I booked a facial the same day, or at least very close to it, and when I arrived I felt a little thrown off right away. I walked into the lobby and no one greeted me or directed me anywhere. There was not a clear seating area in the front, so I just kind of stood there not really sure what I was supposed to do. The place did smell nice and the background noise was calming, but that was about the only soothing part of the experience. Someone eventually handed me a fizzy orange drink and then took me to a very large room that honestly looked set up for multiple facials at once. It immediately made the service feel less private and less "spa like." The facial itself was extremely basic compared to what I expected for the price. On top of that, someone actually came into the room in the middle of my service, which broke the whole relaxing vibe. For what I paid, I really expected a lot more in terms of customer service, privacy, and overall experience. If the service had been priced lower, some of it might have been easier to accept, but even then, having someone walk into the room during a spa service is a pretty big no for me in any setting. read more

This place was way too expensive for the quality of massage that my husband and I received. I booked a couples massage for us for our anniversary, and although his massage therapist was asking all the right questions before and during the massage, he still left wondering if she was new. He said he felt like she was just winging it the whole time, and didn't know what she was doing. Like, poking around and just digging in his skin. My massage therapist didn't talk to me at all. In fact, I had to ask her to massage harder at one point. She also had a tendency to stay in the same spot longer than normal. She barely massaged my arms and hands. When she did do my hands, she didn't even do my fingers. Same with the feet and toes! I know that may sound petty. But when you pay a certain amount of money for a massage, fingers and toes matter! The facility was nice. They had water, tea, light snacks, slippers, robes, and a comfy waiting area. We would have had a better time just sitting and hanging out in their waiting area in our slippers and robes. We actually had a good time enjoying each other's company and snacking, we were actually bummed when they called us in for the massages haha! The therapist assigned to me spent a lot of time time away from the table, and the one assigned to my husband spent most of the time aggressively rubbing oil on his skin, and at the end of the "massage" stayed in the room to tell us how she took care of his tension and knots so he feels better now. No. No he did not feel better. The therapist was not skilled, inexperienced, and/or did not want to work that day. Also, this was the first massage for both of us where we were not offered any water after the massage which only takes a few moments to do. Another failure. Long over due review! Casa Munras is one of our favorite properties because it is central and allows us to bring our dog. During this trip we explored more of the hotel's amenities and thankfully massages were on the to do list. My husband and i had a couples massage with Cini and Anthony. As regular massage clients I was expecting to be on and shuffled off as some property spas do. Thankfully not the case at desire, from reception/check-in being easy and friendly, to enjoying the slow exit after the massage. It was a great experience. Cini provided the BEST deep tissue massage I've ever had. Really worked out knots and made sure the circulation was flowing. I also had a stomach massage add on and it was spectacular. Cini's skills and quiet energy were very relaxing and comforting. Anthony worked in my husband, which was hilarious for me. He usually books with a female therapist. After his massage I checked in with him and he said about 5 min. Into his massage he was trying not to fall asleep! He was completely relaxed and felt comfortable. His favorite part about the massage was that Anthony could target specific knots in my husband's muscles. He even walked out saying he could go to another male therapist. Avoid. $500+ for a couples massage... only 50 min for starters. ZERO privacy. Front door leads down a single hallway with doors to the right that lead into the men's, woman's and treatment areas. The lounge is a part of the hallway. So essentially you're sitting there naked in a robe in a hallway with the front door close by. The bathroom/changing area had a frosted glass door... I'm sorry but you can literally see the toilet. Anyone wanting to use the restroom is visible to anyone in the tiny area. The showers were the same! Frosted glass doors with NO LOCKING DOORS and a spotlight above the shower. So if someone didn't know you were in there, the door would fly open. Unreal. No changing rooms, they expect you to be comfortable doing it in front of other guests and workers. Door was never closed to the entrance. I had to shower and change in the larger shower, no where to put your things. Only 1 vanity area, if it is being used you must wait. Towels smelled really bad. As for my massage... probably one of the worst I have ever received. I felt uncomfortable the entire time. I am a trained massage therapist and this older man was NOT a masseuse. If my dear husband hadn't booked this couples experience, I would have ended it after 5 minutes. No rhythm, no deep tissue that we paid for, no pressure.... He kept covering and uncovering areas without warning. At one point I was half exposed just laying there. If I wasn't wearing underwear he would have seen everything. He had zero draping experience or simply didn't care. I can't even put into words how uncomfortable I was. He couldn't hear me when I spoke. Talked so close to my face, very breathy.............. smelly breath. He put so much oil on my legs, rubbed it around and that was it. I still don't understand what happened and how this place gets away with charging so much. We have been to so many spas, this one is the worst to date. My husband and I got a 50 minute couples massage (he got Swedish and I got a prenatal). The facility was clean, welcoming, and tranquil. The front desk attendant was polite and welcoming. She gave us a tour of the space and check-in was easy. Nice water pressure in the showers! The lounge area was nice too with lots of cushions, chairs, and lounge beds, with offerings of tea, water, and light snacks. My prenatal massage was WONDERFUL! Alma was my massage therapist and she asked of any areas I would like for her to concentrate on and she delivered! She worked the knots and stress out of my upper back with good pressure. I was able to lay on my stomach with a special prenatal pillow with a hole in the middle to accommodate the pregnant belly. I left my service so so relaxed... thank you! The last time I came it was a different name and had access to their hot tub, not sure if this is still the case. This visit entailed a massage and facial. I wish I could leave zero reviews for this place. The website post that you will be treated like royalty. I was treated far from that after asking to speak to a supervisor. The girl told me she's in charge, the same girl, who I heard talking about me to the other receptionist, I confronted her about it and told her that sound travels and it was quite loud during my Bodywork session but hearing them explicitly talking about me and laughing was the final straw. My husband had treated me to 100 minute massage which was far from spa worthy. Being a massage therapist myself I know quality from someone who is tired and not wanting to be there. I understand that but when spending almost $350 I'll feel like my therapist should want to be there especially considering that a 20% tip was automatically added to the service. Upon asking the so-called girl in charge for the supervisors contact info she wrote down a fake email and phone number and after waiting almost a week for a contact from the spa I have received nothing. I'm honestly shocked at this behavior on top of everything this was far from a top-notch spa they boast to use the highest quality products. That is clearly not the case as they use herbal essences for shampoo in the shower, and the towels at the hotel were far nicer than the ratty towels that were placed out in the women's locker room. This was a horrible experience and I really don't wish that anyone waste their money here. I've been to the LA location and it was nothing like this. read more

