I should have reviewed this place earlier, because it's been more than a year. But I'm searching for a salon now and it reminds me how much I rely on reviews. So I figure I'll share my experience. I went here for the Korean straight perm. I've had it done before and know what it SHOULD look like. She just missed random pieces. I had a couple of stripes of curls mixed in. It was also stick straight in a way the prior times weren't- not just straight, but limp and lifeless. i know that it's supposed to give straight hair results, but... it was just different from what I've had before. By different, I mean worse. And then the haircut. Oh, the haircut. Maybe a blind squirrel chewing the edge of a hedge would admire this haircut, but no one else. It was crazy how uneven the back was, and zero layers. I went and paid for another cut at a different salon as soon as I could. So- won't be going back. And I miss California for their Korean hair salons! Anyone have a legitimately good rec in Austin? read more

I love coming here to getting my hair taken care of when it comes to Japanese hair straightening. It was my second time coming here after my first retouch (April 2024) after my first ever treatment (at a salon in Houston, May 2023). They recommend coming back every 6 months for touch-ups but I managed to come back after 8, even though my hair definitely was in need of a trim at that point! Tammy and co. are super professional and attentive to all details of the straightening process. The process itself is long (~4 hours) but they help make the time go by with their efficiency! I was also able to get complimentary coffee, water, and chocolate throughout my session to stay awake. After my session, I was gifted with a holiday cup with treats! Yesterday I decided at the last minute to get my armpits waxed. My under fur was wild and annoying and i needed it gone! Luckily, I went to Detammy where I had such an amazing experience. Wow! I went in asking if they could cut my hair as a walk-in. I had my baby in a stroller. He was awake and quiet, no fuss at all. There was only one other customer in the salon being tended to by another. The stylist at the front desk said she could take me but questioned if I really had an hour because my child was with me. I was delighted when I came across Tammy's Yelp when I was searching for a stylist/salon that offers the Japanese permanent hair straightening treatment because I noticed there wasn't a lot that offers this in the Seattle area. I found her email on her website (which is also listed on her Yelp) and she was able to book me an appointment that same week so I was very appreciative and excited. This was my first ever time getting this treatment done and Tammy was so sweet and attentive throughout the whole process. Anytime she did or used anything on my hair, she would educate me and was so knowledgeable and helpful whenever I asked her questions (and I asked a lot). She also made sure I was comfortable and would ask in between if I wanted snacks, water, or even if I needed to use the restroom. I mainly got this treatment done versus other treatments (i.e. Brazilian blowout, keratin treatment, etc) because I wanted something permanent. Tammy also recommends this since it's definitely more cost-efficient since the other treatments don't last so why wouldn't you something more permanent if you're going to spend the money? Moving on to my actual hair, I LOVE IT! I wanted to wait until after I washed my hair before I write this review because once you get this treatment done, you can't wash your hair for the next 2 days. Again, I LOVE MY HAIR. Another reason why I wanted to get this treatment done is to treat my frizzy and coarse hair so that it'll be smooth and silky. My hair is so much more manageable now and I don't dread it becoming a frizz ball every time I wash it. I definitely will be returning to Tammy again once my hair grows out and recommend her to anyone who wants to get the Japanese permanent hair straightening treatment. Make sure you ask up front how much they are going to charge you for a wash and a blow dry. I was charged $75 for a wash and a blow dry - I never would have gone through with it if I'd known that up front. i live in DC and pay $55. I called back the next day to ask why I was charged $75 and the woman who answered the phone said it was because I have highlights, that my hair tangled and my hair was thick. I've been getting my hair blown out for 35 yrs and have never been given those reasons. They also only offer Biolage products to wash you hair with. I actually told the woman who washed my hair up front that Biolage doesn't work well with my hair up front and asked if there was another product she could wash & condition my hair with and was told no. she quickly said we can use a deep conditioner on your hair instead but didn't offer up the information that I would be charged for said deep conditioner. it was only when I asked that she said oh yes you'll be charged. long story short, ask what everything is going to cost before you get in the chair. other than that they were very nice and it's a clean, well maintained salon. read more

Tammy was very professional and spent a lot of time on my hair and explaining the process. She made sure I was comfortable and offered snacks/beverages during the 4 hours I was there. Unfortunately my Japanese straightening treatment did not have the immediate results that I was hoping for. After washing my hair on the 2nd day it still remains curly/wavy. I noticed after using the products she recommended my hair felt softer and after blow drying it seemed a little more straight but for the time and money being spent on this treatment I expected my hair to be straighter and smoother and with less frizz, however the next morning I was able to flat iron my hair in less than 30 minutes on a low temperature setting of 300 degrees. My hair actually turned out pretty straight and with using the humidity/heat protector Tammy recommended. Overall i would rate this experience good. read more
