Came here only once, so this is based on a single experience. The samosa was pretty average -- it didn't seem freshly fried, although the flavor itself wasn't bad. I believe we also ordered the butter chicken and kadai paneer. Both dishes were much more watery than they should have been. The butter chicken was a bit unusual in color (more yellow than the traditional orange) and lacked the rich, creamy texture I was expecting. The kadai paneer wasn't bad in terms of flavor, but it also had too much liquid and didn't have the consistency I prefer. The portions are definitely generous, though, so you do get a good amount of food for what you order. read more

This place is at the top of my Indian food list. I rarely get over here, but if I do, I try to swing in. I always want to try something new, but I just really love their butter chicken. The sauce is silky and delicious. The rice is always perfectly cooked. You can't go wrong with Naan. Today, I also got some roti to try as I haven't had it here. Where do I start? Craving any Indian food? This place was recommended to me by numerous people and I can see why. I finished my leftovers from there today and I'm debating on ordering more. First off the location is pretty easy to find in the west Des Moines area. We decided to dine-in, and the interior is bright and pleasant. Service was good, we actually got here a minute before they opened but they still seated us which I appreciated. I'm glad we came early though, because lots of people arrived shortly after us. We got the chicken curry as medium spicy and the malai kofta as mild. They were both so good! The malai kofta is a vegetarian dish and was sweet but balanced out. Especially with the garlic naan on the side. If you like some kick getting the chicken curry with medium spice is a great choice to go with. Deliciously tendered chicken that easily melts off. Like some reviews mentioned, best to come in early. I saw lots of good vegetarian options for both main entrees and appetizers. So good options for all friends and family. Persis has been my fiancée and my favorite Indian restaurant in Des Moines for over a year now. The restaurant is small but cozy. Thr staff is friendly and attentive, and the food is beyond delicious. My fiancée is absolutely in love with their Chicken Tikka Masala. It is absolutely flawless. They have ruined her on ordering it from any other Indian restaurant in Des Moines, because she is so fond of their particular version. The chicken is so tender and the sauce is just so hearty and flavorful. She is addicted. I am a bit fan of their Chili Chicken, as well as honestly everything I have ever eaten there. We have literally never once received disappointing food or service from Persis. We live by Drake University, and it is absolutely worth the drive out to Jordan Creek to pick up food from Persis. My orders are always ready early. We have never had even so much as a minor mistake from them in the many times we have had takeout from them. We did eat one one time as well, and the experience was also excellent. Great food, attentive service, and a pleasant evening. There actually were no other dine-in customers, and so we basically had the entire restaurant to ourselves. It made for a nice little romantic dinner for two. We definitely weren't complaining! If you want truly elevated Indian cuisine done perfectly, quickly, and picked up with a smile, you really cannot go wrong with Persis Indian Grill. There was one that claimed to to be "sautéed", but when they brought it out it was deep fried. Explaining the difference to them proved futile. Main entrees are very limited for vegans. But, this place we went to in the middle of a strip mall in Des Moines was the most fantastic experience from start to finish. Appetizers....mango Lassi...breads...biryani...and entrees all were on point. They may have run out of several items that we wanted to order but that was okay since everything we had was fresh piping hot and extremely flavorful. The recommendations they gave for the different dishes were on point! We ate it all and did not even remember to take a pic like normally we would.... You can tell this place was a fan favorite based on the number of people filling the restaurant that was well decorated and clean and also on the volume of takeout orders that were pumping thru that kitchen! It's a breath of fresh air among the endless string of chain restaurants serving bland, over-priced food. We had the Paneer Chettinad Curry and the Chana Masala - both very flavorful.