I came in for a Hydrafacial since I've been wanting to try it out. Unfortunately, the machines were down but my esthetician, Lysset was able to compensate by switching to microdermabrasion facial with a complimentary oxygen therapy. After my session with her she gave me good pointers on which things I should use for my face and what kind of ingredients would be best for my skin. Along with the facial, I had a foot massage for the tail end of my appointment. A day at this spa was a day not wasted! I will be be back soon. Thank you! read more

I've been to Desuar Monterey several times and enjoyed each visit. It's a small spa that offers a variety of services though I've only visited for 50 min message sessions. Each masseuse I've had is attentive, listens to requests and is skilled in body work. I've requested everything from medium to light pressure and they always listen. The space is clean and they have their own line of shampoos, soap, and moisturizer for use in the changing area. They provide a robe and rubber slippers for comfort when walking in the spa and showering. There is a refreshment area for water, snacks and they offer a Bellini. I find the prices to be really reasonable for the quality you get. As mentioned this is a small spa so there is no hot tub but they may provide access to the hotel pool across the parking area. read more

Overall, a good spa. The intake process is a bit clumsy, but the therapist was good which is all that really matters. My wife and I enjoyed our sessions and felt our therapists heard, understood, and addressed our concerns. I have two bulged and one herniated disc. My fiancé and I came for a relaxing couple massage and a facial. Our facial was good. But I got so disappointed with my massage. This was a couple massage and my masseuse seemed very pre occupied and needed to finished before the time was up. And fact she finished earlier while my fiancé still enjoyed his massage. So, this is my second time here. The first time I wrote an immaculate review and this one is no different. I had a deep tissue massage last time and this time I went for the traditional Swedish massage but went from a 50 minute to an 80 minute massage. My god, what did I get myself into? The deep tissue massage I had before was a rough massage designed to fix my problems and I feel 20 years younger from it but this Swedish massage was ridiculously comfortable! I can't eve begin to comprehend how Cini (I specially requested her after my first visit) can draw so much power from her hands and then have hands so soft and soothing that I was questioning reality as I have not felt this relaxed in decades! It's something I can't explain. I come from a really tough background and also work in the construction field. These massages are a hidden gem of emotional euphoria for me. You read about spa's, they advertise a lot of things and I am happy that I settled my feet here. As for my masseuse Cini, she has this very direct, attemtitive manner about her that initially threw me off. I'm not used to being spoiled or pampered, I'm a man from a tough guy walk of life. I felt very comfortable letting my guard down and answering her questions about pains, problem areas and she just went to work. Cini has some sort of magic in her hands. She immediately finds my comfortable pressure, responds to my body movements and adjusts accordingly. I think she's a mind reader. I didn't have to say much about the massage at all. I just let her work her magic and wow! I was gonna write this review right after the massage but I could barely get out of the bed! I'm just not used to feeling so comfortable and relaxed that it felt as if the warm bed had it's hands on me telling me to stay for just one more minute. I somehow drove home and sat on my bed and then I woke up drooling from the mouth I have sleeping issues and this knocked me out like a Mike Tyson uppercut. I will be back. read more
