Dexter Lake Union is a relatively more affordable choice in the Westlake neighborhood. But it's poorly managed, and will cause you more headaches than your money's worth. Pros: - Location - More affordable? Dexter is cheaper than surrounding brand-new apartments (or they're supposed to be, but sometimes they try to get away charge more by pretending to be a newer building). In any case, you get what you pay for. Cons: - Cheap construction and dated building. Don't be misled by the veneer, as I'll explain below. - The worst elevators. The elevators are often broken and out of service. Even when they're operating, they're extremely slow - I've seen many people give up and take the stairs. Also, the elevators are extremely loud. Avoid units near one. - Garage security. The garage is rented out to non-residents and office workers working nearby (because they charge too much for parking and can't manage to fill the garage). This is a security risk. It's the same as parking outside. - Both garage doors often don't respond to remote fobs. I've had to walk inside the garage and trigger the sensor from the inside in order to park my car. - Noise. The walls and floors are paper thin. You'd better hope your neighbors have the same sleeping schedule as you. - Lost packages. Do you get a lot of packages? Better not ship them home, because when the shipping locker is full, they will sign packages for you and promptly declare them missing. - Poorly managed. Speaking of lost things, they can't even keep track of who's renting parking spaces and storage spaces. They had to perform audits of both. They threatened to throw out stuff in storage if residents were unavailable to respond to their audit. I knew someone who had a garage key and yet was parking for free for many months. - Unfair rent increase. They tried to increase my rent by 3% even though the market had dropped by at least 5%. When I asked the leasing office about it, they quite matter-of-factly told me it would cost me money to move anyway, and would I like the move-out form? I could not believe their greed and callousness. - Privacy. They sell your information to unscrupulous businesses. I still get emails from housekeeping services and gimmicky loyalty accounts after I moved out. This is unacceptable. I pay rent - my information should not be sold to startups. - Fraudulent utility bills. Watch out! Conservice will overcharge on the water bill and not tell you. If I hadn't been on vacation and noticed the huge discrepancy (who's using water when I was not home?), I wouldn't have been able to get the entire 2nd month's utility bill refunded. This has happened at least two separate times in two different calendar years, but the residents were never informed. Come to think of it, I should really report Dexter Lake Union for their fraudulent practices, but I've already wasted enough time on this veritable disaster of a "professionally-managed" apartment. read more

We experienced a number of issues while living here. The building insulation wasn't great, and always heard our upstairs neighbor throughout the day/late evening. Our apartment was excruciatingly hot in the summer, but we never needed to turn the heat on in the winter. The garage is not secure, and no substantial changes were made following multiple break ins and damaged to multiple cars. Finally, the apartment rent rate far exceeded the value. We really enjoyed the outdoor patio areas, but that was about it. read more

Great place to live! I looked at a dozen apartments when moving to Seattle (Westlake, SLU, Belltown and Cap Hill). Dexter Lake Union was the right mix for me when it came to more space at a good price. It's also within walking distance of Amazon (about a mile from the Day 1 building for me or I can catch the bus) and next door to Facebook. If you're looking for a larger apartment in a quieter neighborhood, you should check the Dexter. It's a great building. read more

I lived here for 3.5 years. The complex met my needs. The staff was friendly. They made sure the apartment was clean and updates (e.g. new flooring in the kitchen) that they said they would do when I viewed the apartment were completed. I liked the package locker that allowed tenants to retrieve packages when the office was not open. The location is great. Within 30 minutes, I could walk to the Amazon SLU campus, Whole Foods, QFC, Safeway, AMC Pacific Palace, and several restaurants. If I moved back to Seattle, I would be willing to live here again. read more

I toured Dexter not too long ago and will hopefully be moving in early next year after my current lease expires. I toured the corner unit which has an amazing view of downtown and South Lake Union...awesome for viewing the fire works or you can watch them on the breathtaking rooftops. I have already made friends there and been to a lot of their Wine Friday events. The staff is amazing and super friendly! If your looking for affordable but nice homes with a view you definitely need to check out Dexter. Btw they even have a Starbucks attached to their building! read more

The husband and I moved to Seattle last fall and had 4 days to find housing. Luckily, this was the second, and final, place we looked. Pros: Amazing staff--took care of feeding our cat while we were out of town Pretty friendly--no size restrictions, and treats in the office :) Beautiful lake views--I just watched a crew team training, and a boat go by carrying a helicopter! Spacious rooms--our 2 br has space for a proper dining table with 6 chairs Close to everything--2 bus lines on Dexter, the on Aurora, and one on Westlake can take you anywhere. Cons: Loud! If you face Dexter or Aurora directly, be prepared for noise The noise is the only only only thing that could be a deal breaker for some, because everything else about this place rocks. read more

