I visited Diane & Company while shopping for a mother-of-the-groom dress, specifically because they carry a designer I was interested in. Prior to my appointment, I even contacted the designer in California and was told that Diane & Co should at least have fabric swatches available if I decided to order through them. When I arrived for my appointment, there was already an uncomfortable situation unfolding in the store involving another customer and a disputed sale. While I chose to overlook that and proceed with my appointment, the overall experience only declined from there. The owner greeted me abruptly and, after I showed her an inspiration photo, immediately told me that a ball gown "would not look good" on me--an unnecessary and unprofessional comment. I then worked with a sales associate, who informed me that the dress I was looking for had just been sold. She proceeded to bring out two heavy, winter-style gowns that were completely inconsistent with what I had described (a formal summer garden wedding) and in a size (16) that did not match mine (4). Despite being told the store carries thousands of dresses, I was ultimately told there was nothing suitable for me. Given my budget of up to $3,000, this was both surprising and disappointing. Having worked in the retail and service industry myself, I can honestly say this was one of the most discouraging and unprofessional shopping experiences I've had. I left feeling dismissed rather than assisted. I ended up going to Emily's Boutique, where the experience could not have been more different--welcoming, attentive, and ultimately successful, as I found the perfect gown. Rude and horrible people. I never write any reviews but a dress was literally ripped out of my hands because I started looking at dresses after everyone ignored me when I walked in and stood there for a few minutes waiting for help so I thought it was okay to just start looking on my own. When the lady came running up to me the guy also came with her and ripped the dress out of my hand and told me that I need to check in with the girls up front and i'm not allowed to look. BUYER BEWARE! I made an appointment to shop for a formal dress for a black tie wedding. It's wedding /prom season so there was a one week wait. I agreed to their $50 fee if I didn't cancel 48 hours before the appointment. About 36 hours before my appt., I called to cancel as I found a dress, (no one picks up the phone), so I left a message. Someone from Diane & Co. calls me back and tells me I can't cancel my appt. and they will charge me $50, and my $50 can be put towards buying a dress! So I show up for my appointment as scheduled, saw a very small selection of dresses in my size and left without buying anything. The recording on the voicemail message says they have over 10,000 dresses in stock. I saw 2. So much for that. I won't be back. An exceptional experience shopping for my daughter's prom dress, I wish we had found this gem of a boutique sooner! I would never go to a big mill store again! The intimate setting was so personal, the ladies who took care of my daughter's prom dress were fantastic, attentive, and lovely. It was like a trip to a day spa, she didn't feel like she was being pushed in/out the door. They made us feel so comfortable, and the dressing room and decor are far superior to other shops we visited. They put each girl in a robe and slippers, pamper her with water and snacks, bring her the right height heel to match her dress...it's the little things that go a long way, the incredible attention to detail that make the client feel valued and appreciated. I reached out to Diane & Company to see if they had the dress my daughter wanted for her senior prom. The woman who returned my call was very friendly and informed me that while they did previously have the dress, they had sold the last one. However, she said that if we made an appointment to come in, they would pull similar dresses to see if my daughter did in fact like the style, and then they could order the dress we wanted. So, we made the appointment. Upon arriving at our appointment, we were assigned a girl named Maddie to help us. I explained to her what I had been told, to which she replied, "I don't know WHO told you that, so I will have to see if that's right." We showed her a picture of the dress and explained that my daughter had her heart set on pink. Maddie preceded to pull green, blue, and yellow dresses, none with the corset top, like the dress she loved. I felt like we were somehow inconveniencing Maddie. She was not very friendly, not very helpful, and downright rude. After 40 minutes of trying on dresses (that weren't anything like we'd described) I grew frustrated. Another woman kindly jumped in to help. First, we were told that they wouldn't be able to get the dress because it was last year's style, and they only had it in blue. However, they said they would reach out to their people to see if they might be able to get it. Suddenly, they could get the dress for us. So, we ordered the dress (for a small fee of $75.00) because it was considered special order. While I