I love this place SO much. IMO the perfect laid back spot for any function, live band, even a wedding would be bomb here. Super comfy, retro games, very friendly staff, great sound system, clean bathrooms- actually the whole place is really clean. The regulars are totally welcoming and friendly. If you're asking yourself is Kristie really reviewing another place in Arlington, the answer is yes. Yes I am. My cousin had her birthday party at Diamond Jim's this past Friday because there was a Led Zeppelin cover band playing. So once again I found myself rolling down I-30 to the 817. This bar was complete fun. It's your average dive bar with a mix of interesting characters. It would definitely be a place I would check out again...if it were in DALLAS. I'd give this place 5 stars for the building itself. It's huge (TWSS). They have a stage, dance floor, pool tables in a back room, an upstairs area and I think a make shift patio out front. Plus the drinks were pretty cheap. There was a 5 minute window where we all got to order any shot for $2. That was super awesome. The reason I'm sticking with 4 stars is mostly for the cigarette smoke. Effin A people. I forgot how much I like the smoking ban in Dallas. Also, ordering drinks was kind of confusing because we didn't have a set waitress. It was kind of flag down whomever, or just order when someone showed up. Otherwise this was a good time! This place gets 5 stars (right off the bat) for the mere fact that you can SMOKE inside. If you DON'T LIKE SMOKING and can't stand the fact that people are smoking - then DON'T GO HERE. If you like cheap drinks, fun karaoke, fun bar staff and dive bars then you will like Diamond Jim's. My only 2 critisms are: 1. The parking lot is a little scary - needs bright lights and a LOT of them. 2. The huge pool room in the back doesn't always attract the best crowd (if you catch my drift.) read more

The Bears went here specifically to see a friend's band perform that night. The parking area is, well, "interesting" - kinda like a war zone or a third-world country, with almost no illumination. I was glad I was driving a pickup truck! When you come in the front door, you feel instantly transported to the days of the Wild West or the Gold Rush - it's a very large, 2-deck saloon with a large elevated stage that features good local talent. The bartender ladies were very attentive (and attractive), and the drinks were very low in cost and generous in portion. Big plus. Bands that play here on live music nights play really L O U D. Bring some earplugs if you don't want your eardrums shattered. Only really bad thing is, after about15 minutes I felt like I needed a SCBA respirator because of the thick clouds of smoke everywhere. In fact, we had to leave early because my asthma was acting up and I was beginning to have trouble breathing. But then again, Arlington has yet to ban smoking, which is great for smokers but not Bears. I would really enjoy this place if that situation were to change. read more

I've been coming here for about 3 years now, and it's definitely become my favorite dive bar. Both the staff and patrons are friendly, drinks are inexpensive, and the pool tables are well-maintained. Karaoke several nights a week, and live bands most of the other nights. I now play in two different pool leagues on teams sponsored out of DJ's. And I drive an 80-mile round trip for the privelege. It's that much fun. If you're on a bike, parking is very good, with a dedicated fenced area right out front. Would have been five stars, but (1) it's very smoky at times, and (2) some of the worst bands I've ever heard (particularly metal bands) were here. My husband and I stumbled upon this place yesterday when we were out riding and decided to give it a try since we saw a few bikes parked out front. The first thing I noticed was how much is looked like a "real" saloon. Like from back in the day. Pretty awesome if you ask me! We went to the bar and was immediately greeted and served. $3 for two beers?! Heck yes!! There was some karaoke going on...interesting lol. They have a small dance floor and they were setting up for a band to take the stage. Towards the back they have a decent sized pool room but I didn't see anyone back there. The upstairs was closed off, but I'm assuming they open it up later at night. We seemed to be the youngest ones in the bar. This may be a place for the older biker crew to hang out at. One thing to keep in mind...they allow smoking inside so it was VERY smokey, so if you don't like that kind of thing I would not suggest visiting this place. We don't really mind it, but I probably couldn't hang out here for more than a few hours. All in all I think it's a great place and we will definitely be back! Cheap beer wins every time! read more

Diamond Jim's is definitely a place to have a variety of fun! They have EVERYTHING! Pool, video games, dancefloor, live music local cover bands usually play Saturday nights and live "Rogueoke" which is karaoke with a live band. They have an great free poker league in there on Tuesday nights, Platinum Poker which has people watching entertainment for hours. The bartenders are super cool and make you feel right at home!!! And their front fenced off yard/patio has been known to have some damn good BBQ & Chili Cookoffs! Go check out this old wild west saloon-style place and if you don't have a GREAT time, then that's your own fault. read more