This is a review for the signing process and the first week. Summary: - Great support (Pascal thanks!) - Excellent price/sq compared to similar buildings - No AC, small cabinets, lack of secure area for bikes Overall very happy. Pascal was very kind when we visited, allowing us to take our time (a lot) and to see 2 apartments twice to make our final call. We moved from the POST downtown, which was great but too expensive and found the Dexter to be what we wanted. We liked the floorplan and the area in general, a little bit more family friendly (love to be near SLU). There was not much room for negotiation but they were flexible and at the end made suggestions to lower our cost (start date etc.) and honored the published online price even if we didn't realize it was lower (Pascal brought it up). When we moved they gave us a cart and locked the elevator. The apartment was perfect, with new carpet and fresh paint. We made a chip in the paint on the door arch and within a couple of hours they had a maintenance guy there for free to fix it. We are finding small defects in the unit as it's 10 years old, but nothing we couldn't foresee. It doesn't have an AC (we were told) but you can rent one (external) for $100/month if needed or buy your own. The kitchen cabinet are a tad small but we made it work. Storage is ok with 3 closets. There is always parking available but the stalls run a little small. Only main flaw: no gated area for bicycles (once inside the garage). Today we had a delivery scheduled and Pascal was so kind to allow the company to deliver it to our apartment even if we are out. BTW they also delivers packages! I will update this review when we leave, which we don't foresee happening for at least 1 year, possibly more. read more

Up and coming neighbourhood next to Lake Union. The apartment itself is well-kept, nice looking and extremely comfortable. A lot of cool amenities as well- patio and rooftop hangout spots with bbq, a gym, media room and large size public kitchen for big gatherings. Would recommend this place to any audience! read more

Dexter Lake Union apartments is a safe, secure and entertaining community. Management has been great, super helpful and responsive to feedbacks. They are creative with small gatherings events every few weeks (of course before COVID). With Covid situation, they have stepped up and helped us with all they can. Great place to live. The condition of the apartment changes over time, so it may not be applicable if you read this many years after my latest update. ====== 2015 ====== 3 stars. This was a truly luxury apartment up till mid 2014. However, since the property has been transferred from Prometheus Corp to Alliance Corp, several things happened in the past year (none of these intrusions existed when it was under Prometheus): 1. They are now re-stripping the garage every year, forcing every vehicle to either move to another floor or get towed to another floor on particular days. This year they are doing it during Thanksgiving (Nov 23rd to Nov 27th). Well, at least, according to a new announcement, they are not towing the cars off the property. 2. They renovated the gym. This is OK...though we had to suffer through some noises for a while. The new gym is indeed larger and cleaner. However, the new location of the gym is less accessible. 3. Elevator is not working half of the time due to either repairs or moves. 4. They now charge a convenience fee for paying rent online. 5. They did a repainting of the outer walls during the hottest days, forcing everyone to close their windows during the day (9 am to 6 pm) for the duration of two months (Aug/Sept). To be fair, they did cover the window in case someone left it open and Seattle indeed does rain a bit more in other months. 6. They are renovating the 1st floor reception/lounge. We had to take the stinky side ways to enter the building for the last two months (Oct/Nov). 7. They started a valet waste service which people barely use...and added an additional charge on our rent without our consent. There is no opt out, and the hall way is often stinky now (think about people putting compost in the hall way for hours). 8. They are now swapping out the warm light with aggressively white florescent light in the hall ways. This is good for show and photographs, but definitely not good for comfort in case you live here. 9. They are currently contemplating putting incoming packages in lockers - right now they deliver them to our doors. In case the latter stops, I will deduct another star. They also claim it as a service. So if they charge us on this, I will deduct yet another star. 10. I haven't seen Pascal and the rest of the management from earlier this year for a while now. I think they no longer work here. Dexter Lake Union typically rotates management every two years, so it is expected. All in all, it feels like this apartment is renovating units to sell as condos and care very little about its tenants. Facebook is opening an office right next to this building, so they probably do not need to try very hard to keep the existing tenants. ======================================================================== Update: 8/9/2016 Deducting one star (from 3 stars to 2) The package concierge (lockers) did not incur additional charge, and they are still delivering to our doors occasionally. However, in the recent months, noise became a very significant issue. The shape of the building makes it amplifying essentially all noises coming from the other side of the street...and there is a construction on the other side of the street that starts early morning every day. As a heads up, we also received a notice regarding one more new construction coming up next door... In addition, the apartment is also not very careful with its own noise management. Today they were using some diesel engine to either cut the trees in the courtyard or to do some other maintenance...I was awake, closed all windows, and hid in the bathroom...and the noise was still unbearable. They did this for the entire morning! In short, if you are working in the IT industry and enjoy waking up and going to work a bit late, or perhaps occasionally work from home, this is definitely not the place you want to live. And yes...Pascal is gone along with the rest of his team in 2015. The new management team only treats prospective renters nicely. They care much more about whether the outer appearances of the apartment is presentable than whether tenants are comfortable. read more