appreciated the help at the end of our appointment, the entire experience was horrible from start to finish. Just a little bit of advice, if I am going to spend close to $700.00 on a prom dress (which is ridiculous in and of itself) then I expect to be treated like a valued customer. Horrible experience.....I called Diane and Company to make an appointment for my daughter and her best friend to look for prom gowns. I was told that my daughter was welcome to come but her friend was not since I am not her parent. I then explained that my daughter's friend's mother is a single Mom and has to work on the weekends and could not come. After an extremely stressful back and forth which included me asking such questions as "what if my daughter's friend didn't have a parent or what if they had no transportation " finally we were granted an appointment. Keep in mind I also offered to sign a waiver. My daughter woke up today with signs of COVID ( after an exposure) her appointment was supposed to be for tomorrow. Although I was informed of their very strict cancelation policy I for sure thought they would make an exception for COVID! I was trying to be a good person and not infect their store. I was told ( very rudely) that under no circumstances do they make exceptions ( including car accidents, COVID and family emergencies ) and that my debit card will be charged 50.00. My family does not have a lot of money. My daughter and I both worked very very hard to save money so that she could purchase her dream prom dress. I now have a very upset 17 year old and 50.00 less in my back account. I really pray this dehumanizing display stops with my family....I would hate to have others go through this. read more

My daughter made an appointment here for a junior prom dress. Despite all the negative reviews, I agreed to the appointment since a lot of her friends found dresses here. We were greeted by nice women and a young girl was assigned to help us. I can't remember her name but she had curly hair. My daughter was excited for appointment and so was I until I learned that the young girl would be choosing what she was going to try on. Out of all the dresses she chose my daughter liked two. I kept trying to explain what we were hoping for and were being handed random dresses. There were several things about this place that made the experience very uncomfortable: first was the strict no phones policy which was repeated to us several times before walked to the fitting room (this wasn't our first time dress shopping, we know the rules.), not being able to look at dresses was another major upsetting part, the disgusting shoes they insist the girls wear when trying on dresses, and the sales girls pushing dresses that clearly don't look or fit right and suggesting how perfect it will be after (expensive) alterations. I really wanted to love this place but unfortunately, the experience did not sit right with me. My daughter found a dress she loved BUT, we didn't get it. It was one size too big and obviously stretched out from being tried on so many times. For the prices of these dresses I'd assume we'd be getting a new one. Terrible experience. Took my daughter to this store for her senior prom dress. From the second, we walked in, It just felt intense and rushed. They would not let her browse any dresses. She was told she was supposed to have already picked out the dress that she wanted to try on from their online catalog. Which she did not know, so we didn't do that. They were highly annoyed that she didn't do this in advance and it showed. She tried to describe kinds of dresses She was interested in , the consultants brought them over and they were clearly not even remotely her style or taste. When she said it wasn't what she was looking for they started to get a lot of attitude and aggressive. A group of them were literally standing outside her fitting room talking shit about her right in front of me . Finally agreed to let her walk around and look at them. By the time she came back to the dressing room she was in tears. She said they were completely rude and made her uncomfortable. We were there all of 12 minutes and she left in tears. Thankfully, we went stopped at Castle Couture On our way home, told them what happened and they welcomed her with open arms gave her snacks, Water, squeezed her into an appointment even when they had a line out the door. I went to Diane & co to look for a 'Mother of dress'. I felt rushed and pressured, I did end up picking a dress, by the time I got to the front of the store, the dress was 200.00 more. I was so annoyed, I am a small size, so it was definitely not for more fabric. They took 100,00 off, reluctantly I paid and got out of there. I go back months later when my dress came in and the dress was 2 sizes too big .I was in the dressing room putting on a bra they gave me( was told it would help with the fit.) I am in the dressing room with my daughter , when one of the workers whips open the curtains as I am standing there no bra in my underwear for the filled dressing room to see. I should have fought them on the dress size, but I