I had to get some blood work done at Diagnostic Labs and my doctor said to just go in as the paperwork would be on file. My old doctor retired and just a few years ago I had to take in forms so I was pleasantly surprised with this new service. I went to the Kahala DLS and only had to wait about 10 minutes. The tech was good - I hate to get shots or get blood drawn so appreciate a skilled person. Now that I know where it is (second floor of Kahala Professional Building across from the Longs parking lot) I will come here when needed. read more

NOVEMBER 2023 NEW LOCATION They moved from previous location by Great Harvest/Petland to the Kahala Office Tower between Longs and Post Office/L&L/McDonalds. PRO: Parking is much better, and you can grab something to eat right after you do your fasting blood draw. Grab a paper number when you walk in. (No more dirty recycled laminated numbers!) There's a lot of seats in waiting room, so you don't have to wait in the hot sun or you could wait in the elevator lobby if you don't like sitting next to so many old people. There are 8 blood draw rooms now! CONS: the old people have all found this place already and it's only been a week! They all still come between 6a (opening) and breakfast. Expect to wait a long time if you come in the morning. Best time to come is 12-2p but then it's probably not a fasting lab draw. Fasting is overrated. I arrived 7:10 and left at 7:38. Ive become part of the old people. GenX come after 7a. The baby boomers wait in line to get in at 6a. read more

Wait is unreasonably long. There are barely any employees working at an incredibly busy time.

I recently came back to Diagnostic Laboratory Services (DLS) for the required blood work needed for my upcoming annual physical. I've been scarred with DLS since being poked and having the needle jabbed deep inside me where I sure felt it and jumped. My last visit here wasn't memorable and to be frank, I was dreading coming back to this office. However, being that this DLS is closest to work, I arrived just a few minutes after their opening of 6am. But guess what? I was the 10th person!!! I don't know what's the deal with so many elderly people coming in super early to DLS. Is it wrong for me to assume that the elderly people are retired and have lots of time? You would think they would rather sleep in than wake up 5 o'clock for a blood test. You would have thought I would remember to pull a number when you first arrive at DLS. I mean, you must stand in line to enter the business. DLS only allows 4 people in their waiting room. The rest need to queue outside. It was still dark, and I was groggy, and I forgot again to pull a number upon arrival. Aiyah... I was fortunate where a girl, who arrived after me and noticed I forgot to pull my number, advised the staff of my situation, and allowed me to go first. Thank you to the girl and bless her heart. After sitting down, I was asked a series of questions to verify my identification. My heart raced as I started to have flashbacks of previous visits where I was jabbed multiple times without much success. I had Cherisse assist me and she was an angel. She also had a difficult time trying to locate veins on both arms. I started to worry but she then spoke with me about other things to distract my attention. She commented on my jade lifesaver pendant and mentioned she recently received one from her grandmother. She brought me at ease, and I felt more relaxed. Cherisse also gave me the option of having blood drawn from the back of my hand where the veins are more visible. I have never been given this option before but was open to it as I didn't want to get stabbed multiple times and see the worry on the technician's face. The first attempt drawing blood from the back of my hand was magical - it was executed quickly and efficiently. The next thing I knew Cherisse obtained the 2 vials needed and I was done. Overall, a much better experience at DLS where this is worthy of a 5-star rating from me. read more

Very challenging to find. First maps on Yelp took me to Clinical Labs Hawaii. The old location closed and there's no signage at this new location. I called and the person who answered could barely explain where they are located. Never did find it....ran out of time to get to an apt and didn't get blood work done as it closed at 4pm. read more

5/17/2025 My doctor ordered five stool tests and I picked the containers at the Japanese Cultural Center DLS. I collected three of the samples and dropped them off at the Kuakini DLS because I had a doctor's appointment there. The next day I collected the final two samples and dropped them off at the Japanese Cultural Center DLS on Saturday May 17. A tall girl (Junko?) told me that only one was ordered and she would throw away the second sample. She argued that because there was no order she could not process it and we would have to call the doctor. She said she would not call because she was too busy and we would have to call, all with a bad attitude. read more

