One of my favorite local restaurants. It's perfect for a casual night with friends and family or it can be your special occasion restaurant. I've never had a bad meal here. The grilled salmon is my favorite. The cheeseburger and beef medallions are also good. Recently we tried dessert for the first time. The tiramisu was so good and I'm pretty sure it was homemade. Always a good time here.

I came here 5 years ago and my experience wasn't great. Tonight it was wonderful. Calamari is tasty. Grilled shrimp with fluffy rice and fresh seasonal zucchini, amazing. My husband's ribeye, cooked perfectly medium rare. The chocolate cake my son got was decadent. The lemon drop martini was a bit strong. The service was great. Glad to have something nice to try here in our small town.

Great food. Several different menu options including appetizers, entrees and desserts. Highly recommend.

Ambiance and high end restaurant in a quaint little town. Beautiful cocktails and specialty food and dessert! A must try without the crowds of the city. Great jazz music and low romantic lighting.

To Die For. Melt in your mouth steak like butter. Street fries had street corn and maybe a chipotle. One of our guests was in tears from the beauty of it all. Service is the best around. You have to go.

As a corporate pilot I see a lot of fabulous restaurants and eat out often in a variety of East/West Coast & other big cities worldwide. First time visiting The Purple Door & can't wait to return! A gem of a restaurant for any large city, absolutely fabulous for Harlan! Was impressed with the staff and owner, both made several rounds to our table to ensure a great evening. Drinks were refilled often, appetizers and the meals were perfect and well proportioned. My medium rare medallions were melting in my mouth. Deserts were scrumptious! We had been to this location before when it was an Asian restaurant. The renovation The Purple Door did was spectacular. They combined the old history with the new, casual fine dining. Well Done!

I live in The Northeast. I'm impressed. That takes a lot. A meal of this caliber would've cost me three to four times as much back home for less quality/taste. A gem. Keep it up.

Stopped in for lunch while on vacation. Very good service and the Pizza burger was amazing. Can't wait to try new things the next time I go.

One of the best coffee drinks I've ever had-high quality beans, freshly ground and flavorful but not too sweet start to the morning. Greeted by several members of staff, all of whom were smiling and more than willing to talk about their local suppliers and favorite items on menu. Everyone we met (including patrons) were the epitome of Iowa nice and we found this a really pleasant place to stop in. Cozy, warm location, very popular with locals, and comfortable seating. The salad came with the chicken, but no boiled egg, nothing fresh besides the lettuce and in amongst the salad were roasted Brussels sprout and saturated with balsamic vinegar dressing. When the waitress brought the salad I told her I asked for ranch on the side. When she went to get it, I realized then that the balsamic dressing had already been poured on it. When I told her I wanted no balsamic vinegar on it and just the ranch on the side and that I didn't realize there were grilled brussels sprouts, which I would not have ordered had I know they were going to be on there, she, very snarky, told me they could remake it. I could tell she was not happy with me about my criticizing of the chef salad, which I thought was universal. When you get a Chef salad, you pretty much know what you're gonna get- this was not it! She never came back to my table to see how things were. She did not offer to make amends in any way. In fact, she ignored us. I won't be going back. I'm a local. It's the first Ive tried milk and honey since it's been in its new place. I will not be back and can definitely find another place to eat lunch that won't cost me 40 bucks for a disappointing meal. Also, the coffee was cold. Sad.

It's SO GOOD. And we had it tonight! Well T did... and lemme tell you it's goooood. Very rich! But highly recommended. A warm baked potatoe with just sour cream and butta and AHMAZING baked beans with smoked pulled pork! I snagged their special, the 3-piece Walleye with fries, and either soup or salad. Traditional salad with a sweet ranch (wasn't my favorite), and crisp tomato. The Walleye... was superb, and if you're a crispy fry person, THESE are for you! Their coleslaw was also sweetly based, and I gladly passed that to T (just not a sweet based kinda gal). Also grabbed their Rustic Remedy - with a kick - and wooosaw was there one! He looked at me and said, "No, it's totally fine. Would you like some veggies on the side?" "Yes, that would be amazing," I said, and walked back to my table... and burst into tears. It wasn't just what he said. It was the kind energy in his eyes. I felt someone who took pride in what he was making, and who genuinely wanted people to be happy. I found myself asking, why am I crying? Because in a world where so many people in power feel disconnected, where corporations can make us feel like numbers, being genuinely cared for in a small café reminded me how much I love humans. Most people have love in their hearts and are trying to share it in their own small ways. As the world cracks, these simple things are more meaningful than ever.
