I like getting my blood work at the Diagnostic Laboratory Service location at the Queen's POB III, since they open early as 6 am and as of now the parking is free for the first hour. I used to go to the Kaheka's location since they open early too, but you need to be early before the parking attendant starts working, but one time the stalls were mostly taken by the taxi cab vehicles parked overnight, so it may be a challenge to get a stall sometimes. The parking rates were going to increased at that time, and you needed to get out within the grace period that I remembered, otherwise you would have to pay for the parking. The DLS worker, Kwon (?) , would be good since I was a hard draw! it may take long on a busy day to make it out quick, so after that, I've been going to the Queen's POB III location. At this Queen's POB III has a lot of parking stalls, and the 2nd level which the levels goes by alphabets -maybe C/D level has mostly handicap stalls, so I just go to the E/F level which is the next level up. You take a number at DLS and either wait inside or outside. I try to go before work, but no way at 6 am since I heard many wait in line before they open. If I'm lucky and if I finish early, i get something from the cafe called Cooking Fresh in the lobby for breakfast. After a holiday or usually Mondays were the busy days. Service was good and I think they get more workers come in at 7am. You can pay or scan your parking ticket at the parking machine as you leave to the parking elevators from the 1st floor lobby. If the parking camera scanned & printed your license plate on your parking ticket, the parking gate arm will open as you slowly exit through or rescan your ticket as you leave. That's if you don't owe any more money. Most blood tests' results are ready same day unless test(s) are ones sent to the mainland. You can log in your account and check your blood tests results. I heard from before that DLS at that time was less than Clinical Lab. One doctor has a Clinical Lab inside his office and I remember paying a little more after my insurance covered. I heard some visiting Japanese patients from Japan don't have insurance so they pay out of pocket in CASH and it's less through DLS. I don't know if it's still is now. I just like all my blood work results kept with one laboratory place. I believe DLS is still own by Queen's Health Systems and it also appears in your My Chart account. read more

I told employee that mom needed urine sample so wrote her name on cup. Bathroom has 2 toilet rails on side and back. It was difficult to use both walker and transporter in space. Easy to find within Queens POB 3, nice staff and free garage parking for first hour or cheap street parking nearby. Will return to this location, thank you! *bonus points for immediate notification through their app upon checking in at the front desk that notes "you have new samples processing." Visited another location a week ago (Waterfront Plaza). Very different experience but already received my mail & results from them. read more

Front counter people need to be more aware and considerate of people waiting. Pull a number and wait, but others come in, don't pull number walk straight to counter and get helped immediately.‍. Would say something but the patients that go to that particular DLS are kind of sketchy so what's the sense. Sometime peace is better than being right. Go to the DLS in POB 2 up the street. First review of 2022: DLS! Most of my reviews are for restaurants, but I want to change it up a little! If you work in the Downtown area or have an appointment at Queen's this location is so convenient! It's located in POB 3, which is the one closest to the Board of Water Supply and Honolulu Hale. What I like about this location is that they're open pretty early. I've never had to go when they first open, but it's a good option to have especially if you want to go before work. Tip: Look up the location on Google and see how busy they can get, to best determine when to go. I've gone to this location a handful of times. Each time I go, I try to plan it when there'll be little people (aka not at lunch). Each time I went, I quickly got into a chair. One of my tests did require me to stay for a bit. I didn't notice it did get busy but it was a little random. Overall, the turn around is pretty quick. If you have to take a number, I'd stay in the office. One lady had to wait outside for awhile because and the nurses didn't outside. Good thing she came in to check on the number she pulled to get served. In terms of customer service, everyone is really nice and helpful. Parking: there is parking available in the building. Last item, if this location is busy, you can also walk up the hill and go to POB 2. read more

This DLS location is located in Queens POB III on the left (across from the coffee shop). Its busy, mainly because a lot of Queens staff and patients do their testing here, but its also organized. You simply grab a number and when you get called make sure you have your photo ID + medical card available. Quick scanning then within five minutes you should be called into a little cubicle for having your blood drawn. That was my experience. Now about my phlebotomy... (1) When I tell you that Im a phlebotomist it should push the staff to really not mess up. I know my veins and I know how to draw from them. (2) Please dont ever mumble to yourself 'I dont feel it' or 'I hope I get it' as youre drawing my blood because that really discredits the trust I have for you. (3) I bruised. Im glad that my testing was done in a timely manner but getting my blood drawn was just something I wouldnt want anyone else to experience. read more

