I've been coming to Diamond Shoals for over 20 years. The thing that I like about time initials is that it is not pretentious in anyway. It's more of a local place, but they're kind enough to allow tourists to come in and have a really nice meal. It's locally owned, has a great family history, and that is on display and all of the photographs mounted to the walls of diamond Shoals. I have never had a bad meal there. Of course our whole family loves going to Diamond Shoals for their hush puppies. They are amazing. We always try and sneak a few into a box to bring Hoke because they are so good! I really also like the way that you were given encouragement to choose how you would like your fish prepared. Blackened, broiled, fried, grilled... it's literally all good. On this visit, I had the broiled grouper with crabcakes stuffing. I also ordered french fries and coleslaw to go along with it. The grouper and the crab cake were delicious as you would hope and expect for a restaurant located on the Atlantic coast. All of the condiments you could possibly want or need are on your table. This place is a Fishhouse, and it shows in the way they cook and deliver the food. I highly recommend diamond Shoals for a special occasion, or just simple family dinner. Had dinner there tonight. Fresh catch salmon, blackened, which was fabulous, served with sides of mashed potatoes and broccoli. Service was very slow, despite the servers working at top speed. The restaurant was crowded, on a Friday night, which was to be expected. Restaurant could have used a bigger wait staff. I placed my order and asked for a few more minutes to look at the wine list. Didn't see my server again until she came back with my dinner. Similar wait to get the check, and to get the credit card slip back for signing. Place was very noisy. Went for sushi night and tried out a few rolls. They give enough fish and it's not skimpy at all- it was pretty filling. We also tried the calamari and fish bites. The bites could've been fried a little longer, but the sauce it came with was super yum. Wow! We had such a wonderful meal! I had the Broiled Grouper and my husband had the Broiled Flounder. Big, flavorful portions. The green beans were great as was the sweet potato. The salad bar was fresh and well maintained. Hush puppies too! Our server was polite and helpful. We will definitely be back. read more

First of the food was excellent. My major complaint is that when I asked the waitress if I could get gravy with my biscuit (that came with the meal) she said sure... Best we've found on OBX. Their chowder was superb, the soft shell crabs at their peak, the grouper done perfectly. They warn you up front to be patient due to labor shortages, but we were seated promptly, the food arrived in good time, and the waitress was attentive. Recommended. read more

Super nice staff.....however the service was sooooo slow, the food was sub par, I had sushi, my friend had the ribs. I also ordered a dirty martini, which was served in a bourbon glass and had ice in it....you don't serve a martini over ice! It took over an hour to get our food. Feel free to come eat here if you're not concerned about COVID, because the employees here definitely aren't concerned. I checked reviews before coming and saw an owner respond to a review saying they'd make sure staff started wearing masks. Needless to say I was disappointed that this wasn't the case. We had such a hankering for fresh fish when we visited the island, we couldn't forgo a visit to the Diamond. So good, we had a big meal there a few times. That's a big deal, because I'm a tightwad.. You cannot get rockfish, or tilefish this good for the price anywhere in Baltimore. The quality and freshness is unsurpassed. The sides are fresh too. Be both had baked potatoes and seasoned green beans for our sides-both delightfully seasoned, and hot. You wouldn't think that a hot meal is a big thing. But how many times have you gotten a plate that's tepid? Slightly disappointing was the shrimp I got. I ordered the broiled shrimp plate, and they were a tad overcooked, but well seasoned, and delicious. No big worries, because they satisfied nonetheless. Maybe sat a minute too long under the heat lamp or something. A complimentary basket of hushpuppies along with bubbly, helpful wait staff completed the experiences both times! Traveled down from New England for a vacation. I wanted to try the clam chowder and it was some of the best chowder I've had!

Amazing food, the greatest restaurant in a Buxton. Lynn was our server. She did an amazing job! She should get a raise. We went back the next day and we had a different server, and it wasn't the same. I wish we had Lynn as server again! Very attentive, personable and patient she took care of my family of 6 graciously, 4 out of 6 are kids between 2 and 11 years old... The food was on point...The Admiral Plate was great. I loved the crab stuffed mushrooms and the clam chowder was heavenly! Will definitely return and recommend to all friends and family! read more

I was so excited to try this place out as I sat across the street eating my ice cream at Uncle Eddy's. I decided to call in an order. After waiting a long time for someone to answer, I placed an order two two bowls of chowder, Captain's Plate, and a California roll. She asked if I wanted the captains plate fried or broiled. I said broiled since I'm on a health kick. The lady said the chef is great with pastas since he used to work at a pasta place. I added a shrimp pasta as well. She said she'd call when the order was ready. It was over an hour and still no call. Hubs decided to head over and see if it was ready or at least be close by so he could just grab it and bring it back. Another 25'minutes goes by and he's back. My captains plate was fried! But not crispy fried but soggy fried, where the breading falls. There were no ventilation holes in the box so of course the moisture is going to get trapped and ruin the dish! So disappointing! The crab cake tasted great, all crab. The flounder also tasted great but sat at the very bottom and was really soggy. Nothing was crispy or remotely resembling it. The cheesy bread was the worst... talked about soaked bread , yuck! The clam chowder was ok, too thick for my taste. California roll was a California roll, nothing special. The shrimp pasta was better. A little overcooked. I would've liked it more al dente. I'm going to assume they were super busy and didn't have time to look at details but it was a waste of 80$ for sure. I'm sure it would be a different experience had I eaten there but at a time like this, I'm not taking any chances. Many feel the same, so they should up their take out game. read more

No Masks. Out of the 2 servers and 3 people behind the sushi bar preparing food, not one of them was making even a little show of wearing a mask. Servers wore them like chinstraps. Preparers/sushi chefs did not even have them. There have been several complains here and on Tripadvisor, with the manager Keith G apologizing and saying he would do something about it. But obviously Keith G. has no control over the situation. In addition, there was a glade plug-in air freshener, making the air sickeningly sweet, and making it difficult to taste my food. For the first half hour I thought my server was covered in perfume, but no, it was an air freshener plugged in underneath my table. Disgusting, all around. read more

The service was nice as well as the ambiance it wasn't too loud but there was enough hustle so it did not feel dead.

We went to the Diamond Shoals on Wednesday evening. One of the few places on Hatteras offering indoor sit-down service. Had to wait about 30 minutes outside for a spot. Restaurant practiced social distancing and servers wore masks. Our server this evening was Brooke. Had to try the clam chowder. Not disappointed. Is it the best in the world? Can't tell you. But I can say I relished it and would order again. Mother-in-law loved the hush puppies. She had 4 of them. We had the calamari for appetizer. Good. For main course folks got the big fish platter, fried shrimp, crab cakes, mahi mahi, fresh catch of the day. Not a one of the seven was disappointed with their choice. Highly recommend. We enjoyed our meal and the company. Sometimes it's just nice to go out and enjoy a good sit down meal. BTW, Diamond Shoals offers diners a free sand dollar if they submit a positive review.
