He calls out the poses in "yoga-ese," and the hard core people snap into action. As for me, who has no damned clue what the words meant, I was left to scramble behind, trying to duplicate what they were doing. Poorly. The "instructor"/owner is not remotely friendly. If he is seeking additional clientele, his aloofness, if not downright hostility, certainly isn't helping his cause.

I started to get more involved at Woodside, I even joined the Woodside running team and ran the Detroit International Half-Marathon with a few team members! Nearly a decade was spent trying to find a church for my family. It all stated after my son was born. My boyfriend and I at the time tried to get him baptized. Not even our own church would baptize him because we weren't married. The churches where our parent forked our thousands of dollars to have us go through all the catholic rituals. We sought out several other churches, all which too, turned us away. I was heartbroken, hurt, disappointed and even angry. Aren't we all just Christians trying to make this world a better place?? Then in the spring of 2016 I started to see all the local info about Vacation Bible Schools around our community. My kids have always loved all the VBS they have done. I loved that the Christian world was in their heart. We weren't weekly church goers. Although God was always in our hearts, my husband and I didn't talk much about the Bible much in our home. Until Lakepointe, we hadn't even attended church service for a Christmas or Easter in the last 8 years. Lakepointe is currently a mobile church which means we set up and tear down every Sunday to have our service. We currently have our service at Lutheran High North, located at the North West corner of 24 Mile and Romeo Plank. Our service is every Sunday at 10:30 am and EVERYONE is welcome to come! When I was first introduced to Lakepointe Church I met Pastor Scott at the office (on Van Dyke, south of 21 Mile Road) to learn more about the church. What started as "meet and greet", turned into a confession of feeling lost, alone and confused. I had been on a long search for a church that my family could feel welcome at, a place that we would love to attend and eagerly want to visit. A place where we could just be us, and not feel judged. By the end of our over 2 hours talk I knew this was our church! I instantly felt like I belonged. I laughed, I cried, I confessed that I felt lost and wanted more for me and my family. Pastor Scott just sat and listened with compassion and patience. The peace I felt talking to him made me realize that my search for a church was over. I knew this place was where me and my family belonged. We just had our 2 year anniversary with Lakepointe this summer and I feel so thankful that God lead us to Our Church. Not only do my husband and I enjoy all that Lakepointe has to offer, but our 5 kids are so eager and excited every week to attend. I simply can't say enough good things about what this church has to offer. Not only do we just attend church, but myself and whole family have become involved in so many ways. Not just in our church but in our community. I'm the head of our food pantry that provides for the community and anyone in need. We've provided meals and clothing for sex traffickers, set up "Mom tents" at local festivals and events so mother's could nurse and change their children. We've volunteered at the Tara Grant 5K yearly, and do a dozen of other FREE community events like "Trunk-or-Treat" and "Movie Night" throughout the year. We currently are a mobile church, which means we don't actually have a church building, but that doesn't take away from the awesome services our Pastor Scott gives every Sunday! And our worship group- WOW! I can't tell you how many times our singers and band members have moved me to tears! They are amazing!! If you're looking for somewhere to belong, looking for a Christian based community, that's void of all the "stand-sit-kneel-pray"*repeat*, looking for a fun, laid back, relatable services then please do yourself a favor and come check out Lakepointe and learn more. My Summer Haven!!!!…read more I found Yoga Planet Studio on Groupon and I tried the Unlimited Yoga for a month like Lauren S. A month has passed since I used the Groupon and I still find myself coming back for more. I also managed to buy a 3 months Unlimited Yoga Pack for $199 ($100 Off Summer Special). I am currently addicted to the YinShape Hot Vinyasa Class, a class in a very hot room (around 85-90 F) and the place gets hotter as the class gets bigger. I usually create a puddle of sweat around so I always bring a yoga mat towel on top of my yoga mat to avoid slipping. Face towels are also provided in the studio. Another favorite class of mine is the Slow Flow Candlelight. Everyone should try this. The class is so serene and soothing with candles spread all over the bamboo floor. How relaxing is that??? Giuliana is my favorite instructor so far. She teaches most of my classes. She sets the ambience for the practice and motivates you to breathe (to achieve Victoria's Breath aka ujjayi breathing aka oceanic breath) throughout the practice. Giuliana also encourages you to create a modified pose when the yoga pose is far too advanced. She's very helpful in guiding you with the poses, especially for beginners. Jackie also does a great job teaching. She has a very calm personality that draws you in thus creating a very tranquil mood. The studio is very eco-friendly. From the cool bamboo wood floors to the zero VOC paint on the wall, the whole place is environmentally and socially responsible. The studio is also equipped with 2 restrooms/changing rooms. I have really enjoyed the classes, the atmosphere and, most importantly, the instructors. I have had Giuliana for the majority of my classes, and she does a wonderful job at providing instruction on how to easily flow into the postures and creates a wonderful mood and focus during the classes. I've also had Jackie for a Hot Vinyasa class (she kicked my ass during that class, but in a really good way) and Lindsay for the Ashtanga Elements class. Another great feature about the studio is that everything is made with recycled, chemical-free and toxic-free materials. The studio offers a pretty wide variety of classes at convenient times throughout the day and evening. Also, if you attend a class and find some of the postures difficult, the instructors always offer different, easier options so you can keep with the flow of the class. I've only been practicing here for a few weeks, but the studio has already offered two great discounts on packages. If you're interested in trying yoga for the first time or simply want to try a new studio, keep an eye on the company's website - it posts when discounts and specials are available.

For starters, it is a gorgeous, impeccably designed space. It is calming and welcoming, & every interaction - from greeter to teacher--was warm. The yoga room is lit by candlelight & heated with infrared technology. As someone who found the heat of bikram to be kind of suffocating, this infrared heat truly (as advertised) felt like sunshine. The studio does offer classes of varying degrees of difficulty & experience, but my experience was with the fully-guided primary Practice Flow. As an introduction, I am as far from a yogi as Saturn is from Earth- years of sports have demolished my joints & overtuned my tendons, & I can hardly touch my toes (& the use of the word "hardly" is generous). As such, I was somewhat intimidated to take my first free Practice Flow at Practice Saturday morning. I was worried everyone in the class would be incredibly flexible & amazing & bend circles around me. & honestly, if there was a third party watching the class from the ceiling, they very well may have been! However, throughout the entire class, I did not even notice. Class at Practice is truly a personal experience. You become so tuned in to your own body you do not find yourself searching the room for inspiration or competitors. The room is filled with encouragement & light. It challenged me & awakened a love for yoga I never knew existed. Tommy -the teacher of the class, & studio owner- is fantastic. He is encouraging & takes the time to correct form if it is lacking. He was positive the entire time, which, as a far from perfect perfectionist, I completely appreciated. If you prefer not to be adjusted at all, there are cards available at the front desk that you can leave on your mat & indicate such. The music was great - not overpowering. I felt energized & positive when I walked out the doors of Practice for the first time, & I can hardly wait to enter those doors again. Thank you, Practice & Tommy, for an amazing class!