Located on the street level of the Queens POB III, this laboratory features 6AM opening which is great for those who wish to get their physician ordered diagnostics out of the way before going into work or enjoying their day. They're open Monday through Saturday. There is an attached parking structure but I've not taken advantage of it as we live within a walkable distance. I suspect that they will validate (either partially or fully) your parking lot ticket when since you're at their facility. Upon entry, go to the reception counter with your ID, insurance and paperwork (unless your physician already transmitted it), take a number and have a seat. The receptionists are generally quite cheery and do show compassion or empathy so the patients can feel welcomed. I go to this laboratory early (sometimes, I'm actually there "scratching at their door"before 6AM) but there have been wait times as I'm competing with folks who are trying to get done with their test then head into work or head home. However, I'm not usually in a rush so, it's okay with me as they call out the numbers pretty quickly and this location has several technicians to assist everyone. Having worked and been a patient in hospitals before, I've never had a fear of or being stuck by needles. I often watch the technician do their work on me. That being said, I have to give the "vampires", er phlebotomist a lot of credit for being friendly and efficient for what and as many times they do. The technicians here are efficient and thankfully, I've not had any issues with painful needle sticks which is why I choose to come here other than for convenience. read more

I had an okay experience here. I have had others that weren't so good at other locations, which is why I used to go to a competitor. But most of my doctors are affiliated with Queens, and Queens has a contract with Diagnostic. Diagnostic actually has labs in POBs I, II, and this one in III, which I didn't realize until recently. During these COVID-19 days, you'll get a temperature check once you get inside the door to the building. If you pass, you get a sticker to wear on your shirt. I went at 4:30 pm, a half-hour before Diagnostic closed. It's on the first floor and is accessible, except there is a heavy door that does not open automatically. There used to be a "take a number" dispenser, as though you were at the deli, but that's gone now, for the sake of safety. Fortunately when I entered there were no other patrons. I could see how things could get confusing if there were. There was one person behind the large front desk who paid no attention to me so I stood there awkwardly for a few moments before saying something. Once I did, though, she helped me right away. She had me go directly to the first station while she made copies of my ID and insurance card, and then she brought them to me at the station. Both my veins pop out, especially on the right, so they are nearly impossible to miss. So when she took awhile before the needle stick, my stomach sank, but it turned out to be fine. This was just her style. (The reason I preferred their competitors was because I had some bad experiences with their phlebotomists at other locations.) I had to do a urinalysis this time, and the bathroom was at the back. What was really weird was that there was no soap dispenser! I looked everywhere in that bathroom. I washed my hands with just water and mentioned the lack of soap to the phlebotomist. There was a staff use sink which had soap close to the bathroom she said I could use. So that was it, all done in maybe fifteen - twenty minutes, for check-in, three tubes of blood, and a urine sample. It might be a very different experience if a lot of people are waiting, but they did have something like eight blood draw stations. (That assumes they have enough people working during peak times.) I haven't signed up for Diagnostic's online test results notification, but it's okay because results go to my electronic medical record and I can check them there. I needed to get some bloodwork done for my annual checkup, and my mom recommend this DLS location; I'm glad I took her advice! I arrived a little after 7am and there was no line. Shortly after pulling my number, I was greeted by Blake (Phlebotomist) and he asked if I'd been helped already; I said no. He asked me for my ID, lab papers, and insurance card, and mentioned that he needs a minute to type everything out and he'll take me back right after. Prior to drawing my blood, he informed me how much tubes were required and said that the B1 tube needed to be wrapped in foil to keep the light out- no one has ever explained things in this much detail before and I've had a lot of blood drawn over the years. While drawing the blood he was really gentle and I literally felt nothing! He also told me when he was pulling the needle out, which felt like nothing! He was super gentle!! After putting the bandage on he told me to keep pressure for 5 minutes so it doesn't bruise and to remove the bandage after 15 minutes; no longer than an hour. After confirming that the labels were correct, he thanked me and wished me a good day. If you need your blood drawn I highly (HIGHLY) recommend Blake!! You will not be disappointed!! read more

