Good company. Fair prices. No contract but 30 day cancel notice in writing is a bit painful.

I'd like to add that after I paid for the equipment they told me I needed to have, the owner, not myself, cancelled my contract. He also got a lawyer friend of his to send a super threatening letter after I posted an honest review. You shouldn't be allowed to do business if you can't handle customer service. You also shouldn't charge customers hundreds of dollars and then go "I'm not doing business with you" without refunding them the equipment charge. I've learned my lesson and Smith Thompson is great. Regardless of what the owner likes to state, this is not a "no contract" company. There's a contract and the owner can void it at any time. Beware of what you post as well. read more

Note that I am in the dfw area. People do relocate and I called them because I saw their sticker on the window of the home I purchased in the dfw area. I never requested a free service call. I only requested information as to how to stop the beeping. As far as the service call, the man refused to tell me how much the service call would be so yes I have a huge problem with that. I'm not writing a blank check to any business without any idea of how much we are taking about. I would think a professional should be able to give a property owner some idea of where a service call starts at. This guy couldn't. read more

Worked when we had it. Trying to leave is another matter entirely. The ONLY bright spot is a lady named Marilyn who was super pleasant to deal with on the phone and she followed through. I lucked into reaching her on my 5th call into their Customer Service. Otherwise atrocious customer service and unnecessarily painful and onerous to cancel your service. We moved but stayed in DFW and definitely would NOT recommend again. I see why these newer solutions that empower the homeowner are doing so well. read more

I have service with DFW Alarms for over a decade. The service has been good and the price competitive. While I cannot say I like the process one needs to complete to stop service, I understand after speaking with the owner. Just be sure you read the terms and conditions as it is not just a call and cancel process. read more

Where do I begin......Well I called to cancel my service mid November 2017. I spoke with a gentleman there that questioned me as to why I was cancelling. I mentioned that I was switching to another company. As expected he wanted to retain me as a customer and said they would match the other companies price. I appreciated the effort on their part and declined because the one I was switching to also had a pest service and I wanted to take advantage of a bundling that saves on price, etc.. He said I would have to send a signed letter requesting that cancellation...which I did asking to be effective on Nov 15th, 2017 (now I paid for the quarter already on Oct. 1st, 2017...keep that in mind because as most people know how pro-rated rates, etc. go, I am owed a pro-rated refund...which at the time when I spoke to him when I first called, he said that I would receive a pro-rated refund...makes sense right...well...prepare yourself.....)..... I had the new company come out to switch the service over on Nov 16th, 2017. When the gentleman was here he told me that at first he couldn't do anything because DFW Alarm had put a lock out code in which means no other company can do anything because it is locked out. Now why the heck would they do something like that. They didn't even install the system...that was done by Rowell Security on 9-8-2004. Sounds really shady and wrong if you ask me. So while the new company was here I called DFW Alarm to inform them of that and to get the code so the guy could proceed. I was told by DFW Alarm that for legal reasons they couldn't give it to me. WTH...well...sort of the awesomeness of the new company was that while I was on the phone with DFW alarm, he called his office and spoke with a guru there that has a thick book with codes from just about every other company just for matters like this....I now AWESOME...right? So he finished, left and all was good. Now remember that was Nov. 16th, 2017 so I waited for a bit for the pro-rated refund because I know things have to go through a process for a bit. I called them today (12-8-17) to ask about when I would get the refund because I never got it yet. I spoke with some guy who proceeded to tell me that I would not get a refund because of some 30 day period crap. Seriously...?...they told me originally that I would get one now that say no. When I first spoke to them in the beginning when all was good and polite, I told them that I would consider returning to them in the future. Well that ship sailed. Everyone....and I mean Everyone needs to stay clear of these deceptive thieves. Please spread the word around so nobody else gets scammed. Update: 3-6-18 Well, I just got a comment on my review from Al D. of DFW Alarm. Well Al, you can study my review all you want and be as puzzled as much as you want because EVERYTHING that I stated in my review is absolute FACT. Don't try to skirt around the fact that you DO install some type of a lock out code so no one else can access the system. Just look at several other people's reviews stating that exact thing that they encountered. I like your little excuse that my installer was unqualified to handle the job. That is an unprofessional comment you made. As far as you stating that I embarrassed myself with damaging and untrue statements, Oh, please. You are the only one embarrassing yourself by responding to all the negative reviews. It's a sad state of affair when you can't handle the truth and you have to try to be the big bully by responding. I had an emergency situation happen to me late Monday night/ early Tuesday morning and DFW Alarm was my home alarm company. They did not call me as my siren alarm went off for about 15 min. I had my phone in my hand for the entire duration of my issue and when the police arrived. This company never called me. They did call my 2 emergency contact numbers. They called me 36 hours later with an automated system informing me they had a record of alarms going off which was not helpful 36 hours later. I spoke to a customer service rep and she let me know she had a record of the system making a call to reach me. I let her know I was in a serious emergency situation and if anyone had called, I absolutely would have picked up. She said that wasn't reflected in her records. I have had this company for over 5 years and the 1 time I needed them, they were unresponsive and not helpful. I do not recommend this company to anyone who wants the police called when their home alarm goes off. I needed them to do their job 1 time in the 5 years I have had them and they failed miserably. read more

