Wow I was very impressed. I was able to request a butterfly needle and not get flack or have the person run away and get another perosn. I was only poked once and didn't have a bruise where the needle went in. I was glad they did not have to poke my hand or collapse a vein. I did take the stairs from the 4th floor since the line for the elevator was out the door. But what was disturbing is the rude and uptight receptionist that sits at the front ( wearing glasses). Wow receptionist !!! Pls ask your customer nicely to file out the application,eye contact is nice and how about NOT slamming the clipboard on the front desk and specking unkindly to the customer. I always come here on the weekends because I've been on accutane for about 8 months. I have to get my blood drawn for it every month. I go right when they're open at 7:30am. I always just park downstairs because when I come so early there's no parking attendant at that time. When I come that early there's never a line too. So try and come early. The staff are friendly and attentive. There's a fair amount of seating here and they have water too. I recommend this location because its easy for me and if you come early you don't have to wait. I have a medical condition that requires me to take blood tests regularly (used to be every month, but now it's every quarter). Unfortunately for me, I have very tiny veins and drawing blood from me is notoriously difficult. Even after I've sucked down glasses of warm water or apple juice just before the blood test to try to pump up my veins. I've been to other competitor labs (cough, Clinical Labs) where an inexperienced tech actually twisted a needle while still in my arm, claiming I had "twisty veins." My husband had to burst into the room to save me when he heard me crying. In NYC I suffered for two hours in my endocrinologist's office at Weill Cornell while four different nervous nurses attempted to draw 8 vials of blood from my arm. Those unsuccessful attempts always ended with gauze bandages on both my arms and a huge bandaid on my knuckle where they finally were able to draw blood. But in Hawaii, this Diagnostic Laboratories location at Ala Moana Center is the BEST! I always request Sanae because she is so gentle, quick and accurate. She is ALWAYS able to find a vein in my arm. In fact, it's almost as if she's the "blood test whisperer," Sanae carefully inspects my arm, like a mommy caring for her child, gently rubs my skin with alcohol and then poof, the whole needle part seems over in a second! If you have hard-to-find veins, you MUST ask for Sanae! But if she's not working that day, the other techs seem just as experienced, calm and confident. I did have a younger male tech a couple of months ago who needed a little more hand-holding so I told him to just poke me on the top of my hand where a big juicy vein was located, but it was fine. If I need to get poked for blood in Hawaii, this is the only place I trust. read more

There is a small waiting area but due to the large number of people most of us were lined along the hallway blocking other businesses doors. No one enjoys having to get lab work done. I liked the fact this location offered Saturday hours given it can be rough having to work throughout the week and most offices have typical business hours. This office location is conveniently accessible since its next to Ala Moana and I can serve a multi- purpose to get things done on a Saturday morning. Service was quick despite the lady having to call to verify test requested by my PCP. I think it's important she took the extra time to confirm information to avoid error. It reflects the worker is responsible and serious about her job. What really was impressive was how apologetic she was. Not necessary or expected with her extra effort with the sincere apology for the wait time. She didn't keep me waiting that long and I understand she's just going through proper process to double check. I prefer that actually to wait a bit longer instead of something go wrong and I possibly would have to return for another visit and redo the blood draw again. Now that would trigger my irritability. In addition, the worker used this tape to wrap the gauze in the area blood was withdrawn from my right arm. The tape did not leave a sticky residue or no discomfort was experienced when I was ready to remove the tape an hour later. In past visits at other locations, I cannot remember the type of tape used, but this visit the tape was a noticeable aspect. Typically, minor things of this nature goes unappreciated. Anyway, it was pretty cool how innovative supplies like tape serves a purpose yet it's ironic how its tape that appeared to not "stick!" That's pretty cool to me... It was very pleasant to start my day here. I would definitely return here again and I would recommend this location to others. I'm writing this review because I wanted to commend Jordan on her wonderful attitude and service. I went in this morning and found out I needed to get SEVEN vials of blood withdrawn. I already hate getting blood drawn and the most I've