This branch of Diagnostic Laboratory Services is located on the ground floor of the Queen's physician's office building 3. It's very convenient for me because they are located just below my doctor's office. If you have a deductible with your insurance policy, you may pay cash immediately at the time of service and there is a 50% discount. In my case, I have a $500 deductible per year And I never make my deductible so I simply pay about a $130 for my comprehensive annual blood test. It's a very simple procedure, have your doctor fill out what you what tests he wants done, pick a number, and have your ID card like a driver's license and insurance card ready for inspection. The blood draw it takes only about one minute and today because there was almost no line, I was in-and-out in about 15 minutes. Fast, convenient, and easy! read more

Memphis was an excellent phlebotomist for me today. I have small veins and often the phlebotomist digs around and I get a huge bruise. Not today! Memphis assessed made one small poke and hit the vein perfectly where the blood flowed fast. It was almost painless. Hope I get him every time. read more

I visited earlier in the week with 2 attempts. Both times fasted for about an 18 hour period with the mindset no food can be eaten after 8pm the night prior. My first attempt occurred with a miscommunication since my PCP said the location in the BOH building near Ala Moana would be open till 5pm. I showed up after work at 445pm to find out they were already closed. That in itself was frustrating especially given I was so hungry already. I didn't have much time to get to any other location in a timely manner with others within reasonable distance would closed by 5pm. I opted to get some food (Hawaiian at Poi Bowl in the mall) and accept I couldn't control the situation despite how irritable I was besides being light-headed with nothing in my system for a long period of time. The following day, 10/2... again needed to fast to attempt a better outcome than the day before. This time I did research on different office locations and to create a plan, so I didn't have to waste time. Queens was the most reasonable and convenient to pursue. They offer 3 offices, one in each of the POB I, II & III. I thought that was ideal with the accessibility. I attempted to go to the POB I thinking they closed at 430pm, I showed up around 420ish. The window was closed but sign indicated a confusing message stating at 5pm toxicology test is available. I think signage could be better since not everyone would be clear on that "toxicology" message. I flagged a nearby hospital worker in passing and popped in the private door for employees and asked status of hours to a DSL rep and I heard lady say, "Come back at 5pm." Then, I felt like would it be faster to wait about a half hour till they reopen or try to attempt to get myself to the alternate office in POB I or II before 5pm which honestly would be a risk with not know how to efficiently navigate the QMC hospital to get there before close office at 5pm. I already was getting frustrated along with irritable from not eating since 8pm the night before. I opted to rush out after getting info from the greeter lady at the desk in the front. She was friendly and clear with instructions. Would it be too much to ask for her to guide me since there were time limitations (j/jk)... I was able to exit and head over to POB III DLS. I arrived and office was empty, so I was relieved expecting quick service which I did. Ladies were very courteous, BUT I almost got turned away with the concern, "you fasted for 18 hours, that's too long. Doctor usually recommend 10-12 hours at the most for full fast and best results. With being shocked, I almost became reactive and ready to snap, but I refrained. I followed up with a few questions, so the lady consulted a coworker and they were debating to to take me or turn me away. The more questions I asked, the more awkward it appeared since staff wasn't sure how to respond. I heard their concern that 18 hours of "fasting" was excessive. I think I would've felt better if I got a straight answer, "Sorry, better you try come back because the results maybe affected since you went too long without eating." But, they took me in and it was fast and easy. The DLS tech was gentle and did not leave behind any red Mark's. It was obvious she was doing the job a long time with her approach. Surprisingly I wasn't focused on eating, I was more relieved that it was over and done with. Finally, I could get me something to eat and carry on my day since that office closed at 5pm and I got in by 445pm. The other thing worth mentioning is DLS has a system you can register online to access your results. It's a quick setup and, so worth it. Next day came and my results were viewable. Of course a typical patient may not know how to fully read and interpret the numbers, but easy to google and relate numbers and terms to try to get an idea of what's going on with your body prior to my next PCP appointment where she would review the test info results with me in detail. *Lesson learned, dont go 18 hours or any excessive amount of time without eating! read more

