My entire month of July was spent here with my community, and I loved every single minute of it.The concerts start at 7:00 p.m., but I was always the first one there since I live the closest. I'd show up with my folding chairs, claim a big spot, spread out blankets, and save plenty of room for everyone. Then I'd wait for my friends to arrive. You know the evening is officially about to begin when they play Downey's official city song! I had no idea Downey even had a song, but it's absolutely adorable and always puts everyone in a great mood.Our final concert was extra special--we had a grand total of 22 people at our little gathering! Every week turned into a giant community potluck with everyone bringing something delicious to share. One weekend my friends even surprised me with a birthday party, complete with a decorated table and cake. It made me feel so loved, and it's a memory I'll treasure forever.There's something so peaceful about sitting on a blanket, listening to live music, chatting with friends, and watching the sun slowly set over the park. It's a reminder that some of the best nights don't have to be expensive--they just need good people and good music.The concession stand offered the basics--hamburgers, hot dogs, popcorn, pie, and drinks. I do wish there were a few more food options, but maybe that's something they can expand on next year. Before the concerts, there were booths from local businesses like Lazy Dog, the Downey Theatre, dental offices, and other community organizations offering fun giveaways, games, and raffle prizes. We never won the raffle tree, but we sure had fun trying every week!One of my favorite parts was running into so many familiar faces. It truly felt like the entire community came together to enjoy summer evenings at the park.The only downside? July is over way too fast! I wish the concert series lasted longer because one month just isn't enough.Thank you to everyone who makes these concerts happen each year. Until next summer...

Clean, well lit, feels safe. Beautiful greenery & flowers. Spacious, clean, well maintained & well stocked bathrooms. I've seen police training with their dogs here- K9 training and that's pretty interesting. Seeing the dogs go after the bad guys, even just in training, made me feel like the police are not to be messed with! In the same area is the Columbia Memorial Space Center http://www.columbiaspacescience.org/ - also great for kids to explore.

Lots of gnats flying around the area, but could be due to local weather. I don't visit the South Gate area often, so my visits to the City of Bell Gardens will be rare. The only reason I wanted to visit this park was because from an overhead perspective on Google Maps Satellite View, it looked like a nice, serene place to stretch your legs and relax for a little while. With a duck pond in the middle of the park and plenty of walkways around the park, I was starting to feel this could be Bell Garden's equivalent of Wilderness Park in Downey minus the parking fee for visitors who reside in a different city. Unfortunately, I do not plan to return to this park next time I'm in Bell Gardens. The park is located adjacent to the Bell Gardens Sports Center, and I almost thought the two were connected to one another, but it would be a really long walk from one end to the other. There appeared to be a gate in the back corner of the park that led to the back corner of the sports complex, but the "No Trespassing" sign deterred me from walking in that direction. I parked on the east end of the park where there is a playground and a couple of basketball courts by the adult school. The playground and the basketball courts seemed to be in fine condition, but nobody was playing there when I went. Towards the west, you'll see a myriad of picnic tables scattered about, so it does feel pretty open in that area. However, the grass is definitely greener in other parks, and I should have taken that as a sign of things to come when I was walking towards the duck pond. As I'm walking about the duck pond, I was literally grossed out by a ton of filth both on the walkways as well as at the pond's edges. No joke, there were so much filth on the corners that it almost looked like you could walk across them, but of course, I would never put my foot in the water just to try. If I did, I'd almost certainly need a new shoe! In one of those corners, I saw three turtles that appeared they were trying to slowly but surely fight their way towards the surface of the pond so as to not drown. I almost thought they were dead, but I did witness some slight movement in them, a glimmer of hope that they could have been saved if animal control were in the area. But with how filthy and murky these waters were, I didn't want to put my hands in there, and I didn't know what to do to save them. As much as I wanted to, I had to leave them be :( The ducks swimming in the cleaner parts of the pond or standing on the fringe were in much better spirits, though the ones on land barely exhibited any movement whatsoever, perhaps symbolic of how inactive this park is even in good weather. There was construction nearby, which necessitated a great deal of fences around the park. Some of the fences blocked the walkway around the pond, so I had to walk in the grass/dirt between the pond and the fence while circumnavigating the pond. I don't know what that construction was about, but I hope something good will come of it. During my visit, it was a bothersome nuisance in my trying to immerse myself in relaxing scenery. The restrooms weren't in good condition either. The sink I used was barely working, and I didn't want to even bother with the hand dryer. Lastly, a lot of the parkgoers acted kind of weird that I can understand why the playground and basketball courts were empty on an otherwise beautiful day. I didn't really feel safe in the park, and I was starting to worry that one of those weirdos would heckle me. Luckily, nobody did. Overall, I regret stopping by this park. It does not appear to be maintained well, and I can't be certain this area is safe if I didn't see that many people there. If I do make a return visit to this area, I would rather stop by the adjacent sports complex next door even though I don't play sports, but I at least could watch some soccer players practicing on the fields there.

There is a grass field adjacent that you can also run on as well as some good bleachers to do steps. I'm sure that the ladies who gave this low marks were just looking for a excuse not to exercise and are not running currently because they found a bunch. There were a few bits of litter ... and guess what? I picked them up so I don't have to see them again! Respect the place your using for free or it will disappear. You could jog past a piece of litter for laps/miles and then go home write negative reviews on yelp for 15 minutes whining about it, or you could pick it up in 5 seconds and do your part, jeez. No poop when I was there, but I'd pick that up too. No potholes either but you could fill those yourself too, the track is wide. Also, anyone smoking whatever they want is none of your business, lung police. The more runners there, the better for the your lungs.

I went to Liberty Park for my cousin's son's first birthday party, a big event with catering and…read moredecorations and about a hundred Koreans. They took over a giant covered outdoor area with a ton of picnic tables, clean and open and perfect for a large party (I assume they had to rent this). I've been to a lot of parks over the years, and most of them don't have comparable event spaces. The one disadvantage was that we were far away from the playground, much to the chagrin of my three-year-old, who kept demanding to leave the party in favor of the play structure he saw in the distance. Liberty Park is just a huge place with several different zones. We even switched parking lots once we got there and figured out where the actual party was, on the Camp Liberty side of the park. The party was really nice, pleasant and relaxing. We had lunch, watched the dohl ceremonies (he grabbed the stethoscope, securing his future as a doctor), took pictures, and hung out with family. Then, because I'm not a monster, I took my boy to the playground. It was a great playground, well maintained and pretty quiet on a Saturday afternoon. Fewer kids, in fact, than teenagers working out and playing loud music nearby. I'm not complaining. In fact, my child was fascinated by their music and got as much entertainment from their speakers as he did from the play structure. I don't live anywhere near Cerritos, but if I did, I'd make good use of Liberty Park. What a lovely neighborhood resource, for both special events and everyday recreation.

The museum isn't huge, but it's full of hands-on space and science activities. My 10-year-old had plenty to do -- and depending on your kid, older children can definitely enjoy it too. There are a few activities that are more engaging for the bigger kids, not just the younger ones. There's also an Apollo Lighting event on Saturday, December 6, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, which looks like something kids around 10 would enjoy. Overall, it's a nostalgic place for me and a fun, educational stop for families. Whenever we're near Downey, I like to check what's happening and drop by if there's a good event!
