I regret not researching Detroit Tubs LLC before hiring them to reglaze my bathtub. Extremely unprofessional owner whose method of communication is cussing at and belittling his customers. He sends out workers lacking the skills to do a quality job, then when you complain and want the tub fixed, he claims that you signed his completion certificate. I was told that I was being "unreasonable" and "unfair" in my expectations, and after reading other people's reviews I discovered that these are common excuses he uses to justify his crappy work. Attention to details. The panels that look like subway tiles are really nice and sturdy but it requires precision when they are installed to make the panels line up. Ours are slightly off. Slightly is unacceptable. The caulking a 10 year old could have done better. The caulk is very uneven because they used their finger to smooth the caulk, making it uneven. read more

This company is an absolute scam. When you hire a 'Professional' company to come out and do a job you expect to get professional work, not a patch up job that you can do yourself. This business is run under a fake business address at 33985 Harper Ave, Clinton Township, MI 48035, so I located and went to this man's home at 21537 Tanglewood St., Saint Clair Shores, Michigan to speak with him about the poor-quality job he did for my parents. I was respectful in asking him to fix the poor-quality work that had been done or refund the money so that another company could do the job right. He slammed the door on my face, so I began to walk away. He then cussed at me through his window, started calling me horrible names. This is the worst company I have ever deal with, paid $900.00 for the re-glazing of my tub failed after 2 weeks it failed, they came out a 2nd time with same result, cracking, peeling, uneven surface, left a gapping hole. Called for an appointment to have an old tub reglazed. We opted for the more expensive glazing with a 20 years warranty. The technician was out to our house just a few days later. The process takes about 3 - 4 hours. The technician did a good job of exhausting as much odor and/or dust out of the bathroom window. He also waited outside in his vehicle during the time each of the process steps took to "do their thing." We are very satisfied with the final results. All interactions with personnel of this company have been courteous and professional. Personally, I would recommend Detroit Tubs for any future reglazing projects we might need. read more

In early 2021 my father engaged Detroit Bathtubs & Paint to convert his bathtub to a walk-in shower. I gave him the money for the shower door as a gift. The work was completed in one day and he was initially happy with the outcome. However, in early 2022 he noticed that after he took a shower corrosion came out of the handle bar. He cleaned it every day for about one week and then called the company. A woman answered and he told her what was going on. She said that she would relay the message to the owner and he would call him back. He waited 2 weeks and no one called. He called again and the owner who's name is Bob answered and asked him to send a picture that showed the issue. He did (see attached picture) and did not get any response. He waited 2 more weeks until he called again and the owner answered the call. The call quickly devolved into any ugly argument with Bob spending the next 10 minutes cursing him out. A few minutes after he hung up the phone he texted my father a message that corrosion is not covered in his contract however the contract does not mention any thing about corrosion. This is our third home, the third one we will be remodeling as well. I've never in all of my remodels had to chase a company to follow up or book services. Nick came out to my home to give an estimate, I've communicated with him on several occasions to send me an estimate, give me potential dates (in which he ended up changing when I called to proceed forward.) I've also had to chase him down to see what he needed from me in order to secure the project. After finally getting an answer from him I was told that he would get back to me on a date that he would come out that week to get a deposit and sign paperwork. It has been almost a month since I've last had any contact him. After reading all these reviews, I can see that it was a blessing in disguise. This company is the worst company that I have ever dealt with. Bob is a liar and thief. They were supposed to be at my house on 12-14-2022 at 9:00am, my wife took the day off and at 10:00am she called Detroit Tubs and they said they didn't have anyone to do the re-glazing. So they rescheduled us for 12-21-2022. Why did we have to call? Should have been a red flag! I had set up a temporary drain for them to use with two 5 gallon buckets in the basement. Bob said the they needed to rinse the etching material used in the process. they never used the drain and buckets were dry and not touched. They never etched the tub. I came back to my house and the employee said "I'm ready to re-glaze do you want to look at it? I went in the bathroom and there were still chips in the original tub and I said aren't you going to fix those chips and he said "I don't have any bondo to fill it in". I said "I have some at my other house and I will go get it and bring it back. I also felt silicone still on the tub and he sanded it off. Then he re-glazed and the tub started to have check marks where he didn't get the silicone off. Then he said that he was putting on a second coat. He put on so much paint that there are runs all over the tub. I signed the form but then after he left i noticed all of the runs and one spot he totally missed and is still pink. Bob said he would refund my money and told my wife that he clicked the button for the refund. A week later no money. I sent him an email and he said he wasn't refunding our money because, they completed the job and I