Other shops around town might give lip-service to safety protocols, (one shop only put on masks when they saw me at the door, and when I looked inside, they had their dogs running loose in the shop. I walked away), but the folks at Color Box don't play: they sanitize in and out, use gloves when appropriate, disinfect between each customer and greet customers outside. Even with all that, they still manage to make you feel well-cared for. Oh: they offer free touch-ups and trims, to keep you looking spiffy. Time to make my next appointment...

Lets just say, I was lucky to have any hair at all when she was finished. The mop on top was beyond damaged; breaking, tangled and burnt. Shawn agreed to consult and came up with a repair plan. Fast forward to 2021... Mick and Shawn have really stepped up to the challenges of covid. The shop is super clean, products are excellent, and I can't recommend the Color Box enough. No matter your hair, Shawn can work his magic to make it the best it can be. I wish I had never left Whidbey, and if I do manage to make it back, I will definitely return to the Color Box! While staying on Whidbey, I randomly looked up hair stylists and was extremely impressed by the phenomenal safety protocols that Salon Bella had (health waiver with sanitized pens, one client at a time, sanitization of chairs and tools in between customers, and even sanitization of POS surfaces used for payment). Tal was also able to accommodate a same day appointment at his very clean and modern salon. He helped me cut off 10 inches of quarantine hair into a lob that I absolutely love! We set up an appointment, I asked if I could pay before my wife got there (was trying to set everything up and pamper her a bit). Kristin explained they didnt do that and I said that was fine and that we would like to build rapport since it was going to be my wife's first time there. Directly after that she decided to cancel the appointment we had just set up and said to find someone else. So while I cant really say if they are actually good at what they do, I can she had poor customer service skill and lacked professionalism. I can only guess that my willingness to pay upfront made it so she couldn't fleece my wife for more money after her appointment, either way I would recommend everyone take her advice and find some place else to go to.