The apartment complex itself is slightly older which is reflected in the price compared to nearby apartments and why I ultimately chose it - appreciate that it's relatively quiet and management stays on top of any maintenance requests/issues with the building. I lived at dexter for almost 3 years. Mostly I have good things to say. The building is nice, views are great (from the right apartment), most of the staff they currently have are great (though that hasn't always been the case). Apartments have a pretty good layout and most have good storage. Most of the time, things are pretty quiet ( you can sometimes hear the upstairs neighbors, but hey, it's a rental), and it's pet friendly. Location is great to buses. It's easy to walk to Fremont, Queen Anne, Downtown or S/E lake. Most of the office staff are very available to help, if you find one that isn't helpful, just wait to talk to someone else. On the downside, it's expensive for what it is. Not located quite close enough to anything in particular, but not far from lots of places. Parking is $150 dollars a month and isn't monitored. It's not that much, but just enough to piss you off when people are sneaking in behind you without parking tags. Being pet friendly is great but that doesn't guarantee friendly pets or friendly pet owners for that manner. My dog was bitten twice. In short, it's everything you can expect from a decent rental. It's a good place to call home for awhile, but it makes you want to buy a place of your own. read more

I have lived here now for almost 3 years and I am getting ready to move out. Below is the reason why: The staff changed over and all the great things that made this place worth it are quickly fading. The old staff was friendly and accommodating, and the new staff behaves in a more militant way, treating tenants more like college kids. We have tolerated the changes for the past year and a half or so but have reached our limit. The garage doors are constantly broken and rather than replace the system tenants need to make due with the overpriced parking ($150per month) for garage doors that works about 50% of the time. This results in non-secure parking since the building needs to leave the doors open overnight. As a result tenants have had car break-ins and bikes stolen. The building blamed the victims stating they should not have left garage door openers in their cars (which made them increased targets) or should have used better bike locks. The rent goes up approximately 10% each year with no real reason or anything in return for it. They are price matching new buildings in the area but do not offer the same level amenities i.e. granite countertops, wooden floors, stainless steal appliances. It is also not really walkable which is not reflected in the inflated pricing. The management seems to value quick turn prophets over steady reliable tenants. It is disappointing to see a total lack of appreciation for our loyalty to the building. read more

I've lived at the Dexter for the past 3 years and I'm surprised at some of the reviews. I never trust an angry 1 star review and there seems to be many. The facts are that some of these common problems mentioned happen everywhere, especially living in the city, hence your renter's insurance. How management deals with these situations is far more important. I've never seen a management team work as hard to make sure their tenants are comfortable and safe. They are very involved with the local community and volunteer their time in community events. We are always well informed with what's going on in the building and receive emails and text message notifications for various announcements. This is a place to feel at home in the city. Top notch maintenance to the apartments and common areas (never took more than 24 hours to fix anything) , very friendly staff and i enjoy speaking to all of them, very clean common areas, and amazing rooftop amenities. read more

