In addition, the unit is open and ready to rent, leaving them with a potential for double income. I'm not asking for them to give me anything for free... just don't charge me for a service you're not providing. You can also expect rapid increases in your rent within months of moving in. You can't even talk to an actual person through customer service.... several steps in you are allowed to TEXT with them. There's too many options available to settle for this.

Serious issues with SpareBox Storage. Do not rent from the facility. I will list the issues with…read morethem. 1. You are not allowed a walk through to see what you will be renting. It is against SpareBox Storage policy to allow walk through. 2. They will not discuss their rental history prices at all. 3. Only monthly contracts. 4. They have a intro rate that will bait you in. Give you offers like first month free and then $130 a month with a $25-$50 service charge which is fine but then high rent spikes after example $130 a month then $200 rent spike. The "Intro Rate Rent Spike" Strategy Explained 1. Hook: Very low move-in price They advertise a cheap monthly rate (sometimes with promos like first month free or discounted units). * Goal: Get you to commit quickly * Psychology: "This is a great deal, I'll lock it in" Multiple reviewers say the price initially feels like a "bang for your buck." 2. Lock-in: Make moving costly (not financially--physically) Once your stuff is inside: * You've rented a truck * You've spent hours moving * You're settled Now leaving is a huge hassle, not just a decision. "They constantly raise the rent... knowing it's difficult to move once you're settled in." That's the key leverage. 3. First increase: usually within months Many complaints say increases happen: * Around 4-6 months * Sometimes as early as 3-6 months One customer said rates increased again just 4 months after the last increase. 4. Escalation: repeated increases every 6-9 months This is where it turns into a pattern: * $101 $118 $133 (example from complaint) * $190 $325 over time Some customers are even told to expect increases every 6-9 months. 5. Price discrimination (this part surprises people) You might end up paying more than new customers for the same unit. One complaint: a new customer quote was $40 cheaper than their increased rate. That's intentional: * New customers = low price to attract * Existing customers = higher price because they're "stuck" 6. Endgame: maximize revenue until you leave The system keeps pushing rent up until one of two things happens: * You accept the increases * You move out (and they refill the unit with another low-rate customer) Why this model works (industry-wide, not just SpareBox) From broader storage industry discussions: "Advertise really low move-in specials... then start increasing the rental rate a few months later." And the core idea: * Storage is month-to-month * No long-term price lock * Companies can raise rates with notice * Customers are inconvenience-locked, not contract-locked Bottom line (plain English) It's basically this: Get you in cheap wait until moving is a pain raise your rent repeatedly Not illegal. But a lot of people feel it's deceptive or predatory based on how aggressively it's used. This should be illegal. The only way to get these companies to stop is stop renting from them. People go through so much renting uhauls or trucks to move their stuff and settle in and then forced to pay the high rent spikes because they dont want to have to remove their belongings to another facility. Stop renting from SpareBox Storage. Either force them to change their policy or shut down.

Hi neighbors, I've…read morerented from SpareBox on 23rd & Sarah since July 2022. At one point I had two units--one outdoor and one climate-controlled. Beyond the constant rent hikes every 3-6 months, what concerns me most is that both of my units have now been broken into. March: My outdoor unit was hit. July: My climate-controlled unit was broken into. SpareBox told me they filed a police report but haven't heard anything back. They also told me I should file my own, so I plan to submit a non-emergency report to ensure my units were actually included and to follow up myself. What I don't understand is: SpareBox has cameras, so why can't they identify who's breaking in? Why would one of my units be hit in March, and then a different one in July? Why are only certain units being targeted instead of all? I'm sharing this so others know what they're getting into if they choose to rent here. This site is not secure--and on top of that, they keep hiking up prices.

OKCPD told me the storage facility has access codes used to gain entry and video of the break ins, but without a warrant, the company won't release the information to the police to aid in the potential recovery of our stolen belongings. My locks have been cut of twice in less than a month and most of the contents stolen. The first time that they notified me was 4/22/22 and then again on 5/20/22. In April there were a lot of units broken into when mine was. The second time I am not sure as I was out of town working and not able to get there right away. When I did get there I was late on my payment and a few days short of payday. So when I got back into town I found my code suspended. They refused to allow me in to check my contents and file a police report. Apparently they have no problem allowing thieves in and out. But they will not let a victim of those thieves who is a little behind on rent in to check the contents or have the police come out to file the necessary police report. With no onsite management you would think that they would be saving enough to at least hire a security patrol. These are terrible people to trust with your belongings. All of the positive reviews on Google are for the previous owners. I will be moving what little is left in my unit out ASAP.
