Great bbq to be had at Kue'd Smokehouse!…read more I am a big Smokey D's fan but my cousins said this place was just as good and I have to say I'm a convert. Some things were better, others not as good, but good overall. Great brisket and burnt ends were ok but a little light on the smoke to be honest. The pulled pork was dry in some places and nice and juicy in others. The smoked Mac and cheese is mighty tasty and not too bitter from the smoke. Glad we tried the redneck nachos. They are made on house made potato chips and are a very unique treat. Also great bbq sauce! The original and spicy have excellent flavor. Glad to have another bbq spot in the DSM area to go to!

There's a particular smell that good barbecue joints carry -- the low, sweet perfume of wood smoke…read morethat clings to your clothes long after you leave. It's the smell of patience, of time, of a pitmaster standing watch over a stubborn hunk of meat for half a day or more. Walking into Kue'd, I was hoping for that smell. What I found instead was something a little more complicated. I ordered a half pound of brisket and a half pound of burnt ends, with a side of poblano creamed corn -- thirty-two bucks all in. Not bad. In the modern barbecue economy, where smoked meat is starting to cost what a decent steak once did, that's a respectable number. The brisket arrived looking the part. Sliced, tender enough, with a decent beefy flavor. But the first bite told a different story. Where you expect the deep campfire soul of smoked meat -- that unmistakable bark, that blackened, peppery crust that whispers of hours in the pit -- there was... nothing. No bark to speak of. No smoke that lingered. If someone had told me it was roast beef pulled from an oven instead of a smoker, I wouldn't have had much evidence to argue otherwise. It wasn't offensive. It just wasn't barbecue. Then came the burnt ends. Now these were the reason to be here. Juicy, tender little cubes of beef with the kind of bark the brisket should have had in the first place -- dark, caramelized, and deeply smoky. The fat rendered just right, the meat pulling apart with that perfect balance of resistance and surrender. Each bite carried the flavor of the pit that the brisket seemed to miss entirely. The regular barbecue sauce was solid -- sweet, balanced, and clearly designed to complement the meat rather than smother it. The vinegar-based sauce, on the other hand, promised Carolina but delivered something closer to pancake syrup. Sweet, thick, and missing the sharp, nose-tickling tang that vinegar sauce is supposed to bring to the party. The poblano creamed corn was good -- comforting, creamy, with a mild pepper warmth -- but it played things a little too safe. One note, pleasant but forgettable. Like a song that never quite reaches a chorus. Still, when you step back and look at the whole tray -- a pound of meat, a side, and change left in your wallet -- the value is hard to argue with. Not every barbecue meal has to be transcendent. Sometimes it just has to be honest. And here's the thing: those burnt ends? They were honest. Next time I walk into Kue'd, I'll know what to do. Burnt ends again, no question. Maybe some pulled pork. And I'll give the baked beans and potato casserole a shot -- because every barbecue place deserves a second look, especially when they've already proven they know how to get at least one thing very, very right.

Best. Customer. Service. Ever!…read more My partner made reservations back in January for Valentine's Day but upon arriving and checking in, his name wasn't on the reservation list. Instead of turning us away, they did everything they could to seat us, despite it being a busy Valentine's Day evening. All the staff were so kind and apologized to us profusely for the inconvenience/situation. We were given such great treatment and on top of everything, 2 free desserts! We were treated with such care and empathy, making the dining experience that much better. We had multiple servers and hosts checking on us constantly to ensure that we were ok. At the end of our meal after we paid, the server came back and provided us with 2 $10 gift cards for when we come back, which we will! I highly recommend Rube's not just for the food, but for the staff! This was the best dining experience I've ever had and will absolutely come back! Thank you Rube's!!

Especially when I got a $55 bacon wrapped Ribeye zero value in the shrimp. But my husband does not eat steak. So the options were Tuna, Pork Chicken Breast or the Shrimp. You cook the meal yourself. For me it was fine. For our friends I think they were a bit concerned about ruining a $50 steak. There should be some cheat sheet. Temp needed for different cooks of Steak or something. I expected a wedge salad. What we got because of our group size was a bowl of salad. The final feed back was about the service. My soda sat empty until the server Deb started picking up plates. Then she arrived and asked for all of us to settle our checks. There were 5 tickets at our table. She took 2 of the checks and credit cards back with her when she delivered the checks. She returned again and said she was trying to resolve an issue with tickets. Stood at the table explaining we had 5 tickets and she had only received 4 of the 5 back. One of the people at our table tried to explained she had already taken two of the tickets in the three she had in her hand, made five. Deb rudely shut him down telling him she knew what she was talking about. She never apologized or addressed her behavior. Mind you all this occurred after we had all tipped her and settled our bills. The service was less than expected for a dinner of $50 person. Customer service was really disappointing.

After 1/2-dozen trips to this store, I no longer bother except to buy Verena St whole coffee beans,…read moreas they're $4-6 cheaper than at HyVee & Target doesn't carry that brand. Today, they're currently on sale at Fareway for $19 (nope, not near the expiration date) & are $25 at HV. They carry a bit of everything, but nothing I really need. Like Aldi's, if you eat canned, frozen, junk, packaged or processed food, you'll find what you need here, but all those items will be cheaper at Target. Selections/brands are also smaller than other outlets. I really came here as people raved about the quality of meat dept. My personal experience is that whenever I buy pricey beef here, it's always dry or smells as if it's about to go bad. Every single time. Now that food is much more expensive, my trip last wk will be my last... $25 steak that had crunchy, dried edges, all around the entire steak. It was gross, Meat quality is better at HyVee, but never buy their on-sale meats which all smell bad. They shouldn't be allowed to sell those, but that's another review. Produce is hit or miss. HV has better quality, usually. I'll still buy coffee beans here. That's all. I may try their newer store in Clive which is 6-mi away... this one is 1/2-mi from me, so that's too bad. 2* out of 5. -2* for poor quality meat & pricey produce -1* for lack of options. I never find what I need here & still have to go to HV or Target.