I have been living here for 18 months and the apartment is modern, clean and spacious. The school bus stops right in front of the apartment which is a plus point for any families with school kids. This is a review of the leasing office - NOT of the apartment (I decided not to lease). I'm moving to Seattle and looking to potentially rent an apartment remotely (or sight unseen). I called Dexter and they gave me the usual overview of available apartments. But what prompted me to look elsewhere were the following: Arrogance: I inquired about a move-in guarantee to walk away from the lease without penalty if the apartment didn't work out say in the first 2 weeks, since I'm taking a risk signing a lease without being physically present. They don't offer it - that's fine. He scoffed at the idea as if it was unheard of (AVA Ballard actually offered that to me). Instead, he said that because of Amazon's nearby location he gets plenty of people who are willing to rent sight unseen. Shady business practice: I asked to see a template lease agreement to know what I'm signing up for. He said that they don't do that and that apartments in Seattle rarely do so as well (I'm paraphrasing). I told him straight out that that was not true - I have received a template lease from all other places where I inquired. Instead, he suggested that I could read it page-by-page when after I applied online. In other words, first I need to pay an application fee and only then could I see what was in store for me. Didn't offer material information about the apartments: Reading previous reviews I knew about the peculiarity of the terrain where Dexter Apartments are located whereby some upper floor apartments are actually at the level of the road. None of that fairly material information was offered until I specifically inquired about. What about the things that I didn't know to inquire about? The overall inflexible and arrogant tone of the discussion and specifically the inability to view (and, I suspect, amend) the lease agreement prior to signing got me looking elsewhere. read more

My husband and I have been living in this building for about 5 months and have been extremely happy with our decision to rent here. The staff here has really contributed to making it a great place to to call home. They are both friendly and accommodating. With my husband and I both working, having busy schedules and being unavailable during the day, the management is more than willing to handle letting people into our apartment or overseeing deliveries when needed. Additionally, anytime we are in need of a repair the response is extremely prompt. Other bonuses are several bus lines that stop nearby making it easy to take public transportation to different neighborhoods and the roof deck has a beautiful view. read more

My husband and I were relocated to Seattle for work just short of a year ago and we have been lucky enough to have found our home at Dexter. The staff is fantastic! I have never lived in a place where the staff is so personable and welcoming of us and our two pups. They are very reliable and responsive to any questions or concerns. They host awesome get togethers monthly (if not more) for the residents and they are always there. From things like wine Fridays, to game nights, or BBQs, and more...it is always a fun time and a great way to meet your neighbors and get to know the staff. The property is well kept, clean, and in the perfect location. We live in a corner unit facing Lake Union and Downtown which is awesome for working from home, as I do. The rooftop deck is great for cooking out on the nice summer days and there is a perfect view for fireworks on the 4th of July. We are close to downtown, Fremont, Queen Anne, etc. Right in the heart at Westlake. Apart from the city noise and buildings going up our apartment is very quiet when it comes to hearing neighbors. I can't ever hear what is going on next door, and that makes me happy. :) Crime happens everywhere, in and out of the city, but the staff here is quick to react and inform if such occasions do arise. I personally feel very safe here with having to use my fob to get into the building, garage, and elevators. I would highly recommend living at Dexter and we have had a wonderful experience. I couldn't imagine living anywhere else while wanting to live in the city. read more

No misunderstandings here: The leasing agents do not and will not show apartments to anyone with dark skin or obvious African heritage. Although I had a scheduled appointment with a specific person, the leasing agent quickly stated he was unavailable, and since she was the only one in the office at the time she was already booked for the day. She didn't even make any effort to schedule a new appointment because she was so busy showing me the door in order to make room for prospective white clients. In essence, the leasing agent wanted to get me out of sight and out of mind for whites who may be uneasy living in a building with Blacks, as if our presence would somehow bring down its property value thus making it a less desirable place to live. Upon telephone follow up a few hours later, the same leasing agent who so hastily pushed me out the building, stated the apartment had indeed rent out to someone else and there were no available units in the building. That is the textbook definition of housing discrimination. read more

Always wanted to find a moment to thanks Jonathan and his team for the great apartment he has provided us . The review is a small attempt towards the justice. To the people reading, i hardly write reviews but this one is something i really strongly felt a need for. So I have moved in Seattle in the month of August and my friend was already living in here in a studio apartment. We now wanted to move in together in a 2 bhk apartment and hence asked Jonathan to help us with the same. He provided us with the two options which were available at that time. I was little skeptical as we needed to sign the lease without seeing the apartment because of our tight dates.The reason is my friends lease was getting expired the very same day the apartment was going to be empty. Jonathan was very helpful and have provided us all the details about the appartment, maps, direction. He patiently answered all the silly questions i had about the balcony and sunlight too. But int he end he mentioned that we honestly are going to love the apartment. I will say I just went with the instincts and yes today after living here for more than 8 months I definitely say this " I am in love with this place". I talk about this to all my friends, the place makes me feel like home, the area is too safe, you get to see the lake view right in front , closer view is available just a staircase away. Jonathan organizes get together party for people staying here to feel like family every now and then with good food and drinks. The apartment has a gym with all the major equipments, an amazing package concierge locker system. You are always notified on time of your parcels and if you have concerns Jonathan is just a call away. And trust me people he responds with solution in a time you don't expect it to be done. We have a beautiful open terrace place with great lightnings and couches. You can do barbecue and have your party place booked. The apartment has multiple entries from aloha as well as dexter which make it really convenient. Building's security system is really good and never you get the feeling of not being safe here.Service provided by apartment are always on time and with no complains/concerns. read more

