls working here complain about how terrible management is to them. You would think if a customer had a "spray tan membership" if they are UNABLE to use said membership, some kind of offer would be made to make up for this continual issue. Yeah this place is horrible, I dont remember a time they werent screwing me over. Which actually I canceled my account in Feb before I moved, and I just got charged from them for April, and they said I never canceled my account. Which smart me didn't save the receipt so there's a huge chunk of money gone for nothing. Always long long lines, and the girls there have no idea what they are talking about. read more

i love this tanning place. good location, staff is pretty friendly, it's clean and they have pretty good prices. only reason i give a 4 is because it is wayyyyy to quiet in there. like, you can definitely hear someone getting undressed in the room next to you. it's kind of weird lol play some music or something :) read more

I agree a lot with the review from J.A, the customer service at this desert sun is well below where it should be, I will say that in the past month i have seen many of the girls being a lot more friendly and taking care of business the way they should, one girl who is always there in the morning with long brown hair (can not remember her name) is always super friendly when i walk in the door always remembering my name and chatting with me , saying have a great day and thank you with a big smile when i leave. I have also seen a few times girls eating behind the counter never even looking up when someone comes in, one time i had a young girl tell me to hold on talking to her about buying a package so she could text on her phone, i couldn't believe it . I passed on buying the package. It is very odd that there will be a few girls working and only one will be on the computer while the other girls just chat away or stare at you, it would be very nice of them to at least look up at you and tell you the other girl will be right with you since shes the only one on a computer, maybe they should make a rule where more than two people in line someone needs to help,? just a thought. I will continue to go to this desert sun , just making sure i go in the mornings when i can see the friendly worker =) read more

I have been a member on and off for years. I primarily attend the Poulsbo and Silverdale locations. A few weeks ago, a young woman was giving her pitch to new customers and ignored me for 12 minutes instead of checking me in so I could get tanning. (Takes 15 seconds). Once the people left -- I lost my cool and in no uncertain terms called her out on the delay. She calmly apologized and made it right by giving me a couple of upgrade sessions which I did not ask for, but were greatly appreciated. I am well past that and am nice to her. She was brand new and I felt bad that I may have overreacted. The staff does make a special effort to get to know your name and be nice. I have had no problems with cleanliness. I love the flexible hours too. This is a good business. I am glad I joined. I refer anyone interested to this service. read more

I have been tanning here for a few years now, all of the girls I see regularly are very sweet and welcoming. Today however I went in to tan and the redheaded girl was working the counter. I have never seen her at the Poulsbo location but she was rude and had a snarky tone to her voice and what I observed as a bit of an attitude . As I was leaving the salon there was a second girl working the counter with her, they both said have a good day in a very rude condescending and sarcastic tone. I have worked customer service most my life and having a rude tone to your voice, rolling your eyes and having an attitude is not something that I consider good customer service. I purchased the unlimited package that allowed me the highest level of tanning. I was informed I could stop at any time. I did in September but they kept charging my account illegally! I went in a second time, in October to cancel AGAIN but they illegally charged my account AGAIN! November rolls around and they charged me AGAIN! I obviously had not been in their store according to their records for tanning but mysteriously there were no records of my cancellation. I got a hold of their corporate office and they accused me of lying, stating there were no records of any cancellation. They did offer me 3 months of tanning for future use, no refund. 1) Desert Sun Lies and steals money from their clients 2) Desert Sun has new employees every week, uneducated and uncertain of procedures 3) Desert Sun refuses to fix broken equipment months after bringing it to their attention. Poulsbo Sunless tan booth has a sharp screw poking out of the internal missing door handle. It sliced my hand open and never got fixed. The door handle is still missing. The girl was kind enough to give me a paper towel when I had gushing blood on my hand but never received a call from the manager as she promised. 4) Agee with previous complaints about customer service. The girls are busy on their phones, eating or chatting with each other instead of helping clients. 5) Desert Sun Tiana was incredibly rude and lied about resolving financial issues on her end. Canceling a subscription should not be so difficult. 6) My husband still has tanning on his account but refuses to use it after the way I was treated. 7) Desert Sun offered me 30% discount on all sunless tanning products to make up for getting cut on their sunless tanning door plus one free body wrap. What a joke, they give everyone discounts on products and the body wraps don't work. 8) Corporate promises to return your call but they don't. 9) The Manager is non existent, no matter how many times the girls promise she will call you. 10) Your better off just doing your own self tanner such as Banana Boat, Neutragena, L'Oréal, Jorgens, Hawaiian Tropic, Sally Hansen, Lorca, Nivea, Alba or St Tropez. They come in lotion or spray, GUARANTEED WITHOUT HEADACHE, SNOTTY RUDE CUSTOMER SERVICE OR SUNBURN. read more

The tanning is great customer service is terrible! I have been going to this desert sun now for 4 years. The girls up front do not greet you or even barely make eye contact with you. They check you in then immediately look back at their cell phones, eat or just socialize with one another. They never try to get to know the paying customers who walk in the door several times a week some probably daily. You would think after 4 years of being a paying customer you would be recognized by name (since they ask you every time you come in.) It's too bad because I really enjoy tanning there but because of customer service I would rather take my business where someone is actually going to appreciate it! read more

I just moved to the area and needed a spray tan before vacation. I received a wonderful email for a free tan and I decided this would be a great opportunity to check out Desert Sun in Poulsbo. I walked in and explained my situation and requested information about the facility and hoped for a tour. The girl that was working, Vanessa, was super short and rude towards me. She did not give me any information or a tour - just asked if I was going to buy anything. I told her I wanted to give the free spray tan a chance and she looked very annoyed. I told her I wanted to try a level 4 and she told me there is a $10 up charge for that. I told her I had the free tan coupon and she insisted I pay her the $10. I decided to do a level 3 since I was not properly prepared with cash and she literally ROLLED HER EYES AT ME. She input the information without another word and said "room 7" and moved onto the next customer. It was a terrible experience and I do not plan on returning. I wish they cared more about customer service than commission and sales. read more

I have been a customer with this company for over 3 years. They advertise 100% customer satisfaction. I recently had the occasion to test thier commitment to this, as a discrepancy in the status of my tan package came into question.I felt it was handled with mutual respect and they resolved it quickly and with my complete customer satisfaction.