I picked a paper number from the machine dispenser outside of the of Diagnostic Laboratory & waited patiently in the hot sun as I was reading the instructions posted all over the door entrance (before trying to enter the joint). Once I got in, I was rudely told to stick my head at the temperature machine to take my temperature, then I just stood there by the counter while the clerk just walked away without saying anything. I had my HMSA medical card & ID out, but ended up waiting at the counter like an idiot, not knowing what to do because the clerk just upped and walked away without saying anything. After waiting for over 10 minutes , and seeing a few other clerks talking on the side about something, I decided that this location was NOT FOR ME due to the lack of communication, & service. Walked straight out, jumped into my car, & drove to another DLS location to get my bloodwork done. I guess during a pandemic, workers somehow forgot how to provide any customer service? read more

Drawing blood or peeing in a cup aren't things I'd like to do often, but just gotta do it right? I've been to several Diagnostic Laboratory Services (DLS) around town with Hawaii Kai as my main one, but I was scheduled to go to the Kahala DLS. This location is very convenient, especially if you're heading out to town. It's located along Kalanianaole Hwy, after you take the off ramp before the start of the freeway. It's on the right hand side and you turn into the first driveway. It's a small strip mall that has Petland and Great Harvest Bread. There's plenty of parking. I arrived just before 10AM. There's a stand outside the door where you grab your number. I'm not sure why, but after everyone grabbed a number, they just wait in a line along the wall. It was super sunny. I'll wait in the shade, thanks. Nurses will come out to call out numbers as well as show which number they are on behind the window. It was pretty busy, and got even busier after I got my number. After checking in, you get to side inside in the cool, clean, spacious, cozy, and comfortable waiting room out of the hot, bright, and blazing sun. Many DLS location use the bright white fluorescent (probably LED now) lights. Here, the lights are just the normal, household style light fixtures with soft white bulbs. Just feels homey in here. The nurse who helped me was very clear, courteous, friendly, and professional. Definitely made me feel comfortable throughout the process. Overall, I can see why this DLS seems busier than others. Everything is so clean and so comfortable. The staff is nice and friendly, and warming. I'd probably come here whenever I need lab tests done. I just need to figure out when it's not so busy! read more

Had extremely rude encounter with staff at kahala DLS today. I left. Will only go to Hawaii Kai from now on. They are nice there and professional. Kahala staff ignored that there were several of us waiting..after a while I got up to inquire about service and was snapped at..told they were with patients and would be out when done. Completely untrue. We all saw from the wait area no less than FOUR employees in the back doing tasks, bagging trash etc...not one acknowledged that there were patients waiting etc...then to be snapped at and told they were with patients...I just left. Don't want that attitude coming at me with sharp needles. Be prepared for rudeness if you go to this lab. Hawaii Kai has always been extremely professional and I've never seen the lack of caring or attention as I did today at kahala. I am also a health professional and this is not ok to treat patients that way. read more

Honestly, my first experience wasn't so great here. I felt like a pin cushion. But today I met Rita. She changed my life!!! She was absolutely the best that I have ever experienced. What I mean by the best is.... I know this sounds crazy, but I couldn't even feel the needle going in my arm!!! And she did it on the first try!!! The first try!!!!! If you're afraid of getting blood work done, she is the person to see. Truly the best experience I ever had with someone taking blood from me. I go here for the location convince.. but minus 2 stars for the way they run their waiting room. You pull a number as you arrive and told to sit down. Staff comes out one by one calling a number. When your number is called you hand your ID and insurance. Now.. here's where it gets sticky. If you get a staff member that gets your info and tells you to sit back down. Your screwed. If you get a staff member who gets your info and directs you right into a room. Your good. Why? Well, if your directed to sit back down after handing your info, all the people behind you who got directed to a room, are being serviced before you. Even though they came after you. And when your staff member that has your info is ready to take you to a room, guess what? There's no rooms available cause all those people behind you already took them! So, now you have to wait for a room to open and watch all those people that arrived after you.. leave before you! Yeah that irritated me big time. read more

Went to get a blood draw and the phlebotomist at the desk skipped my number by accident and helped a elderly couple as they walked in, which is fine. However, when i went to let her know my number was skipped, she gave me attitude saying to sit back down and wait for my number to be called, but she didnt change the number counter so i still wouldve been skipped when the next phlebotomist came out. I just left and went to another dls but will change to clinical from now on read more

