Came here on a weekday afternoon for lunch after visiting the Spa & Salon at East Wind downstairs. The restaurant was conveniently located inside the hotel which made it an easy choice for my aunt and I. Everything we ordered was expertly prepared. Their crab cakes (one of the specials that day) were delicious and the chicken burger I ordered was a perfect lunch option. Our waitress was attentive and helpful. Great first experience. The last review I wrote was several years ago at this point so it's worth an update! Still 5 stars. Came for their weekend brunch. It's $40 per person and the assortment, freshness and quantity is so worth it in my opinion. We went around 11:30 am didn't have to wait! My wife and I decided to have dinner there on a Friday to celebrate both our birthdays. We were seated in the bar area, the bar was busy and the room very loud. I believed they had a separate dining room which would have been much better. The room seemed a little dated, could use a remodel. The service was fine and the food was good. The biggest disappointment and complaints are eating in the same room as the bar and the noise level. Will probably not go back. read more

One of the few local places that has a true happy hour! Discounted drinks and bar menu. Tracy at the bar is amazing! Friendly, always attentive and quite the mixologist! They have live music too close to the weekend. Nice size bar. But even if it's packed there's plenty of tables in bar area you can sit at. Love their wood fired pizza! My MIL made last minute Mother's Day reservations for us to have an early supper at Desmonds. She lives nearby and visited previously, giving rave reviews. They're located opposite of the Shops at East Wind. Upon arrival to the restaurant, we found parking right in front and despite all the cars in the lot, they were pretty empty. The host gave us some options as far where we preferred to sit. Unfortunately, all of the window tables were taken so we took one of the tables off to the side in a cozy corner of the dining room. Our experience felt disjointed. For the price we paid on what should have been a special day, it felt very "phoned in". There were four of us dining but we were provided three pre-fixe Mother's Day menus. We were informed on the phone that the only menu available would be the pre-fixe menu, which was $70 per person. It was stated, at the bottom of the menu, that a children's menu would be available from which to order. We sat at the table for what felt like over ten minutes and after seeing multiple other families seated, finally asked the host to please provide a children's menu. She came back and proceeded to explain that they only had the items in the children's section of the menu available. I'm not entirely sure why she felt the need to explain that when we specifically requested the children's menu, but regardless she finally gave it to us. The exchange was very odd. The service also felt odd. We sat there for some time while one server (in black) constantly came by to check on only one of the tables next to us. One server (in burgundy) poured us water and for a long while no one came to take our drink orders or anything else. It wasn't until another family was sat next to us that an entirely different server (in burgundy) came by to take our drink orders. We didn't want to wait longer than needed. We waited a long time for our drinks. They eventually came to our table after drink orders were served to other tables that ordered after us. One thing that irritated the heck out of me was the fact that our appetizers were brought to the pathway, down a few steps, just out of reach of our table, and left there (pics for reference). We watched as people walked past our food. Our server saw them place our order there, confirmed it was for our table, and then he proceeded to leave it in the walkway, while he took the adjacent table's order. Mind you, he hadn't begun taking their order before our food arrived. To make matters worse, our Little's food didn't arrive to the table until after we finished our appetizers, almost an hour after being seated. We requested that it be served with our apps. My kid was hungry and kepted asking for her food. Our server didn't even serve us our apps. Someone else did (one of the servers/bussers that confirmed with the server that the food was for our table, minutes before). I also ended up having to flag down a manager to look into the meal for my daughter. Our bread basket didn't arrive to the table into an hour after sitting, just before our entrées were served. I asked for a new napkin for my kid and none was provided until I flagged down the same manager. We ordered after-dinner drinks and waited a long time for those before being served. All in all, it felt like because they were getting their money from the pre-fixe pricing and included gratuity, the effort of providing excellent service went down the toilet. Everyone was happy with their food for the most part. I had some issues with mine. I ordered their Oysters Rockefeller and did not care for them much. They were flavorful but the execution of the collard greens that made up most of the topping was not good at all. They were undercooked IMO. I've never had collards that crunchy. They should have been cooked for much longer. The serving size is decent but the preparation needs to me tightened up. My entrée was the Scallops with Gnocchi. The scallops were huge and cooked perfectly. They were not overcooked, which I feared. They had a wonderful sear, were naturally sweet and definitely the star of the dish. The gnocchi, however, was bland. It was served in a creamy mushroom sauce but it definitely needed a hit of salt. I tasted some of my hubby's pork tenderloin entrée and the protein was very good, however, the mashed sweet potato with which it was served, was also bland. A sprinkling of a flake salt finisher can do wonders. The chocolate Mousse Cake for dessert was nice and light. I shared that with my Little and she enjoyed it. She also enjoyed her kid's meal, which was a personal pizza. It was a very large serving. I was extremely surprised that she ate the entire thing. That just tells you how famished she was. Maybe they had an early Mother's Day rush of patrons which caused their service to lag towards the end of the day, but that really is not excuse. We dropped a lot of this meal and the service felt severely subpar. I won't return here. read more

