We called ahead with a group of 5. The hostess told us we could be seated in 30 minutes, we made our way down to the restaurant and got there 30 minutes after our call. We got there and checked in and proceeded to wait 30 minutes while walk in tables were seating before us. I saw a 5 top, a 6 top, and a 13 top being sat before us. We asked the host and she couldn't give us a straight answer as to why we couldn't be seated. As we were talking to her, another 10+ top walked through to get seated and both hostesses completely disregarded our questions. I have never been to a restaurant with a more confused and discombobulated host team in my life. We decided to come back after avoiding this place due to our last experience eight years ago. I'm glad we did. We both got seared tuna steaks, and they were very good. so were the sides, as well as the clam chowder and hush puppies. I thought the clam chowder was a little unorthodox, as it was creamy and not clear broth like we are used to for Hatteras clam chowder. Still, it was good. Service started out a little slow as the waitress seemed a little overwhelmed, but ended up being just fine. Friendly staff, that it appeared to enjoy working there. However, they have good sushi roll chef. Very unique rolls in the menu. We start with crab bisque with tomato base. The soup has enough crab meat. It is good opening appetizer. The hush puppies before the meal is come with it. It was fried to crunchy and crispy. Our roll includes the special of the day. The three fish combo roll. This is good to try. However, their Diamond Shoals and Funky Shrimp are the rolls to have. The Diamond Shoals is really make their name worthy for the roll. It is real lump crab meat roll top with spicy tuna. Delicious!!! The Funky Shrimp is tempura shrimp with mango salsa top with spicy real crab meat. Very good. Love it. Service is good. Food delivery to table is fast. The biscuit ear warm and flaky, and the grits were creamy and comforting. Fantastic breakfast to fuel up for a day of shelling. My husband had the Sonora omelette, packed with veggies and topped with salsa and sour cream, with homemade rye toast and what looked like house made cinnamon apples. Year after year this place doesn't disappoint. Diamond Shoals is the best seafood restaurant in Buxton and arguably the whole Outer Banks. Fresh fish, fast service, knowledgeable staff (listen to their recommendations, they know), and down right good food is what you will find here. Sushi is served Tuesday-Saturday right now- subject to change- and is the freshest I have ever ate. Our family our 5 has no complaints, really saying something coming from our group. Horrible COVID practices. No staff wore their masks properly if they wore them at all. Tables are absolutely not 6ft apart (and most definitely not 50% capacity) from each other. I've been coming to Diamond Shoals for over 20 years. The thing that I like about time initials is that it is not pretentious in anyway. It's more of a local place, but they're kind enough to allow tourists to come in and have a really nice meal. Of course our whole family loves going to Diamond Shoals for their hush puppies. They are amazing. We always try and sneak a few into a box to bring Hoke because they are so good! I really also like the way that you were given encouragement to choose how you would like your fish prepared. Blackened, broiled, fried, grilled... it's literally all good. On this visit, I had the broiled grouper with crabcakes stuffing. I also ordered french fries and coleslaw to go along with it. The grouper and the crab cake were delicious as you would hope and expect for a restaurant located on the Atlantic coast. All of the condiments you could possibly want or need are on your table. This place is a Fishhouse, and it shows in the way they cook and deliver the food. I highly recommend diamond Shoals for a special occasion, or just simple family dinner. The restaurant was crowded, on a Friday night, which was to be expected. Restaurant could have used a bigger wait staff. I placed my order and asked for a few more minutes to look at the wine list. Didn't see my server again until she came back with my dinner. Similar wait to get the check, and to get the credit card slip back for signing. Place was very noisy.
