Love their running trail for recovery runs. It's .55 miles per lap and you can easily sneak in a mile or two. Lots of activities here throughout the week, so you might run into a bit of foot traffic on the trail. read more

I guess I have been around a variety of crowds often enough to know that this could still be a better park. There's a lot to do here. Many classes and activities to sign up for through the City of Downey. Most of them are fairly affordable even for non-residents. The restrooms are "meh" most of the time - and that includes the ones inside the building near the indoor basketball courts. The playground is alright and mostly enclosed with a chain link fence which I still don't understand. There's a dude who seems like he's in at least his late forties that I think works here that gave me the wrong vibes one day. Actually there have been quite a few, but this one I think about every time I go here... he's yelling at a much younger - maybe even still a teenaged - female, "Where you going? What are you doing tonight? Why?" And she girlishly answered back while giggling, "Home. It's my sister's birthday. Because I need to spend time with my family." Dude needs to back off his perverted ways especially at the workplace and around kids. The young lady - well, I wish she could read a few pages out of my mama's book about standing up for yourself. My son use to play soccer there but after finding out how toxic that fake grass is we stopped. It's made out of tires and during summer it smells toxic. It is banned in other countries because children got cancer but ofcourse in the USA it's profits over Citizens health. The playground surface is also toxic. Please do your research. I was so upset after finding this out. The chemicals in the crumb rubber base of synthetic turf, such as bisphenol A, commonly known as BPA, can leach out during extreme heat. These chemicals have been linked to various chronic diseases including cancers, diabetes and neurological impairments. It took less than a decade for California legislators to reverse their position on synthetic turf. Assembly Bill 626, signed into law Oct. 8 by Gov. Gavin Newsom, allows cities and counties to ban artificial grass out of concern that "forever chemicals" could potentially leech into the soil. read more

Well if you're from Downey you know that all the parks have been closed down for construction. Just to let you know I am at the grand opening of Apollo Park. I've never really thought of a park as a small business but it is now. They've added three carousel shaped lighted patios each one has 7 picnic table handicap friendly , 3 barbecues &prepping table Plus a trashcan for each one . . I noticed half of the park has a brand new Grass the other half is Astroturf. Great .50 mi running track. Park staff can do better job at managing lurkers and young adults teens, But overall worth it to have place to run during flu season. So far so good. read more

The reason I am giving the park 3 stars is due to the experience I had with reservation, staff. I called at the beginning of February to see if I could reserve a sheltered area with tables and I was told that reservations wouldnt begin until March. Great! My party was for Feb 22 anyway so it was going to be "first come first serve". I planned everything, sent out invites for 40 guest. For some odd reason I decided to call a day or two before the party to reassure myself that it was "first come first serve". The lady who I spoke to said that reservations had already begun and I was not able to get a reservation for February 22. Imagine how I felt knowing that I probably will not get the station I planned for because I didn't reserve it due to the fact that they told me reservations would start until March I told her this and she said they decide to do reservations earlier. How can they do this to people? My party plans were set only to find out that I may not get a station. Luckily the weather for February 22 was rain and we decided to postpone for the weekend after. So I called as soon as possible to make reservations, this time for March 1st, and the girl on the phone said yes we have availability just come in and pay the fee of $155 (jeepers!) and fill the application. I drove all the way to the office just to be told that I could not make the reservation because it was less than 10 days before the date I wanted. I was not aware of this policy and I was not told over the phone about this. Luckily I did get to reserve a station at the last minute due to their false information over the phone. Upon arriving on the day of I learned the outlets weren't even active which annoyed me because I was not told beforehand about this. Also all the trash cans did not get emptied until after 12 and my party started at 12. There was no staff around AT ALL until then. Plus the grass all around the area had a lot of confetti and rules are "no confetti". Not sure if the people before me got reprimanded. The park itself is beautiful. I love the renovation. I love the shelter tables, they are perfect for picnics and parties. The play area is really nice, the basketball courts and baseball field are beautiful. But yea... my experience just wasn't a good one. read more

Been playing basketball here for almost 4 years. Sometimes it's hard to reserve a court because of the leagues. Also if you have a reserved time slot. The people before you tend to sometimes take longer, but it's cool because the people running it let you play a little bit longer if the prior group before you go over their allotted time. Quality of the basketball court and rims are not bad at all. There are also outdoor courts if you like playing outdoor. There only been a few times where my group of friends reserve a time slot a week in advance and they canceled it literally the day of. Aside from that renting out the car for two hours for 50 bucks isn't too bad read more

Come to see the kiddos games here once a week for football and soccer. It's a great place for sports. There is a gym that has bathrooms inside. Bring chairs for sitting out on the field because there aren't bleachers. There's a playground for the smaller kids if watching their siblings play gets boring. There is a sizable parking lot, but it can get full and then parking on the street is the only option so I recommend arrive early. read more

Had my sons first birthday party at this park. It was perfect! We had the tables (reserved, we paid) next to the play ground and baseball field. So everyone was still close to each other. They provide outlets to use so that was a big help for the party! Parking was easy and still close to where we were. Park Staff was around asking us if we needed anything (trash bags, clean up, etc.). It felt safe seeing Staff there on site while we were there!! Thank you!!!!! read more

Want to get into a fight during your basketball pickup game? This is your place! I have heard this park has changed for the better but in reality one thing will not change anytime soon. It's not in the better part of Downey. Go to Furman Park instead. read more

Old school park with and super fun tall slide for the adventure in you and your kids. It is a bit run down if you compare it to other new parks in the Norco/Eastvale area. My son and daughter had a blast and were intrigued by the tallest slide. If you are looking for a new scene and mom or dad can't take another day at the same old park for the 100th time, jump in the car and come check out the park on the hill; Apollo Park. Downey has a few parks. Apollo park is my favorite. My kids can play. The restrooms are always open and the lights are on durning park hours. The sports actives are ran here to. Basketball, Soccer, Cheerleading ect. Very clean and well kept. read more

This place has not changed much since I was a kid. Its a fairly small park, but the basketball courts are good and so is the field. You can play b bal, soccer, and volleyball. And maybe have a picnic.. This park can oblige to all! read more

Three stars for the park being sketchy and in south Downey and having a very tiny play ground, but five stars for all of the sports they offer and their athletic program and their gym and their summer camp program. That evens out to four stars. read more

I have been coming to this park for years and years. It's a place with basketball, baseball, and a playground. The place is only missing a wall for handball which is one of the reasons we don't come here as often. It a good place to bbq although it does get pretty packed sometimes. They have a carnival every year for Halloween which is a must! Free hotdogs, gotten candy and soda. read more

The only time I come here is Easter Sunday the weather is always nice but it get s windy around 3pm and my feet have never been hurt in the Sandy volleyball courts altough I never go barefoot but some of my relatives do it every year and their feet have been save :) over all very calm fun and family oriented: playground, indoor and out door basketball courts ,soccer field,baseball field volleyball courts and many programs for kids and little leagues. read more

Amazing park! Park rangers are extremely nice and well trained, seen a dog with rabies the other day. Park rangers handled the situation with welcoming calm. Great park to have birthday parties, spend time with the family, or roll a blunt and enjoy the devil's lettuce. read more

And, I think my game sucked on the first day that I played at this park because I was more focused on my surroundings than I was on catching/hitting the ball. This park is poorly lit; beyond the diamond I would not venture. Parking is easy to find, but it too is poorly lit. Walking the 100 feet to my car caused me a bit of anxiety. read more