done was three vials, so I was very nervous. Jordan was so patient with me and didn't make me feel silly for being nervous. She was very understanding and had a calm and soothing demeanor. I hardly felt anything when she inserted the needle and she was very efficient. Located at the Ala Moana Building. Can park at the Ala Moana Shopping Center, Ewa Mauka parking garage and walk over to the building. Accessible on the 2nd and 3rd floor of the parking, is 3rd and 4th floor in the Ala Moana building, respectively. I always get confused and end up on the wrong floor trying to get back to the parking lot/structure. Be sure that your doctor has already sent in a work up order to the lab. So they know what they're supposed to test for and whether or not you're supposed to fast. They also do drug tests too. You enter #506, pick a number. When your number gets called, give them your ID (and insurance card if applicable), sign some paperwork and they send you to a room. My experience with the phlebotomist was fantastic. I hate needles, but she was able to take my blood efficiently and without more pain than necessary. No bruising either! Super easy to work with. Just like that, in and out! read more

getting bloodwork done is not the funnest of activities but this DLS made it as "painless" as possible! first of all, it is conveniently located next to the ala moana shopping center (read: free parking). get poked, then reward yourself with some shopping or food! :) secondly, the workers were really nice and compassionate during my 3-hour (4-draw) gestational diabetes test. i felt like they were genuinely excited about my pregnancy, even though we had just met! a bonus is that i overheard one of the ladies speaking korean, and another speaking chinese; i'm sure this is extremely helpful for non-english speaking patients. tips for an efficient visit: once you enter, go straight to the reception desk, take a number and have a seat (they also have a water cooler in case you need some fluids). get your paperwork (always have a copy in case they didn't receive the fax from your doctor) and insurance card ready. from what i observed, most people were in and out within 10 minutes (lucky them)! bottom line: i hope i don't have to get more blood sucked from me, but at least i know a "lab-ulous" place to go now! My son had to go to a DLS to get a blood test. Since we were at Ala Moana I decided to walk over to this location. When we arrived we were the second in line. My son was a little scared so i had to get him a jamba juice first. When we were waiting he started asking questions and was getting scared. The staff called his name and we went to the cubicle for blood draw. The staff said to hold him in case he moves. My son was strong and didn't cry or try to move. The staff was so impressed that he didn't cry or move that she gave him 5 stickers which made him very happy. Its nice that the staff really care about young children. read more

It is the most convenient location when you are in the area. I like the fact that is located in the same building as my doctor's office and the mall is just right next to it! That gives this place ample parking and great locating to grab some grub if I ever need to fast prior to getting blood work. Whenever I do come, it is always busy but the wait is not too long. I was in this lab because it is in the same building as my doctor. I normally go to the lab on Gulick, where they know what they are doing. I got sunny, I think. She started off by inserting the needle to the side of where I normally am "poked" saying I had small veins. I have never been told that. It took her about four minutes to draw three vials with one more to go. I was irritated! I kept saying that NEVER had anyone taken so long. She said the blood had stopped flowing and she was going to have to remove that needle to insert at another spot. NEVER have I been poked twice. I am over 70 and I do this three times a year. I told her I am out of here, goodbye. She asked me to sit down and went to call someone else. The next person came in,apologized, inserted the needle in the other arm and within seconds she was done. I have my Dentist as the same building at this location. It's a pretty convenient location to go to since the building is connected to Ala Moana Shopping Center. I went down here one time for an employment drug test. Not sure if I should state the actual process since it maybe somewhat graphic for fellow Yelp readers and reviewers to read but I guess in overall it was just your typical average process. If you do take a pre-employment druge test of any kind just be sure to drink some liquids and hold it before you have to go so that it isn't hard to go when you have to go when the time comes. The staff and customer service is Ok. At some other Diagnostic Laboratory Services places, the staff age demographic ranges from really young people to older people. I went in today for a pre-employment drug test. They had me pee in a cup that did not have a top. The employee told me not to wash my hands after, which is standard. When