Went for happy hour on a Wednesday! I sat at the bar and was greeted by a lovely bartender named Chris. Ordered the painkiller and honestly, this was one of the best cocktails I've had in a LONG time. I frequent tiki bars wherever I travel (love rum!) and was not expecting Arlington to have a place like this -- I was PLEASANTLY surprised. What a gem in Arlington! We were looking for a fun spot to hang at before our trip to Mexico, and 4 Kahunas was definitely JUST the right place!! I really am so glad that Arlington has some great spots like this now, as I always felt it was a part of DFW that had way more potential. 4 Kahunas has a wonderful ambiance that I honestly prefer over many of the very hyped up tiki bars back in Los Angeles. The service inside is chill, relaxed, and personable. You don't feel rushed, but they also get out your drinks without delay. I was also impressed by just how STRONG yet also fruity and flavorful many of the drinks were!! Just two drinks each had both of us VERY pleased and chatty for the whole night, while at a lot of other places, it would've taken at least twice as many to feel as....vibey! ;) For some spectacle, I definitely recommend either The Tiki Torch or Jet Pilot, both of which they light on fire!! I've hit up a bunch of the big-name "best in the country" tiki bars over the years. Places on both coasts and a few under-the-radar ones. Honestly, 4 Kahunas Tiki Lounge right here in Arlington is right up there with the very best of them. The place just feels like an instant getaway. It's tucked back off the main drag but the second you walk in you're on some tropical island, no plane ticket required. The cocktails are legit. Super well-made, great balance, real tiki depth, none of that fake sweet garbage you sometimes get. Every drink we've had has been spot-on. Maggie working the bar is the real MVP though. She's quick, knows her stuff inside out, super friendly, and somehow makes the whole night feel personal. Whatever we ordered, she crushed it and kept the good vibes going. She's a huge reason we keep coming back. Only thing that would make it even better? A water feature. A little fountain, a trickling stream down some rocks, or even a small waterfall wall in the back would dial the ambiance up to 11 and really sell that full island escape feel. I was in town visiting from Florida and my friend (who is a local) stopped in. 4 Kahunas is located in a cute little area of town with a bunch of other restaurants and drinking establishments, very walkable. It's decorated like your typical tiki spot with an added dive bar twist. Their menu is listed online, I never saw a paper menu but that was fine! I was shocked by the prices, in FL a typical tiki bar will easily run you $18-22 so I was very happy to see more reasonable prices at 4 Kahunas. Both bartenders were super friendly, helping us make decisions about cocktails. I got a cocktail (I can't remember the name) and it had the most elaborate garnish I've ever seen on a drink (aside from a bloody mary) It was a pirate ship! I loved it! We also saw another drink that had a dolphin made out of a banana as a garnish. Anyway, my first drink was delicious and very strong, like hella strong! My friend said her drink was strong too! The vibe inside was very relaxed so we enjoyed just hanging out and catching up somewhere where we could actually hear each other. My second drink was a seasonal drink with ube, it was good but not as good as my first. Overall, we got 5 drinks and our total was like $65 after tip which is amazing in my opinion. It can not be stressed enough that patience is the key here. This is not a vodka soda. There are many ingredients involved, and many drinks have cool and decorative designs (see photos). A lovely cute, little quant spot! Probably only fits like 50 people, intimate, and great drinks! Great spot to stop at for post meal drinks or just a break from shopping. The customer service was great, the drinks were great, and I love dim lighting! The only reason it is not a 5 star is because I feel like some good music would've been the cherry on top for me. Let me take you back to 2018. I was but a new graduate, celebrating my graduation in Myrtle Beach, SC. I sidled up to the bar. It was an island themed bar, but no tiki bar. I showed the bartender my ID. "Whoa!!!! You are in Arlington? Tell me you've been to 4 Kahunas? It's like one of 5 bars in the US outside Hawaii that is like a 'real' tiki bar." At that time, I had. In fact, I very coincidentally went during the first week they were open. At that time, the bartenders were new, but the drinks were strong. Now, let me take you back to 2019. I was getting off of work on a Thursday and wanted a treat. I stopped into 4 Kahunas. I grabbed my usual (the painkiller) and a man came in with a Jason and Freddy tiki cup. The bartender talked with them at length about the cups, and you could tell the bartender knew his stuff. Since then I have learned there is a whole collector culture. Let me not forget - many nights, the owner will come out and play the big drum with traditional songs. Very cool. This has become the "go to" stop when bringing folks from out of town. With a group of 4 you can order a bowl (SUPER strong) and it comes with a show. As a single patron, I suggest the painkiller. This is just such a unique spot, a true gem.