didn't.I was so overwhelmed by these pushy women all over me prodding and pulling fabric , that I could not even think straight. Ofcourse they wanted me to use their seamstress , but there's no way I will ever step foot in that store again. It was an awful experience. My dress is currently with my seamstress . She basically had to take the dress apart. We are hoping the alterations won't be more than $1000. The dress was originally $2000 , my seamstress has pointed out a few things with my dress and was very disappointed in the designer. WORST PEOPLE, WORST PLACE, WORST EXPERIENCE. I went in to buy a gown for a family wedding. Only wanted to spend max 1,000.. of course they pushed for more. Brought me hideous gowns in my price range. Ended up spending 1,400 after being bullied into purchasing it day of. Of course they wouldn't allow for me to think about it and kept uncomfortably pushing me. Then they told me they needed to keep it and replace beads. They call me one week after and told me to come get the dress. I came 4 days later and they wouldn't allow me inside of the store to pick up my gown. They told me to wait in my car, after 45 minutes I called the store 3x and watched as they ignored my calls due to the whole place being mainly windows. I decided to dispute the charge due to the "service" I received by the way they spoke to me and for holding my dress that I had already paid in full for, hostage. I then received a call late March because I disputed the charge. The "manager" or lack of, told me that I never came to get the dress. When I explained that I did and they ignored me, she then told me I was incompetent and knew nothing. Followed by her hanging up on my face. It's actually comical how horrible these women are and how horrible this place is. Never again will I shop here or ever recommend this place. In fact, I will continue to tell my story until this place is out of business in hopes to save everyone from being bullied and feeling unsafe. It's a horrific place with even more horrific people. This place is just terrible. They are so rude and they rush you. How do you expect someone to try on dresses and take it off within a second? Im a very petite girl it's hard to find a dress that fits in all ways and they made me feel bad about myself. I never said I didn't want to try it on ... some other lady also said "time is limited, pick something". I have had multiple wonderful experiences at Diane's over the years starting at the old store to this most recent trip. This trip was for my boyfriend's company's 30th anniversary party (black tie affair). I have a hard time finding formal dresses that are in a larger enough size that is also made long (I am 5'11") that is also youthful. No one wants to look like grandma when they are young. I went to EVERY store in the freehold area and only found one other dress that was even close to acceptable. So I looked on Diane's website and found 3-4 dresses that might work (only one was listed as in stock). The next day I went over to the store was greeted warmly and assigned to a wonderful consultant (so sorry I can't remember her name). I showed her the few dresses I had found and told her my size. She said don't worry we will find you the perfect dress. She pulled 4 dresses one of which was the one I had picked. Two were not right at all for me. One fit wonderfully and looked great but the slit in the leg was too high and the neckline cut to low for my comfort given the affair was for his job. The last one was the one I had found on line and it was PERFECT. I was so happy to find it. Diane even came over and helped tell me how to do my hair as well as a few alterations I could have done if I wanted to (the dress did not need much work). I ended up with some minor alterations (a small hem, straps shortened a little and I asked to change out the nude insert in the neck line to the color of the dress). The store did quote me a min of $300 for just the hem and I said no thank you I will go else were for alterations and they came out perfectly. I called a few days after the purchase to ask where they recommend to get my nails done as well as spray tan (I am too fair for an open neck gown). They were friendly and helpful giving me names of places to go. Diane's store always has something for every formal occasion and the staff is super helpful. Her dresses and service are well worth the price. As a side note, I recommend going on a weekday and on the off season if you can. I have been there during prom season and it is busy/packed tight. My niece has asked me if I would take her to get her prom dress today, just like her mother before her. She was quite adamant in going to this store. When we arrived the girl at the counter had made some initial questions about what my niece was looking for and for what type of function. She also inquired as to who I was. When she ascertained that I was the uncle she informed us that they will not deal with me and wanted a parent there. What type inane policy is this? My niece's mother trusts in my judgement when shopping for a prom dress, just as her mother did