To begin with the pros: our apartment was clean with nice finishes, semi-old appliances that worked fine, beautifully maintained lobby and patio areas (3 patios with garden-like feel), friendly maintenance staff. Unfortunately, the cons outweighed the value we were getting, so it was time for us to move. Cons: during our 2 year lease at Dexter Lake Union, there were approximately 5-6 car break ins, occurring in what was supposedly a locked garage. When my car got broken in to (window smashed in)- review of the security footage showed two men manually lifting the garage door. This made it clear that this is a possibility even in a 'secured garage'. I was also witness to an active car prowl at 5am while heading to work- a man with a flashlight and backpack was looking through various cars. This and the other break ins left a bad feeling with us, especially when we were paying $150 a month for each car. To have an insecure situation for that much money was not worth it. Management and the Alliance corporation did little to fix the situation, so break ins kept happening. They had a security company patrol a few times per night, but that was about it. Another con was move out costs. When we signed our lease in the beginning, we were told we would probably have to pay 'a little bit' upon move out. Going over our post-move inspection, it turns out we have to pay a lot. Cleaning and painting costs totaled 300, plus 'carpet replacement' totaled 700- when they will most likely lay down hard wood as they are updating the units. We were very shocked at not only losing our deposit but owing almost half a month's rent for move out costs. I would warn anyone to consider safety and value of living before considering moving to Dexter Lake Union. read more

Just want to get the word out before anyone else has the same terrible experience we have had. The Dexter is a nice enough apartment complex, at the beginning of our lease it was great. Facilities were all kept up to date and the leasing office was nice to an average standard. Our lease was up on April 30th, but we decided to go month-to-month since we were not able to move into our new apartment until the 15th of June. We received a letter on our door claiming our May's rent would be actually less than what we had been paying because of a "credit." We were surprised but none the less appreciative and excited. Mind you this was placed on our door 8 days before our lease was up. A few days after this occur ed I received a phone call from the leasing office wanting to know if we were going to re-sign our lease. I was confused since we had already explained to them that we were going month-to-month for the the month of May. The leasing agent then told me my rent for May was actually $400 dollars more than the letter had said. I told her I was confused and wanted an explanation. She had the nerve to tell me that the letter of the "credit" was a general letter. It CLEARLY was not general since it was addressed to the other tenant of the unit. After she had "explained" (if you will) this misunderstanding as she called it, I hung up. Not even 5 minutes later she called back questioning me if I understood why my rent for an ITTY-BITTY not even 600 sq. foot studio had been hiked. I was and still am livid. I explained the days events to the other tenant of the unit later that day. He went to the manager's office determined to find out some answers. Not only did she explain that the "credit" (which was stated at $100 on the letter) was now only $20, but we actually owed more than I was originally quoted not only on the letter but also during the telephone call. Ummm, $200 more!!! Being as livid as I already was, I called the Regional Supervisor (Brett Something or another) and left a message expressing my concern and anger. I expected a call back within a day, but failed to receive one. I called the following day and left another message. And have yet STILL to receive a phone call back. Talk about poor customer service. So, renters BEWARE!!!!!! Do NOT under any circumstance even remotely think of renting from The Dexter unless you want every last penny squeezed out of you before you move out. This company is clearly headed in the wrong direction and I cannot wait to watch it collapse like the Berlin Wall. A read more