At 5:50 AM on Monday there was a small line (3 people ahead of me) waiting for the office to open. Parking was very easy, as the previous reviewer mentioned. The wait isn't very long as they have multiple techs waiting to draw your blood. I've tried the Kaheka Street branch as well and this one is much better. read more

Once you give them you're stuff and if you tell them you want it back they won't give it to you. Additionally, they have horrible customer service. All the workers their including their manager talks shit about you behind the desk but you can obviously see and hear them. I never ever even if my life depended on it will be going back to this place. I was here yesterday and they insisted that I didn't give them enough and that I couldn't leave the premises until I had enough. My HR said I could leave and go back. I came back this morning and all they kept saying was this was the girl yesterday. Blah blah blah Then they lost my paper work and the manager insisted they had to send it in when my HR told me to return today. Morons! read more

Not sure if I should blast HIS name on here, but the way he was speaking to an elderly man and his family is unacceptable and just plain RUDE. Not sure if this is the correct profession for him. This lab located in physicians office building 3 (POB). It wasn't my choice to come here. They move like molasses ...

Went here for a recent blood test. Been going to this one for a while because it is on my way to work. And as other people have said, it is empty in the mornings. Let me preface this with the fact that I'm not scared of needles. I've had many blood tests, I've had IVs and these never bother me. Well, this last time was a nightmare. This young woman was very inexperienced. I knew it was not a good sign when she took so long just trying to pick a vein in my arm. But I thought, how bad could it be. I've had them miss before so they just try again. What a fool I was. She jabbed the needle in and it was incredibly painful. Plus she missed the vein completely. I could see the needle sticking in BESIDE the vein. I was not quite yelling but saying "Ow! Ow! Ow! You missed the vein!" She panicked and reached for a cotton ball but she left the needle sticking out of my arm. Yes, she let go and left the needle in my arm. I was like "OMG, pull the needle out!" She finally pulled it out. Wow! I didn't know it could hurt like that! So she says, "Let me try again." What?! So I told her to use my other arm because it has bigger veins and my arm was throbbing. Again, she takes a while hunting for the vein even though I can plainly see it. She jabs the needle in again. And again, the incredible pain! AND SHE MISSED IT AGAIN! I yelled, "Ow! You missed again!" This time, instead of pulling the needle out, she pulls the needle back a little and starts jabbing around a few times until blood starts flowing. Seriously? All the while I'm writhing around in agony and yelling "Ow! Ow! Ow!" She says, "do you want me to pull it out?" I'm like, "No, just get the blood, I'm not doing this again!" So she fills the vial (thank goodness it was only 1 vial this time). But then she does it again - she lets go of the needle and leaves it sticking out of my arm while I'm yelling at her "Take it out! Take it out!" She finally comes back to me and pulls it out and loosely tapes a cotton ball to my arm and tells me to put pressure on it. How am I supposed to do that on both arms? She should have at least wrapped my arms in the elastic bandaging. All the while, other staff members were walking past and desperately trying NOT to look into my booth. None of them offered to help or ask if everything was okay. Like I said, it was virtually empty so they heard everything. When I came out of the booth, the entire staff scattered and pretended to be very busy. A supervisor or more senior person should have come to find out what was going on or taken over. But nope. Nothing and no one. The first needle poke was still bleeding 12 hours later. Friends at work said I should have taken a picture of this woman so I would know to avoid her in the future. I told them, believe me, I will never forget her face. read more

I usually go to this location for blood tests, and the staff here is okay. My issue is with their billing department. They billed me for services here a year and half later. I had a different insurance plan at the time of service which had a deductible that was covered by a debit card issued by my former employer. Now I don't have the same plan and the debit card. When I asked why they sent me the bill so late, they said it was stuck in their system. It sounded like they were short staffed or employee incompetence held up the bill from being sent to me in a timely manner. I told them I no longer have the same plan and debit card to cover the $120 bill, but they still insist I pay the full amount. I shouldn't have to pay for their mistakes. They also mentioned that I was the only account that was "stuck in their system". This is not right. I'll take my business to Clinical Lab instead. read more

Most have had a hard time finding my veins and Ester is pro at it!
