After dinner one night, we walked around downtown Bethesda and happened upon Henry's Sweet Retreat…read more Luckily, we saved room for dessert, and Henry's hit the spot. We got a blueberry pop tart, and some raspberry scones, along with a chocolate covered vanilla cupcake. Yummy! The only problem is that Henry's is not just a dessert bakery - the store may appear tiny on the outside, but it's huge on the inside. In addition to the bakery, they got all kinds of candy and other goodies for sale. I gotta stop back in another day and try all the other good stuff inside. Plus, you can tell from the Rick Astley-inspired sign outside, Henry's has a great sense of humor. This is exactly what small business brings to the neighborhood. Stop by and visit Henry's Sweet Retreat - you'll be glad you did!

Had dinner at a diner down the street. Looked up dessert near me and this place came up. NOT…read moredisappointed! We had brownies, sundaes, milkshake, cupcake and coffee. All of it was DELICIOUS! The small sundaes were huge! Kids could not finish them and at $7ish each hard to beat for the quality! I had an eggnog cupcake. I was not sure it would be good but whatever magic y'all put in it worked great together! The frosting was light and fluffy not too sweet not too bland. And the cake was moist, not crumbly, not heavy just perfect! Had a latte with soymilk because my belly does not care for milk in coffee. Local coffee company supplies the beans. They also have pretty much any kind of candy, pies, and sweets you might need and apparently they cater! Stop in you will not regret it...unless you do not like sweets and then I am sorry.

Levain Bakery is rightfully famous for its massive cookies, although it is quite pricey…read more There was a constant flow of customers, so it was a bit difficult to choose from the beautiful display of desserts. There were a few seasonal items that captured a spring aesthetic. Everything was packed well and we were out quickly. *Carrot Cake: one of their seasonal offerings and my favorite of the bunch. It was not the moistest cookie, but it tasted the most balanced. There was a subtle sweetness, although I would have loved to see more elements of a traditional carrot cake highlighted, such as raisins or warm spices. *Cherry Scone: reflective of the fleeting cherry blossom season. My party was split on the texture, with some disliking how dense and heavy it tasted. I personally did not find it dry or overly crumbly. The cherry flavor was light, and it colored the dough nicely and paired well with a darker beverage. *Caramel Coconut Chocolate Chip: subtle coconut shavings with barely noticeable caramel. The chocolate chips were by far the most dominant ingredient and flavor. Apparently one of their classic flavors, but it was my least favorite. I was actually more impressed by their seasonal offerings, which is disappointing since those rotate out. Their classics are popular for a reason, but they do not feel refined enough to justify the pricing compared to other bakeries. I would not mind splitting a cookie with a friend, although I would not go out of my way for one.

I finally got to try Levain Bakery! It is a small shop, and it could be crowded. The service was…read morenice. I had to order the chocolate chip and walnut cookie and coffee sour cream loaf. My cookie was not served warm so I waited till home. Cookie is nice and big, definitely good....but it is not exceptional enough, especially for the price of $6. Coffee sour cream loaf was also good. Again nothing so special, but satisfying. Overall, it is a good bakery for sure....little overpriced and overhyped. If I was in the area, I would try them again....but I would not go out of my way.

While I was tempted by these silver dollar-sized beauties of varying alluring colors, I couldn't keep my eyes of their Passion Fruit tart. I thought the tag must've been wrong since it was covered in raspberries, but when I looked closely at the description, it mentioned that it had a passionfruit crème filling. I gave in to temptation, but there was no evil. Maybe 1000 calories, but who's counting. It was worth every one thousand pennies! I deserved it. I'm a great dog mamma. I also purchased the salted chocolate chip cookie for my tea another day and a croissant for breakfast tomorrow. I will not shy away from Ladurée any longer. Au revoir until another day.

They had macarons, croissants, cookies, and a mini baked creations. It was really hard to decide on what to order? I ended up with a chocolate croissant and a strawberry Madeline. The inside of the bakery is as beautifully designed as the window display. It would be a really nice place to meet a friend for a beverage and a sweet. Service was great. A special shout out to the young woman behind the counter. I am so sorry, I do not know her name. By accident, I left my credit card there and didn't realize it. When, I figured out where I Iost my card, I called and she held onto it for me, until I could get back to there. She was so sweet and so honest. Thank you! Now, to the baked goods. The croissant was buttery and light and flaky. But, it did not have enough chocolate. There was a small amount in the center, but it really needed more. The strawberry Madeline was worthy of a gold medal. It was sweet, but not too sweet. The cookie/cake melted in your mouth. The strawberry was amazing and delicious. I just savored every bite. I would go back, just for that pastry. It is a little pricey, but you are in Bethesda. My two pastries were a little over $10 dollars. I did enjoy them. So, beautiful bakery, helpful and honest employees, delicious baked goods....I will definitely be back.