before her. She also works 6 days a week supporting her family. I brought my daughter to purchase a prom dress . The sales girl measured her . When we went to try the dress on , my daughter couldn't barely breathe. She's a size 1 and the sales girl ordered size 0 . My daughter didn't gain weight . Apparently, the person who made this dress made an error or the girl wasn't very bright . It wasn't my mistake , so why in the heck we couldn't get a refund ? My daughter had to wear this tight dress throughout the night. They all seemed to money hungry . Wow, I really wished I read the reviews before visiting this store and making the drive all the way from Long Island. The only thing great was the young sales girl. Other than that, the nightmare began to unravel. My daughter decided on a beautiful, overly priced dress for her prom that needed a new zipper put in, so we had to leave the dress at the store only to make the commute again the following weekend. They also promised to fix some beading. Alterations would cost $250 and up after already spending over $1200 for the dress!! Needless to say, we decided on getting alterations from a more reasonable tailor closer to home. I arrived at the store for pickup and was basically rushed out the store. I had to stop them to ask if I could see the dress and make sure everything promised was done. I ended up testing the zipper in the parking lot! Get home and realized the zipper is still giving problems once tried on, leading me to believe that nothing was done at all. I called to speak to the manager, and to this day no return call. This place is the worst and they should truly be ashamed of themselves. Integrity is everything and they turned a fun experience into something very stressful. I recently went to Diane and Co. to buy a wedding gown for my sons wedding due to being sick over the winter I was running behind the eight ball and was assured by Diane I would be able to get my gown for his wedding. I paid 900.00 for a gown and was happy with my choice. I asked if the alterations would be expensive as I did not want to pay for alot of alterations and was told no a few hundred dollars. I came in last week with my sister to look for a prom dress. Our consultant, Samantha, was AMAZING! My sister told her exactly what she was looking for and she picked out about 4-5 dresses to try on. They were all nice and within our budget. She ultimately ended up picking the first dress she tried on (SO pretty). The owners were also there and were SUPER nice and personable. I recommend coming on a Sunday afternoon as it was not busy AT ALL. She even got to do her alteration appt. same day. My best friend and I went to Diane & Company about a month ago to look for senior prom dresses. We were super disappointed to discover that you aren't able to look at dresses yourself; they're all hung in garment bags that your consultant pulls from. On top of that, the vast majority of dresses on their website are not in store. This is understandable, but I came to the store prepared with many pictures of dresses I would've liked to try on, and when the store did not have one of them, I figured they could've at least showed the consultant the kind of style I like. Unfortunately, the girl who helped me continued to bring dresses out that weren't really what I was going for. During the trying on process, I was actually a bit uncomfortable. It felt like dresses were just quickly being handed to me through a crack in the fitting room door with the instructions to "try it on with shoes." I wasn't really a part of the selection process and I felt rushed to try things on for the sake of trying them on, even if I didn't really like the dress. After a while, there was one dress that I liked, but I decided I needed to think about it a little more before I considered purchasing because I wasn't completely in love with it. So I stayed while my friend tried on her dresses. During this, I saw my consultant helping the next girl and was disappointed that she was bringing her things that seemed to match up well with the style I was looking for. Obviously, I wasn't angry that someone else has similar taste, I was angry that some of the dresses the consultant was now pulling may have been a dress that I would have loved and purchased. So basically, it was really frustrating to not have been able to pull from or even SEE the dress selection. It's been a while since I been to Diane and Company, However my experience was outstanding in December 2016. I rated a 5 If I was able I would give them a 10! It's a family owned business, everyone is hard working dedicated people. The staff is friendly owners personable. I just moved to New Jersey and I needed a dress in 2016 for a wedding in December... I was in Cosmos Salon In Freehold ( which is the best kept secret in Town with a Soho New York vibe) and they recommended Diane and Company for beautiful dresses I went to browse and they asked if I had a appointment - I didn't. I made a appointment returned the next day excited for the opportunity to try some evening gowns on. After a few dresses nothing looked like