I frequent Jimond Jim's on Thursday nights when there is a Band that plays for you to sing Karaoke with!! The Band members are great musicians and a ton of fun!!! The guy in charge is Carl and he's a blast!!! The drinks are good, and Carl announces special shot deals thruout the night. There are always some really great singers who will surprise you with amazing voices. Lots of pool tables for shooters and a dance floor to "cut the rug" with your favorite partner. I always come with a girlfriend and have met some interesting single men there. Always a variety of personalities and "types" to hang out with!!! Come join me and say hello at my table! I'm a young girl, 21, so I was hesitant about this spot but overall myself and my friend had fun. We went on a Saturday around 1030 and there was a $4 cover. Not bad but I've been to bars where there isn't a cover at all... however, that night there was a live band so I guess that might have been the reason. The Saloon looks just like a saloon on the inside. Its pretty spacious! There are stooled seating areas and also booth seating which was pretty neat for hanging out with a small group of friends. The bartender, I believe her name was Anna, was SO friendly! (As was the door woman). Now let me just say that I'm biracial... half black half white and my friend is black so I always feel skeptical when going out to Texas bars just because I like being around a mix of people; but the service was AWESOME. By the end of the night my friend and I got ahold of the manager to relay this to him. Anywho, it was a little dead at first and still not to its capacity through out the night, but we still had a good time. The wells were $4.50 which is great! The drinks were good, and if they weren't, Anna re-made them. After a couple of drinks and sitting to talk we played some pool which was 75 cents. Even the people there (for the most part) were rather friendly. People would come up to us and give us advice on our game. We socialized with all types of people, had drinks bought for us, even had one man buy the whole group shots of whiskey! Went here back in August for a friend's 21st. It the neatest bar... looks just like a saloon on the inside! Two stories tall, dance floor, stage, live bands, good karaoke DJs, pool tables... we had a REALLY great time. I'm stickin with 4 stars on account of the smoke... I agree with someone else that commented.. .I am BEYOND ready for a smoking ban. 1, I don't want to die a slow and painful death because someone can't put mind over matter. 2, it makes my clothes smell shnasty. In Arlington TX from North Carolina and happened to come across Diamond Jim's. My wife and I were there on a Wednesday night, so there was no band, but it was league night for pool and the tables were all very busy. We sat at the bar and talked with Nicky (the bartender) and Jim. Both were very friendly, and our conversation was like we were old friends. At one point Jim snuck over to the microphone and announced "we don't usually have celebrities in the house, but we do tonight" and he introduced my wife and I with a funny introduction -- VERY funny!! I have only visited this establishment a handful of times over the years to see a few local bands play. It has always been an enjoyable experience when I have been. The pool tables and queues seem to be well kept and with the most recent visit it seems that there have been some updates done to the entire building and decor. The sound system, that had always hit with clarity, projected even clearer this last weekend than I recalled. The always friendly, smiling staff available at the bar or your table are ready to serve up inexpensive and tasty beverages, eventually, and if you're thinking you may want/have to make a hasty exit for any reason definitely ensure you do not run a tab. Keeping pace with the "dive bar" atmosphere, it is a little smoky, with full ashtrays that you will mostly be emptying yourself, if that kind of thing bothers you. Coasters are everywhere yet, tables seem to still find themselves sticky and wet, so do find a waitress with a towel when you get settled down at one. Beyond that walking into the place, knowing only the few people that are willing to follow the band I went to see to a "small" bar no one has really heard of like this, and being a "bit" different from what appears to be the "normal" crowd for the establishment, I felt absolutely welcomed and comfortable this, and every time, I've been by the staff and regular patrons alike. CHEAP Booze and Beer compared to other bars, and even though this place is under "dive bars" its actually a very cool place to hang, It is a smoking establishment so be prepared to come out stinking like smoke, ventilation is not that great. Bartender and service is kinda slow but their attitude and friendliness makes up for it. This is due to them only having one bartender and 1 server sometimes. When you walk in, it is like you quickly travel back in time to an old western saloon. It would be great except that you are travelling so far back to the time of segregation when blacks were asked to leave places of business. They don't directly come up and say no blacks allowed. They come over and ask for an ID or they follow them around as if they are just watching and waiting for them to do something. I have seen it happen to people that I didn't know and wasn't with in the past. I experienced it first hand on my last visit. It was definitely not because we were drunk & disorderly, because he hadn't finished the one beer that he ordered (that they served him without asking for an ID) and I had seven up and then water to drink. We were actually getting up to leave (that must be when the bouncer noticed him) when they approached him to ask for an ID. As long as your white it is a great place to go, they have Rogueoke on Thurs and really good cover bands on sometimes on Saturday. So if it weren't for the No Blacks Allowed vibe, it would be a great place.....for everyone. read more