This is a kind of a hidden and not easy to get to location but very convenient to the kahala area. They were very good and efficient while being friendly and professional. I would not hesitant coming back here for my lab needs. read more

UPDATE AN HOUR LATER- after checking in and getting second guessed by one employee another employee (an hour later) comes by to question us on the same crap again that is already noted on the paperwork. And to top it off she is reading it and knows we answered everything and we're checked in. Just waiting to be able to pee in a cup and getting the third degree is annoying. Trying to keep this post PG. simply put- DONT COME HERE. people don't know how to read or communicate. Also. Crazy rich lady comes in and doesn't want to wear a mask then keeps taking it off. Why in the hell didn't they kick her out??? But they want to interrogate my daughter with the same crap more than once. ‍ SMH How do people function when there poor communication. I used google maps to find this location after the worst experience at the Kapahulu location. Finally get in here and they seem to be really quick. However the paperwork was filled out prior to coming here by the employer. I am asked for more information that I don't have because I brought what I was told. In the midst of the conversation a second lab tech comes up and clarified that what we had was all we needed. Why do people make things harder than need be. Maybe I would've had a little more patience if I didn't have a horrible experience at the Kapahulu location just before this. Parking is free and they have stalls available at this busy time of the day. So that's a plus. Thank goodness this is not a reoccurring need. read more

The tech Rita did a wonderful job, she was cheerful, professional and what's more did a great job finding my TINY VEIN on the FIRST TRY impressive! Second unexpected way to be treated here. The phlebotomist was a bit indifferent. Females usually are on the floor, perhaps for a good reasons. The male phlebotomist was doing ok until I felt him put forward pressure on the extraction needle. I was being poked and was feeling the sharpness cause pain. He asked if I was ok and I told him that that he was pushing the needle in. He did not adjust. He takes out the needle, tells me to put pressure then places a piece of tape over my swab. Then says to leave it on for fifteen min and walks away. No apology for causing discomfort. read more

Giving a shout out to all the ladies at DLS Kahala. Annual full blood work up due and decided to give my blood at this cute and convenient location. Plenty of parking and it is free. Worried about the lines from previous reviews on Yelp - but coming at Spring Break must be the key. Mid-morning visit reaped NO ONE THERE BUT ME! They have 4 blood letting rooms and I got the full attention from all three ladies! The three were desperately trying to find a vein. They laughed and said lots of dudes(and fit women) have this problem as the veins hide under our muscles. They suggested I drink water and maybe warm my elbow underside to get the veins to pop up. Maybe flex the fist? Bust out the butterfly needle - makes it easier to milk a vein. I opted for the blue butterfly...a rare species! I flexed my fist tight and finally the three ladies tapped a perfect vein. Told them this always happens and once I had to be jabbed five times before they found a good enough vein. They gasped "oh no, not us - no way five jabs!". I laughed. Love watching the whole process. As they pricked into my flesh I told them "yes!, you hit a good gusher" as I watched the blood rush into the tube to quickly fill the three vials. It is so cool being able to actually see your vein subtly pumping up and down as it flows the blood into the tube. Should have been a doctor! Mahalo ladies! You did a great job with only one jab before you hit red gold! read more

Health care can be complicated and sometimes frustrating. It can often mean lots of calls to providers and insurance. Let's just say it can be humbug. That's why I am so glad I picked this DLS in Kahala. My lab orders were not standard and it took several tries to get it straight. I couldn't have done this without the help of Mykel and her team. Everyone there treats people kindly and with respect. They don't rush anyone but they are moving people efficiently through the steps. I'm very grateful and highly recommend. read more

I come in mid day and never had a problem here. Good parking, grab a blue numbered card at entrance desk, give ID & insurance card, walk 10 steps to little "office" and give up your arm of preference for venipuncture. Thats it. Gotta go pick up a meal now! read more

Located on the same side as Petland, this location is quite convenient being very near to the on-ramp to the freeway. Parking at times can be a bit cramped or even non existent depending on the time of day you head there. The facility itself is very large and spacious. Due to the COVID restrictions, I would recommend you bring a umbrella if you don't like standing in the sun (early morning). Faculty is nice making the line transition into the patient room quite seamless. I'll be coming back here in the future. read more