Better than expected. Very quiet, we were one of maybe 2 or 3 tables in a rather large restaurant on a Saturday night. The waiter thought the bad weather had something to do with how empty it was. Service was very good. I had a pork chop that was huge, juicy and delicious. My wife had a pasta dish with shrimp and scallops. The pasta tasted fresh and was cooked perfectly; it was in a flavorful broth and just a little spicy. read more

I am not sure what happened to Desmonds since my last review but I hope things get back to the way they were since I wrote my last review. I went to lunch here with my mom and the service was terrible. Our server was very nice but there were only three other tables in our room by the bar, and the dining room only had two tables, so I don't understand why it took so long to be served. We were completely ignored, and it looked like the other tables by us were as well. I think our server may have been the only one on, but the woman behind the bar kept talking to him and distracting him from coming over to us when it was clear we were trying to get his attention. I don't know what the problem was, but we were definitely not a priority for her. Whatever she had to discuss with our server was apparently more important than the tables he was serving. It appeared that maybe this was his supervisor? Whoever she was, she was apparently upset, so he listened to what she had to say instead of taking care of his tables. My mom and I talked about how this was absolutely not fair to him. He had drinks already made on a tray waiting to go out but she just kept talking to him. For a lunch to take almost two hours is crazy to me, especially since it was a Wednesday afternoon and not crowded at all. I asked for a second glass of wine to have with my lunch and it didn't come until I was done with my lunch. I would have told our server to forget it and take it off the bill, but again, I don't think it was his fault. I am always one to say to let the management know at the time there is a problem, but it just didn't seem like anyone was there or cared to listen. I am sad that this is what this restaurant has become, but I am hoping things get back to the way they were before. The food was good, so at least they had that going for them. I have been here twice now - my late lunch/early dinner experience was good. My dinner experience was not so great. Both times I ate here, I enjoyed the food. They have a small but standard menu with a nice typical selection of meat and fish dishes. Most recently I had the salmon which was enjoyable and a good sized portion. The service here is the reason for the 2-star review. My last visit here was as a part of a package offered by the hotel. There is a huge lack of communication between the different branches of the facility, so we were not given the correct price fix menu we were supposed to get. There was also a miscommunication when it came to a food allergy due to the careless service. In summary, good food, and room to improve the service. (Maybe there are better times to go than others since it was off season.) read more

7/6/22 The Wednesday after Fourth of July holiday. We decided to revisit Desmonds after a long while. We called and made a reservation for 8 o'clock and when we arrived we were surprised to see that they had a few tables sitting on the veranda but the restaurant itself was deserted. We opted to order from the price fixed menu. There are many choices, you get an appetizer and entrée and the chefs choice of dessert for $34.95. I opted for the mussels that were served in a lovely broth and for my entrée I chose the shrimp in a creamy garlic sauce. The garlic sauce that was served over fettuccine and was nicely balanced but I must say the shrimp lacked flavor. Hubby ordered the baked clams and the chicken Sorrentino that was served with pasta and broccoli rabe. he found that the chicken was a bit dry but all in all the dish worked. It was later in the evening and the kitchen did rise to the occasion as it was very quiet this evening. Our server Santos was very attentive and professional. read more

Desmond's was part of the spa package and I ate there for lunch. Service was great. I got a coke to drink and a turkey club sandwich for lunch. It comes with a salad which was yummy. Ask for an additional side dressing if you want more. That's what I did. Highly recommend and they have great alcoholic drinks as well (included with drink voucher with spa package!) My husband and I thought we would go out for a nice dinner - but were immediately suspicious of the swollen tile in the cheap drop ceiling. Before we ordered, the ceiling began POURING water, my husband got soaked. I jumped up to tell the hostess, who chuckled, moved us and told us "the restaurant is getting torn down and redone". Little consolation for us at the moment. Then the waiter comes. We ask about draft beer and he says there a Montauk on tap. We ask which one... he doesn't know. "The IPA". Well, it matters! He finally remembers "wave chaser", so we order 2. He comes back with what is clearly (beer folks can relate) Stella. He first insists they are we've chasers. We send them back. We get the wave chasers. Food was adequate at best. Note to the "chef": Garlic doesn't hide everything. We get the bill.... A tip? Here's your tip: don't chuckle when the ceiling poured on us and my husband was soaked. Don't tip us off before we ordered that this shit hole is being torn down. And don't serve us crap beer and think we don't know. We know. We ask to speak to a manager and it's the hostess who laughed at us for saying the ceiling is leaking. No doubt the restaurant is being torn down. Hope neither of you are asked back when it resurfaces. read more

