This is an incredible restaurant! We are in Merced for our son's wedding and stopped in Destino's for a pizza. However, we stayed in and ordered full dinners, which were delicious. I got the shrimp linguine with the white sauce- A MUST have! My husband got the chicken parmesan and loved it! We also got the wedge salad, which is enough for two people! I'm glad we shared it. Aside from the fabulous food, the service was outstanding!!! Stephanie was our server, and she delivered outstanding service. She is knowledgeable, friendly, and committed to delivering top notch service! We noticed her interactions with every table and bar customer she had and she never lost a step. Ordered to go last week was craving my favorite sausage and zucchini soup. OMG I was so disappointed when I got home ready for a treat and instead of the thick well seasoned and simmered broth it was beef bullion with zucchini. This was our first time trying Destinos since moving to Merced. We started with the coconut shrimp for our appetizer and it was delicious. My wife and I shared a pizza ( one size 12 inch) pepperoni and jalapenos on one half and combo on the other. The pizza was very tasty and the crust was crunchy and buttery. It wasn't even greasy like at some other pizza establishments. The service was very good as well. Our servor was very attentive and kind. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because of the lighting lol. Lighting you ask? Their lights around the dining tables are bright florescent I think. You dont get that cozy ambience . Felt like I was eating great food at work lol. Change the lighting and you have a top of the line restaurant in the valley. I recommend this place. read more

I ordered one of their chicken baked pastas. When i got it looked like it was going to be good. But once i started eating it agter two bites i had to stop. It had a bitter taste either the spanish or the pasta had a very bitter taste. I had to send it back. They offered to bring me another dish. But i just couldn't after i lost my appetite with the bitter taste lingering. My friend ordered the spagetty and meatballs. She said it was ok nothing special. She felt like it was like hunts spaghetti sauce. For the price of the dishes i would of hoped for better food atleast their spaghetti. read more

My wife and I stopped in Merced to spend the night on our way from San Diego to Redding. The front desk guy at our hotel recommended 3 different places and we chose Destino's. He said we need to try the Sausage/Zucchini soup so I ordered a cup... it was delicious! It was obviously home made. The flavors were great. Not too salty (!) and hearty... As I read up on the place, their pastas are made in house, soups and sauces all made in house. In our sysco society it is a pleasure to find a restaurant that takes pride in actually preparing food for their guests to enjoy, which we did. I also had the chicken parm and my wife had the rigatoni. Both of which were wonderful. The waiter was friendly and consistent. A lively atmosphere on a Saturday night, it's located in the heart of Merced on the main street which allowed us to visit the lovely downtown. We heard a lot of good things about this place but we will most likely not be going back. The location and environment is pretty nice (we went at night). It is a little crowded in there but it was okay. Our appetizer was amazing and its one of the reasons I gave this place 3 stars and not 2. We ordered the meatball sliders and they were delicious. I highly recommend them! I also recommend ordering some desert. The gelato was very delicious. We ordered the mint chip flavor but they let you sample the other flavors as well and they were all very good. Also, the service is pretty great! What we really had an issue with was our main entrees. I ordered the shrimp scampi (without white sauce) and it was so dry. This may have been because I didn't get the white sauce but it was ridiculously dry. There was more pasta than there was shrimp and it didn't have that lemony flavor I love so much in shrimp scampi. I was pretty disappointed. I thought that maybe I just messed up since I didn't get white sauce but my boyfriend ordered the lasagna and it was even more dull looking, bland, greasy, and just plain awful. I didn't even know it was lasagna until he told me. It all ended up being around $62 and it was not worth it at all. Strings is a much better alternative to Destino's if we are just looking at the entrees. read more

Had the lunch combo meatball sub and clam chowder. The portion was the smallest I've ever had after paying $11 for a sandwich. The bread was burned on top and maybe 3-4 inches long. I was upset there were only 2 small meatballs in the entire sandwich when I realized my mistake. There was only one meatball cut in half. What a disappointment. My coworkers all said I should have taken the child portion they gave me back, but with a short lunch it wasn't possible. The clam chowder was a small container to boot and they only filled it slightly over half. Both were good but only had a few bites to enjoy. Food was to go so not sure about service. The sandwiches have not changed since the name change from Pinnochios. Service was good. However, we ordered a new dessert, creme brûlée. While the top should have been sprinkled with sugar and torched to crisp, salt was added instead of sugar which totally ruined the dessert. Even the custard was not creamy. It was liquid. They remade it, but it was still terrible and they refused to remove the charge for an inedible dessert. I may go back, but will never order dessert again. read more

We went to dine it they got us a table fast and they were very nice but, they were to busy cracking jokes and asking whether you wanted to sleep or stay up. When they should have been worried about their service. The guy waiter is busy flirting with the girls than checking on his tables. The food came fast and we did not wait long but, maybe it needed more time the sauce was not good for a high end restaurant I could have made better at home. The garlic bread came burnt and on top of everything there was multiple hairs in my food which didn't give me much of an appetite. This over priced food wasn't living up to its price they didn't deserve a tip or our service. The waiter check on us twice we asked for napkins and he gave us only 4 napkins one for each of us. It was our first time going and it was a bad experience we will not be going back. First time visiting Merced and really wanted to make it special so I chose this place. The services was pretty bad, the server said he was the cook but since they were short staffed they had him serving tables???? I witness a family of 3 walk out after no one greeted them. I should have followed. They forgot our order, 20 mins after we ordered, our server came back to let us know our pizza was on its way, right after him, someone else came out to let us know they were short on toppings so they needed me to change the order, meaning the pizza was not even started,... the main take away was that other than the cook/server apologizing for not be trained to serve, the lack of care for the guest made this place terrible and put a damper on my evening, unfortunately I do not recommend this place nor will I be going back... read more
