Brandon, the owner of Design a Deck Incorporated, was referred to me by a friend for the demolition of my old deck and the installation of my new deck. It was by far the best referral I have ever had in my 65 years on this earth. My wife and I set an appointment and Brandon appeared at my home on time with a booklet of pictures of previous decks that he had designed and built. All of which were beautiful, to say the least. We advised what we had in mind and he made suggestions of which we accepted. Brandon returned several days later with several designs as well as numerous samples of deck material for us to review. He assisted us in picking the design as well as the materials. He immediately measured the dimensions of the proposed deck by hand as well as by computer. At that time, he advised as to the date and time he would return for the demolition of my old deck and the building of my new deck. I advised Brandon that I wanted him to start the construction and not stop the construction until the job was completed, and he promised to do the same. He promptly appeared at the aforesaid date and time was several tradesmen, demolish my old deck, and continued working on my new deck every day, consistently, without interruption until the job was completed. The men that he employed were excellent craftsman who worked 9 to 10 hours a day, only stopping for lunch. I was required by the city where I reside to obtain several permits as well as several inspections conducted by two city inspectors, both of which advised me that the construction was nothing short of excellent, and the construction exceeded the city ordinance requirements. Needless to say, I was nothing less than thoroughly impressed. Over the last two years my wife and I have been remodeling our home from top to bottom, and I had to discharge two general contractors because of their failure to appear on the job when promised, or waiting days with no construction whatsoever while said contractors were working on other job sites. When Brandon completed our deck I had to once again retain his services to complete the remodeling of my home as well as fix bad or improper construction by the previous two contractors. It was nothing short of a nightmare. Once again, Brandon came to the rescue and completed the job that the other two contractors failed to do. I am so impressed with Brandon's designs, construction, as well as the men that he employs, my wife and I asked him to demolish and completely remodel our second kitchen in our home at the end of his "deck season". He has agreed to do the same and we did not ask him for a quote because of my confidence and trust in his excellent service and reasonable prices. Brandon and his crew made getting a new deck very easy and worry-free. We had called/contacted at least 7 companies about re-doing our deck. 4 companies NEVER called us back. 1 company called us back... a month later. Another company called us back a couple days later, but honestly their reviews were a little all over the place, and their price seemed a little too good to be true. Brandon called us back the same day we emailed him. This was back in June - he was honest with us from the outset and let us know that he was booked solid till early November. We weren't in a hurry, and his reviews were good so we scheduled. He got back to us quickly about permits and options for decking materials. Once he and his crew got started, they couldn't have been more efficient. Any issues found during demolition (apparently some areas of our deck weren't up to code) were quickly fixed. They were incredibly friendly (who doesn't love tough construction guys who play with a toddler through a window multiple times a day?) and polite. The only thing that slowed them down was rain. Our new deck is beautiful and solidly built. It made it through its first winter without any issues. We received Brandon's card (owner of Design a Deck) from Schilling Lumber. My husband and I wanted to obtain a few quotes on tearing down part of our existing deck and rebuilding it with a new composite decking material. After meeting with 3 contractors we called Brandon back for a second walk thru of what we were looking to do . Brandon always showed up for our appts on time and was very professional and knowledgeable with what we were looking for. We gave the job to Brandon and his crew. they started in mid November and it took them about 2 weeks. Throughout that 2 weeks we found that the previous deck had not been installed correctly and we had to have some additional things replaced. His crew cleaned up everyday day and were very professional. I even had my neighbors tell me how nice they were while they worked during the day. We went with a Trex railing in black and a Azek PVC decking material. We have a walk out basement so we had Brandon add a cedar ceiling underneath the deck. We had several companies come out and give us estimates for a new deck, as well as removal of the old deck. Design-a-Deck was not the cheapest, but not the most expensive either. Out of all the people I dealt with, I felt like Brandon seemed the most detail oriented and knowledgeable. His design ideas were exactly what I envisioned, and others weren't willing to work with me on certain aspects. When we scheduled our installation, he came as he said they would, and it was done in a very reasonable amount of time. We have a walk out basement, so putting in a deck above the patio is a lot of work, and he worked with our concrete contractor to make sure everything went as planned! Brandon and his team did an awesome job for me. I'm a small business owner with several multi unit properties and it can be difficult to find people that want to work on smaller projects. I needed an @ 12 foot wooden porch/staircase replaced on the side of a 4 unit property I own. Brandon was the first to respond. Provided a detailed quote and summary is scope of work. I spent a little more than I planned, however, I was pleased with Brandon's responsiveness, projected timeline, and scope of work (he handled all Village permits which is a big help). We chose Brandon at Design a Deck to add a deck to our Townhome in Mokena. He worked within the space allowed by our bylaws and put in a cedar deck in the color we chose. The following spring, the deck didn't look good in several spots so Brandon sent his crew to restrain at no charge to us. After much consideration, we realized we didn't like what we chose, so we decided to have it torn off and replaced with composite material.