First, let me say that its truly a sad moment when I have to give a one star/negative review to a restaurant, as I know how much that influences their business. I went to Desmond's a few nights ago with family, and the service was absolutely terrible, the food was under cooked (we ordered the personal pizzas) which were severely undercooked, and we're as floppy as it can get) the music was OK but nothing special. My drinks were also terrible, I received my drink with no juice almost (I ordered a vodka cranberry) and the drink wasn't even made by the bartender, but by the server, which was very disappointing. My entire table also got their drinks really late and their drinks were made similarly to mine, too much alcohol and too little juice, not enjoyable at all. On top of all of that, we waited for 90 minutes on the table before anyone approached us to take our order and quite frankly, we should've left and not even bother, but we were hungry after a long day at work so we stayed. One more thing to add about the food, the food took over one hour to prepare, and it came out super late also. I will never be coming back to Desmond, and if I could give them zero stars, then I would. I hate to say this, but I definitely recommend you check out other places in the area that are much better than this. Don't waste your money!!! read more

Stayed at East Wind and received voucher for $70 to Desmond's. Don't understand why I needed a reservation since there were only a handful of people in the restaurant. We found the onion soup to be amazing as well as our entrees. The only negative was the tasteless garlic knots and lack of staff. Great food - would come back HOWEVER- it was a poor choice to come back for the breakfast buffet. To be totally upfront, the omelettes were great as well as the bagels. Oh, my Bloody Mary was amazing! The rest pretty much subpar. The bacon was tasteless and dry- the waffles and pancakes looked like it's been there a while. The peel and eat shrimp were not fresh as well as the seafood salad. The ham was so dry too! I don't understand and as embarrassed since my wife wanted to go somewhere else. The banana pie was frozen inside too! To pay $39 per person plus a tip is way over the top for such an uninviting experience. read more

I ate here for lunch and dinner this weekend during a weekend spa getaway with my boyfriend. For lunch, I ordered the penne a la vodka. It was a large size; totally worth the $17 price. Very tasty! My boyfriend ordered the caesar salad and said it was very good. Where things get even better is the dinner. I know a good steak when I see one, and I know an even better sauce when I taste one. I noticed they offered filet mignon with peppercorn and strip steak with red wine reduction sauce. I opted for the filet but changed the peppercorn to the red wine reduction sauce. Let me just say, that steak is one of the best steaks I've ever had, along with the sauce. I have never tasted something so good. It was so good that I had to cut my steak in ridiculously small slices to savor it. The steak cut like butter. Rich, perfectly medium rare and tasty are three perfect words to describe my dinner. For the record, my boyfriend ordered the filet with peppercorn and loved it, but I think my option was the best option! For dessert, I had chocolate ice cream while he ordered the chocolate cake. The e ice cream was outstanding!!!!! Not too hard, not too soft, just right! I don't know what it is about this place, but whatever they're doing, they're doing it right!! I will absolutely be back. My friends and I love this place! It's our very own "Cheers"! We meet weekly for their amazing happy hour and delicious food. We love seeing our hometown friends and meeting new people staying at the hotel for events. Chloe is an awesome bartender, her cocktail creations never disappoint. The servers are all so friendly and accommodating. We wanted to move our table and they were so helpful. Get the pizza! So delish, and the Desmond Salad with chicken. Huge portions ! Buyer Beware!!! We have been a frequent customer of Desmond's and The East Wind for years. Celebrating different occasions at Desmond's, their Santa Brunch, the East Wind Easter Brunch, the Spa, etc. This year was no different, and made reservations for their Santa Brunch. They make you pay up front in full when you make the reservations including taxes and "gratuities". What they don't tell you over the phone is that is was non-refundable. After paying $500 upfront, of course the goal would be to attend. We always do and we always love their Santa brunch. However this year, more than half our party tested positive for COVID. I called the restaurant first thing in the morning (it was only the night before when we felt sick) and the female manager that answered the phone was so nasty about the entire situation. She could care less about that we had COVID. She just said no refunds and hung up. The next day I called, spoke to a different manager, John who was at least understanding of the situation tried to help, but according to him the owner did not want to offer another solution. They only offered for us to attend the next weekend, but our whole party was still sick and the rest of our family ended up getting sick and not outside the 5 day quarantine. Not to mention I live 3 hours away and couldn't get there. They did not want to work with me for any other solution. They just took my $500. I work in the restaurant industry, I understand the beating that the pandemic has caused. But to not offer any other solution and try to keep $500 which included "gratuities"...gratuities for what? No one waited on us! Just awful customer service and not a care. It's not like we were cancelling because of weather. It was COVID! People are required to stay home and quarantine. Really enjoyed the food and service here. Great attention to detail. Bloody mary(or mimosa) included in meal was freshly made. The choices were endless. Loved that for your omlet you put your selections in a bowl. Like i love tomatoes, so lots of tomatoes, and a little onion. The "other" hot and cold options were so numerous. Next time gonna skip the omlet and try more of the other goodies. Literally could've made a meal of the desserts. They had everything. And everything i had was delicious. Came here yesterday for Mother's Day Brunch. At $60/pp it was a little bit on the pricey side but the amount of food is insane. The buffet had everything from omelettes made to order, regular breakfast foods, salads, carving stations, multiple dessert tables, it was crazy. Everything was delicious. You get a drink ticket for 1 free alcoholic drink, a mimosa or Bloody Mary, as a lover of Bloody Mary's, I would say to get the mimosa. The Mary was just regular bottled mix and I find those to be disgusting after tasting real ones. Service was great, our waiter was Jose and he was extremely nice and helpful. I don't know if it worth the price tag since, who can really eat $60 worth of food, but my mother enjoyed it which is rare. read more

