Dr. Peter Greene is not one of those doctors. I went to the ER at San Ramon Medical Center with a large, painful kidney stone that was obstructing my ureter. After being given pain medication, I was instructed by the attending physician to follow up with Dr. Greene the next morning for further care. When I arrived at Dr. Greene's office, the experience was disappointing and unprofessional from the start. The office had a noticeable, unpleasant odor, and the receptionist's expression changed as soon as she saw my insurance card--a disapproving look I won't forget. I was asked to wait in a cramped room, only for a nurse to inform me that they couldn't help me because my insurance wasn't accepted. When I offered to pay out of pocket due to my severe pain and need for treatment, the nurse stepped out to check with Dr. Greene, only to return minutes later saying, "The doctor said no." It was abundantly clear that Dr. Greene prioritizes insurance and bureaucracy over providing compassionate care to patients. This experience left me feeling dismissed and devalued at a time when I was in extreme pain and urgently needed medical help. Dr. Greene exemplifies everything that is wrong with our medical system today, showing a lack of empathy and an unwillingness to help patients who don't fit his financial model. This is not the kind of doctor you want to trust with your health or well-being.

In less than 30 minutes, Dr. V listened to me, examined my foot, diagnosed the problem and fixed it. He carefully cut out some deep and very hard callouses (caused by a lot of hiking in fairly rough terrain), with the immediate result that I could walk without pain or a limp for the first time in weeks. Just as importantly, he gave me a lot of practical advice about various things I can do to prevent a recurrence. And he assured me that, if there is a recurrence, I can readily schedule another appointment with him to fix it again. I only wish all medical problems were this fixable, and all medical practitioners were this competent. Hooray for Dr. V!!! I enthusiastically recommend him for treatment of your foot problems.

My dad is 82 and needs his toenails clipped regularly. He missed his last appt so today his nails were super long. Dr. Huey is incredibly patient and gentle and isn't (visibly) grossed out by my dad's feet and fungus issues. The staff here are also very friendly. I love Dr. Huey's shoe collection. It's much bigger here than the Berkeley office. He says patients just keep giving him shoes. There's some beautiful glass ones, enamel, a recent one from Thailand. And he's not a shoe snob either, there's plastic wind up shoes in the collection too.

I had recently undergone back surgery and mentioned that my leg had been hurting. Even though I was there for my hip, Dr. Feng immediately took the concern seriously. He stopped what he was doing, performed a thorough examination of both of my legs, and told me he was concerned I might have blood clots. He sent me directly to the hospital for testing, where it was confirmed that I had blood clots in both legs. I am incredibly grateful for Dr. Feng's attentiveness, compassion, and professionalism. His willingness to listen caretully and go beyond the immediate reason for my visit made all the difference. I truly believe his actions may have saved my life, and I will always be thankful to have had him as my doctor.

It stated I had a full thickness full width tear in multiple parts of my rotator cuff. Dr. Bader caught the mistake, and ordered another MRI because he believed the Labrum was the issue, not the rotator cuff. Some surgeons wouldn't think twice and trust the radiologist word, he saved me from a crazy surgery. Additionally, Workers comp originally denied the repairs needed to my labrum, they wanted me to do 2 surgeries... However, Dr. Bader went to bat for me and he went into surgery and fixed my torn labrum in 1 go. His bed side manner is top tier as well, this guy is the real deal and I definitely recommend him.