won't let them back in my house. Initially I was impressed that Detroit Tubs was going to re-glaze my tub and surround, as another re-glazer had failed to warranty the work within the initial 6 months. Detroit Tubs was also initially contracted to do re-glazing to the remainder of the tile wainscoting in the master bathroom. A date was set with their office by my wife approximately a month ago. No contract was provided at that time. Two weeks ago I requested a contact and a confirmation of the installation date of 3/10/22. at first there was confusion as to the start start. When the owner, Bob, spoke to me at that time he stated it would happen on the 10th. Last week I requested a contract wit the scope of work inclusive. Four E-mails were sent to my wife for the signature of the contract. The first part of the payment to be when they started, the second payment as the re-glazing progressed an the final amount when the job was completed. Since they stated that it would take one day, I was prepared to pay in full at the end of the day. I signed the contract and returned it with an E-mail receipt of such. It was stipulated that I pull the toilet prior to the start of work. I did so this am. My wife called them this morning about when they would arrive. Detroit Tubs stated that they were not coming out today, since my son had not responded to their texts. Both my wife's and my contact information was to be utilized during this transaction. When I contacted the owner this morning and commenced asking questions he stated he was not coming out and doing the job despite the fact that I had prepared the work area as outlined by Detroit Tub. With this type of mismanaged business dealings prior to the installation I am gratefully that things occurred as they did. Definitely a heads up. I highly recommend to others thinking of dealing with Detroit Tubs that you research and get at least three prices from qualified contractors that are licensed with reference you may contact. I had a painter come paint my walls after his job was "complete" and the blue painters tape pealed his so called 5 step premium epoxy right off my tiles. Botched job. Contract said the money paid would be credited towards a second solution. Patching and reglazing didn't work, due to inept worker who really messed up my tub. He also scratched up my Travertine floor tile. Bob Anderson, owner, told me he fired this guy. We agreed to a new tub installation on December 9, 2017, and Bob said after the tub installation he would have one of his crew buff my floor. I have a recording from his wife (10/31/17) saying installation would be 12/9. When I called on the 8th to confirm they were coming in the morning, Carrie said I never confirmed, so they weren't coming. I re-listened to the message, and I was not asked to confirm. After that, my calls were never returned. I started texting Bob, who said he would give me a full refund. 3 months later, dozens of e-mails, texts and correspondence with the Better Business Bureau, and I still don't have my refund! I even offered him a payment plan of $350 immediately and then $100 a month for the next 4 months. I told him if he refunded my $750, I would forget about the floor. Still no refund. The BBB really can't help mediate a claim. They only pass e-mails between the business and the complaint. He easily lies to the BBB. Here is the final e-mail that I sent to the BBB: His response does not resolve my issue because lying resolves no issue. Mr. Anderson has NEVER contacted me since I sent him an e-mail on February 8, 2018. Please see the attached document "detroit bath.doc". On February 20th, I sent him a text asking him what his decision was. Please see the attached document "screenshot.png". With no response from Mr. Anderson by February 22nd, I contacted The BBB. As you can see in the attachment, the agreement I offered Mr. Anderson in the February 8th e-mail began with an immediate payment of $350. I have not received any communication or payment from him. In his last response to the BBB, he stated/lied that I agreed to a March 10th date. In this new correspondence from him, he says I agreed to a March 15th date. Please review his previous correspondence between him and the BBB. You will note that he changes the date each time to be in "just a couple days'. Mr. Anderson says I agreed to an e-mail that he sent in response. Let's ask Mr. Anderson for a copy of my response to that e-mail/text where he says he accepts the agreement and set up a payment schedule. Then let's see a canceled check from Mr. Anderson showing a payment to me in the amount of $350, as stipulated in the agreement (that he says he agreed to). You will see that neither can be produced, as neither exist. I believe the BBB has done as much as they can, and I will be forced to take legal action. I do not, however, want this complaint considered closed on the BBB website, and want to be sure his credit rating with the BBB reflects my complaint. I want to be sure this entire complaint and responses are detailed on the BBB website so others can read it if they are thinking about hiring him. The owner named Bob is abrasive, rude, lies and hangs up on you.They reglazed a tub for us. It was insufficient prep with dry spots, pitted spots and not fully covered around the drain. So we had to have the service man come back out again. That time he produced a certificate of completion stating we needed to sign it for him that we were satisfied so that he could get paid for the job. My husband didn't want to sign because the job was not dry and we couldn't be sure we were satisfied. Unfortunately, he gave the check to the service man and was supposed to have a receipt sent to us. 2 weeks later the tub had a chip.I called the company. Bob the owner answered and said he had no record of our job and said he wouldn't do anything without a receipt, and hung up on me. I called him back and told him we never received