Bad new location for seniors & disabled. Acess ability for handicapped is bad . Yes more parking, but parking turnover is not good. Wheelchair ramp is not readily available. The move was not thought of well. Since DLS is connected to Queens, why wasn't it planned to be in the Queens Urgent Care Center? The hospital is a maze ( no fault, since it was built back in the 1800) & why does the external ambulatory & ancillary services have to follow the same planing & vision. Poor planing & consideration! Unfortunately, it appears to be planned by healthy, young myopic individuals. Better expert planners, & more strategic planning needs to be incorporated. I am not disabled, but observed a few elders trying to get their way up there. I happen to follow an elder & worried that he was going to collapse, of which I chose not to use the elevator & follow behind him in case of an emergency. I hope DLS & QHS can collaborate better in the near future. read more

Idk what all the bad reviews are about. They made me nervous about the place, but it's 100 not as bad as ppl making it out to be. Firstly there is indeed a front lady who is quite strict on making sure you stay out until you're called, you take your temp, and have your mask. I don't think she's at all mean, and I appreciate how strict she is with the structure. No favoritism, just consistency. It's not a mystery either, there are a bunch of signs outside plastered all over reminding you of the procedure. I had Natalie I think her name was who was super chill and nice. But even the lady who was checking the front checked with me. I told her of my situation and she noted "so you've been helped already" some might have taken that is rude, I just took it as she had to be brief and clairfy the only reason she checked up on me. It seems like they want only one nurse per patient which makes sense or else the status and story of your visit has to be repeated and mixed up. I had to get the request faxed but they let me wait I. The room. Got it faxed paid and left without any issue at all. I feel like some ppl kind of just come in with a bad attitude and then wonder why ppl sigh. Even that strict lady at the front, I asked her for the fax number politely and she gave it to me quickly without any attitude. I could tell she was under pressure about other things though, so she didn't have the fake sweet aloha vibe thing going on, but I don't expect workers to kiss my butt either. They are just humans working, and like every other human when under pressure they are a little less cordial. It's pretty hectic and efficient in there and so if you're looking for some fake sweet aloha greeting like a shop trying to make a sale off you, this is def not the place for you. But even with that said, everyone was nice, even the ppl that were not my attending nurse. The nurse got it on the first true too and communicated with me. I'm pretty fine with needles, it's the anxiety if waiting that affects me way more. I suffer from general anxiety and I felt pretty relaxed in there. The energy of the workers was nice. read more

Just behind my favorite restuarant, Assagio and smoothie place, Lanakila Juice. The staff is friendly and very good. When I come here, I don't feel any pain when they draw blood. read more

Place was filled when i arrived around 7:30 am on a Thursday morning. Waited half hour. Becky was my technician. She followed all protocols listed on the wall, thanked me for waiting, sanitized her hands, introduced herself, asked my name and birth date, asked me to verify info on tubes, etc. I couldn't give it 5 stars because of the 1/2 hour waiit. This is usually a well run location; however, I guess Covid has changed many aspects of customer service. I was there standing in line when they opened at 6 am. Finally got in at 6:15 - not too long a wait. But once I got into the location, a lab tech named Shantel rudely told me to "go get a number - you can't be helped without a number. You were supposed to do that so now you can ask the others in line for their numbers but they probably won't give you their number so you need to go to the end of the line." She could have been nicer about her "instructions" but I guess niceness is not in her nature. If she's this rude so early in the day, I pity those who come in later when she's busy or tired. read more

