Never a missed opportunity to stop off here! Just off the I 80 exit for Adair. This is a great spot to stretch your legs. A tiny little shop offering big ice cream treats! Additionally, there is a short menu of burgers, fries, and such for someone looking to get a quick lunch. The Dew Drop Inn and Dairy Sweet. An incredible throwback to the days of small town charm and genuine good food and service. No frills, just an absolute must stop. The staff consisted of three generations including a 7 or 8 year old boy who counted change better than most college kids I've met. We both had their pork tenderloin sandwich ( an absolute staple in Iowa) Phenomenal!!! And krinkle cut fries. We will stop the next time we're traveling through. read more

The quintessential Brookland hangout. Located right off the Metropolitan Branch Trail, it's the perfect pit stop for cyclists and locals. It's a 'dive bar' in the best sense: unpretentious, dimly lit, and filled with character. The outdoor patio is huge and usually buzzing with energy. They don't have a full kitchen, but there's almost always a great food truck outside (try the tacos if they're there). Cheap drinks, great music, and a staff that actually knows their regulars. What a nice experience in Iowa! Note- CASH only. The grandmother who owns this quaint place just off I-80 has a lovely personality, as does her granddaughter who was helping out. The food was great- simple but yummy classic American fare for unbeatable prices (compared to larger/ chain restaurants). We had the grilled chicken sandwich, strip basket, Philly cheesesteak, and fries. The tornadoes (like Dairy Queen Blizzards) were delicious too, as was the chocolate malt. It was definitely worth the stop; we enjoyed supporting this small business and chatting with the locals. read more

My mom and I stopped here on our way to Michigan. I've gotta say this place was super amazing. The lady was great and the food is even better. It's super cozy and a tiny restaurant that sells all of the American greats. We are now on our way back to Colorado and spent about 1 hr trying to find where we went and finally found it..now we're headed back for some more great food. read more

This place is a true gem. It is a staple around these parts. Monday is lemon ice cream is awesome. Shirley is the best! She also sells farm fresh eggs I believe now they are like 250 a dozen but the best eggs that I've ever had and I have tried several farm fresh eggs places around here. This is a must go to in the town of Adair. Many generations have taken there kids and grandkids to this place. My husband grew up coming here as a kid and now we are taking our grandchildren here. There is not enough space to say all the great things about this place. read more

I ate here when I was on contract around the area, I stayed in the hotel next to it so it was an easy walk next door. I typically love small gems like this one and It did not disappoint! This place has super delicious food for a great price. Both ladies in there were super helpful and friendly. It is cash only. I definitely will be stopping if I'm ever in the area again. read more

Stopped here on the way home - this gem was hidden off I80 behind one of the gas stations. I won't say which one. Do us all a favor and don't go here. Don't ruin it by making it too popular. This place is perfectly quaint without even trying. A very nice staff of two was there to serve us. A low ceiling shack that offers soft serve shakes, cones and tornadoes as well as a variety of quick food including burgers and fries. CASH ONLY! you've been warned - so don't tarnish the experience by whining about the cash only policy - just move along, nothing to see here. That being said, A more perfect respite while traveling on a 90+ degree day could not be found. We had ice cream only, no food. We tried their soft serve cones, tornadoes and a malt - all were delicious. The soft serve is available in vanilla, chocolate and twist. Also, I don't have proof, but this place may unknowingly save a family members life, by providing a much needed break from 14 hours in the car together - go there, but don't tell anyone. I'm not. Oh - One more thing... their soft serve menu says "Lemon on Monday's." I wish I had been there 1 day later - I bet it's good. read more

Great Hidden Gem behind the convenience store. Old School walk up ice cream joint! Had the corn dog, bacon cheeseburger, and cheeseburger, with fries, onion rings, shake and a malt ! Great 'tornadoes,' which is pretty much a blizzard but far better than DQ. They do not skimp on toppings. They also had a lot of food options but I can't say what they are like. We noticed a bacon cheeseburger for less than $5 on the menu. Cute, quirky, a place I'd definitely go if I was local. Bring cash! No checks or credit. read more