Beware My wife and I had a wedding at east wind and for the next day we wanted to have a breakfast at Desmond's which was at the reception venue. We made arrangements in person and said we would have people from the wedding coming, it was to be 15 to 20 people. There was a 200 deposit. well, here is where you need to be aware. We were charged for 25 when we only had 15. I disputed the charge and they said there was a minimum of 25 but they charged 20. This would have been nice if it was explained this way when reservation was made. This was a buffet setup anyway for all the customers. The only different was a table setup for 15 by the Buffet table. The representative basically called me and my new wife liars. The food was just bacon,scambled eggs, pancakes basic breakfast. If we had known this, we would have had our guests just check in and I would have paid the bill then. read more

It is really not badly priced at all. They have some things on the menu that are bit expensive, but for the most part its reasonable. Atmosphere -The restaurant itself is very nice and of course it is located in this big beautiful estate. It is a great place to go for a special event, especially if you want photo opportunities before or after. Customer Service -Our waitress was nice, albit overworked and kind of forgetful. I think they need to put more people on. Food -It was somewhere between casual and fine dining. I love the EastWind, had our wedding there but I think even though the bar area is attached to the dining area of Desmond's, it a completely different menu. I had the chicken burger at the bar one night and it was delicious, could have eaten two but the dining room was a different kind of chicken. My wife and I ordered the mussels in white sauce for appetizer along with the seared scallops, they were very good. We then both ordered the half chicken with asparagus over a polenta I believe. My wife enjoyed her dish but I had some issues with my half chicken. First, it didn't look like a half chicken, it was a flattened piece of chicken connected by a bone or cartilage. I had to at least five times take the piece I was trying to chew out of my mouth and discard it politely, good thing we are already married because if I had to do that on a date it would have been embarrassing to say the least and also disgusting to do in front of anyone. I hate when to bite into hard cartilage or fatty type of material. Didn't make sense why there was so much of It on my piece of food, it really annoyed me and ruined my hunger for the night. The price was decent for two, actually my wife and I ordered one glass of Cabernet each and that alone was $24. Our final bill was about $116, so minus the wine your talking not too bad for two appetizers and two main courses. Anyway, they had a few other menu items we could have tried instead of the chicken that looked pretty good but not sure we will go back, too many other nice places to try first. My heart is so full right now... We had reservations for the Thanksgiving buffet and I was feeling terribly nauseous when it was time to go. But I didn't want to ruin it! So my fiancé, sons and I went, checked in and sat down. I couldn't eat. I tried but by this point I was ill. I would never ask for anything to go from a buffet but I told my waiter I was feeling very sick and could I possibly bring a meal to eat later when I felt better. I didn't catch his name but now I wish I had... He asked his manager and she said yes, and he asked me what I would like. I just told him a couple of things. Fast forward a couple of hours and I open the bag- and I'm blown away! This man packed me the most beautiful Thanksgiving feast. I was famished so I forgot to take a picture but I did take one of the desserts. He made my whole day. I was pretty sad to feel so sick but this made it all better. I came here twice this month after visiting the spa in the East Wind. I was pleased with my order both times. On my first visit I did the 3 course prix fixe. The onion soup was so good, and was a generous size. I had the steak for my main which was pretty good as well and the gelato for the dessert. Definitely felt is was a good value for the price. On my second visit I shared the fried calamari for an appetizer and got the grilled shrimp wrap for my main. Both were very good. read more