I was finished she took the cup and poured some of the urine into a capsule on the same table she was doing paperwork. Then she had me sign two forms before she let me wash my hands. It was clear that sanitation and contamination were not priorities. My company also told me it was my responsibility to inform the testers of any medication I take. When she did not ask if I was taking any meds, I brought it up, as I have some prescriptions, and she hurriedly responded that if the lab has any questions they'll call me. If you have lab tests to have done this is the fastest and most professional laboratory I've been to for a very long time. The staff is friendly and they are very good at what they do. If you want to avoid the crowd they open at 7 AM be there by 6:45 AM 6:50 AM and you should be the first one to be taken cared of. By 7:15 AM they would be already 10 people waiting after you with more checking in, so I advise be early. read more

Most of the time, the staff is pleasant, efficient, and professional. I'm there and out in a flash, within 15-20 minutes of arrival, especially if arriving right at the office's opening time, or right after the first hour (to avoid the early-AM rush). Though I'm a so-called "hard stick" (veins sometimes difficult to find), I've never been poked more than necessary, and the service is competent and quick. Today, though, I arrived around 9:40 am, stomach growling from hunger for the fasting aspect of my lab test, to a mostly empty office (most clients probably thought it was closed, as it had been the day before, due to a holiday). The Asian female staff who took my doctor's bloodworks order was able to accommodate me immediately, without my having to take a number and wait. Score! She was super friendly, almost too much, as -- halfway through my desk intake (where you give the staff your picture ID and insurance proof, and they photocopy them) -- she looked at her watch, and said loudly, so her co-workers at the desk and I both heard, "Wow, it's 10 am already!", then did a little, seated, happy dance in celebration of how quickly the time was passing (earlier, when I'd called to see if this office was open on a Saturday 7/4 because it might be a holiday, I was told they closed at noon on that day). She didn't excuse herself to me, or say why the impromptu outburst, but just returned my card and beckoned me to the blood-drawing rooms. Her body language was super casual and dance-y. That's not normally something I mind--I far prefer to be served by happy employees, at positive and cheery workplaces, than the opposite. But when we went into the room, and she started the process of getting my arm prepared for the blood drawing, her legs went way slack under her chair, so that she was slumping in it and thrusting them at me. I thought, "O-kay, we're really on break today, starting the vacation early." Still, I wasn't too irritated. However, I looked at the sign posted in each sample-drawing room that reminds patients that the lab techs should ask you for your full name and birthdate, then make sure your name is properly on the label of the sample's tube. For the first time in many decades of going to DLS, this particular lab tech didn't ask my birthdate, but instead, just asked to confirm my last and middle names. When I was leaving, she stopped me partway in the hall, and had remembered to show me to the sample tubes to confirm my name's correctness (usually this is done right before you're dismissed, not after). At this point, I'm like, "Whoa." That's one too many things. Dude, I know you're pau in, like, two hours, and maybe yesterday, everyone got the day off, but while at work, you need to, you know, actually do the job properly. It's okay for, say, store clerks or restaurant hostesses to be somewhat sloppy and off-the-cuff, but really, for technicians in medical offices, this does not produce confidence of care. This was probably the exception to the rule: just one day (a semi-holiday) and just one lab tech in years of competent service. For the majority of blood-drawings I've experienced here, which've been just fine, I'm giving 3 stars. AND: Right downstairs on the 3rd floor, mall (not street) level, of the building, is AJA's kitchen/kiosk, where you can get a quick bento or breakfast or musubi, after your test. read more

I never ever write reviews, but this is outages! My doctor had told me that he had faxed in my papers and all I needed to do was waltz in. I arrived and the employees were just sitting around. So I walked up to the front desk and told them that my doc had faxed them my paper. They then said they didn't get anything . Then asked me a bunch of questions and made me feel like an idiot. So then I had to go to work in kailua. My doc then called so I told him they didn't get the fax. He said he faxed it and he had the confirmation papers in his hands saying they did get it. So he had to call them and stuff. Then I had to take work offv and head back down to town, to get it done. When I walked back in there they looked at me with stink eye look. .. so over all the Filipino girls shouldn't be there. But the guy was really helpful and nice. read more