If I could give this place less than one star I would. Their monitoring service is ok, but do not be fooled by the no contract line. There is a contract, and when you choose to cancel you must do so in writing several times. After you cancel, you will then receive a bill months later ( in my case almost a year later) saying you owe $500 for some proprietary software or something. In my case they never installed anything in our home, we used existing equipment. I filed a complaint with the BBB as we initially sent a request for contact via their online request form and heard nothing. Only when we reached out through BBB did we hear something. After some remodeling work I had two zones of my owned alarm (Honeywell Ademco) that were open. 20 years ago I would have crawled through the attic and fixed this myself but those days are gone and I needed someone to solve the problem. I did not need a new system or monitoring services. I wrote an email to DFW Alarm and the boss, Al, responded over the weekend (how many businesses reach out to customers after hours these days?), and said someone would call and schedule on Monday. I knew DFW Alarm had been in business for a long time in the area but I had never had an opportunity to work with them before. Sure enough, without any further follow-up by me, the company called and set-up an appointment that day. David came out within a few hours and resolved the problems correctly and promptly. The only weird thing was that the company took my credit card number over the phone and advised of the hourly rate for tech work. I guess in the alarm business you might deal with flaky customers sometimes (a lot of that seems to be in these reviews below), but I don't know any other business that does this. I guess they have learned the hard way since they've been doing this a long time. Still, the work was done quickly and correctly. I can recommend them and will call again if I need support. I can only rate the service call received for a repair to the panel. The technician arrived promptly, listened to the issue and background and made the needed repair. He checked back in at the office at the completion of the service and updated me with status. I was completely satisfied. The office called forty eight hours to make sure I was satisfied. I have only a brief history with DFW but it has been favorable. read more

Recently upgraded our business security systems, and have had a lot more interaction with support. They have been prompt with responses and pleasant to deal with. Monitoring security events via text is a great feature for those of us responsible for responding to those events, if necessary. We have had DFW alarm for 9 years and never had any issues. Last week we had one zone show open and I could not trouble shoot it. Called DFW Alarm and they came out that day and after a few minutes of trouble shooting the issue David replaced two sensors and all is good. Stay away from this company. Unethical billing practices and poor customer service. Installed equipment and then shortly after said that the equipment wouldn't work and I had to upgrade and pay for the upgrade and pay a higher monthly fee. I should have looked here before I went with this company. The owner/ customer service is rude yelled at me and hung up on me I am surprised that this company is still in business. Have been a customer for about years while living in Plano and Allen. They are reliable, affordable and best of all - no contract is required. They have been in business dor more than 30 years. They have only raised their monthly fee once in all the years I've been with them from $12.95 to $14.95. Service is terrific! read more

Worst alarm company ever. They lie to you it is no contract but when it is time to cancel services then you get told you had a contract. They want you to write several letters then fax it to them because they dont take cancellations over the phone, they you get charged for early cancellation. bad bad monitoring I had a break in while my alarm was on and I didnt receive a call from them and the police were not notified. If you love your life stay far away. They deserve 0 stars unfortunately there is no option for 0 stars. read more