The 5 stars is for Desiree at the Pearlridge location (above Big City Diner). I came very early ... by 7am ... having not slept much the night before in anticipation of this blood-draw procedure. I have "very deep veins," or so I've been told, and have had the worst experiences no matter who has tried. I've even had to go by way of the veins on my hand, and that has been tricky as well. I usually end up with bruises on both inner arms and my hands after all the prodding and searching for a viable vein. Imagine the pain and discomfort of all that. Now, fast forward to my time yesterday at DLS with Desiree. She was great from the time she came to the waiting area, called my number, and escorted me to her work station. I told her of my nervousness because of the hard time I have doing this procedure, and she listened carefully. She started with one arm, seemed to find a possible vein, but then switched arms before doing anything, saying she wanted to "check all of her options." The other arm, within seconds, ended up being doable and before you know it, she was done. Other than the minor discomfort of the tight band and the quick needle sting, it literally was a piece of cake. She's my new best friend, seriously. A day later and no bruising or nightmares! If you have uneasiness and issues about doing a blood test, go to the Pearlridge DLS AND ASK FOR DESIREE!! I do agree with other posts regarding the poor handling of patients as they arrive to the clinic, though. I, too, had a kinda rude reception when I first went in. There were maybe 3 people already seated, so it wasn't busy in the least. This being my first time at DLS, I did not know the procedure and just assumed that I needed to check in. I stood at the counter, and a tech came over and asked what I needed. I started to tell her that I have no paperwork, that the doctor sent it electronically, and mid sentence, she abruptly told me to just go have a seat. Did not give me a moment to tell her it was my first time there. So I just sat there, and another gal came out to call a number. I had no idea that I was supposed to pull a number. I asked her about the number system, and again, same kind of rude response. Could barely point out the number machine -- as if it was too much for her to answer -- then told me to go back and sit down/somebody would be with me in a minute. Just plain unfriendly and cold, so not a good feeling in my gut at that point. Then, along came Desiree, and she was just amazing. She made up for the others, although she should not have had to. Luckily, I tend to think that it's not how you start off, but how you finish when conducting some type of business transaction. However, I do strongly urge DLS management to look into this and other reviews regarding poor customer service, especially pertaining to the waiting room. Most people are good and patient and kind, and they deserve better treatment than what is being offered in some cases. It's truly unacceptable to be treated rudely and abruptly. Those who come there, like me, are tense and fearful. A smile and a nice welcome could help them tremendously to feel a bit more at ease. Having Desiree become a trainer/teacher for the others could be a starting point. I will return to DLS in the future and hope/pray that Desiree is still there. read more

Took my 1 yr old here and was very impressed with how organized they are and how well they are set up for Keiki. I was able to grab a number and wait in my car and they came out showing a sign that showed which number they were on so you do not have to wait in line. All the staff was caring and professional. Darci (sp) was my son's phlebotomist she did such a great job!!! he hardly cried & she was accommodating to let me breastfeed him after in the room. I've come here a couple of times for lab work and experienced great customer service both times. The techs were nice and able to find my veins quickly and no bruises at the puncture sight. This location opens at 6 am and I've heard the wait is long at that hour since many people have been fasting over night and want to get the blood work out of the way early. So today I decided to go at 730 am and there was no wait at all. The nice thing about this location besides ample customer parking is that Great Harvest Bakery is right next door, so after your lab work you can head right next door and treat yourself to a scone or muffin. read more

It was the first time coming here since 2007, where I needed a blood draw + other tests done recently. Sometimes, I will hang out with friends, who were doing their own blood draws here too. I do like the location a lot, since it's basically near where I live, and I could go there right when it opens at 6am and get it done and still have plenty of time to get to work on time. I love the fact that there was hardly a wait. I basically was the 3rd in line and there was about 3 others in front of me, but one of them headed straight for the restroom, so I pulled a number before they serviced the initial walk ins. I didn't have a copy of my insurance card, but they said that's ok. Just got to give them the necessary paperwork and forms and your driver's license, and you are good to go. I was basically in and out of there within 15 minutes.The entire process was rather quick and very professional. I'm sure it was the fact that I was one of the first people in line that morning, so it was indeed fast. Quick tip is to get there early. Depending on what kind of test you have, you probably would need to fast the night before. I was so hungry when they drew my blood, that I just felt everything gurgling inside me. It was crazy! Best thing I did after leaving the location was to look for a good breakfast spot (or new one) and just go to town on it. It was magical, I swear! Parking is pretty much plentiful here, where they share the same parking space as Petland and Great Harvest Bread Company. Located in a strip mall across the street from Kahala Mall Shopping Center, this DLS facility is next door to Assagio Square and my favorite Lanikai Juice. Too bad they were not open when I was done. I could have gotten a smoothie. If you don't drive, route #1 and #22 stops by here very frequently, so you can do your thing here, if it is most convenient for you. The interior of this place is very much like a doctor's office. Very meticulously clean, white, and just spotless. The staff here is very good in what they do and very friendly too. I would definitely come here again, if I needed another blood draw. Support local! A+ read more
