There's not much out here in the winter besides the pizza and sub places.. man what a wonderful surpise to find sushi and an awsome steak right here on the island. The staff were awesome!!! I went here after a beach trip to Buxton after convincing some of my family to go. I had been here before and had mediocre quesadillas but good lobster bisque. This time was not even passable. Similar to other reviewers our server literally went in hiding. She did not even get our drinks for us, some other chick did. When the waitress finally showed up (in a sullen manner) and took our order she ran away again... And had zero interaction with us until she brought out our food... 1 hour later. We watched other irritated customers with the same server get their food before we even got our soup, which had a thirty minute wait because they had to "heat it up." Soup in a restaurant should already be hot before it is served. Again we had to ask for refills when another woman took our plates that were languishing on our table for twenty minutes. I had a fish sandwich, which was decent... However two of the people in our group of four got chicken fingers. After an agonizing wait the food finally came. The chicken fingers were shriveled and tasted funny and the fries were tasteless. The other party had a decent burger that was overpriced. We wanted BBQ sauce for the chicken fingers, but never got the chance to ask because the waitress avoided us. However upon serving a table near us, she clearly asked if they would like BBQ sauce with their chicken fingers... Absurd, simply absurd. Needless to say this terrible lunch ruined the trip and what was supposed to be a quick 45 minute lunch bloated into an hour and a half torture. I had previously raved about the food in order to convince people to come and imagine the embarrassment this caused me when it was simply a disaster... Do not go! save your money and go to La Fogata or some other place in Avon! read more

Some of the staff was very bitchy. A waitress refused to set us in her section because we were a group of 8. Once we did get a waitress that did not have an attitude problem the service was great. I had their bacon cheeseburger and it was GREAT. I'll go back for the burger. read more

We came back to try the sushi bar. Mind you we stopped coming here a few years ago, it was kind of dated and the food not Better than average. BUT the seaweed salad and sushi rolls were fresh, well done and hand made by some nice guys. Very much liked it if you need to get your sushi on in Buxton, highly recommend. read more

We stood waiting to be seated at least 10 minutes while unknown to us the Hostess was right behind us chatting with the Cashier and did not notice us. We probably waited 20 minutes at least for our food. Fish Tacos, and I ordered the salad bar with additional popcorn shrimp. When the Tacos and Shrimp finally came, my 'popcorn' Shrimp consisted of 5 skewered Shrimp on a stick. No, I wasn't going to send them back and wait for food again. We went back Saturday night following my initial review. The food and service were excellent with no hang ups or issues. I tried the crab bisque this time, and it was amazing. The salad bar was very fresh and had a nice variety of things to choose from. The steak was delicious and cooked perfectly (medium), and I enjoyed the shrimp skewer that came with it. I would also like to mention that we went to the adjacent seafood market the night before (Friday) and were very pleased with the steamed shrimp, crab legs and sides that we picked up. I would definitely recommend both the seafood market and restaurant to anyone visiting the island. read more

My husband and I LOVE sushi so when we saw their Sushi Bar sign we decided to try it out & we are glad we did! Their sushi roll prices are very reasonable & the sushi is delicious. We were having a difficult time deciding which rolls to order and the waitress was a huge help! She brought out a list of their "special" sushi rolls and suggested the watermelon roll which was amazing. They also have an awesome salad bar (very fresh) with homemade dressings. Overall - delicious sushi and very friendly, helpful staff. We would go back in a heartbeat to try their other menu options as well. read more

Went for the first time the other night and the food was great. Service was a little slow but the place was packed so that was understandable. We've eaten out a lot in all are years in the obx, in my experience most places are overrated, overpriced and service is usually horrible. This restaurant has a nice vintage sailors dinner the menu is massive. But most importantly the atmosphere is key in this restaurant and the wait staff are so friendly. We were looking for a good restaurant without a long wait while vacationing in the area with my family of 10. This place was the best of all places we made it into that week. Our server was quick, kind, and knowledgable. The food creative flavors and quality are way better than the decor of the restaurant may lead you to believe. I had the crab and shrimp combo. Awesome place to get fresh seafood while on Hatteras Island. Went with my family and we all tried something new. My uncle and I both had the fried tilefish with the captains catch entree. It was incredible. I'm a huge seafood fan and that was my first time having tilefish and I couldn't have been more satisfied. I really wanted to try the cobia but that was sold out. Overall everyone was satisfied. The service was pretty good. Our waitress was very nice and kept our drinks topped off. It was relatively busy and we had a large party but it still took about 1.5 hours to get our food on a Thursday night. All in all I was impressed and will most definitely return the next time I'm in Hatteras. read more

My husband and I were here on a Sunday night for dinner. I will start by saying the hush puppies were great, but it was all downhill from there. I chose the teriyaki salmon special for dinner, and my husband had the crab cakes. My salmon dish was intensely salty, and the crab cakes weren't anything to write home about. I really wanted to like this place!! If you go, try their catch of the day specials instead; you might have better luck. I wish that's what we would have done. read more

Been going here annually for 15 years. I was really DISAPPOINTED the last couple times. We waited for our food for an hour without the wattress even being visible. When we exited I tried to talk with the manager after we had already paid, just to let her know. She seemed really uninterested in our personal experience. She had kind of a look of "well what do you want me to do, it wasn't my fault" combined with "I don't want to deal customers". I really liked this restaurant because the owner is a cool guy who sells good food. But it seems like he's been relying more on sub-managers who are either incompetent or just have "island attitude". I'm on my way down for another week this summer, but I intend to drop cash at other restaurants. : / read more

We had breakfast here. Best coffee ever! Our waitress Donna runs her butt off! Our coffee mugs were never empty. Fisherman's favorite was delivered hot and the eggs cooked perfectly. The grits are great too! Been coming here since 1999 and Diamond Shoals is our favorite breakfast place. read more