Hello potential Dexter Lake Union residents ! My experience with Dexter Lake Union was awesome. First, especially for those working for Amazon (as I did) - it is walking distance to SLU buildings. Proximity was an important factor for me to choose them. Second, DLU offers very decent prices comparing to the buildings in neighborhood. If you did your market research already - you know that. I moved from another apartments on Dexter Ave N to save 15% on rental fee. Third, they have W/D inside the unit. It is very convenient and just the right-to-do thing, especially for those with kids. Forth, management there is simply awesome. Myra, Stephanie and Ashleigh will always help you by all possible means. It is very nice team. They will always listen to your needs. They treat tenants very well including some get-together parties. Fifth, the roof top view is simply amazing, you can hang out there to enjoy stunning lake view with your friends. My Review has some backstory...I have been a Resident at Dexter Lake Union since 2013. A wee bit longer than "typical" apartment stays ;) I was impressed with the building and the apartments when I toured late Dec 2012. The folks who were on the frontline were great and treated me as a welcomed Resident. I liked the decor of the Main lobby and I loved my amazing view of South Lake Union and the impressive MOHAI museum (especially at night). Over the years, there have been some changes to the interior design, exterior views and personnel, fairly typical in the apartment realm, and other than the exterior view... :( the changes have been positive. Johnny and Jasmine- the Great team in place on the Frontline now- are Amazing and truly make you feel welcomed and are there for you if you need help with the various situations that come up as a Resident in a large apartment complex. They are friendly, knowledgeable and respond to email inquiries very quickly. Regarding the apartment complex and various areas of interest: Rent is reasonable and seems better than what is shown for other places in the immediate area Parking is prevalent within the garage and although the rates have increased, it is typical with what I've seen around Seattle Security is now much more solid than in the past-it's been a long time since an apartment-wide notification email about a break in of vehicles has been sent out. There is a good sized bike cage with a repair area set up. The Repair Team has been excellent in responding to the various problems that have reared up over the years. They repair or replace, as needed, in an amazingly short time frame. The exercise room has been enlarged and offers more machines than the area had when I first arrived. We have a Package Concierge System for various non postal mail deliveries. There is also a nightly Valet garbage/recycling/compost pickup service that I've grown to appreciate. It is part of the monthly utilities costs. Although road noise is a factor, other apartment noises are nearly non existent -in my experience. The apartments do get warm in the Summer months, not something that bothers me, but like the road noise, it is a reality in some apartments. The rooftop patios with deck chairs, tables and barbecue areas are lovely and the 4th floor patio/area is amazing with a lot of seating areas and even more flora and fauna. There are many opportunities for social gatherings in the lobby and there's a mini theatre that you can reserve for private parties/gatherings. I would recommend Dexter Lake Union to anyone looking for an apartment in Seattle. read more

While apartment hunting, Pascal at Dexter has been extremely hospitable in showing the available vacancies and discussing all the amenities offered in details. One can observe the friendly relationships that Pascal has with the building's tennants. He even went out of his way and stayed after closing to process the rental application. My husband and I lived at Dexter for 4 years and loved it! The staff was extremely friendly and very helpful. If there was ever a maintenance problem, the maintenance staff would respond quickly and fix what needed to be fixed. The location itself is perfect! Dexter is surrounded by a growing community of new apartment buildings, coffee shops/cafe's, and word in the street a grocery store in the future. You are also blocks away from Amazon which was great for my husband who walked to work every day. Close to interstate 5 and 99. I have lived at Dexter Lake Union (1215 Dexter Ave N) for a year now and have been regretting the decision we made ever since we moved in. Positives: Beautiful finishes, nice veneer, friendly staff (as long as you don't have a "real" problem). The management office will also sign for your boxes, which is really convenient. Adequate 24 hour gym and a club area where you can sign out DVDs, etc. We had a party down there and it was really nice. Good location if you have a car or take mass transit. The Truth: Beneath the flashy exterior is poor--let me say this again because it's worth repeating: POOR--construction. As I write this, I am listening to my neighbor above me stomp around--my motivation for this review. I know what time my neighbors above me get up, I know what time they get home, and I know what time they go to bed. Also, in the mornings, if I go to the bathroom, I can sing along with the song that they listen to! Not to mention that I can also tell when my neighbors on either side of me are having a fight because someone slams the front door and my apartment fixtures shake. Lovely! And as if that wasn't enough, because we have a south facing apartment, every Mon, Wed, and Fri (sometimes Tues and Thurs), we get woken up as early as 6am when the trash collectors arrive! (The trash cans are set at the south entrance.) My recommendation is to keep looking. It will have all the bells and whistles you're looking for initially, but after you move in, you'll see that everything that "glitters ain't gold". read more

