St John Vianney Parish and School - Fish fry

St John Vianney Parish and School

During Lent, many Catholics abstain from eating meat on Fridays so often churches will provide fish…read moredinners for sale. I'm not Catholic anymore and never went to a fish fry growing up, but I enjoy checking them out around town since they're usually pretty affordable and I love fried fish. I saw a photo of the fish fry at St. John Vianney and knew I had to try it. The curly fries really drew me in, but it was the massive portion of fish that put it towards the top of my ranking after trying it. I found a link to preorder which was easy and convenient. We arrived at our specified pickup time and got in line. It was a drive through situation with kids running food out to each car. It only took about 10-15 minutes to get our food which wasn't too bad. I've heard tales of lines of 100+ cars at other fish fries around town. My boyfriend and I went over to a nearby park to eat since we didn't want to drive almost 20 minutes home to eat. The park was closed, whoops! We ended up in another church parking lot to eat. The two dinners came with lots of tartar sauce, one that lost its lid in the bag and turned upside down. Luckily the bag was free of holes so it was contained inside and didn't make too much of a mess. The dinner includes curly fries, coleslaw, a roll, and a big portion of fried fish. We planned ahead and brought silverware, napkins, and ketchup packets, none of which were included. The fries were a little stale but still edible and definitely helped by ketchup. The roll was soft and fresh. Finally, the fish was perfectly fried, hot, and actually seasoned well. I was really impressed and blown away by the amount of food! We could have split one dinner. I would definitely go back again next year for this fish fry.

Grand River Preparatory High School - There's a church next to the school. The parking lot looks as big as the school.

This school may look great because it's a preparatory school, but this school is not good. We…read morebasically don't have that many good option though. I have been at this school for two years. I am in 10th Grade and both years I have received poor scheduling for my classes. Classes were moved multiple times due to inconsistency. I think that the principal of this school is very strict and demanding, but in a way that doesn't help. He seems to do what he has to do and with interactions I've personal had with him, I thought he was rude. I was informed by a teacher that even when the school had a fire, students were expected to go to school the following day. This was not during the time I was at this school. I think that most of the teachers (mostly the male) at this school are not very kind, caring, and respectful, even though that is what they expect from students. Never take ASL because it is a horrible course. You get little to no support in that class. The teacher for ASL does not live in Michigan. Everything is online and you are expected to make videos of yourself every week signing about 30-50 new words plus learning vocab. That was way to much for me especially as a freshman. I am a A student and I had to take summer school because of that class. Most of the good teachers leave this school. Another negative is the size of the school. The school is hardly bigger than a middle school. There are no other floors and the classrooms are way to small. There is no library and certainly no auditorium. This school needs to expand. There are too many kids in this small school. One other thing is the lunch here. We are served only two option. Most of our food is highly processed and is certainly not good for us. It looks bad, taste bad, and is bad. We recently got a salad bar, which is a bit better but the lunch still needs to be better than this. How are we supposed to learn with this kind of food in our systems. Then lunch is only 15 minutes. We get no other break. They say passing time is a break but passing time is 5 minutes and our classes are on the opposite side of the school most times and there are way to many people in the halls. We need time to go outside. We are locked up for seven hours. How is this not like jail? Then the work load is too much. We get work in all seven of our classes and we are expected to get it all done in a week. Plus test are always on the same day for our classes. How do teachers not discuss test days? The whole "credit" thing is confusing as well. The school needs to be more clear on what they want and expect and they should lower their demands. We aren't adults yet. I get you're preparing us but prepare in a way that's helpful not stressful. I feel like teachers care about their jobs and not helping you so if you are really stressed out they might give you a minute but it's like they make school a job for you. This school is just a public school with a fancy title. People vape, get pregnant, make out, cuss, plagiarize, and everything else here. It's not that different than a public school. I can say that this school changed my character. I felt like I wore a fake smile a lot, when I used to wear a real one. But that's just my personal experience. If you want to go to high school, you should not go in Kentwood, and you should certainly not go here. But if you are a freshman here do not take early collage because once your in you can't get out and you are stuck at this junk of a school.

Amazing Venue for Our Dream Wedding!…read more Venue3Two is an INCREDIBLE place to celebrate a wedding in West Michigan! My husband and I were looking for a beautiful venue with historic charm, & we were blessed to find this gem so close to home! Spending the morning at Venue3Two as we prepared for the ceremony was such a peaceful experience! As I got my hair & makeup done, as we got dressed, as we did our first look, as we took pictures with the bridal party, I was just amazed by the romantic elegance found in every corner & every room of the 1920s mansion! Then, after we returned from the ceremony at my church, one of my favorite moments of the day was bustling my dress in the bridal suite on the second floor & looking out the window to the backyard where I saw guests relaxing on the terrace & enjoying cornhole & giant jenga (outdoor games the venue provided). During the cocktail hour and reception, I loved being able to enjoy drinks in the great room as well as the charcuterie table in the dining room, being able to feel the sunshine through the large windows as we dined in the conservatory, & being able to find delicious desserts in the kitchen. Another one of my favorite parts of the venue was the fireplace in the great room where we displayed the family wedding photos on top of the mantle. Every time I walked past it, I found guests & other vendors taking a look at the photos which made me smile! We also had our engagement photos displayed on the giant TV in the conservatory which people loved to look at throughout the cocktail hour & reception! In the evening, the terrace was magical with its outdoor lights providing a perfect romantic setting for the rest of the night. I can't believe how smoothly everything ran throughout the day, and that is because of the incredible service provided by the Venue3Two team! They were very professional & attentive, and my venue coordinator, Stochia McDaniel, was so incredibly helpful as we discussed & planned the big day for several months! I heard numerous comments from guests at how beautiful the venue is, and I loved sharing their inspiring mission statement (if you haven't yet, please check it out: https://www.venue3two.com/investment). I can't sing enough praises of Venue3Two for making my dream wedding a reality!