a wow, and the young lady ( owner Diane's daughter - sorry I don't know her first name but she insisted I try on a black dress she picked out for me. It was a shock when I put it on how beautiful it looked after I tried it on. I loved it!! It was a hit at the wedding. I'll be returning again in a few weeks for another Wow dress soon and three weddings coming up! Go with open mind don't wait for last minutes and be kind they know how to make you feel special. Your dress will impress. Diane and Company is outstanding they have the best Collections. If your looking for honesty they're tell you the truth. I can say so much more. Here's my last comment. I wrote into your social media account inquiring on a special appointment and whomever runs the instagram was not very accommodating. I have a $5k budget for a pageant dress that I need ASAP and was hoping I could come in an hour before traditional opening hours to find a dress. This is my second time shopping at Diane & Company. Like other shoppers, was very surprised to see the negative reviews. The staff was SO helpful and I left with an amazing dress, that was everything I wanted for my over the top 30th birthday bash. Do not consider going to this store if you're not planning on spending AT LEAST $500 (that's on the low end.) However, putting money aside, I WOULD NOT recommend Diane & Co. Although there are a few down to earth saleswomen, most of them are rude and have their nose stuck up in the air. They seem to size you up based on your look and if you are a person of colour, you'll get the feeling that you almost have to prove to them that you are worthy and have enough money to shop in this store. Little did they know that my dollar was just as good as the next person and they should not have judged this book by its cover. The only reason that I did buy my dress there is because I was running out of time and to be honest with you, I was just plain tired of looking for a dress. Harriet was my saleswoman. She was most caring, professional, and a definite asset to the store. The store has a "no picture taking" policy which I could respect and adhere to. However, once I decided to buy the dress, I asked the person I was with take a picture of me in the dress. Harriet, my salesperson, had no problem with this because she knew that the dress now was mine. While getting my picture taken, another salesperson nastily said to Harriet, " Why are you letting HER take a picture!!! You know better than that !!!" I saw the embarrassment on Harriet's face. It seems to me that even if that salesperson felt that way, she should have taken Harriet to the side and said something privately. If I wasn't in such a bind for a dress, I would have walked out on the spot. Another negative is that the alterations there are extremely expensive. On top of my $500+ dress, they charged an additional $390 for alteration that had to be paid in cash ( that seemed a bit shady and had a feeling of "under the table" to me. I heard other people complaining about this as it seems to be a number off the top of the head with no itemization of how they arrived at that $390. Also, while seated and waiting my turn to be fitted, I noticed how curt and flip they'd be when answering the telephone. It's interesting how after reading some reviews on the Diane and Co site, so many other customers shared my same feeling. Before I end this review, let me first of all thank my salesperson, Harriet; she was wonder. Let me thank Jasmine; she saw the rudeness of her fellow colleagues and tried to give an extra smile to cover for them. Plus, Jasmine was simply nice. Lastly, let me thank Olla, she had a warm smile and was excellent with the alterations. Although, I ended up liking my over-priced dress, I will NEVER step foot in that store again. Too much to say -but to keep it simple.... we walked in to sign in and the rudest partial owner said, "just so you know our dresses start at $400.00"...... immediately felt like it implied we looked like we couldn't afford their place. Overall/ dresses overpriced and owners rude and obnoxious- truly believing they deliver A+ customer experience. They need lessons in what that truly looks like. Wish I could rate 0 stars. Ordered the dress in the wrong color then tried to convince me it was my fault. No word from the store till I called months later. Said they didn't want to stress me out. The dress finally arrived and I had alterations done at the store. BIG MISTAKE. Took at least 5 tryons to "get it right". Still not correct but I could not take the obnoxious lady's any longer. read more

Went to this place a few weeks ago and experienced the worst service of my life. They tell you not to touch the dresses and don't listen to what style you are looking for. I showed them photos of dresses they had on their website that I was interested in and they did not have any of them!! They treat you like your 5. They want to sell u what they want to get rid of. Don't waste your time at this place!! Go to Castle Couture down the road or the Bridal Boutique on Main Street in Staten Island has awesome service!! read more