our receipt but have a certificate of completion and a cancelled check to his company. He argued with my husband and said " I don't care, unless you have a receipt, there's nothing to talk about" and hung up again. They scheduled our appointment, sent guy out a second time, but all of a sudden has no record of the job. Not sure if they tore up our contract because we wouldn't sign the satisfaction the moment of completion. Nonetheless, avoid Bob and his company. Found the company at a home show. They seemed very informative and friendly and truly did the work I was looking for. I have an original bathroom from the 50s the tub and sink needed reglazing as the rest of the bathroom is/was flawless. I made an appointment to have the work done, I was quoted one price, when I called back to confirm I was given a higher price. The day of the appointment and mind you we took apart the bathroom ourselves ready to have the work done (removed shower doors, faucets, etc. even put plastic runners down on our carpeted stairs leading to the bathroom) and no one showed up. I called Bob and he told me it was a error on their part. He had my job scheduled for that day in one calendar and also scheduled for the next day in a different calendar. I explained it was unacceptable that I wanted somebody out "today" as we had made plans to leave town that evening for a long weekend because it is our only bathroom and we would be unable to use it. He made a few phone calls called me back and told me he was sending someone right out that he was pulling from another job. The worker showed up was not very pleasant, he went out to his car continually and on the phone. He told me some of his equipment was broken and he had to go to Home Depot to purchase new tools. We paid $750 to have liquid porcelain applied to our bathtub and sink. After the worker left and didn't clean up any of his mess upstairs. While we cleaned up after him we realized there was overspray all over our entire bathroom! Ruined the floors, mirrors and tile! I called Bob on Monday to tell him of my dissatisfaction and he made lots of excuses but promised to come look at the job personally the next day and made a 4 o'clock appointment. After 5 weeks when I called to check on the status, I was told the manufacturer was busy and that I would be called as soon as it arrived to arrange for installation. When I checked back in a couple of weeks, I was told that I "was being nothing but rude". After contacting the manufacturer, I was told that Bob said I had cancelled the order and that he had never gotten paid. NOT TRUE!!! He has obviously been making a living scamming people for years. We spent almost $6000 on a bath refinish, have started to experience problems with the tub, and they have yet to repair it. I have lost track of the numerous phone calls I have placed. I called back, talked to Bob, and he very curtly told me "It was taken care of." No it wasn't. No show. No call. Called several times after that, no response. I finally got in touch with Bob who gave me a cock and bull story that he was calling/texting "his guy" who would come out and repair. I asked for a return call from Bob; nothing. About a week later, Carrie called and said "their guy" was not responding and that Bob would come specifically that Saturday (two weeks ago) to do it himself. At the time of writing this claim, I HAVE YET TO HEAR FROM ANYONE FROM DETROIT TUBS. We have now had to hire someone to look at the problem. Much to our surprise, he told us the bathtub is not anchored properly, the three insert walls are moving away from the tub, and caulking it NOT going to solve this issue. Detroit Tubs made my life 100% more difficult during my move into my apartment after trying to schedule a bathtub refinish in time for my move. They sent someone to give me an "estimate" and then they took my deposit of $250 from my bank account, and never called to schedule service. They also promised to send an email with a $50 discount that I could get via Facebook, but I never received an email from them at all for any reason. When I called them, they gave me a date and then never showed up after I moved to my apartment in time to accommodate them. They promised to refund my deposit when I cancelled my order, but its been weeks and I haven't seen a penny or heard back from the company after many calls. I ended up getting my tub refinished for half the price, in a timely manner from another company, and it looks great. Now its almost like I just gave away $250 in the middle of moving and getting settled. It would be nice if someone actually "called me back" like the receptionist tells me they will every day. I hired Detroit Tub to reglaze a tub I had at a rental unit of mine that was empty. I paid for the service and scheduled an appointment. The day of the appointment I hired somebody to be there to let them in and keep an eye on the place. They never showed and when I called, he said they were having staffing problems due to Covid. He said he would give me $100 off if I rescheduled - I agreed. A week later the same thing, hired a person and a no show. This time he said he would refund my money and do the job for free. Ten days later the person finally shows up and does a very nice job. I wait a few weeks - no refund. I call and he said he could refund it through PayPal - I sent him an email with the information. A month later when I call, his wife is on her way to the hospital because he was having heart issues. I wait two months to let him get back to work and get caught up - he said he will take care of the refund. After another couple weeks I thought maybe the BBB could help (didn't really want to write bad review - job was good, execution was terrible). His first comment was I received a refund, I pointed out this was not true. Then he stated I got what I paid for, then he tries to make me out as the bad guy for "threatening" him with a bad review.