March of this year my right distal bicep tendon tore completely off my bone. It was during the beginning of the quarantine so I was really nervous about having surgery but this type of injury needs to have surgery as soon as possible otherwise your arm will be disabled the rest of your life. I have Kaiser and was very disappointed in ther response to my injury and told me surgery would probably be weeks out. So I contacted Dr. Laura Timmerman and she told me to immediately visit her office after ordering an MRI. Despite the quarantine and obstacles in her way to quickly do an operation, she prevailed and within 72 hours of my injury she operated on my arm at the Sequoia Surgery Center which was magnificent. It's now been two months and although still painful I'm able to start arm curls again and have about 90% mobility of my arm. I expect a full recovery in no time. So if you want the BEST surgeon in the world Dr. Laura Timmerman is the one for you or your kid. I had rotator cuff surgery performed by Dr. Timmerman a week ago. From what I understand, the tear…read morewas fairly substantial, and it was not automatic that surgery would be able to repair it. Also, from what I understand, including the pictures she showed me, she was successful in reattaching it. Without being an expert on these things, it still seems to me that Dr. Timmerman is an experienced and skilled surgeon. That, of course, is by far and away the most important thing in looking for a surgeon. The reason I am not giving her an unreserved five star rating is the following: In our postoperative visit one week after the surgery, I felt Dr. Timmerman was very rushed. She showed me pictures of the shoulder and the surgery, which I appreciated, but kind of rushed through her explanation of what the pictures represent. As somebody who has zero knowledge or understanding of such things, I really did not understand it all and did not feel comfortable to ask her to repeat her explanations. Nor did she really take time to just sit down and say, "OK, how are you feeling? How is everything ?" I did not come away feeling clear on what I can and cannot do during the entire three months of my recovery period, nor on what the prognosis is for a fairly full recovery of the use of my shoulder.The whole appointment was maybe five minutes and I was asking her questions as she literally had 1 foot out the door of the room. Now I understand that doctors can be very busy, but I really do feel like they have to make time to create an atmosphere in which a patient can feel comfortable asking questions. After all, the recovery period is important. I am not sure how to say this: I appreciate the experience and apparent skill that Dr. Timmerman brings to the table. But as just some older guy who just wants to live out his remaining years being comfortable, active, and as productive as he can, I have to wonder if in the field of sports medicine us older people are sufficiently recognized for who we are.

Dr. Brandel is the best. I waited a few extra days to get checked out. When I went in I had some…read moreissues with the infection spreading to the liver. Went to John Muir in Walnut Creek. They ran a bunch of test. It was determined that I had appendicitis. The hope was that the antibiotics would take care of it but that didn't work. Dr Brandel gave me the options with the 3rd one being the worst and resulting in an ICU visit. Luckily he was able to remove the super inflamed appendix robotically which resulted in 4 smaller incisions which was the first option. Surgery was smooth and now I'm about 3 weeks removed and into the healing phase. Dr Brandel was direct in answering all the questions I had and I can't thank him enough for helping me get back to my normal.

I went into the emergency department at John Muir in Walnut Creek Labor Day 2021 with excruciating…read moreabdominal pain. After hours of waiting, I was informed by the ER doctor that a routine appendectomy was needed and I would be able to go home that evening or the next day. I awoke from the surgery with Brandel telling me my appendix burst as he was removing it. I ended up with peritonitis, sepsis, E-Coli, abdominal abscess (for which a drainage tube was surgically inserted in my buttocks). I was in the hospital for 8 days, then returned to the ER 2 weeks later with continued infection which was treated again with a different round of antibiotics. I had constant sharp pain in my right shoulder for 3+ weeks due to the unnecessarily high amount of gas Brandel pumped into me for the surgery. I also had the drainage tube in my butt for 5 days LONGER than necessary because Brandel didn't have time to take it out--he wasn't in his office and told me to go to John Muir ER and he would take it out in between surgeries when he had time. He said he didn't have a colleague who could remove it, and also suggested I find a doctor to take it out. The lack of follow-up care was unbelievable. I could only sleep on my left side because of the tube, and was miserably uncomfortable and sleep deprived due to his lack of care. He had the gall to write on my daily chart that I was alert (he usually woke me up every morning--most mornings I don't remember him being there because I was so out of it), and comfortable ( I was NEVER comfortable in the hospital or for a month following his botched surgery). I'm sure those were just 'boxes' he quickly checked off without any consideration. I lost over 20 pounds during this fiasco, and was very very sick. I will never go to John Muir ER again if they allow doctors like Brandel to practice there.