If you are considering renting in the area I highly recommend going to one of the nearby competitors. The customer service provided to tenants is terribly disappointing with the latest change in on-site Management. The individual currently Managing the office may be great at renting out apartments but seems to have missed training the day they discussed customer service. Choosing where you live is a huge decision and renters should be shown respect and appreciation. I highly encourage renters to consider other options before signing a lease with the community while under the current Management. With so many communities in the area (competition constantly increasing) you would think Prometheus would focus their staff on building relationships with their tenants and providing the best customer service possible. The only positive aspect of the constant turnover in staff is that the current Manager will hopefully be replaced soon. read more

I recommend NO ONE living here. They sell the apartments really well, and make you believe it is a great home. It is not. The gym is barley usable as machines are always being used so you can not always go in when you want. They say the computers are for our own use. BUT THEY DO NOT WORK, at all. Constant theft is always something to worry about, bikes and cars, and I would never risk leaving your door unlocked. The staff is nothing to complain about, they are helpful and kind. read more

I'm just now beginning to recover from the nightmare that was Dexter Lake Union and only now months later, starting to be able to deal with it all. The management is way too young and inexperienced and an absolute JOKE, building security is atrocious. When I attempted to take them to court to negotiate the remaining lease balance, they used their attorneys to dodge it. I could not afford an attorney at the time ($300+ an hour for any Seattle RE attorney and you can't get any of the tenant organizations on the phone, EVER, believe me I tried daily for a month) The management gives incorrect and unsolicited legal advice, refused to let me use the elevators to collect my belongings and leave the premises when I finally had to just give up trying to negotiate with them and move to another state because my mom had taken ill, I left there in December, she died in March of this year. They knew the whole story, but were absolutely uncaring and ruthless. Due to my situation, the management and their lies I was physically and emotionally drained and probably at the absolute lowest point in my life, ended up not even being able to sleep, I packed the dog and what I could fit in the car and left, they kept over $15k of brand new furniture and belongings, (my mom and my health came first) even though they would not negotiate the lease they proceeded to place me in collections for the full remainder of the lease, never gave me an itemization of charges, and have yet to provide proof that they attempted to mitigate their losses by trying to re-rent the apartment as required by WA State Law. The collection agency they use started calling me constantly and when I'd answer were swearing at me, belittling me and telling me that I was a no good piece of s*&t that won't step up to responsibility. This was all as my mom was on her death bed, I just couldn't even deal with it. I still have reoccurring nightmares of my time there. I dream I'm trapped, they are chasing me and I can't find an exit, says a little something about how awful my time spent there was. Do yourself a favor and STAY THE HELL AWAY from these MONSTERS!.... read more

We have lived here since July 2010 and are very happy residents. We moved here out of state via corporate housing without any inkling of Seattle, let alone its neighborhoods. After months of searching around the various districts within the Seattle area, we decided to become permanent residents here as the staff, neighbors, and amenities are unparalleled. Every year around our renewal date we venture around Seattle to check out any better options; needless to say we are still here. We have seen three different managerial staff come and go - this one presently is the best this far. Every day we come home to such a wonderful building, wonderful neighbors, and wonderful staff. I absolutely love our dexter community online with daily updates sent right to my email to keep in the loop (or "trending"). We have groups that meet in our community room that extends invitations to anyone interested in our building and bulletin boards for pet sitters, gently used items, etc which keeps us connected and united via our online community. Our package updates are emailed upon arrival for piece of mind and if we are out of town, the staff can graciously push it into the apt upon request if need be. The staff if so friendly and welcoming, it feels like home. The maintenance crew is AMAZING! Not only can I put my service requests online, they are prompt when servicing, and sends verification emails for my own records. Sandor and Makhmud normally service us and the best maintenance guys in the world! In addition, I can manage all of my rental info online and even see my bills with a click of a button via my online profile (though we do get paper statements in the mail). They have bbq's and Friday socials in the clubhouse, and wine Friday too! This is the best community- hands down and I feel so lucky to be apart of the Dexter Family. read more

The staff here are nice to you face to face until you turn your back. Then they talk trash. Be prepare to pay out the ass for parking in the garage. Your guest have to pay as well. Street parking is insane. You will have to drive up and down the street several times to find a spot. Then you have to find another one an hour later cause your time ran out or you will get a $44 ticket. Things break all the time. You figure the amount you pay for rent that you will get better things. Kids are crying in the halls at crazy times of the night(early morning). People don't clean after their dogs which is disgusting. Trash and recycling area is over flowing from the cans to the floor. Just say i'm not renewing my lease here. read more