My review is based on my latest visit (10/19/2016,around 9:00 am) to a Diagnostic Laboratory Services LLC (referred as DLS here) sample colleting office located at 1441 Kapiolani Blvd. Suite 506, Honolulu, Hawaii 96814. It is also based mainly on the behavior of a female staff whom I did not ask for a name (but I will refer her here as "Best Employee F" , and by the way, Best Employee F has a rather big black mole close to her nose on the left side of her face ). Based on the above information, I am betting everyone who works at this DLS location knows who I am referring to. According to any business standard, Best Employee F is a trouble-making employee for any business. This the only DLS location that I have visited for many years and I have always felt that the service provided by the sample collecting (well, just blood drawing actually, because I obviously have to collect my own urine) staff was quite ok until yesterday (10/19/2016, about 9:00 am). Perhaps this was because I have always visited the DLS location very early in the morning, usually way before 8:00 am (because I have to diet for at least 8 hours before sample collection) . Unfortunately I went to this DLS location at around 9:00 am because I had another appointment at 10:05 am for an ultrasound (for which I have to diet for at least 8 hours too ) in the same building but on the third floor. When I arrived at this DLS location, Best Employee F came forward to me and asked for the usual, i.e. doctor's order, ID, and insurance card, have I dieted, which were all good. Unfortunately, I wasn't aware that I was chewing a piece of gum so Best Employee F stared, and I mean "stared" , at me and said, "You are chewing gums. I have to call your doctor or else." I asked Best Employee F "Why?" very politely. Without asking me if the gum I was chewing was sugar-free, Best Employee F said" You are chewing gums and it affects blood sugar. I have to call your doctor or else". I said 'My blood sugar has always been ok" very politely. Best Employee F said" I have to call your doctor or else". I then said" Ok, please call my doctor" very politely. So Best Employee F called my doctor for about 30 seconds and then told me the test will be considered non-diet and I said "It is ok " very politely. I was then led by Best Employee F to a cubicle for blood drawing. After Best Employee F finished printing out the labels for the blood collecting tunes and setting up the blood drawing device, I asked Best Employee F " Shouldn't I double check if the patient information on labels were correct?" very politely. I asked this question because sometimes the blood drawing technicians (many different persons, mostly females, in many different visits) asked me to double check before drawing blood, sometimes they asked me to double check after drawing blood. I personally believe that it would make much more sense if the patient double check the labels first before any sample including blood is taken. The reason and logic is simple: (A) if you draw the blood first and check label later, you risk collecting wrong sample from the wrong patient, no matter how low the chance might be; (B) if you let the patient double check the label first and then draw blood, it will be risk-free because you will always collect the right sample from the right patient. So I told Best Employee F my humble logic and concern very politely and was looking forward to a logical response from Best Employee F. Unfortunately, Best Employee F did not seem to be a person that is happy to answer any customer's concern or question. Best Employee F stared at me again as if I was questing how a brain surgeon opens a patient's skull. Best Employee F said " We are NOT allowed to show the information on the label to the patient before the blood sample is collected". At the same time, Best Employee F very unhappily showed me the label which I double checked. Frankly, I felt sorry for the company's policy and for Best Employee F to violate this policy. Now here comes the worst part of Best Employee F's behavior. After I double checked the labels and Best Employee F started setting up the blood drawing device, I noticed that she was setting up a thin tubing about 12-inches long between the needle (which obviously will go into my vein) and collecting tube. I do have a Ph D. degree in Pharmacology but, unfortunately, I am not familiar with how many devices you can use to draw blood from a patient. So I talked to myself softly "This looks different" because it was different from all of my previous experiences in which the technicians used a consistent device that was different from what Best Employee F was setting up. Wouldn't it be nice if Best Employee F just said" Mr. Chen, don't worry, this a better way to draw blood!" How wonderful would that be? Obviously it wasn't my lucky day. If fact, it was not even a normal day for any one! Best Employee F stared at me again ( by the way, I have to mention that I am not bad read more
